OHMYGOSSIP — RAYE has slammed record labels for leaving many songwriters penniless.
The ‘Escapism’ hitmaker – who became an independent artist after parting ways with her former record company Polydor over a dispute over the release of her debut album – has hit out at labels for taking a huge cut out of royalties for marketing.
The 25-year-old star told Amazon Music’s ‘+44 Podcast’: “For every song that is released in the world, there are 100 royalty points on a record. A songwriter who has contributed to a record, written the record and even crafted the record entirely is entitled to zero points.”
She continued: “I have spent so much time with so many incredible songwriters with Top 10 Billboard hits and they can’t pay rent. It’s evil and you want to know what’s worse, record labels are taking eighty points for marketing.”
After being released from her record contract, RAYE admits she never imagined having a No.1 with her massive track ‘Escapism’ with rapper 070 Shake and a number two with her independently released debut album, ‘My 21st Century Blues’.
She said of the music industry: “At the end of the day, being a musician is tough anyway, because you’re putting out something to be judged, right? Being judged is always a difficult and intimidating thing for any human. But as a musician, you have to be at peace with the fact some people will hate what you do. Some people will like it. Some people will love it.
“But my purpose was, I have to love it. Otherwise, what’s the point? And I started releasing these songs with no intention of being these big chart hits.”
However, RAYE admits being fully in control of her career took some getting used to.
She said: “The most beautiful thing is realising that I don’t have to ask permission anymore, that I genuinely am in control of my career. That took some serious adjusting to. You know, you really have to back yourself financially, and you have to go and go, and every detail matters. But the positives for me well outweigh the cons.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Busted have announced a 20th anniversary tour and album.
After teasing fans on social media that a big announcement was set to drop on Thursday (23.03.23), the pop rock trio – comprising Charlie Simpson, James Bourne and Matt Willis – have announced a 15-date run, kicking off in Plymouth on September 2 and wrapping in Manchester on September 24.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, James, 39, said: “It’s out of this world that we get to do this and we couldn’t be more excited about it. It’s going to be wicked.”
Charlie and Matt both admitted they are glad they broke up in 2005 after the former quit to focus on his other band, Fightstar, because there was a lot of tension towards the end.
Asked if he expected a reunion back then, Charlie, 37, said: “No. On that day I didn’t. I’m glad that we split up at the time because it allowed us to do this and come back together.”
The band reunited in 2015 and went on to release the albums ‘Night Driver’, in 2016, and 2019’s ‘Half Way There’.
Matt, 39, continued: “People have asked me, ‘Do you regret splitting up?’ And I don’t. It was s*** towards the end of Busted.
“It was a really bad vibe in the camp and it felt like the right time to stop that.
“Now it feels like how it’s meant to feel. It’s like the very beginning again. Right now it feels like it’s barely even begun.”
If a tour wasn’t enough, the ‘You Said No’ hitmakers have also revealed they are set to release an album of reworkings of their biggest hits featuring fellow noughties rock bands, such as McFly, Simple Plan and All Time Low.
The first re-worked track will be ‘Loser Kid’, which is set for release on April 14 and features pop punk legends Simple Plan.
James commented: “They just feel fresh and like they were written yesterday.”
Matt added: “This has reinvigorated everything and suddenly we’re making lots of plans.”
Tickets for the 20th anniversary tour go on general sale on March 31 at 9am. A presale takes place on March 29 at the same time.

OHMYGOSSIP — Saliva guitarist Wayne Swinny has died aged 59 after suffering a brain haemorrhage on tour.
The Grammy-nominated heavy metal group’s only original member left in the band was found in “medical distress” on Tuesday morning (21.03.23) before being transported to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a “Spontaneous Haemorrhage ” and placed in the ICU.
The ‘Click Click Boom’ band had been due to perform in Pittsburgh that evening.
