Taylor Swift’s music returns to TikTok

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift’s music has returned to TikTok.
The ‘Shake it Off’ singer’s tracks had been pulled from the social media platform by her label Universal Music Group (UMG) in January, citing unfair compensation for artists and the damaging usage of A.I.
However, Variety reports that Taylor’s catalogue has returned to the video-sharing platform, seemingly thanks to the 34-year-old Grammy winner regaining ownership of her master recordings.
UMG artists including Drake, Billie Eilish, Adele, Coldplay, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Bad Bunny’s music is still nowhere to be seen.
The label’s licensing agreement with TikTok expired on 31 January, and talks to renew the contract had fallen through, due to the site’s proposed deal.
Taking to their website, the company wrote: “With respect to the issue of artist and songwriter compensation, TikTok proposed paying our artists and songwriters at a rate that is a fraction of the rate that similarly situated major social platforms pay.
“Today, as an indication of how little TikTok compensates artists and songwriters, despite its massive and growing user base, rapidly rising advertising revenue and increasing reliance on music-based content, TikTok accounts for only about one per cent of our total revenue.
“Ultimately TikTok is trying to build a music-based business, without paying fair value for the music.
“On A.I., TikTok is allowing the platform to be flooded with A.I.-generated recordings—as well as developing tools to enable, promote and encourage A.I. music creation on the platform itself – and then demanding a contractual right which would allow this content to massively dilute the royalty pool for human artists, in a move that is nothing short of sponsoring artist replacement by A.I.”
UMG then alleged the platform had tried to “bully” the company into a deal worth less than their previous one.
They continued: “As our negotiations continued, TikTok attempted to bully us into accepting a deal worth less than the previous deal, far less than fair market value and not reflective of their exponential growth.
“How did it try to intimidate us? By selectively removing the music of certain of our developing artists, while keeping on the platform our audience-driving global stars.
“TikTok’s tactics are obvious: use its platform power to hurt vulnerable artists and try to intimidate us into conceding to a bad deal that undervalues music and shortchanges artists and songwriters as well as their fans. We will never do that.”

Liam Gallagher bashes Blur and says their music is ‘for posh brats’

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has hit out at longtime rivals Blur and declared their music is “for posh brats”.
The 51-year-old former Oasis star responded to the Britpop group’s frontman Damon Albarn, 56, who revealed several Americans have tried to claim songwriting credits for ‘Song 2’.
During Blur’s pre-Coachella warm-up gig at the Fox Theater Pomona in California, this week, Damon said: “Because of the nature of American law, if someone gets a lawyer … they can come quite a long way with absolutely no grounds. Someone else this year – not only is it that person who’s convinced they’d written it, but there was another person who was convinced.
“Firstly, I wonder why it’s only that song that they’re interested in.”
Liam then took to X to knock Damon for his comments.
He penned: “Gotta be out of your box to claim to have written that song absolute TURDOS. (sic)”
The ‘For What It’s Worth’ singer was then caught in a heated debate with Blur’s fanbase on the platform, in which one user claimed, ‘Song 2’ is “better than any song you wrote Liam.”
Liam – whose estranged brother Noel Gallagher, 56, was the chief songwriter in Oasis – bit back: “I could write that standing on my head you s****bubble.”
He later added: “It’s music for posh brats.”
However, the ‘Live Forever’ hitmaker did have some compliments for the rock group, and admitted he wished he had written ‘Sing’, from their 1991 debut album ‘Leisure’, as it makes him cry “like a baby”.
At the height of the battle of Britpop, Oasis vs Blur, Noel infamously said he wished Damon and his bandmate Alex James, 55, would “get AIDS and die”.
In other Oasis-related news, the legendary group have shared an early live recording of their seminal debut single ‘Supersonic’ to mark its 30th anniversary.
The recording is taken from their performance at the Limelight in Belfast on 4 September 1994, where they learned ‘Definitely Maybe’ had given them their first number one album in the UK.
A limited-edition replica of the original 1994 CD Single, as well as an individually numbered pearl-coloured 7-inch vinyl is available for fans to purchase.
The tracklist for the CD Single includes: ‘Supersonic’, ‘Take Me Away’, ‘I Will Believe’ (Live), ‘Columbia (White Label Demo), while the vinyl will see the first two tracks on either side.
On top of the physical editions, the re-release can be listened to with Spatial Audio via Apple Music.

