OHMYGOSSIP — Lewis Capaldi had to scrap a song he co-wrote with Niall Horan because it was “f***ing s***”.
The 26-year-old Scottish singer is close pals with the 29-year-old Irish pop star but the song they penned together didn’t make it onto the former’s latest LP ‘Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent’ because it was rubbish, with the ‘Pointless’ singer joking that Niall must have penned “most of it”.
Speaking about who he’d like to duet with, Lewis is quoted by The Mirror as saying: “Niall would be one of course. We wrote a song and it was not good. Yeah, it was f***ing s**t. He wrote most of it.”
He said of Niall’s former bandmate: “Obviously Harry Styles — I am a big fan. He is really like a successful singer. Probably the biggest in the world at the moment and he is f****ing super-sexy.”
At the top of his wish list, however, is a fellow Scot.
He said: “I would love to do a collaboration with Paolo Nutini. He is my dream.
“He is an elusive man. He will just disappear for seven years. So trying to get him and pin him down . . . he is slippery.
“He has greased himself up and I chase him around the bedroom but he keeps getting away.
“If he is up for it, I would do it tomorrow.”
Asked how to become a good songwriter, he quipped: “Get famous enough that Ed Sheeran will write with you. Just do it every day.
“I am the laziest person I know. The fact I made it here today is a miracle. Just write s*** songs but one day they will be less s***.”
Lewis and Niall have a longstanding bromance and are always poking fun at each other.
Recently, Niall accused Lewis of lying about doing his own washing.
The 1D star called out his pal over scenes in his Netflix documentary ‘How I’m Feeling Now’ in which the singer claims to sort out his own laundry – with Niall insisting Lewis was putting on a show for the cameras because he actually gets his mum to wash his dirty clothes for him.
Speaking during an appearance on BBC Radio 2, Niall said: “He doesn’t do his own washing. I spoke to his mother the other night. He’s a liar!
“He maybe did it for the cameras … I swear to God, Carol [Lewis’ mother], I said to his mother the other day: ‘Does Lewis pop around to the house or are you in his flat in Glasgow often?’ She goes: ‘Yeah, when he hands me the washing’.”
Radio host Scott Mills suggested Lewis might take care of washing his own underpants, and Niall replied: “He probably has to do his own smalls ‘cause I wouldn’t hand his smalls to anyone else … smalls that not even a mother would love!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Take That have inked a new deal with EMI Records.
The pop trio – comprising Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen – are embarking on a new chapter and are poised to release their first album since 2017’s ‘Wonderland’ in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The ‘Back For Good’ hitmakers are set to follow their headline set at BST Hyde Park on July 1, and musical movie ‘Greatest Days’, with “big touring” plans in 2024.
Their manager, Chris Dempsey, told Music Week: “Exact dates are still to be locked in, but following the King’s Coronation we have the movie ‘Greatest Days’ coming on June 16 and British Summer Time on July 1.
“New music and the album will follow, in addition to some more catalogue moments. We have big touring plans for 2024 – more on that in the coming months.”
Speaking of the new deal, Take That said: “It’s very clear that Jo, Rebecca and all the team at EMI share our love and passion for music, and our ambition, and we are very excited about working together.”
In a statement, EMI co-presidents Rebecca Allen and Jo Charrington, said: “It feels like such an exciting time for EMI to be collaborating with Take That. The new music is sounding exceptional, and it’s amazing to see how much Gary, Howard and Mark have immersed themselves within the label. We couldn’t be prouder to be working with them, and to see the entire EMI label engaged, energised and ready to go.”
Chris added: “There probably aren’t too many artists 30 years into their career and on their ninth studio album that still have Take That’s energy and ambition.
“And we feel Jo, Becky, Thomas, Lucy [Dann] and the team at EMI can match that. They’ve been brilliant so far. They bring some genuine expertise in areas the band are keen to grow, and crucially they work hand-in-hand with the catalogue teams both at Universal and Sony and with our longtime friend Marc Robinson at Globe/Mercury Studios.”
