Sabrina Carpenter hits back at the ‘biggest misconception’ about her music

OHMYGOSSIP — Sabrina Carpenter has insisted that she does write her own songs.
The 25-year-old pop superstar had a hand in the composition of every track on her smash hit album ‘Short n Sweet’ but thinks that the “biggest misconception” about herself is that people around the world think that all the work is done for her.
Speaking on CBS Sunday Mornings, she said: “I think the biggest misconception is that I don’t write about my music.
“I think a lot of people think that because I have a producer and co-writers that I love, that I’m sitting in the room on my phone not writing songs.”
Prior to releasing her viral singles ‘Espresso’ and ‘Please Please Please’ over the course of the summer, Sabrina – who shot to fame on the Disney Channel series ‘Girl Meets World’ as a teenager – had in fact written and recorded five other albums.
The ‘Because I Liked A Boy’ singer admitted it that her success is probably down to the encouragement of her parents.
She said: “They never told me to stop singing, and I that psychologically really, probably helped me.”
The ‘Taste’ hitmaker had been due to star in the leading role Cady Heron in the Broadway musical ‘Mean Girls’ in early 2020, but her plans were scuppered after just two performances when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she went back to music and penned the record ‘Emails I Can’t Send’.
She said: “I rehearsed for about three months in New York, we opened, did our first two nights and then…COVID. It humbled me very quickly! I was sent home. I felt like I could do eight shows a week, I’d been training for it but then it was just like…silence.”

Rita Ora set to present MTV Europe Music Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora is set to host the MTV Europe Music Awards.
The ‘Ask and You Shall Receive’ singer is said to be in advanced talks to present the ceremony that will take place at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena next month.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Rita couldn’t be more excited. She is spinning a lot of plates at the moment but her first love will always be music, which is why when she was asked to present the ceremony, she jumped at the chance.
“Talks between MTV and Rita’s new management are ongoing and they’re just ironing out the finer details.
“The ceremony is taking place on November 10 so there isn’t much time to spare, but Rita is up for it.”
The hosting job is familiar to Rita as she previously presented the ceremony when it was last held in the UK at Wembley Arena in 2017.
The 33-year-old star has been working on a number of projects over the past year – including the film ‘He Bled Neon’ with Jack O’Connell – and explained that she also has an “awkward” new album in the pipeline.
She said: “My upcoming album – everything’s a bit awkward, a bit off, a little less perfect. Not super-polished.
“That’s the challenge, I like to evolve.”
Rita previously teased that the new record will be a “bit darker” and a “bit more spicy”.
She told Billboard: “This album is something I’m actually really excited about.
“I’m spending the rest of the year making it. I’m feeling super, super inspired creatively, just having that essence of feeling a bit like not everything is perfect, which was kind of my motive with this. Everything’s just a bit left like that. Sonically, feeling a bit darker, a bit more spicy, a bit more aggressive, just getting in my like, uncomfortable era.”

Liam Gallagher teases Richard Ashcroft, Blur and Manic Street Preachers as Oasis support acts

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has teased Oasis fans about the prospect of Richard Ashcroft, Blur and the Manic Street Preachers supporting the band at their reunion gigs.
The 52-year-old singer and his formerly estranged brother Noel, 57, will kick off a UK, Ireland and US tour in 2025, and since the comeback was announced speculation has been rife about who they will recruit as their back-up acts.
Liam has now taken to X to respond to fans’ questions about the musicians being lined up – saying The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft’s involvement would be “Biblical”.
When a fan on X asked the singer if Richard, 53, would be appearing on the tour, Liam replied: “That would be BIBLICAL”.
Responding to one fan suggesting Blur singer Damon Albarn, 56, and his band should open for them, Liam said about Oasis’ former Britpop rivals: “I love blur and at sone point we have to do n old dears tours.”
He then added: “Richard Ashcroft or Manic street preachers as support”, before adding shortly after: “the manics it is”.
Liam also said about Richard: “Only kidding we never set sail without the 1 and only RICARDO he’s our boy from day DOT come aboard Rkid.”
Richard has a long history with Oasis – and his wild 1990s antics were the inspiration behind Oasis’ 1995 song ‘Cast No Shadow’.
Noel has told Select about the singer: “I always felt he was born at the wrong time and in the wrong place, and he was always trying to say the right things, but they came out wrong.”
The Manic Street Preachers supported Oasis during their iconic Knebworth 1995 shows, while the band Blossoms recently told NME about the possibility of supporting the band on their 2025 tour.
Oasis started teasing their reunion after Liam’s headline set at Reading Festival by sharing a mysterious date on their screens.
Blossoms also shared the same teaser on their concert screens, prompting speculation that they are linked to the Oasis comeback.