Zayn Malik bares his soul on new single Alienated

OHMYGOSSIP — Zayn Malik has shared the deeply honest single, ‘Alienated’.
The former One Direction star’s fourth solo LP, ‘Room Under the Stairs’, is set to be his most personal yet, and following lead single ‘What I Am’, he is equally as forthcoming on his latest tune.
He sings: “Know my reasons for the pain / But if you brought it in front of me / I know I’d do it all again.
“Call them beer can gains / I know from all the years / That my feelings never change.”
Zayn recently shared how he wanted to “singing directly” to fans on his new album.
The 31-year-old singer explained in an interview with The Big Issue magazine: “I wanted each song to feel as if it was just me sitting beside you telling you how I feel, singing directly to you.
“It’s raw and stripped back and the type of music I always hoped to make.”
‘What I Am’ is a snapshot of the person he is now, rather than looking back on his journey to this point.
He said: “The sentiment of ‘What I Am is less reflective of my origins and where I come from, and more reflective of who I am as a person at this point in my life.
“I’m reflecting on the way that I approach situations, rather than necessarily a correlation to what my original identity is.
“It’s just growth as a human being. I’m a man, you know, that’s what I’m talking about.”
The ‘Pillowtalk’ hitmaker previously expressed his hope that his new album – the follow-up to 2021’s ‘Nobody Is Listening’ – will help people get to know him better.
He said in a short video shared to Instagram: “I think the intention behind this album fully is for the listener to get more insight on me personally as a human being.
“My ambitions, my fears… and for them to have a connection with that. And that’s why it’s so raw, you know?
“There’s just me writing this. I didn’t want anyone else to be in between me and the music, and the music and the people listening to it.”

Benson Boone reveals how Sam Smith and Adele inspired him

OHMYGOSSIP — Benson Boone was inspired by the likes of Sam Smith and Adele to use his voice as the “main instrument” in his songs.
The ‘Beautiful Things’ hitmaker – who has had viral success with the popular hit, which topped the charts in several countries, including Australia, Canada, Germany, and the UK, and just released his debut album ‘Fireworks and Rollerblades’ to acclaim – has revealed the artists he is inspired by and how he will always make his vocals the key component to his tracks.
Speaking to GRAMMYs.com, he said: “Growing up I listened to a lot of Billy Joel, Sam Smith, Adele, Stevie Wonder, and Queen; these are artists who use their voice as the main instrument for their songs. I think I took a lot of aspects from that into my own music and that’s kind of how I operate. So when I write, I let my voice lead where the song goes. I think that’s what I naturally picked up listening to those artists.”
The 21-year-old star also spoke about how music is like therapy for him.
He said: “I think every song is very different; some of them are sad and some aren’t. But I do like to pull inspiration from whatever I’m feeling at the time. So whatever I’m going through, that’s when I want to write a song; when I’m feeling those emotions the strongest.
“No matter what situation I’m in, I always feel better writing something in the middle of whatever emotion I’m feeling. So it does help me. It’s therapeutic.”
Despite his chart success, Benson insists the most important thing is getting the album heard by as many people as possible.
“I definitely understand feeling the pressure for this album. But ‘Beautiful Things’ was its own moment, and we worked very hard to get it to where that went — and I know that doesn’t always happen, and I’m not expecting that. But I’m just doing my best to get the album to as many people as I can regardless of whether it doesn’t stream at all or it does great.
“I’m truly so proud of these songs, and I’ve made something I love and that I’m passionate about.”