The band made their live comeback at King Charles’ Coronation Concert earlier this month, where they gave the live debut of their remix of ‘Greatest Day’ with Calum Scott and DJ Robin Schulz.

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruno Mars is poised to return with a fresh sound on his first solo album in seven years.
The ‘Marry You’ hitmaker has been busy working on his follow-up to 2016’s ’24K Magic’, and is said to be in “early talks” for a huge tour next year and beyond.
A music insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Bruno has taken some time away to develop a new look and sound following the success of his last few projects.
“He is close to completing the new record and is in early talks with Live Nation to map out a deal which will see him tour the album next year and into 2025.
“Bruno wants it to include the biggest concerts he has ever done and is keen to mount a large-scale multi-dimensional live show.”
While on a break from his solo career, Bruno teamed up with Anderson .Paak to form the R’n’B superduo Silk Sonic, whose 2021 debut studio album, ‘An Evening With Silk Sonic’, won four Grammys.
Anderson previously dubbed Bruno “one of the greatest vocalists I’ve ever worked with.”
Speaking on R’n’B Now Radio on Apple Music 1, he said: “It was big for me. Like I was just trying to take it all in, live in the moment, like being in the studio with them. I’ve done collabs with everybody. I don’t know not one person old, young, everyone on my checklist I’ve already checked and I’ve done all kinds of stuff, I’ve had records that have gotten Grammys but there’s stuff – but like there’s always a place that an artist wants to go and I wanted to go straight to the top.
“And there’s a cheat code, you know what I’m saying? Everybody told me the cheat code is linking up with this dude. Get Bruno on your side, and yeah, it’s dope.”
He also revealed that the pair have a great working relationship, explaining: “It couldn’t have happened unless it was organic and natural and everyday we would get to the studio and it was a blast. It was just jokes. Some days we didn’t even make no music, we just laugh all day and talk shit and ramble. We was having too much fun, man.
“I tell him all the time I have a lot of trust in him and that felt good too. I felt like a large part of my career I’ve done collabs and everything but it felt good to be able to trust a dude to try it like this – great vocal producer, one of the greatest vocalists I’ve ever worked with and just pushing me to a different level.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sting says AI-generated songs might work for “dance music”, but not songs “expressing emotions”.
The ‘Every Breath You Take’ hitmaker, 71, has waded into the ongoing debate regarding the use of AI software to mimic well-known musicians and admitted it’s “going to be a battle” for the music industry.
He told the BBC: “The building blocks of music belong to us, to human beings.
“That’s going to be a battle we all have to fight in the next couple of years: Defending our human capital against AI.
“The tools are useful, but we have to be driving them,” he said. “I don’t think we can allow the machines to just take over. We have to be wary.”
Sting compared AI to “boring” CGI effects in movies.
He added: “It doesn’t impress me at all.
“I get immediately bored when I see a computer-generated image. I imagine I will feel the same way about AI making music.
“Maybe for electronic dance music, it works. But for songs, you know, expressing emotions, I don’t think I will be moved by it.”
The Weeknd and Drake, The Beatles and Oasis have had their vocal likeness appear in songs using AI.
Nick Cave is also among the artists who cannot stand AI.
The ‘Into My Arms’ hitmaker does “not feel the same enthusiasm” for songs created by software such as ChatGPT and he’s raised concerns.
The 65-year-old musician wrote on his blog The Red Hand Files for his January entry: “Since its launch in November last year many people, most buzzing with a kind of algorithmic awe, have sent me songs ‘in the style of Nick Cave’ created by ChatGPT. There have been dozens of them. Suffice to say, I do not feel the same enthusiasm around this technology.
“I understand that ChatGPT is in its infancy but perhaps that is the emerging horror of AI – that it will forever be in its infancy, as it will always have further to go, and the direction is always forward, always faster.”
