Tyra Banks returns to modelling for Karen Millen

OHMYGOSSIP — Tyra Banks has returned to the world of fashion and modelling as the new face of Karen Millen’s ICONS Series.
The ‘America’s Next Top Model’ creator follows in the footsteps of Helena Christensen, Paulina Porizkova, Elizabeth Hurley, and Elle Macpherson in fronting the campaign.
The “affordable” collection will have wearers chanelling their “inner catwalk”, according to the former Victoria’s Secret Angel.
The pieces include a series of figure-hugging bodycon dresses and a trench coat.
Tyra, 49, served as creative director for the photoshoot.
In a statement, she said: “I am thrilled to be part of the Karen Millen ICONS Series and feel honoured to be featured alongside some of the most iconic supermodels in history. It humbles me to call them peers. People are going to channel their inner catwalk in these dynamic pieces as they power-strut down the runways of their world. The collection exudes glam meets luxury, and I love that the price point makes them affordable for everybody everywhere.”
Natasha Hackett, Karen Millen’s brand director, added: “We are so thrilled to work with Tyra Banks, her radiant charisma, natural beauty, and steadfast diligence make her an indisputable ICON. With female empowerment at the heart of the brand, this latest campaign promises to embody the core values of our customers.”
The Karen Millen ICONS Series Vol. 5 is available via www.karenmillen.com.
In 2019, Tyra came out of her modelling retirement for a series of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers.
A year later, she admitted she was “30 pounds heavier” after indulging.
In a video clip with Harper’s Bazaar, she said: “I have a very interesting relationship with food. I have to say that it is one of the most important things in my life.
“Right now, you can’t tell because I have on a men’s blazer, [but] I am 25 pounds heavier than I was on the cover of a very famous swimsuit magazine that came out last year.”
The reality television star had no regrets about the extra weight she gained as she has always enjoyed dining out and tests herself to eat at various restaurants throughout the year as one of her hobbies.
She explained: “A lot of my personal life and the things that I like to do and my hobby is food. Finding new restaurants, doing a challenge where I can’t go to the same restaurant again for six months, finding food festivals. I love a supper club, it is a true, very important thing to me.
“It’s like when you’re tired and working hard, you go to this fast food and this fast food restaurant and you compare the burgers, so I’m 30 pounds heavier and it’ll come off one day but not today.”

Emily Ratajkowski breaks free of fashion rules

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Ratajkowski used to feel intimidated by fashion until she realised there were no rules that couldn’t be broken.
The 32-yearold model-and-actress was too self-conscious to experiment with her style when she was in her teens and 20s, but as she got older she realised she was dressing according to a set of strict rules that only existed in her own head.
In an interview to Vogue, she said: “I think that fashion really used to intimidate me. I felt like there were rules that I didn’t understand.

Austin Butler: Yves Saint Laurent is an inspiration to me

OHMYGOSSIP — Austin Butler says late French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent has “inspired him as an individual”.
The ‘Elvis’ actor, 32, has been unveiled as the ambassador for YSL’s new MYSLF fragrance, and he is ecstatic to be the latest global ambassador for the luxury French fashion house because he is a big admirer of the company’s late founder – who died in June 2008 at the age of 71.
He told WWD: “I’ve been a fan of YSL for a long time. Many, many years, just aesthetically.
“Once I started to learn more about Yves Saint Laurent, the man, what a rebel he was and how he broke through labels — and also how he delved into his own psyche and how it was about his relationship with himself and trying to understand himself, I started to be more and more inspired by him as an individual.”
The new fragrance, which incorporates orange blossoms, evoked nostalgia in Austin, who grew up with an Orange tree in his backyard.
Butler added: “One of the key notes and one of the first things that they incorporated into the fragrance was the smell of orange blossoms.
“And that was the first thing that came to my memory when I smelled it, because it was my childhood. I had this orange tree in my backyard, and so when the tree would blossom my mom and I would go and pick oranges. I just have such vivid memories of that time, so that’s really the core memory that comes up for me.”