Ariana Grande to collaborate with Charli XCX on remix album

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande will collaborate with Charli XCX on her remix album.
Charli’s ‘Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat’ will feature a number of artists including The 1975, Bon Iver, Lorde, Robyn, Troye Sivan and Billie Eilish and it has now been revealed that Ariana will join the line-up.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Ariana loves ‘Brat’ and everything Charli stands for in the industry – she has been keeping a keen eye on her.
“They share a manager and when it was mentioned to her that Charli would like her to be on the album, she jumped at the chance.
“Charli has been a fan of hers for years, so she can’t quite believe her luck that they are going to have a song together.”
The upcoming remix record will feature new versions of the tracks from ‘Brat’, but with special guests on each one.
Ariana’s contribution was teased with a billboard in her native Florida last week.
Charli recently shared the track-listing, showing 11 songs referred to by track numbers with no proper names.
The named tracks are the remixes of ‘360’ with Robyn and Yung Lean, ‘Talk talk’ with Troye, ‘Von dutch’ with Addison Rae, ‘Girl, so confusing’ with Lorde’, and ‘Guess’ featuring Billie.
Describing a Brat girl, Charli has said: “That girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes. Who feels herself but maybe also has a breakdown.
“But kind of like parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile. Like does dumb things. But it’s Brat. You’re Brat. That’s Brat.”
The album was nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize, losing out to English Teacher’s ‘This Could Be Texas’.

Oasis immediately sell out North American tour dates

OHMYGOSSIP — Oasis sold half a million tickets in just an hour as their North American tour dates immediately sold out.
The ‘Wonderwall’ rockers announced the first international dates for their much-anticipated ‘Oasis Live ’25’ reunion tour last week but tickets for the the shows in Toronto, Chicago, New Jersey, Los Angeles and Mexico City were rapidly snapped up.
It will be the first time that Oasis have performed in North America and Mexico since 2008 when they toured their seventh studio album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ – which was brought to an abrupt end the following year as Noel Gallagher quit the band in the wake of a backstage bust-up with younger brother Liam Gallagher as they were due to perform in Paris.
The Britpop icons have already sold out 19 stadium shows across the UK and Ireland next summer.
Meanwhile, the Gallagher brothers are set to cash in on the reunion tour with a string of merchandise and have “covered everything” from fly swatters to ironing boards with their new trademark.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “They have big plans for merchandise.
“Millions of people wanted to get tickets to the shows and Oasis know they’ll also be splashing the cash on branded stuff.
“The new trademark is for Oasis Live ’25 and covers everything.
“Clothes pegs and Christmas wreaths, deodorants and moisturisers are also listed.”
Liam has also joked about the prospect of Oasis going on an “old dears” tour with Britpop rivals Blur.
The 52-year-old musician posted on X in reply to a fan: “I love Blur and at some point we have to do n old dears tour (sic).”

