Renee Rapp believes fashion choices ‘are personal to everybody’

OHMYGOSSIP — Renee Rapp believes fashion choices “are personal to everybody”.
‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ star made the admission while revealing she and her character Leighton Murray – who recently came out as a lesbian – does not style herself the “way” she ever would.
The 22-year-old actress told InStyle magazine: “There could be not more stark of a f****** difference between Leighton and myself. There is no single piece of clothing or anything that I would want from Leighton’s closet. That b**** is not dressing the way I want to dress. Literally, burn it.
“No, but I think this has been an internal conversation with me for a while because clothes are something that are personal to everybody, but for me specifically, they’re very, very, very important. I’ve struggled with eating disorders my whole life and I feel very comfortable talking about it, and clothes have always either been a protective mechanism or something that makes me feel like myself because obviously they’re a way of expression and the way that you’re physically perceived.”
Renee sometimes forgets she is “playing a character” when she has to don Leighton’s wardrobe in the Mindy Kaling-created HBO series.
She said: “But oh my god, sometimes when I would put on Leighton’s s***, I would be like, ‘Oh, Jesus Christ.’ I have to remember that I’m playing a character. It would give me the most crisis sort of feeling in the whole wide world. It’s a jump scare.”
The ‘In The Kitchen’ hitmaker – who recently dropped her first album ‘Everything to Everyone’ – shared that being a musician “is the only thing” she’s ever longed to do with her life after shooting to fame as Regina George on Broadway’s musical adaption of ‘Mean Girls’, the 2004 Tina Fey movie about high school girl power dynamics.
Renee said: “Music is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do. My two biggest insecurities growing up were, I thought I was a horrible songwriter and I thought I was a terrible actor. So, I don’t think I ever thought about acting as being a feasible thing for me, really, so it wasn’t really in my view. I thought, ‘OK, I’m going to have a music career and then hopefully it’ll blow up and then one day I might do a movie.’
“But music has always been the only thing that I love like that, so I don’t even know if it’s a preference. It’s just more so what I am supposed to be doing and I’m very fortunate to also be able to act in that regard.”

Pamela Anderson’s hairdresser had no clue what the “impact” of her blonde hair on Baywatch would be

OHMYGOSSIP — Pamela Anderson’s hairdresser didn’t understand the “impact” of the look he gave her for ‘Baywatch’.
Kim Vo – whose clients have included Alicia Silverstone, Goldie Hawn and her daughter Kate Hudson – took credit for the blonde bombshell’s character CJ Parker iconic beachy blowout on the lifeguard series that began airing in 1989.
The celeb colourist told the Sun newspaper: “That blonde hair with the red swimsuit is my work.
“I was like 20, 21, and doing this and just not understanding the impact hair has. I was very young and she was amazing and starting her career.”
The ‘Blowing LA’ star needed to get Pamela’s on-set hairstylist to “describe” what to do to cover up her roots when he wasn’t there.
He said: “This is way before FaceTime and Skyping and all this. “So we would be on the phone and she’d be like, ‘Am I doing this right?’ and I’m like, ‘I can’t see it, love. Describe what you’re doing’.”
Kim labelled how his big break came from working with Gwyneth Paltrow in 1997, who dropped in his name in Vogue magazine.
He said: “She’s got her own masseuses. She’s got it all set up.
“She’s one of those people who’s the best hostess. She’s got her world.
“I only do hair colour. I don’t blow dry or cut. So I bring our little glam squad with me.
“But it was after Gwyneth that Vogue magazine voted me the best blonder in the business, so this is when the journey started with all my blondes.”
Kim also spilled how pop superstar Britney Spears – who Kim has been doing her highlights since she was a teenager – would get him to go through “a private entrance”.
Kim said “I’ve been doing her hair since she was 18.
“We could go to suites and do their hair. So we didn’t necessarily have to go to their homes.
“They could come to us and we can have a private entrance, a private elevator that goes right up to the room.”