A statement read: “Our dear brother Wayne Swinny was discovered Tuesday morning in medical distress and paramedics were called. He was transported to a hospital where he was diagnosed with a Spontaneous Haemorrhage in his brain. He is currently in the ICU as we await further news. We ask that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers at this time.”
It was later confirmed that Wayne had tragically passed away.
A press statement issued on Wednesday (22.03.23) began: “It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Wayne Swinny, the guitarist of Saliva.”
Frontman Bobby Amaru has shared a heartbreaking tribute, in which he called Wayne the “older brother I never had”.
He said: “I’m not even sure what to think or how to feel right now. My heart aches for Wayne’s family, his friends, and anyone who had the joy of being around him. My heart aches for his daughter Nikki. He loved that little girl so much. He was a Guitar Hero onstage with all the Rock ‘N’ Roll swag that most guitar players dream of. Offstage he was a proud father, an Ancient Aliens expert, and an incredible human who had zero enemies! He would go out of his way to make sure you had a good time. I’m grateful that I got to share almost 12 years of my life with Wayne on the stage and most importantly off the stage. He was the older brother I never had. I learned so much from him and we had a f****** blast together! I will cherish it all for the rest of my life! God Bless you Wayne. I know we’ll meet again!!”
Salvia was formed by Wayne, Josey Scott Sappington, Todd Poole, Dave Novotny and Chris D’Abaldo in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1996.
The band released 11 albums, their most recent being 2018’s ’10 Lives’.
They were on tour in support of their latest single, 2022’s ‘High On Me’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Rod Stewart has quipped that he and pal Boy George should “misbehave” on their summer tour.
The ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?’ hitmaker is embarking on a ‘Global Hits Tour’, which kicks off at Home Park Stadium in Plymouth on June 24, and he’s thrilled to be joined by his “dear friend” and his band Culture Club.
Rod, 78, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be sharing the stage with my dear old friend, Boy George. Let’s misbehave!”
George, 61, commented: “I’m a massive Rod Stewart fan. I have been since I was a teenager. I love his voice and he’s always been very charming to me.
“In 1974 when I was 13 years old I bunked in for free to see Rod Stewart and The Faces at Lewisham Odeon, so I love that I am now able to support him on tour.”
Gig-goers can expect “show-stopping classics and fan-favourites” spanning Rod’s six-decade career.
Rod will return home to Edinburgh Castle for the first time in 13 years for two special homecoming shows as part of the jaunt.
The ‘Maggie May’ singer added: “My favourite memories have been summer nights with a beer or two alongside the best fans in the world.
“I’m impatiently awaiting this summer playing at a variety of special venues – football, cricket and rugby stadiums, estates and castles! We’ll all be dancing under the stars.”

OHMYGOSSIP — BLACKPINK have announced the first batch of artists supporting the ‘Sour Candy’ hitmakers at American Express presents BST Hyde Park.
The K-Pop girl group – comprising Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa – are set to headline the summer concert series in London on Sunday, July 2.
And they will be joined by the likes of pop star Sabrina Carpenter, South Korean indie-rock band The Rose, ‘Pretty Boys’ hitmaker Caity Baser and viral TikTok sensation Mae Stephens, whose song ‘If We Ever Broke Up’ blew up on the video-sharing platform.
More artists are still yet to be added to the line-up.
Meanwhile, Daryl Hall has just been announced as Billy Joel’s special guest on July 7.
The 76-year-old star – who is best known as the co-founder and principal lead vocalist of Daryl Hall and John Oates – will make his solo debut at Hyde Park.
He said: “So glad to be back in London playing. I always have the best shows there.”
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Guns N’ Roses, Take That, and Pink with special guest Gwen Stefani are also set to headline the series.
‘Welcome To The Jungle’ rockers Guns N’ Roses will also make their debut at BST Hyde Park on June 30 as part of the outdoor London event’s 10th anniversary.