Nick deemed that music ought to stem from “suffering” from a real emotion experienced by a living and breathing person and not a machine.
He continued: “Songs arise out of suffering, by which I mean they are predicated upon the complex, internal human struggle of creation and, well, as far as I know, algorithms don’t feel. Data doesn’t suffer. ChatGPT has no inner being, it has been nowhere, it has endured nothing, it has not had the audacity to reach beyond its limitations, and hence it doesn’t have the capacity for a shared transcendent experience, as it has no limitations from which to transcend.
“ChatGPT’s melancholy role is that it is destined to imitate and can never have an authentic human experience, no matter how devalued and inconsequential the human experience may in time become.”
The ‘People Ain’t No Good’ singer branded such songs “a grotesque mockery”.
Nick added: “Mark, thanks for the song, but with all the love and respect in the world, this song is bulls***, a grotesque mockery of what it is to be human, and, well, I don’t much like it – although, hang on!, rereading it, there is a line in there that speaks to me – ‘I’ve got the fire of hell in my eyes‘ – says the song ‘in the style of Nick Cave’, and that’s kind of true. I have got the fire of hell in my eyes – and it’s ChatGPT.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Foo Fighters’ upcoming album is dedicated to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins, and Dave Grohl’s late mother Virginia Hanlon Grohl.
The ‘Walk’ rockers will release ‘But Here We Are’ on June 2, and they’ve shared that the record is in honour of their bandmate – who was tragically found dead in his hotel room in Colombia in March 2022, aged 50, hours before the band was due to play a festival in Bogotá – and the frontman’s parent, who passed away the same year.
Sharing the minimalist white cassette and album cover for the LP, which is designed by Morning Breath INC, Foos tweeted the album dedication: “For Virginia and Taylor.”
The follow-up to 2021’s ‘Medicine at Midnight’ is described as: “A brutally honest and emotionally raw response to everything Foo Fighters endured over the last year.”
The ‘Everlong’ rockers reunited with producer Greg Kurstin on the 10-track collection, which signals their new era.
A press release adds that the album is “informed by decades of maturity and depth.”
It continues: “‘But Here We Are’ is the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together in the first place 28 years ago, a process that was as therapeutic as it was about a continuation of life.”
So far, fans have heard the singles ‘Rescued’ and ‘Under You’.
The ‘Best of You’ hitmakers vowed to be “a different band going forward” following the devastating loss of Taylor.
In a letter to fans, they shared: “As we say goodbye to the most difficult and tragic year that our band has ever known, we are reminded of how thankful we are for the people that we love and cherish most, and for the loved ones who are no longer with us.
“Foo Fighters were formed 27 years ago to represent the healing power of music and a continuation of life. And for the past 27 years our fans have built a worldwide community, a devoted support system that has helped us all get through the darkest of times together. A place to share our joy and our pain, our hopes and fears, and to join in a chorus of life together through music. Without Taylor, we never would have become the band that we were — and without Taylor, we know that we’re going to be a different band going forward.
“We also know that you, the fans, meant as much to Taylor as he meant to you and we know that when we see you again — and we will soon — he’ll be there in spirit with all of us every night.”

The 54-year-old pop idol is back with the euphoric new dance hit and will set pulses racing in the accompanying music video (arriving at 2pm BST) that sees the ‘Red Blooded Woman’ singer look sensational in an all-red custom Mugler catsuit – complete with a cape.
She sings: “I know you wanna take me home Padam.
“And take off all my clothes Padam, Padam When your hеart goes Padam.”
The catchy tune is the lead single from Kylie’s upcoming LP, ‘Tension’ – the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Disco’ – which is released on September 22.

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams has recorded a secret song with former Miss France Mareva Galanter.
The longtime pals have teamed up on a duet called ‘Une Tahitienne à Paris’ (‘A Tahitian in Paris’), 14 years after they met at the Miss France final in 2009.