Lydia West loves to ’embrace’ her natural features

OHMYGOSSIP — Lydia West loves to “embrace” her natural features.
The 29-year-old actress explained that while she used to use make-up as a way to “change her identity”, these days she prefers to highlight what she already has and believes that “general health” can benefit her skin.
She said: “It’s changed quite a bit: I used to cover up my face as a way to almost change identity, but now I embrace natural features and I love that in beauty now; I like highlighting freckles and seeing real skin that’s dewy and fresh. Beyond make-up, I believe general health and wellbeing helps the skin and then I use make-up to highlight what I already have.”
However, the ‘It’s a Sin’ actress went on to add that while in her day-to-day life she likes to have a “fresh, natural” look, for red carpets she likes to “have fun” and tends to match her make-up to her outfit.
Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar ahead of the Women of the Year Awards, she said: “In my day-to-day I like a fresh, natural look: a brow, highlighter and blusher. For the longest time I didn’t wear blusher and now I’m like ‘why did I not wear it?!’ – having that natural-looking colour is youthful, fresh and energetic and that’s how I approach beauty now. I like to have fun for an event or red carpet. I match it with the look I’m wearing. So like tonight I have quite a classic dress, so I wanted something more classic while contemporary with my make-up. It’s a smouldery eye but highlighted. But I also like to experiment, especially as I get to work with amazing artists all the time. I play around and trying new things, but I remain true to myself and what I can feel confident and beautiful in.”

Avril Lavigne ‘stays true’ to her skater style

OHMYGOSSIP — Avril Lavigne “stays true” to her original skater style.
The 38-year-old star shot to fame as a teenager in the early 2000s with hits such as ‘Complicated’ and ‘I’m With You’ and explained that the skater-punk style of clothes she was known for is still present today.
She said: “My style has changed since then. It now ranges from tomboy skate to rock glam—all mixed with pieces of high fashion. I still stay true to my skate style, and I like to wear what is comfortable. I love wearing oversized hoodies, Dr. Martens, plaid skirts, and corsets. For style inspiration, I have been looking to high fashion and designers like Vivienne Westwood and Versace.”
The ‘Sk8r Boi’ hitmaker launched a collection with KILLSTAR earlier this year and explained that she wanted to switch up traditional punk colours and wanted to create something she would wear herself on stage.
She told ELLE: “This year, I launched a brand new collection in collaboration with KILLSTAR. I approached designing the collection knowing that I wanted it to tie in with my album Love Sux. I wanted to utilize an orange and black colour scheme. There were specific pieces that I wanted to see, like plaid skater skirts. But instead of a classic punk red and black, I wanted to see it in orange and black. What is cool about this collection is that every piece is something I would wear onstage.
“There is an incredible resurgence of artists paying tribute to pop-punk today. I love seeing this new generation take pop-punk and, not only make it their own, but also allow it to influence what they are doing. I am so excited about the direction the genre is heading. I love being a part of pop-punk’s past—and also a part of its future.”

Hailey Bieber’s latest Rhode product smells like her wedding cake

OHMYGOSSIP — Hailey Bieber’s latest Rhode product reminds her of her wedding cake.
The 25-year-old model’s beauty brand is launching the vanilla cake-flavored Peptide Lip Treatment on November 22, and she is reminded of the heavenly scent of her cake that was made for her nuptials to pop star husband Justin Bieber in 2018.
She told Refinery29: “[It] was vanilla on vanilla, but with a little bit of a spiced filling and it was so good, it was literally the best vanilla cake I’ve had in my entire life.”
When it comes to keeping her lips soft, Hailey insisted “nonstop moisture” is key.
Sharing her tips, she told the publication: “Honestly, I’m not a big lip mask person. The lip treatment is my lip balm, lip mask, lip gloss — this is my everything. I do struggle when it starts to get cold and sometimes you get that layer of weird, dry skin and nothing can get it off. Sometimes at night what I’ll do is when I’m using a thicker moisturiser — like a thicker, balmy rich type that really packs a punch of moisture — I’ll put it all over my face and then put it on my lips and seal it in with peptide lip or something of that sort. Other than that, if I exfoliate my lips, I only do it gently with a warm washcloth because my lips are really, really sensitive. They’ll swell up from anything they don’t like, like spicy food swells up my lips. I try to treat them really gently. And moisture nonstop.”