Nickelback on ‘messy’ feuds: ‘Everybody looks stupid’

OHMYGOSSIP — Nickelback insist “everybody looks stupid” when bands feud with each other.
Back in 2017, the group’s frontman Chad Kroeger locked horns with Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, after the former branded his other band Stone Sour a “gimmick”.
Speaking on the ‘Rig Biz Podcast’, guitarist and keyboardist Ryan Peake and bassist Mike Kroeger insisted it gets “messy” for both sides and is ultimately a “game of egos”.
Ryan replied: “Oh, nothing that you haven’t already read that we don’t wanna replicate.”
Mike said: “There’s personalities.”
Ryan continued: “Have you seen two lead singers get together? It’s like a cockfight.”
Mike concluded: “Regrettable things get said on all sides and everybody kind of looks stupid. I wouldn’t go on about it. But it is a game of egos, guys — it just really is. And sometimes those egos are fragile, and they get messy sometimes.”
Corey insists he has nothing against the ‘Rockstar’ hitmakers and that his problem lies with just Chad.
Speaking to Philadelphia’s 93.3 WMMR radio station, Corey said: “That just tells you the level of ego you’re dealing with. “And I’ve said this since day one – it’s not the band. As soon as that story hit, the band called and apologised. They were like, ‘It’s not us, we promise. It’s this guy. We don’t…’ And I had hung out with the band before and they’re super-cool dudes.
“I don’t want people holding it against the band, because it’s not them. It’s Captain Ego from Planet Douche.”
The pair were embroiled in a war of words after Chad called Stone Sour “Nickelback lite” during an interview.
Asked about their feud, Corey previously said: “I’m not talking about that d*******. Why do I give a s*** what Chad Kroeger says?
“I’ll tell you what. This is how I figured it out … Chad Kroeger is to rock what KFC is to chicken.
“Is that wrong? I feel like I’m not wrong. I’ll still eat it, but I’m not gonna feel good about it. It tastes like the same thing.”
However, the ‘Duality’ rocker has previously insisted that his animosity does not extend towards the other members of the Canadian rock group.
He shared: “Everybody else in that band I’m very, very cool with; I’ve hung out with them.
“It’s just ‘Face Like A Foot’ who I can’t really hang out with. He’s got a face like a foot. Am I wrong?”

Lulu’s final Shout to take place at Glastonbury

OHMYGOSSIP — Lulu’s final concert will be at Glastonbury.
The 75-year-old singer confirmed in February that her current ‘Champagne for Lulu’ tour will be her last, but now it has been revealed she will take to the stage for a final time a few months later at the legendary festival, which takes place on Worthy Farm in Somerset.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Lulu is going to be announced as a performer at Glastonbury next week.
“It’s a massive deal for her and she can’t wait to play the Avalon stage.
“When Glasto organiser Emily Eavis got in touch about going down to the farm she couldn’t turn it down.
“It will be an emotional moment for her as it’s the last time she will ever play Glastonbury.
“It was magical for her when she last played on that same stage in 2015.”
The ‘Shout’ hitmaker previously admitted playing Glastonbury had been one of the highlights of her career.
She said: “The roar from the crowd was deafening.
“I was very surprised, as I didn’t really know what to expect. It was just fantastic and I had so much fun.
“My daughter-in-law Alana took the best picture afterwards of my son Jordan and I laughing backstage. And she made me a mug as a present for my birthday with the photo on it.
“On the back it says, ‘My mother just rocked Glasto’. I drink out of that mug every day now. I love it.”
Lulu explained in February that she was ready to hang up her microphone because she had started to find life on the road “gruelling”.
She told Gyles Brandreth on his ‘Rosebud’ podcast: “This is actually – I’m announcing it for the first time now – this is my farewell tour, with family, and friends.
“Last year I did a tour that was kind of gruelling.
“It was successful, it went well, but you need an army to be a success in your career these days. And I felt unsupported.
“But then I turned 75, and I thought, ‘You know what, I want to carry on working, but I want to do it a different way’.
“I’ve learned. And I’ve also become a slightly different person.
“I’m not afraid to be vulnerable.”