The ‘Rock DJ’ hitmaker, 49, jumped at the chance to help boost the 44-year-old Tahiti native’s music career.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Mareva and Robbie have known each other for a while and he wanted to help her out.
“He performed his song ‘Morning Sun’ at the Miss France finals in 2009, where he met Mareva, and they have stayed in touch on and off.
“She has been working hard to make a name for herself in music for a number of years and when she reached out to Rob, he kindly agreed to help her out.”
Robbie opens the song with the line: “Excuse me Miss, but do you speak English?
“I don’t speak French well. I’m lost in the city. I come from Stoke city.”
And that’s not all fans can expect from the former Take That star, who previously revealed he hoped to release two new albums.
The ‘Angels’ hitmaker has an abundance of tunes recorded for his side project Lufthaus – which he founded with Tim Metcalfe and Flynn Francis – but he has more music he wants to release as well.
He teased: “I have got two albums coming out pretty soon. I have a vault of new Lufthaus stuff. I could do three albums of it as Robbie Williams but new stuff gets written and you get excited about that. I want to put an album out before the summer.”
The pop veteran has plenty of ideas for future releases, including a desire to make a follow-up to his 2006 dance LP ‘Rudebox’, which featured the Pet Shop Boys and featured production by Mark Ronson.
Explaining his intentions for Lufthaus, he continued: “I am not sure if there will be a Lufthaus album. We (Lufthaus) did Ibiza and everybody goes mad and the DJ said, ‘They love us mate.’ We are trying to figure out what live entity Lufthaus is.
“I would like to do a ‘Rudebox 2’ (as well) but I change with the wind.”
The ‘Angels’ hitmaker confessed that he would prefer to play more of his lesser-known songs from his ‘Under the Radar’ compilations.
He said on the ‘Robbie Williams Rewind’ podcast: “I want to do more ‘Under the Radar’ gigs as there is Robbie the public entity but there are the guys at the front who want more. But there are 17,000 others who know ‘Feel’ and ‘She’s The One’. It is f****** annoying I can’t do ‘Andy Warhol’ or ‘Just Want People To Like Me’. That is what I would rather be doing but I am there to provide a service.”
And Robbie has expressed his desire to pen tunes with James Blunt.
He added: “I want to write with James. We have bumped into each other a lot this year. We keep saying we will get into a room but we are seldom in one place.”
Robbie released his 10th compilation album, ‘XXV’, in September, featuring new, reimagined versions of his hit songs, plus new material.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jared Leto has warned fans that Thirty Seconds to Mars’ comeback album will be “surprising” to them.
The brother duo – also including Shannon Leto – will return with their first studio effort in five years, ‘It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day’, in September, and the ‘House of Gucci’ star has revealed they went in a whole new direction on the follow-up to 2018’s ‘America’.
He’s quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as telling an Australian radio station: “Sometimes you pick up a guitar, sit in front of the piano or the computer, or talk to your brother, and an idea comes out that may even surprise you.
“I think a lot of this album is going to be surprising to people who may have heard Thirty Seconds to Mars before.
“It feels like a new beginning for us – it feels like a brand new band.”
Jared, 51, also admitted he can’t be an actor and singer, simultaneously, for much longer and needs to take a break.
The ‘Suicide Squad’ star said: “If I don’t do that eventually, my body just says, ‘f*** you’.
“I deal with some back issues and other things and when I’m pushing too hard and not giving myself any balance, eventually your body will say, ‘stop’.”
The band recently announced the album news alongside the video for the lead single ‘Stuck’.
Jared – who directed the promo – said in a statement: “Thanks to my incredibly creative mother, my brother and I were instilled with a love for art and photography from a very young age.
“The video for STUCK, our first new song in five years, is a love letter to some of my favorite photographers.

OHMYGOSSIP — Chad Kroeger has noticed a “softening” in people’s hatred of Nickelback lately.