Tom Ford acquired by Estee Lauder for a whopping $2.8 billion

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Ford is being acquired by Estée Lauder for $2.8 billion.
The Estée Lauder licensed Tom Ford Beauty line boosted sales upon its launch in 2006, and it’s expected to bring in net profits of $1 billion over the coming years.
And now, cosmetics giant Lauder will expand its business with the designer brand, starting with apparel.
The Tom Ford Eyewear license owner, Marcolin, will pay $250 million towards the sale.
Ford said: “I could not be happier with this acquisition.”
Fabrizio Freda, president and CEO of Estée Lauder, said: “This strategic acquisition will unlock new opportunities and fortify our growth plans for Tom Ford Beauty. It will also further help to propel our momentum in the promising category of luxury beauty for the long-term while reaffirming our commitment to being the leading pure player in global prestige beauty.”
Tom Ford will remain creative director until 2023 at least.
In 2020, Ford urged the government to support fashion businesses as sales plummeted amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The 61-year-old fashion designer – who is also the chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) – called on the US government to announce help for fashion companies too, as part of the federal stimulus package from Washington.
In a statement, he said at the time: “I would suspect and hope that this is the chief focus of any fashion organisation now: taking care of their people. Inclusion of the fashion industry in the $1.6 trillion stimulus package expected to be released imminently is critical and of the utmost importance for us all. The CFDA understands that the industry needs immediate critical support and is working to access relief at the federal and local levels.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ashley Park wants people to be “empowered” by her Rent the Runway Christmas collection.
The ‘Emily in Paris’ star is a big fan of a “suit silhouette”, rich fabrics and being “sexy and flirty” and wanted these things to be translated into her festive range with the online retailer that gives shoppers the option to borrow or buy the garments.
The 31-year-old actress told PEOPLE magazine: “I love anything with a suit silhouette. I also love having something that feels like velvet, and like elevated material, but also some cleavage and maybe a fun low back — something sexy and flirty. We really thought of things that make somebody feel empowered.”
Ashley wants the clothes for the ‘Ashley Park x Rent the Runway’ to be “something that I’m gonna feel good in when I walk into the party and turn heads, and then also feel good at the end of the night after I have been chatting, and eating and drinking all night.”

Lindsay Lohan misses the fashion world

OHMYGOSSIP — Lindsay Lohan misses “being involved in the fashion scene”.
The ‘Falling for Christmas’ star cited how she got “backlash” when she was in creative control of the brand Ungaro – after the head designer Estrella Archs made her “artistic director” – and got the models on the runway at Paris Fashion Week to sport “nipple tassels” but now “everyone” is doing the same thing 13 years later.
The 36-year-old actress told Who What Wear: “I haven’t gone to Paris in so long. I haven’t gone to Fashion Week. I miss that. I do miss being involved in the fashion scene. It’s funny. I think about when I was creative director for Ungaro, and I got so much backlash for putting nipple tassels on the girls on the runway, and now, everyone does that, or they’re not wearing anything, and I’m like, [laughs] ‘That’s not fair!’”
At the time, Lindsay’s show was deemed a critical flop with fashion outlets such as WWD dubbing it “an embarrassment” and the Cut labelling it “disastrous” but has since been viewed with fresh eyes.
The ‘Mean Girls’ star – who avoided the Hollywood glare by moving to Dubai for a number of years – spilled she wanted to do the festive Netflix movie co-starring ‘Glee’ star Chord Overstreet, 33, because it felt like less “pressure”.
She told the magazine: “I wanted to do something where people felt like I hadn’t left. You know a lot of people say ‘comeback’ and stuff, and that puts a lot of pressure on the situation, and I’m not one that wants that attention.”
Lindsay also said “I’m not the kind of person that thinks about the movies I’ve done and how well versed I am in this industry,” before she enthused about the “routine” of the movie business.
She continued: “I love my matcha latte, or now, I’ve switched to oat-milk coffee, which I feel fancy even saying. I am that really cheery person every morning on set. I love greeting my crew and doing my own audio mic. And I always look forward to my short 30-minute lunch break. It just excites me.”