Louis Tomlinson compared himself to his One Direction bandmates for ‘a long time’

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Tomlinson no longer feels like he’s in competition with his former One Direction bandmates.
The 32-year-old singer has admitted it took him a long time to stop comparing his solo success to that of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, all 30, and Zayn Malik, 31, who quit before they went on an indefinite hiatus in 2015, and admitted it became “a little bit toxic”.
Asked by Brazil’s G1 publication if he still feels competitive with his fellow 1D stars, he replied: “No, I don’t. Truthfully. But I do think that anyone — and obviously, there won’t be a lot of people who can relate to this — but anyone who has been in a similar situation of being in a band and then kind of going out on your own, there is always that element of… the only thing you have to cross reference with is other members of the band. That’s literally all you’ve got. And it took me… I think it’s a maturity thing, maybe. It took me a long time to look at it for what it was. Because that’s where petulance starts to come in. You start to think, ‘If they’re getting that, why am I not getting this?’. And it just becomes a little bit toxic.”
Louis – who has released two solo albums, 2020’s ‘Walls’ and 2022’s ‘Faith in the Future’ – has come through that now and is feeling confident in the music he’s making and insists that despite comparing himself to the other lads, he’s always been “immensely proud” of each of them.
He continued: “Unfortunately, it is the nature of the music industry. It is competitive by nature. We’re all competing for spots. But I look at it in a very different way now. But as I said, that takes maturity. And truthfully, I also needed to succeed on my own to kind of get through that. And get past that. And that kind of comes back to that confidence I feel now, to be able to say these things. Oh, and just to reiterate, because it’s important: while I felt competitive, or more competitive than I am now, that’s not to say that I wasn’t immensely proud of everything the boys were doing. It was more about reflecting on my own situation. Just about thinking: ‘Oh, I wish I had a bit of that.’
Whereas I do feel in a much, much different place now. And it’s a nicer thing to feel, it’s not always the nicest feeling to feel so competitive.”
‘As It Was’ hitmaker Harry is the most successful member of the ‘History’ group when it comes to numbers, having embarked on a career in acting as well as his chart-topping music.

Benga confirming he won’t be making the trip comes after Vampire Weekend were a surprise last-minute edition to weekend one.

Bring Me The Horizon guitarist Lee Malia to miss Australian shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Bring Me The Horizon’s guitarist Lee Malia is skipping the band’s Australian leg of their ‘NeX GEn Tour’ to spend time with his newborn.
The 39-year-old axe-slayer recently welcomed a little boy into the world with his wife Deni Marie McGonigle – with whom he also has a little girl named Evalyn – and just before the band kicked off the run at Melbourne’s John Cain Arena on Wednesday (10.04.24), Oli Sykes and co confirmed Lee will be absent Down Under.
They posted to X: “Lee is unable to join us for NEX GEN DOWN UNDER shows. He will be back for future dates, but is taking some time out with the new addition to his family for this run.”
The Australian run concludes on April 21 in Brisbane, with Lee expected to return when they head to Las Vegas on April 25 for a pair of consecutive side shows to coincide with their set at Sick New World festival.
In December, programmer and keyboardist Jordan Fish – who was instrumental in their evolved sound – departed the ‘Kool-Aid’ group.
Meanwhile, the BRIT Award-winning rockers were forced to push back the follow-up 2020’s ‘Post Human: Survival Horror’, which was originally set for release on September 15, 2023, due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
They have since confirmed they are in no “rush” and have added some new songs to ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’.
Speaking to NME recently, Oli said: “It’s nearly finished, but it’s not finished.
“Every time we think we’ve got it; we get another song.
“It’s going to be right good though, it’s our best album ever… Worth the wait.”
Drummer Matt Nicholls continued: “It’s not quite finished yet, but it’s closer than it ever has been. We came back off tour and – we’ve got a studio in Sheffield – just cracked on. Got our heads down with everyone all together and we’re getting there. It’s this close…
“It is really good, and we’re really happy with it but it takes time, doesn’t it?
“You can’t rush these things.”