Nick Cave delighted with live performances of songs from new album Wild God

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Cave enjoys playing songs from his new album ‘Wild God’ live.
The 67-year-old Bad Seeds frontman is delighted with the response to the tracks from the group’s latest record that they have been performing on their current European tour.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Nick said: “These particular songs lend themselves to the live experience in a way that some of the other records we’ve done – or maybe the past three records – haven’t.
“When they’re supposed to hit, they really hit home. You can see it on the people’s faces.”
Cave continued: “The new stuff sounds awesome. It’s like the songs hadn’t arrived yet on the record, but they do when they get onstage, and these songs are just epic, like gloriously grandiose in a way that only the Bad Seeds can do.
“It’s incredibly emotional. It’s quite something for us to arrive at this point so early on in a tour. Usually it takes a few gigs to sort of work stuff out, but this is really encouraging.”
Nick also confessed that he rarely listens to music as it distracts him when he is trying to work.
He said: “I just don’t listen to a lot of new music. I don’t go scouring record shops to try and find things. I’m not sure I listen to a lot of music, actually. I should listen to more.
“I enjoy it when I do, but I just find it impossible to play music and work at the same time. And I find very little time to sit down and actually listen to music as it should be listened to.”
Asked what music he does listen to, he replied: “Anything that doesn’t have words: jazz, ambient, or choral music. I can work if I have non-lyrical music on.”

“We are coming. You are most welcome.”

Last week, the ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ rockers announce the first international dates for the ‘Oasis Live 25’ tour, with tickets for shows in Toronto, Chicago, New Jersey, Los Angeles and Mexico City selling out immediatley.
The Britpop icons have already sold out 19 stadium shows across the UK and Ireland next summer.

Coldplay’s Moon Music becomes fast-selling album in UK this year by a British act

OHMYGOSSIP — Coldplay’s ‘Moon Music’ record has become the fastest-selling UK album of 2024 by a British act.
The group – made up of Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland and Will Champion – sold more than 160,000 copies of their new album in 72 hours, and as a result they look set to land the biggest week for a British act on the UK’s Official Albums Chart since 2021.
At that time, Adele’s album ’30’ debuted at number one with 261,000 chart units.
If ‘Moon Music’ continues its impressive numbers, it will be Coldplay’s 10th consecutive number one studio album in the UK.
Taylor Swift sold 270,000 copies of her ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ record earlier this year, to set the record for the fastest-selling album of 2024 so far.
But ‘Moon Music’ looks on track to defeat it.
Coldplay’s latest record was their 10th studio album, and they are only planning to make 12 before hanging up the microphone.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Chris recently said: “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Yeah. I promise.
“Because less is more. And for some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit.
“There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 and a half Beatles albums. There’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all of our heroes.
“Also having that limit means the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great. And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve.”

James Blunt vows to change name to whatever fans want on one condition

OHMYGOSSIP — James Blunt will change his name to whatever fans want if he lands a number one.
The ‘You’re Beautiful’ hitmaker has promised he would do “anything” to climb to the top of the charts again with the 20th anniversary re-released of his classic debut album ‘Back To Bedlam’, and he will even change his moniker.
He told Radio X’s ‘The Chris Moyles Show’: “I have signed up to changing my name to whatever the public want – they can change my name.
“It’s a genuine thing. I swear on my life and the life of my one fan – Brian from Glasgow – I will change my name should it hit number one.”
However, the 50-year-old singer admitted he has some concerns about what route the public could take if he does need to change his name, particularly if they choose something that rhymes with Blunt.
He quipped: “James cucking funt… as long as it’s not, you know, Blunty McBluntface.”
‘Back To Bedlam’ – which topped the UK album charts when it was first released in 2004 – featured James’ timeless hit ‘You’re Beautiful’, which he previously revealed was based on a true story.
Writing in a piece for Metro newspaper’s Rush Hour Crush column, he said: “First impressions are everything. I can feel someone’s spirit and soul when I first meet them.
“People do have an energy, and you can sense someone who’s aggressive, or someone who’s kind, or someone who’s gentle. Silence speaks often so much more than words…
“It’s a true story. She was an ex. She was with her new boyfriend – I didn’t know that he existed. But we walked past each other, we caught each other’s eye.”
The ‘Goodbye My Lover’ singer – who is now married to Sofia Wellesley – recalled “living a lifetime” for the split second that he and his ex clapped eyes on each other and immediately felt inspired to put pen to paper for the now-anthemic track.
He added: “We lived a lifetime in that moment but I didn’t do anything about it. I just went home and wrote a song about it and got a house out of it – the whole thing. So, I’m happy for them.”