Keke Palmer was happy to showcase her natural hair in Jordan Peele’s Nope

OHMYGOSSIP — Keke Palmer was “so glad” director Jordan Peele let her sport her “natural hair” in ‘Nope’.
The ‘Hustlers’ star was happy to “represent” her Black heritage via her tresses when she played Emerald Haywood, the little sister of Daniel Kaluuya’s character Otis ‘OJ’ Haywood Jr in the 2022 horror film.
Speaking at Teen Vogue Summit 2022, the 29-year-old actress said:“The number one thing that he knew was that he knew he wanted Emerald to have my ‘fro. Like he was searching on my Instagram page and he said, ‘This is Emerald right here.’ [I was like,] ‘I’m so glad that this is the look that you chose [for me] to wear on the main stage and represent my natural hair in this way, honey!”
Keke – while appearing at the event in Los Angeles produced by the teen magazine – revealed the 43-year-old filmmaker “encouraged” her to “improv” with his material a little bit.
She said during her keynote: There’s a script, and the script is like your guideline. And the character’s not going to change just because you say that one little thing. But [Peele] definitely encouraged me to improv. Like in the scene where Emerald has that big monologue in the beginning where she’s talking about the Haywood history. We did that so many times that by the end, I was like, Maybe I can add some ad libs to it, and he’ll be cool with it. So I started doing the whole singing on the side. And he encouraged it, he loved it! So I just kept going with it.”

Marc Jacques Burton’s ‘epic’ Overwatch 2 collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Marc Jacques Burton says it was “epic” creating a high fashion collection centring around four of the
key heroes from video game ‘Overwatch 2’.
The creative director of his self-titled company launched the collaboration, which sees each hero have an “everyday look” as well as a “hero look”, at an event at London’s The Cinema at Selfridges on Sunday night (13.11.22).
The campaign featured British rapper Giggs wearing the Lucio character collection from ‘Overwatch 2’, British actress Wallis Day wearing the Kiriko character collection, British actor and musician Hope Ikpoku Jnr wearing the Genji character collection, and Nigerian-born British Afrobeat singer Darkoo, who wore the Sojourn character collection.
Marc said: “It has been epic to partner with Overwatch 2 to create high end fashion pieces based on my favourite characters from the game Lucio, Kiriko, Sojourn and Genji.
“I normally work with musicians creating stage and studio pieces for them. Instead of designing for musicians I was working with ‘Overwatch 2’ video game characters.
“It pushed me to think through the personality traits of each video game character and create pieces that they could save the world in.
“I am super excited for everyone to see the incredible new spiked organza fabric we have developed as well as the all over pocket design of Lucio’s hero outfit.
“The campaign was so much fun to shoot with Giggs, Wallis Day, Hope Ikpoku Jnr and Darkoo.”
Suki Waterhouse, who recently released her latest EP ‘Milk Teeth’, opened up the night performing two of her tracks with an acoustic set.
She said: “Marc’s designs are just like him, you always know he is in the room.”
Giggs closed the night with his performance.
He added: “I met Marc and he showed me some of his designs and I was like, ‘This is cold, bruv.’ ”
Speaking at the event, Marc said: “Video games, fashion and music are all incredibly interrelated now. For tonight, I wanted to combine all of these elements when launching the MJB X Overwatch 2 collection.
“The core message from ‘Overwatch’ is that, ‘heroes aren’t born but made.’ I wanted to find real life examples of this.
“The performers tonight Giggs, Suki, Hope and Darkoo have all shown that through hard work and self belief what can be achieved.
“They have been able to live their dreams and become heroes to many of us. I really appreciate everyone who has supported the launch of this collaboration here tonight at The Cinema in Selfridges.”