Frontman Axl Rose will be joined by Slash, Duff McKagan, Dizzy Reed, Richard Fortus, Frank Ferrer and Melissa Reese for the special show.
The heavy metal veterans are also headlining Glastonbury on June 24.

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher insists his brother Liam Gallagher just has to “get his people to call my people” to discuss an Oasis reunion.
The feuding siblings have sparked speculation they could reform the legendary Britpop group – who split in 2009 after a backstage bust-up between the pair at their final concert – after frontman Liam, 50, said a reunion is “happening” on Twitter.
And guitarist Noel, 55, has since reacted and insisted he’s willing to listen to his brother after years of being estranged – but he doubts he has the nerve to pick up the phone.
Speaking in a radio interview in France on France Inter, Noel said: “There’s something in the papers back in England today.
“[Liam] should get his people to call my people; they know who they are, they know where we are. Stop talking on the f****** internet, and let’s see what you’ve got to say.”
The reporter then asked if that’s all it would take to reunite Oasis, to which he replied: “You would think, right? You would think. He’s got my number, he’s got my manager’s number, call us. But you know what? He won’t call.”
Responding to a Twitter follower who asked what the chances of them reuniting are last weekend, Liam replied: “It’s happening.”
Noel had admitted earlier this year that he’ll “never say never” to a reunion.
He told BBC Radio Manchester: “You should never say never, [but] it would have to take an extraordinary set of circumstances.
“That’s not to say that those circumstances would never come about.”
The ‘Champagne Supernova’ hitmaker was then asked how he and Liam are getting on these days, to which he replied: “Oh, brilliantly, yeah. Genuinely, yeah.
“He [Liam] has taken a year out apparently to find himself.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Goulding has shared the euphoric dance-pop tune, ‘By the End of the Night’.
Following the success of her and Calvin Harris’ trance hit ‘Miracle’, the pop star has given fans another taste of her hotly-awaited LP ‘Higher Than Heaven’.
The ‘Lights’ hitmaker, 36, admits the song provides her with a “sensual escape” and she hopes it has the same uplifting effect on her fans.
Speaking of the track, Ellie said: “I feel like we’ve all been through such a lot over the last few years, we’re still processing everything. I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel like we need music that uplifts us and makes us feel good and that’s exactly how I feel about By The End Of The Night. It gives me a sense of euphoric, sensual escape, like being on a dancefloor on another planet … something that was definitely appealing back in the late 80’s… where this track could have easily come from!”
‘Higher Than Heaven’ is released on April 7.
The follow-up to 2020’s ‘Brightest Blue’ also features the previously released singles ‘Easy Lover’, ‘Let it Die’ and ‘Like A Saviour’.
Meanwhile, Ellie recently admitted ‘Miracle’ came “out of the blue” and she almost missed out on the collaboration by “playing it a bit too cool”.
She explained: “This one came slightly out of the blue. He said that he had the track and immediately thought of me for it. Calvin doesn’t like to mess around so he sent the song in the next message
“I accidentally played it a bit too cool and didn’t reply for a few days so he thought I wasn’t into it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Duran Duran are recording a new album with Andy Taylor.
The 62-year-old guitarist – who left the band in 2006 – revealed last November when the group were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that he had been battling stage 4 prostate cancer for five years and now bassist John Taylor has revealed their former bandmate has agreed to part of a “meaningful” new record they are working on.
Speaking at the Unforgettable Evening in LA event, which raised £1.6 million for the Women’s Cancer Research Fund, John said: “When he dropped the bomb two days before the Hall of Fame, it was really shocking and terribly sad. We’re working on an album right now that is going to be coming out at the end of the year and he’s playing guitar.
“Had he come to LA and just gone on the TV show, we probably wouldn’t have even thought about it. That [the album] happened as a result of this. There’s a lot of cover songs on the album, songs meaningful to us when we were kids. So having him be a part of that project is great.”