The Last Dinner Party cancel 4 more tour dates due to ‘unforeseen illness’

OHMYGOSSIP — The Last Dinner Party have cancelled four more tour dates due to “unforeseen illness”.
The ‘Nothing Matters’ hitmakers had to axe shows in Lincoln and Cardiff last weekend “due to a sudden illness within the band”, and the group have now been left “devastated” after they had to cancel four more gigs in Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol, and Southampton, which were due to take place on October 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th respectively this week.
A post on the band’s official X page read: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the difficult decision to cancel our upcoming headline tour dates in Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol, and Southampton.
This is due to an unforeseen illness in the band and, following medical advice, we have to prioritise our health at this time.
“We are devastated not to be sharing these nights with you, and to have missed the shows in Lincoln and Cardiff. You should all know you’ve made this the most wonderful year of our lives and we can’t thank you enough for your love and support. Truly.”
The Last Dinner Party revealed fans will be issued refunds “usually within 15 days”.
They added: “TLDP is here today because of you and we want to keep touring and sharing our music with you for a long long time – but in order to do that we have to make serious decisions like these now so that our long term health doesn’t suffer.
Refunds will be issued by your point of purchase to the original method of payment – usually within 15 days.
Thank you for understanding xxxxx (sic)”
The group’s Lincoln show was cancelled late on, when some fans had already entered The Engine Shed venue.
However, some male supporters took to social media to claim they had screened discriminately upon entry.
In response, The Last Dinner Party said in a statement: “We’ve been made aware of some security policies implemented at our show in Lincoln on Saturday, that have understandably left many of our fans feeling uncomfortable and disrespected.
“We want to make it very clear that those policies were created and enforced by the venue at their own discretion, and were not made in consultation with us. They do not reflect our beliefs and would not have been implemented had we been made aware of them in advance. We understand the venue is currently conducting an urgent investigation into the reports surrounding the conditions of entry. Our shows are intended to be safe, welcoming spaces for everyone, which is something we deeply care about. Seeing inclusivity embraced by our fanbase is one of the best parts of performing live. The venue has since apologised, and assured us that measures are being taken to prevent this from happening again at future shows.
“Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend our shows. We are appalled and disappointed that anyone was made to feel otherwise. We welcome The Engine Shed’s investigation and further staff training to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. The cancellation of our show in Lincoln was due to a sudden illness within the band that we had obviously not foreseen, we apologise to all of you that were in attendance.
“Thanks again for all your support. It means more than you’ll ever know.”
The Engine Shed said in a statement: “We pride ourselves on and are committed to operating a safe, secure, inclusive, and welcoming venue for all our guests. We are aware of reports on social media that the entry procedure utilised at The Last Dinner Party on September 28th fell far short of our venue entry policy, which requires all attendees to be treated equally and be subject to the same entry requirements.
“We have urgently carried out a preliminary investigation today, which indicates that after information was provided to our security team about incidents at a previous The Last Dinner Party gig, the venue management team made an ad-hoc change to our policy. Although the policy was changed with the right intentions, this change resulted in the unacceptable treatment of some guests, and The Engine Shed would like to fully apologise to anyone affected. We have instigated an independent investigation that will review all of the reports and will make recommendations on actions to be taken. These recommendations will be implemented by our Directors. As an urgent measure, we will also be implementing further staff training on our door entry policy to ensure that this cannot happen again.”