The 48-year-old star admitted it was “definitely a thing for a long time” that “keyboard warriors” felt the need to voice their negative opinions about his band, but he believes that has been toned down recently, and he thinks it could be because they have received “a ton of love on TikTok” of late.
When asked why he thinks so many people used to hate Nickelback, he told Arizona’s KFMA-FM radio: “That kind of used to be a thing. I shouldn’t say ‘that kind of used to be’ – that was definitely a thing for a long time.
“And I think there’s been a softening – there really has, thankfully.
“I’m not sure if it’s because we receive a ton of love on TikTok or whatever the hell it is, but for whatever reason the teeth have kind of been removed.
“It’s really nice, it’s really nice to not be public enemy number one.”
Chad hasn’t ever pinned down exactly why people have a distaste for Nickelback, but thinks it could be because the ‘Rockstar’ hitmakers pen songs that work in various genres.
He said: “I think that with the range of songs that we write – from rock to all the softer, melodic stuff, all the way down to … well, I know that ‘Far Away’ got played on country stations even and I know that ‘Rockstar’ – the heavily redacted version – got played on CMT
“So when you’re going that far and the scope is that wide, it makes it tough to get away from the band if you’re not into the band.
“And if you’re trying to switch the radio station three times, and it’s just, like, ‘Ah, there they are. There’s their rock song on the rock station. There’s their pop song on the pop station. And oh my God, I can’t even go to the country station and get away from these guys.’
“That type of oversaturation could p*** people off.
“But at the end of the day, we’re just a band that makes music.
“I can’t stand a couple of bands, but I don’t go online and turn into a keyboard warrior and just start hating on them. I just change the channel or I put on something that I wanna listen to.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Blur are to release their first album in eight years.
The ‘Parklife’ group will bring out ‘The Ballad of Darren’ – their first record since 2015’s ‘The Magic Whip’ – on 21 July, and the first track from the record, ‘The Narcissist’, is out now, ahead of the band’s four intimate warm-up gigs this month, which kick off with a hometown show at Colchester Arts Centre on Friday (19.05.23).
Frontman Damon Albarn explained the album offers “reflection and comment” on where they are in their lives now.
He said in a statement:“This is an aftershock record, reflection and comment on where we find ourselves now.”
Guitarist Graham Coxon added: “The older and madder we get, it becomes more essential that what we play is loaded with the right emotion and intention. Sometimes just a riff doesn’t do the job.”
Meanwhile, drummer Dave Rowntree insisted there was no awkwardness between the ‘She’s So High’ hitmakers as they returned to the studio together after such a long absence, and bassist Alex James enjoyed seeing them surprise one another.
Alex said: “For any long term relationship to last with any meaning you have to be able to surprise each other somehow and somehow we all continue to do that.”
Dave added: “It always feels very natural to make music together. With every record we do, the process reveals something new and we develop as a band. We don’t take that for granted.”
‘The Ballad of Darren’ – which is produced by James Ford – will be available as a 10-song digital download and stream, CD, and vinyl.
In addition, a deluxe CD with two extra tracks and expanded packaging will also go on sale, and exclusive to blur.co.uk will be a deluxe vinyl, pressed on 12” clear vinyl with black swirls, in a gatefold sleeve, with poster, bonus 7” vinyl, album CD (12 tracks) and integrated booklet, including exclusive handwritten notes, sketches and lyrics; and a cassette.

OHMYGOSSIP — The Smiths bassist Andy Rourke has died at the age of 59, following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
His former bandmate Johnny Marr confirmed the sad news and hailed his late friend a “supremely gifted musician”.
In a Twitter statement, he wrote: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andy Rourke after a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer.
“Andy will be remembered as a kind and beautiful soul by those who knew him and as a supremely gifted musician by music fans.
“We request privacy at this sad time.”
Johnny formed the ‘This Charming Man’ group with frontman Morrissey in 1982, and Andy joined after their first concert.