The ‘Girls on Film’ hitmakers will record most of the record in Los Angeles and London but frontman Simon LeBon will also head to Ibiza to record with Andy in his studio.
John added: “LeBon is flying to Ibiza to work with Andy. I kind of wish I was there. I think it’ll be great.
“It’ll be really profound for them. They haven’t been in the studio together in maybe 10 to 20 years.”
The musician also hinted at the possibility the sessions could feature in a documentary because he suggested they will be filmed.
He said: “Somebody will have an iPhone on it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Gabriel believes AI machines will be able to do most jobs in the next decade and says musicians should start embracing it.
The 73-year-old musician – who is the original lead singer of prog rock group Genesis – insists humankind has to accept at AI is going to take over the planet eventually and artists should star working with the “powerful new tool” instead of being against it.
Asked in the new issue of Uncut magazine if he had heard Nick Cave brand a song created by the ChatG PT software in the style of the singer a “grotesque mockery of what it is to be human”, he replied: “I think that’s a bit like King Canute on the beach, unfortunately. It’s coming. We’re only just building it, we have no idea what it’s going to achieve. I can’t think of anyone whose job couldn’t be done better by Al in 10 year’s time, maybe five. For instance, when I drive down to the studio in my Tesla, the Tesla is doing a lot of the driving for me – but I’m still keeping my hands on the wheel. The same thing is going to happen more in any process, including creativity. With some of the AI, half the artists want to play with it and half want to shut it down. But I think you do better if you work with a powerful new tool, than just grumble or pretend it doesn’t exist.”
Peter – who has set himself the task of releasing new music on each full moon, culminating in the LP ‘i/o’, his first album in more than two decades, later this year – believes that the poorest areas of the world will benefit from “high-tech education and healthcare”.
Asked where he gets his interest in tech and science, he said: “My dad was an inventor, so I grew up believing we can create tools that will change our lives. We take it for granted that things like Google and Wikipedia are there, but how much has that changed all of our lives? Or the mobile phone, which was a by-product of the space race.
“If we can get high-tech education and healthcare into the very poorest homes in the world, then we’ll have done a very fine thing.”

OHMYGOSSIP — N-Dubz have been recording their long-awaited comeback album.
The ‘Charmer’ group – comprising Dappy, Fazer and Tulisa – were reported earlier this year to have signed a two-album deal after getting back together last year and now Tulisa has confirmed that work is well underway on the follow-up to their 2010 record ‘Love Live Life’.
She shared studio footage on Instagram and captioned the clip: “Come take a little tour of the N-Dubz residential recording studio during down time after the freestyle shoot.
“We just spent 5 weeks here finishing recording the new N-Dubz album. T’was an experience, what a trip! Good times!(sic)”
It was revealed in January the trio had inked a “massive” deal with EMI following the success of their comeback tour last year.
A source previously said: “The deal is massive for N-Dubz and their fans.
“For years it looked like they were never going to reunite but after the success of their tour, they found themselves with multiple offers on the table.
“They are now signed to EMI for two new albums and are recording at Grouse Lodge Residential Recording Studios in Ireland – an hour outside of Dublin.
“In terms of when fans will get to hear the songs everything is still up in the air but hopefully by the time their summer shows kick off at least a couple of tracks will have been released.
The reunited trio have a series of concerts planned for 2023, including a slot at the Isle of Wight Festival.
In addition, on July 7, the band will be playing at Brighton Valley Concert Series, with a gig at Margate Summer Series the following day.
They’ll be in Scarborough on July 20, followed by dates at Gunnersbury Park, London (August 11), and The Bay Series, Cardiff (September 8).
As part of the summer tour, the band also announced shows at the QEII Arena in Telford (July 9), Sunderland’s Ferrington Country Park (July 21) and Stadium CSM at Colywyn Bay (July 22).

OHMYGOSSIP — Philip Selway admits a Radiohead reunion is “further down the line”.