Jade Thirlwall to shoot big-budget new music video in Los Angeles

OHMYGOSSIP — Jade Thirlwall will fly to Los Angeles to shoot a big-budget music video for her second solo single.
The former Little Mix star is set to team up with accomplished director David LaChapelle – who has overseen the videos for Christina Aguilera’s ‘Dirrty’ and the Britney Spears tune ‘Everytime’ – in what will be his first music clip for more than a decade.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Jade is working flat out but still can’t believe her luck that David has agreed to head up her next video.
“She will fly to LA this week and then the video will be filmed over four consecutive days. They both have big plans for what they want to achieve.
“Like with her debut ‘Angel Of My Dreams’, Jade has full-on choreography planned.”
Jade released her first solo single earlier this year and described how she wrote her “best music” when she stopped worrying about trying to come up with a hit that would be ideal for the radio or something that would work on TikTok.
The 31-year-old singer told Rebecca Judd on Apple Music 1: “I think I’ve actually surprised myself creatively. I think the minute I stopped caring as much about like, ‘Oh gosh, what’s going to work on radio, what’s a TikTok hit and all this stuff’, I started writing my best music.
“So I think I needed this time to evolve and know who I am as my own artist.”
Jade explained that she had adopted an “experimental vibe” for her first solo album as female artists now have a lot more “creative freedom”.
She said: “There’s a lot of songs on the record that have that same experimental vibe. I’d say the record as a whole, to be honest, I definitely have a few of the kind of, I guess more straight down the line poppy songs on there, but peppered in with the chaos, that is my brain …
“I think there’s a really exciting time in music now where it’s evolved to a point where, especially for women in music, there’s a lot more creative freedom.”

Madonna starts work on new album with producer Stuart Price

OHMYGOSSIP — Madonna is working on a new album with producer Stuart Price.
The Queen of Pop worked with Price on her acclaimed 2005 record ‘Confessions on a Dance Floor’ as well as her recent Celebration Tour and the pair will be collaborating in the studio once again as the ‘Material Girl’ hitmaker plots her first album since 2019’s ‘Madame X’.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Stuart was credited with helping Madonna return to form with their ‘Confessions’ album, so for her to start working again with him is hugely exciting.
“That record was incredible and Madonna is excited about what they can come up with.
“It has been five years since she released ‘Madame X’, which was a concept album and Madonna is ready to put down some new tunes.
“Working with Stu on her tour reignited the spark. She has fire in her belly and cannot wait to get started.”
The 66-year-old singer confirmed that she was working with Price at his home studio in London through a series of posts on Instagram – where she also shared snaps of herself and boyfriend Akeem Morris cheering Chelsea to victory in their Premier League clash with Brighton at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
Price revealed last year how the ‘Hung Up’ singer had convinced him to get involved in her Celebration Tour that marked her 40 years in music.
He said: “When she announced the greatest hits tour I called her just to say, ‘Congratulations, I think this is a great idea.’
“And she said, ‘I was just thinking about you, and I thought you’d be the perfect person to work with on this.’
“So two weeks later, I went to New York.”

Circa Waves album is inspired by frontman Kieran Shudall’s brush with death

OHMYGOSSIP — Circa Waves’ latest album was inspired by frontman Kieran Shudall’s life-saving heart surgery.
The indie group had to cancel a number of shows last year when Shudall was hospitalised with viral pericarditis -inflammation around the heart – and he explained that his health scare had considerable influence on the record ‘Death and Love, Part 1’, which is due for release in January 2025.
Kieran told NME: “I thought I might die before I made this record, and then I didn’t, and I got to make an album of music that I loved. The shackles were off, in a way, because I had this newfound joy and excitement for being alive.”
The vocalist and guitarist explained that his “genuinely terrifying” brush with death is covered in the new single ‘We Made It’ and he is particularly grateful for the opportunity to continue making music with bandmates Sam Rourke, Colin Jones and Joe Falconer.
He said: “It was genuinely terrifying. The record covers that in the lyrics a little bit. I’ve got a wife and child, so the idea of leaving them behind was just a mad feeling. The material of the record came out quite quickly because the emotions were so high, I guess.
“You feel like you’re invincible until something like that. That’s the kind of thing that happens to other people, not you. (But) it gave me a new lease of life.”
Kieran added: “Now that’s happened, I look forward to everything a lot more. The idea of going to play another tour or release another record, it’s given me that excitement back.
“This is our sixth album, and I was just so buzzing to go in the studio again and make music with my friends, because you can become a little bit complacent through the years. Everything feels fresh again, which is quite cool. It’s a weird byproduct of thinking you might die.”