Andy’s signature style was at the beating heart of the legendary Manchester band’s melodic back catalogue that has gone on to inspire the likes of The Killers and The 1975.
Andy battled a heroin addiction that saw him dumped by his bandmates for just two weeks in 1986.
He returned in time for the release of their seminal LP ‘ The Queen Is Dead’.
Johnny hailed Andy’s parts on the landmark record as “something no other bass player could match”.
They’d go on to release the LP ‘Strangeways, Here We Come’ in 1987 to huge acclaim, but split not long after.
As well as The Smiths, Andy performed with Sinead O’Connor and Ian Brown of The Stone Roses.
The Smiths – also comprised of drummer Mike Joyce – broke up in acrimonious circumstances, and despite being offered massive money to reunite for concerts, they’ve never come close to getting back together.
Johnny, 59, previously revealed: “I think we were offered $50 million for three … possibly five shows.”
The band members infamously got into a feud in 1989 when Andy and Mike successfully sued Morrissey and Johnny to get more than 10 per cent of the group’s royalties.

OHMYGOSSIP — Blur’s Damon Albarn is willing to “put money” on Britpop rivals Oasis reuniting.
The ‘Parklife’ hitmakers have reunited and released their comeback single ‘The Narcissist’ today (19.05.23), taken from their first studio album in eight years, ‘The Ballad of Darren’, and they also have a slew of intimate warm-up gigs before two huge comeback shows at Wembley Stadium this July.
And frontman Damon, 55, has insisted he’s confident that feuding siblings Liam and Noel Gallagher will put their estrangement behind them to reform and have a much bigger reunion than them.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, Damon said: “I can guarantee they’re going to reform.
“In fact, I’ve put money on it.
“They’re brothers and it would be wonderful to see them reconcile.”
He quipped: “The only funny thing is that our two nights at Wembley will be dwarfed by their SEVEN!”
Oasis split in the summer of 2009, following a backstage bust-up between the frontman and guitarist.
Despite their feud, Noel later featured on Damon’s other group Gorillaz’s 2017 song ‘We Got The Power’.
Liam, 50, has been calling for an Oasis reunion for years but with no budging from his arch-nemesis brother.
Noel, 55, recently raised the hopes of fans when he urged his younger sibling to “get his people to call my people”.
Speaking in a radio interview in France on France Inter, Noel said: “There’s something in the papers back in England today.
“[Liam] should get his people to call my people; they know who they are, they know where we are. Stop talking on the f****** internet, and let’s see what you’ve got to say.”
The reporter then asked if that’s all it would take to reunite Oasis, to which he replied: “You would think, right? You would think. He’s got my number, he’s got my manager’s number, call us. But you know what? He won’t call.”
Noel had admitted earlier this year that he’ll “never say never” to a reunion.
He told BBC Radio Manchester: “You should never say never, [but] it would have to take an extraordinary set of circumstances.
“That’s not to say that those circumstances would never come about.”
The ‘Champagne Supernova’ hitmaker was then asked how he and Liam are getting on these days, to which he seemingly sarcastically replied: “Oh, brilliantly, yeah. Genuinely, yeah.”
The ‘Some Might Say’ hitmakers aren’t reuniting to mark the 30th anniversary of their debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ this summer.
However, Noel has put together previously lost songs from the recording sessions for the landmark 1994 LP.
He told the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera: “In the Sony archives we’ve found tapes dating to those sessions.
“We thought they were lost, but they were mislabelled. They are wonderful versions of those songs, some acoustic versions.
“There won’t be a tour – we won’t come back to play them together.”
And Liam will play some “biblical” shows next year playing the album in full.

OHMYGOSSIP — Tributes have poured in for late Smiths bassist Andy Rourke.
The seminal musician has passed away at the age of 59, following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
His former bandmate Johnny Marr announced the sad news on Friday (19.05.23), writing: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andy Rourke after a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer.