The ‘Creep’ rockers haven’t toured since 2018 and while they are all busy with their own solo ventures at this time, they are “always talking about stuff” and will hopefully get together again within the “next couple of years”.
Speaking to Prog magazine, the drummer said: “We’re always talking about stuff.
“But in terms of an actual kind of collective project, beyond the ‘Kid A’ and ‘Amnesiac’ stuff that we’ve been doing [2021’s ‘Kid AMnesia’ reissue project and interactive exhibition), it’s kind of further down the line for us when that will happen. We’re talking about that, but at the moment everybody’s doing their own thing. When the pandemic happened, we’d always planned to take a vear off from Radiohead around that, so we could get on with other stuff. But that just meant that those other projects kind of grew, so we’re allowing time for all of those projects to go where they need to. But yeah, we’ll get together soon and in the next couple of years there will be something there, of some sort.”
In the meantime, the 55-year-old musician has revealed he’s already working on his follow-up to February’s ‘Strange Dance’, his third solo album.
Asked if the next record is taking shape, he said: “It is, actually. You get to the end of one project and can’t see beyond that for a little while, but it’s led by the ideas that you’ve got coming as well. To do a solo record you need songs and they are starting to happen a bit more now. So yeah, I would love to.
“When I first started doing the solo stuff, I was just thinking of it as a trilogy of records and didn’t really project beyond that.
“I certainly didn’t think I’d end up doing soundtrack work or any of the other stuff. And in some ways, I guess ‘Strange Dance’ feels as though it’s completing that initial cycle. And it feels wonderful to be at that point.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Weeknd’s ‘Call Out My Name’ copyright infringement case has been settled.
‘Blinding Lights’ hitmaker The Weeknd – whose real name is Abel Tesfaye – and co-defendants Nicolás Jaar and Frank Dukes were sued by producers Suniel Fox and Henry Strange in 2021, who claimed the track from the megastar’s 2018 debut EP ‘My Dear Melancholy’ was “strikingly and/or substantially similar, if not identical” to their unreleased track ‘Vibeking’.
However, on March 17, Fox and Strange’s attorneys filed papers confirming both sides had reached a settlement, details of which have not been made public, meaning the case is likely to be dismissed.
The filing, as seen by Rolling Stone, read: “Because the parties are still in the process of formalising, executing, and consummating that settlement, Plaintiff respectfully requests that the Court take all dates off calendar and set a date in 30 days for the parties to file a joint status report if the case has not already been dismissed.”
Jaar had insisted that he had no hand in co-writing the track as The Weeknd used an interpolation of his 2016 song ‘Killing Time’.
Fox and Strange – who make up the duo Epikker – argued that the songs contained “quantitatively and qualitatively similar material in their respective lead guitar and vocal hooks, including melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic elements distinctive to ‘Vibeking’.”
Their attorneys added: “Both works are in a 6/8 meter that is less common in popular music. Both works are played at a similar tempo. And both works use features of electronica, ambience, pop, hip-hop, rock, and R B to achieve a particularly atmospheric and melancholic sound.”
Despite ‘Vibeking’ never being released, the pair claimed the ‘Die For You’ hitmaker had heard their song.
As evidence, they shared an email correspondence which they claimed to be from the artist’s “playback engineer” and stated that the 33-year-old Grammy winner had “listened [to] and liked” ‘Vibeking’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sigur Ros are hitting the road for a tour with a 41-piece orchestra.
The band is due to release their first new studio album in 10 years this summer and they will debut their new songs on a tour of Europe and North America where they will perform alongside the London Contemporary Orchestra and the Wordless Music Orchestra.
A statement posted on the band’s website reads: “Sigur Ros have announced a limited run of very special dates, performed with a 41-piece orchestra in both Europe and North America. You can expect a new album in June, the first studio album in 10 years.