The ex Popworld presenter lets her outfit “lead” what her makeup looks like but she sports a “phone box” crimson lipstick “a lot” because its goes with much of what she dons.
The 39-year-old model told InStyle magazine: “It always goes hand in hand with what I’m wearing. So, makeup is never necessarily the thing I lead with, it’s more in response to whatever I’ve got on. But if I’m feeling crazy, I’ll put a lip on. Previously with Code8 I made a pillar box red lip, which kind of looks like the phone boxes in London. It’s a very classic poppy red. So that’s a color that I wear a lot because again, it fits into a classic look.”
Alexa admitted she is “more inclined” to go for a dramatic eye at showbiz parties as lipstick can go a bit wrong when mixed with nibbles and is inspired by the HBO teen drama ‘Euphoria’ when it comes to hair accessories.
She said: “For nighttime, if I’m going to an event or someone’s party, I’m more inclined to do a coal on the upper lid or a more dramatic eye. And that’s simply because I like drinking wine and I like eating whatever else they’ve got around. And I’ve always got s*** in my teeth and the lipstick’s moved, so it’s just easier for me to approach it from an eye.
“I also really like hair accessories at the moment, like diamante clips or a Simone Rocha one. And for the holidays I am a bit more experimental. Even though it’s a cliché, I might add silver glitter. I love a bare face and then silver glitter – that’s my ‘Euphoria’ nod.”

Emma D’Arcy joked they are ‘allergic’ to having long hair

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma D’Arcy joked they are “allergic” to having long hair.
The ‘House of Dragon’ star – whose uses they/them pronouns – does not want to rock the same hairdos their character Princess Rhaenyra sports on the HBO prequel to ‘Game of Thrones’ but has massive respect for the “art of wigging”.
The 30-year-old actor told the digital edition of GQ: “The word I used when explaining it was that I am almost ‘allergic’ to lots of hair”
“I think the art of wigging is complete magic. They are made for you, so they fit your head perfectly. The illusion is seamless. Immediately, a good wig changes your behaviour, your posture, but also, fractionally, it changes how you are read and perceived.”
Emma is not “fond” of getting dolled up in conventionally feminine ways on the red carpet either.
They said: “‘Glamour’ is not a word I’m particularly fond of… I have an awkward relationship with it.”
“In those inherently public spaces, I try to distance myself from myself. I want to be at least two steps to the left of me, because it can be very vulnerable being out there in these places as myself.”
Last month, Emma gushed about how “grateful” they were about their co-star Matt Smith, who is veteran of big budget projects like ‘The Crown’ and ‘Doctor Who’ and plays Daemon Targaryen from the George RR Martin-created world.
They said: “God, I’m so grateful to Matt. I’ve learned a lot from him. I’ve learned how to play in what can be an intense environment. He has taught me how to ignore the various pressures, the time pressures, all the things that come with shooting on this scale, and tap back into those first principles.”

Letitia Wright used to think ‘straighter hair was better’ before Black Panther

OHMYGOSSIP — Letitia Wright used to think “straighter hair was better”.
The ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ star says the Marvel franchise centring on Black superheroes helped her “embrace” her “own beauty” instead of adhering to Western standards.
The 29-year-old actress told Glamour magazine’s Unfiltered video series: “I think that unfortunately, I was pulled into the belief that straighter hair was better and unfortunately I did hair processing as a kid and lost all the natural beauty of it. But then it was actually playing Shuri and having her braids and seeing everything be so celebrated in the films that really encouraged me to embrace my own beauty with my hair. So yeah, that’s been a journey that I’ve been on and one I’m really proud of.”
Letitia was “definitely inspired” by Shuri – her character in the movie – and her “pretty cool” hairstyles.
She said: “I was definitely inspired by the looks in the new movie. Shuri has a mohawk in the middle, so then the sides had to be cut down. It’s a pretty cool look, but it would take a while for it to just get all in sync and I just felt inspired to just do the chop.”
The ‘Small Axe’ star works on “combating” her insecurities by working on her “inner beauty”.
Letitia said: “I can see how those standards that are out there or those expectations can make you feel insecure or not good enough. But it’s really about reversing that, I think it’s about finding out what makes you beautiful on the inside and allowing that to shine. And I think I’m finding my way through that. So if you see me being confident of flexin’, it’s because it’s the inner beauty that I’ve established in myself before anyone else tells me to. So I think that’s my way of combating all of those expectations. At the end of the day, it’s just there to make people feel insecure and that’s not really helpful.”