“Andy will be remembered as a kind and beautiful soul by those who knew him and as a supremely gifted musician by music fans.
“We request privacy at this sad time.”
Since the news broke, there’s been a huge outpouring of love for Andy.
Tim Burgess of The Charlatans remembered Andy as hugely inspirational as a bassist, and also for organising the star-studded Manchester V Cancer charity concert in 2006.
He wrote: “Such sad sad news about Andy Rourke – He was an inspirational musician with a style that made so many of us pick up a bass guitar; and the driving force for Manchester Versus Cancer. Our thoughts are with everyone who knew him. Travel well x.”
Suede bassist Mat Osman tweeted: “Aw man. RIP Andy Rourke. A total one-off – a rare bassist whose sound you could recognise straight away.
“I remember so clearly playing that Barbarism break over and over, trying to learn the riff, and marvelling at this steely funk driving the track along.”
The Smiths’ producer Stephen Street wrote: “Andy was a superb musician and a lovely guy. I send my deepest condolences and thoughts to his friends and family. RIP.”
Johnny formed the ‘This Charming Man’ group with frontman Morrissey in 1982, and the former’s childhood friend Andy joined after their first concert.
Andy’s signature style was at the beating heart of the legendary Manchester band’s melodic back catalogue that has gone on to inspire the likes of The Killers and The 1975.

OHMYGOSSIP — Johnny Marr says his late Smiths bandmate Andy Rourke “reinvented what it is to be a bass guitar player”, in a touching tribute to his childhood friend.
The seminal musician has passed away at the age of 59, following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, with guitarist Johnny confirming the sad news on Friday (19.05.23).
And Johnny said it was an “absolute privilege and genuinely something to behold” witnessing his close pal rock the bass over the years.
He began his tribute on Instagram: “Andy and I met as schoolboys in 1975. We were best friends, going everywhere together. When we were fifteen I moved into his house with him and his three brothers and I soon came to realise that my mate was one of those rare people that absolutely no one doesn’t like.
“Andy and I spent all our time studying music, having fun, and working on becoming the best musicians we could possibly be. Back then Andy was a guitar player and a good one at that, but it was when he picked up the bass that he would find his true calling and his singular talent would flourish.
“Throughout our teens we played in various bands around South Manchester before making our reputations with The Smiths from 1982 to 1987, and it was on those Smiths records that Andy reinvented what it is to be a bass guitar player.”
He continued: “I was present at every one of Andy’s bass takes on every Smiths session. Sometimes I was there as the producer and sometimes just as his proud mate and cheerleader. Watching him play those dazzling baselines was an absolute privilege and genuinely something to behold. But one time which always comes to mind was when I sat next to him at the mixing desk watching him play his bass on the song The Queen Is Dead. It was so impressive that I said to myself ‘I’ll never forget this moment.’”
The last time Andy performed onstage was with Johnny, 55, at Madison Square Garden in September 2022, when they reunited to perform the Smiths’ classics ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’ and ‘How Soon Is Now?’
Johnny continued: “We maintained our friendship over the years, no matter where we were or what was happening and it is a matter of personal pride as well as sadness that the last time Andy played on stage was with me and my band at Maddison Square Garden in September 2022.
It was a special moment that we shared with my family and his wife and soul mate Francesca.
“Andy will always be remembered, as a kind and beautiful soul by everyone who knew him, and as a supremely gifted musician by people who love music. (sic)”
Johnny signed off: “Well done Andy. We’ll miss you brother.
Johnny x.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Clarkson has shared her ‘favorite kind of high’.
The pop star and talk show host has shared her aforementioned third single from her hotly-anticipated comeback album, ‘chemistry’, along with a live clip from the ‘Because of You’ hitmaker’s one-off ‘chemistry’ performance at Los Angeles’ Belasco Theatre last month.