ABBA thank fans for ‘steadfast loyalty’ on 50th anniversary of Eurovision win

OHMYGOSSIP — ABBA have thanked their fans for showing “steadfast loyalty and support” as they celebrated the 50th anniversary of their Eurovision Song Contest win.
The iconic Swedish band – comprising of Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – shot to fame when they triumphed in the contest with ‘Waterloo’ in Brighton in April 1974 and have described it as “deeply humbling” that millions have adored the group in the subsequent half a century.
In the message, ABBA said: “It’s slightly dizzying and deeply humbling to think that millions of you who saw us for the first time in the Eurovision final 1974 have passed our music on not only to one generation, but to several. We see evidence of that every time one of us visits Abba Voyage in London, and it’s because of this we can celebrate the 50th anniversary of that event in the knowledge that our songs still resonate around the world.”
The ‘SOS’ hitmakers find it “difficult to comprehend” that 50 years have passed since their Eurovision success and the quartet say that their dreams have been “surpassed” as they have gone on to become one of the most popular groups in music history.
The group added: “So what were our dreams during those suspenseful moments or in the chaos in the aftermath of the victory we had secured with the smallest margin in Eurovision history? Four different dreams, no doubt, but whatever they were, however grand, reality has surpassed them, that’s for sure.
“Many of you were there from the very start and have followed us ever since – for over half a century! Music you discover and learn to love when you grow up or even later in life has a way of staying with you forever. We share that experience with you and to know that our music has become a constant in your lives is a wonderful thing.”
The statement concluded: “Throughout the years we have been blessed with the outpouring of love from you, our fans. We feel it and we want to know that hardly a day goes by when we’re not reminded of it. To say thank you for what you’re giving us without sounding trivial is not easy and this is not a moment of triviality. It is a happy and, at the same time, solemn moment and we can only hope that you understand how deeply grateful we are for a long, successful career and for your steadfast loyalty and support through the years. Thank you!”

Jade Thirlwall aims jibes at Simon Cowell in debut solo single

OHMYGOSSIP — Jade Thirlwall takes aim at Simon Cowell in her debut solo single ‘Angel Of My Dreams’.
The Little Mix star aims a jibe at the former ‘X Factor’ judge in the new track after the girl group switched from Simon’s defunct record label SyCo to RCA during the making of their album ‘LM5’ in 2018.
The song features the line ‘Sold my soul to Syco’ and she also appears to have targeted Simon in the music video, which shows Jade as a young star attempting to find fame while a mysterious man smoking a cigar seemingly controls the industry.
The 31-year-old singer’s spokesperson has refused to comment on the reference to Cowell but Jade has previously discussed how the ‘X Factor’ winners were thwarted in their attempts to promote a message of girl power.
Quizzed on the lack of female empowerment in Little Mix’s music videos, she said: “We did a little bit but we had a switch of labels during the LM5 process and that really f***** us over.
“It was harder to put all our creativity out there in the way we would have liked.
“The LM5 album was very heavy on women’s rights and our experiences in the industry.”
It was revealed last month that Jade is “sitting on a good song” that she collaborated with Jax Jones on and the ‘Never Be Lonely’ star is hoping that the tune sees the light of day.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It’s a good song. If she wants to use it, it’s there.
“Miley Cyrus and Pharrell Williams released ‘Doctor’, which was recorded years ago, so you never really know what will happen.
“But I know I have written some cool music with Jade, and we are still cool and we vibe.”

Unfortunately, he started having “more issues” and had to have another surgery in October 2023, and his widow admitted it left him “unable to live a full life”.
She wrote on Facebook: “It is with a heavy heart that I write this and it’s extremely difficult to find the right words. CJ left this world on Friday, April 5th. I’ve had 8+ wonderful years with this man and I love him to his core.
In September of 2020, CJ was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. His initial prognosis was grim, but that didn’t stop him. We went for a second opinion and in September of 2021, he had a life-saving operation that gave us these last years with him. He was so incredibly positive during this whole disease. He was so strong. He never lost hope. All he wanted was to be the CJ that you all know and love. Last spring, he started having some more issues and he had another surgery in October 2023. This last surgery left him very weak and unable to live a full life. I’ve been by his side from day 1 and I would have never given up on him.
CJ leaves behind three wonderful children that are all so very special to me. Life will never be the same. I’m not ready to face this. There is so much to say but words are incredibly difficult right now. Please respect our family during this time of grief and keep us in your thoughts. (sic)”