‘Remember the earlier stuff’: Chris Martin outlines Coldplay’s plans once they stop making albums

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Martin says Coldplay will “remember the earlier stuff” once they stop making albums.
The 47-year-old singer has confirmed that the ‘Clocks’ band will only make two more albums after their latest record ‘Moon Music’ is released on Friday (04.10.24) and they intend to revisit some of their older work in the coming years – in a similar way to how Liam Gallagher has celebrated the 30th anniversary of Oasis’ debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ this year.
Speaking to NME, Chris said: “What Liam has just done with ‘Definitely Maybe’ has reignited that album.
“We will get to a point where it will be fun and to not re-release but remember the earlier stuff and enjoy it again and do things specific to those periods.
“I have an idea for another type of show that’s more of a hotch-potch of everything. Maybe it’s not always about trying to be in stadiums, but you can do small things where you try and play the odd songs.”
Chris confessed that he is looking forward to winding down once the ‘Higher Power’ group complete their final two albums.
The frontman said: “It’s like when someone becomes a football pundit and stops trying to score goals.
“I feel that within a few years, it might go a little bit more that way for myself. Not right now. Right now I’m super hungry and so excited to go to work every day. It’s such a clear picture of what we’re supposed to be doing.”
Coldplay are donating 10 per cent of the profits from the UK stadium shows next summer – which include a record 10 nights at Wembley Stadium – to the Music Venue Trust and Chris fears that the closure of smaller venues will prevent acts from honing their talent.
He said: “It doesn’t bother me that there might not be another Coldplay, but it does bother me that there might not be acts that are free to start on the bottom rung and work all the way up – so by the time they get to stadiums, they are really good. You can’t just jump into that.”
Martin added: “With all of the artists that are playing stadiums next year, it’s no coincidence that all of them started in a van, driving around and playing pubs: Oasis, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, the truth is all there. Taylor Swift has probably played more than anyone in tiny Nashville venues and county fairs.”

Jack Antonoff shares plan to build public recording studios

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Antonoff wants to build public recording studios in LGBTQ+ youth shelters.
The Bleachers frontman is planning to “spend a large part of the next chapter” of his life giving back via his Ally Coalition foundation in order to offer music facilities to those who “wouldn’t have access to them” without support.
The 40-year-old producer reflected on how he has enjoyed being able to work anywhere, from his home studio to hotel rooms and even on planes, but because his life “changed in a recording studio”, he feels it is time to “share that with those who might not find themselves there otherwise but need to be.”
He added in a statement shared to Instagram: “I plan to spend a large part of the next chapter of my life bringing these spaces to people who wouldn’t have access to them. Public studios available to those who aren’t priced out.
“It’s going to take time and a lot of resources but over here we have a plan that starts with working through the Ally Coalition to build studios in LGBTQ+ youth shelters.
“From there, our plan is to build these spaces, pay for maintenance and engineering and let the centers give out the time slots for people to use them. From there we can start to expand into cities once we have it happening.”
Jack explained he had announced the initiative early in order to raise awareness and inspire others to get involved.
Asking those who could help to contact studio@theallycoalition.org, he wrote: “Anyone who believes in this and has resources that can help should please reach out as we get this off the ground.”
The musician acknowledged he was trying to launch free facilities during a bad time for the recording studio industry as demand for commercial space has dropped, but he insisted it would be “helpful”.
He noted: “Lastly, to all the commercial studios I love, this concept is strictly for those who cannot afford studio time in those spaces so it’s my belief that this is helpful to our spaces as well.”