Introducing the “sexy-a** song”, Kelly – who divorced Brandon Blackstock after seven years of marriage in June 2020 – quipped to the audience that she didn’t want to pen “some sad, I got divorced and my life sucks dumpster fire record.”
She added: “I wanted it to be about the whole relationship … There’s nothing like that high when you first see someone and you’re like ‘Oh, s***.'”
The latest tune follows the release of the pair of singles ‘mine’ and ‘me’.
The ‘Breakaway’ hitmaker explained that she decided to release both singles at the same time because the record features “many stages of grief and loss”.
She said: “Having chemistry with someone is an incredible and overwhelming feeling. It’s like you have no choice in the matter. You are just drawn to each other. This can be good and bad. This album takes you down every path that chemistry could lead you down.”
Of the singles, she continued: “We decided to release ‘mine’ and ‘me’ at the same time because I didn’t want to release just one song to represent an entire album or relationship. There are many stages of grief and loss on this album. Each song is a different stage and emotional state.”
On ‘mine’, she takes a swipe at her ex-husband, singing: “Someone’s gonna show you / How a heart can be used / Like you did mine.”
‘abcdefu’ hitmaker GAYLE co-wrote ‘me’, an empowering anthem on which ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ host declares that she doesn’t “need to need somebody when I’ve got me.”
The upcoming album – which is the long-awaited follow-up to 2017’s ‘Meaning of Life – features Hollywood actor Steve Martin on ‘i hate love’ and late music legend Prince’s former lover, duet partner and bandmember, Sheila E., on ‘that’s right’.
Fans can expect to hear about “the good, the bad, and the ugly” from her relationship with Brandon.
Kelly told fans: “This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship, and a whole relationship shouldn’t be just brought down to one thing. So there’s the good, the bad, the ugly thing kinda going on in it.
“Chemistry can be a really amazing sexy, cool, fun thing, but it can also be very bad for you. I thought it was kinda the perfect title to describe the entire album.”
‘Chemistry’ is released on June 23.

OHMYGOSSIP — Lana Del Rey has officially released her leaked track, ‘Say Yes To Heaven’.
The standalone single follows the pop star’s acclaimed ninth studio album, ‘Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’.
The song was penned with Rick Nowels way back in 2012, and fell victim to a leak that saw the tune go viral on TikTok.
On the same day (19.05.23), the 37-year-old singer-songwriter’s father shared his latest track, ‘Deep Ocean Swells’.
He said of the track: “I recorded ‘Deep Ocean Swells’ at the Conway Studios on a beautiful Steinway grand. The piano was able to capture the deep bass notes that rise and fall like the heartbeat of the ocean. If you listen with your eyes closed, you can feel the ocean lifting you up and then rhythmically falling as you are carried away into a dream by the deep swells. Luke Howard added his own magic and beautiful textures to this composition with the Budapest Art Orchestra.”
It’s the latest to be taken from his upcoming debut studio album, ‘Lost At Sea’, which is out on June 9.
Lana previously quipped that her dad’s foray into music will either be the “beginning of something beautiful or take us all down.”
The ‘Video Games’ hitmaker – who added her vocals to the album’s title track and the closing song ‘Hollywood Bowl’ – commented on Instagram: “This is either gonna be the beginning of something beautiful or take us all down… May the force be w all of us. I mean let’s get real – he’s always been the star.”
Lana – whose mother is Patricia Grant – also lent her dad her superstar producer Jack Antonoff for the project.
The 69-year-old copywriter – who is signed to Decca Records – became a musician by accident.
A press release noted: “He can’t read sheet music. But when he sits down at a piano, notes flow from him. Melodies come unbidden.
“He can play for hours. Emotion overwhelms thought, and outpours composition after composition.”
The announcement also prompted pop star Kesha’s mom, songwriter Pebe Sebert, to ask if Rob’s single.
She re-shared Pop Crave’s article about the album news and tweeted: “Is he single?”