“Having spent the past few years writing and recording, Sigur Ros will now debut these brand new songs to the world. The tour kicks off in London at Meltdown Festival, where the band will perform with the London Contemporary Orchestra, who also accompany them on their following European tour dates.
“Accompanied by the Wordless Music Orchestra in North America, the band will perform their new material as well as favourites from their extensive catalogue. All orchestral dates will be conducted by Rob Ames.”
The first show will take place at London’s Royal Festival Hall as part of the annual Meltdown Festival. They will then head to countries including France, Holland and Germany before taking the shows to Canada and the US with stops in Toronto, New York City and Boston before concluding the trek in Los Angeles on August 28.
Sigur Ros will also be performing at festivals across Europe throughout the summer where they will be playing without the orchestra.

OHMYGOSSIP — Original Hawkwind guitarist Mick Slattery has died at the age of 77.
The co-founding member of the legendary space rock band passed away “peacefully at home” on March 17 following a short illness.
His 81-year-old bandmate Dave Brock – who he co-founded the band, originally called Group X, with in 1969 after playing together in Famous Cure with bandmates John Harrison and Terry Ollis – wrote in a touching tribute on Facebook: “Me and Mick played together in a band called Famous Cure in 1967, touring Holland before going on to form Hawkwind in 1969.
“I have lots of fond memories from our younger days, playing together in Holland and hanging out in Richmond at the L’Auberge Cafe and Eel Pie Island. In the late 60s, we used to rehearse in my upstairs flat in Putney and also in the basement of Bob Kerr’s music shop in Gwalior Road, playing loud music, much to the annoyance of our neighbours. Fly free old friend.”
The musician was with Hawkwind for a brief time, leaving in the same year they formed and was replaced by Huw Lloyd-Langton.
He is featured on the demos ‘Hurry On Sundown’, ‘Bring It On Home’, ‘Kiss of the Velvet Whip’ and the Pink Floyd track ‘Cymbaline’.
However, he went on to record with Space Ritual, Hawkwind’s late saxophonist and flautist Nik Turner’s band.
He was also part of bassist Alan Davey’s supergroup Hawkestrel.
Nik sadly passed away just four months ago at the age of 82.
A statement read in November: “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nik Turner – The Mighty Thunder Rider, who passed away peacefully at home on Thursday evening.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has insisted an Oasis reunion is “happening”.
The ‘Some Might Say’ group’s former frontman is adamant he and estranged sibling and guitarist Noel are going to put their years of feuding behind them to reunite, even though his brother has said it would take an “extraordinary set of circumstances” for them to get back together.
Responding to a Twitter follower who asked what the chances of the Britpop group reuniting are, he replied: “It’s happening.”
Oasis split in 2009 after a backstage bust-up between arch-nemesis siblings Liam and Noel at their final concert in Paris, France.
Noel recently admitted he’ll “never say never” to an Oasis reunion.
He said: “You should never say never, [but] it would have to take an extraordinary set of circumstances.
“That’s not to say that those circumstances would never come about.”
The ‘Champagne Supernova’ hitmaker was then asked how he and Liam are getting on these days, to which he replied: “Oh, brilliantly, yeah. Genuinely, yeah.
“He [Liam] has taken a year out apparently to find himself.”
The ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker also took a swipe at his 55-year-old brother’s lack of “rock ‘n’ roll” on his new High Flying Birds record.
He responded: “Give a s*** how he polishes he’s mates turd no LG no RnR (sic)”
Noel has released the singles ‘Pretty Boy’ and ‘Easy Now’ so far from ‘Council Skies’, which is out on June 2.
Elsewhere, Liam, 50, also confirmed that his Oasis bandmate Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs, 57, will be playing guitar at his upcoming shows this summer, after he got the “all-clear” following his battle with tonsil cancer in September.
Liam tweeted: “He is can’t wait to see his saucy little chops.”
Among his shows are Boardmasters festival in Newquay, Cornwall on August 5.