Naomie Harris has final say on red carpet looks

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomie Harris makes the final decision on all her red carpet looks.
The 47-year-old actress – who has played Miss Moneypenny in three James Bond films – is renowned for her head turning looks at the red carpet, but she won’t be influenced by her team on what to wear.
Talking to Cosmopolitan, she said: “Dressing for the red carpet is basically getting dressed by committee, because everyone from your stylist to your manager has a say.
“You have to just block all those voices out and really focus on how you feel in the dress, because if you’re not comfortable it always shows…”
And Naomie also won’t endure any pain for the cameras, insisting she needs to feel comfortable when she steps out at any event.
She stated: “It would always be comfort first, and make sure the outfit reflects you and your limits.
“If there’s something you don’t like showing, that’s okay. That’s the great thing about fashion – there’s enough choice out there to be inclusive of everyone and different styles.”
Most recently, the ‘Moonlight’ actress fulfilled a lifelong dream by designing her own clothing collection.
Harris collaborated with eco friendly brand Omnes on a four-piece collection, inspired by red carpet outfits, to create sustainable, size inclusive and affordable clothing.
She said: “Like everyone, I had a lot of time on my hands when lockdown happened, so I restarted a long-held passion of mine: designing clothes.
“I’m not good at drawing, so I sent some really awful sketches and inspiration photos to an illustrator, and she’d make them up into these outfits. In my naivety, I thought I’d create my own brand… I’m so glad that didn’t happen, though, because it’s a tremendous amount of work – and I already have a day job!
“The brand’s ethos is perfectly aligned with mine – it’s size inclusive, affordable, sustainable and climate-positive too. So I approached them and said: ‘could I please design a capsule collection for you, which is specifically for the red carpet?’ They said yes, and a year later, here we are!”

The pop star-turned-fashion designer has revived her Fenty x Puma collaboration with the sports brand by adding a new trainer which has reinvented the brand’s Avanti sneaker – an update on the 2001 design which was based on the original King boots worn by late soccer legend Pele – and Rihanna wanted to make sure they were available for children as well as adults.

Camila Mendes reveals concealer is her beauty must-have

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Mendes says a good quality concealer is her most essential beauty product.
The ‘Riverdale’ actress has opened up about her love of cosmetics after becoming the face of Armani Beauty and she’s confessed her must-have product is a concealer and she recommends putting it on before foundation after stealing the tip from her make-up artist Carolina Gonzalez.
Revealing she uses Armani Beauty’s Luminous Silk Concealer ($39), she told Byrdie.com: “It’s the best. I can wear it as a foundation if I want. It’s one of those products that if I have it on hand, I’ll feel good anywhere I go.”
Gonzalez added of her concealer-before-foundation trick: “If all you need is concealer, I prefer to do that first instead of applying foundation. This way, you use less foundation because you’ve already covered up a bunch.”
Mendes went on to insist she prefers a natural look using as few products as possible, adding: “I could wear a nude lip, foundation, and mascara and be happy.
She always makes sure she cleanses her face properly after wearing make-up to avoid any nasty breakouts. The TV star explained: “I love using Dr. Kay Wipe Away the Day Wipes ($29) [after cleansing]. I feel like if I use them every night, especially after a long night of wearing make-up, I’m guaranteed not to break out. Using these helps me exfoliate and get all the gunk off my face.”

Researchers test ‘anti-obesity treatment’ on mice

OHMYGOSSIP — Researchers claim to have tested a potential anti-obesity treatment on mice.
Scientists at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the US fed a group of mice a high-fat, high-sugar, high-cholesterol diet for 10 weeks to double their weight and then gave them a thyromimetic drug – which mimic a synthetic thyroid hormone – delivered by injection and they found the obese animals lost weight despite continuing their unhealthy diet.
S. Thai Thayumanavan, professor of chemistry and biomedical engineering at the university, said: “The treated mice completely lost their gained weight, and we did not see any untoward side effects.
“Considering 100 million Americans have obesity and related cardiometabolic disorders, we became pretty excited about this work.
“There is a significant amount of development work to be conducted between mice and humans, but we are hoping it will eventually become a drug.”
The treated mice returned to a normal weight after five weeks of treatment despite continuing to eat a high-fat, high-sugar diet while their cholesterol levels also dropped and their liver inflammation went down.
Thayumanavan published his teams findings in a paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Start-up company Cyta Therapeutics – which was founded at the UMass Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS) – is taking on the task of trying to translate the findings into a way to help humans deal with obesity, but there is still a lot of work still to be done.
Thayumanavan added: “We really wanted to find out the factors that got affected. We found that we are activating the reverse cholesterol transport pathway, which lowers cholesterol. We believe that activation of fat oxidation and an increase in metabolic rate are causing the loss in weight, but more work needs to be done to prove that point.”

‘I don’t believe in jumping on a trend’: Sofia Richie values individual style choices

OHMYGOSSIP — Sofia Richie thinks individuality is key when it comes to style.
The 25-year-old model has captivated the internet with her taste for fashion and says that she looks to avoid copying others when it comes to dress sense.
She told Harper’s Bazaar: “Aesthetic embodies everything I’m trying to express in my personal style.
“I’ve definitely honed [it] the last few years.
“Naturally, our tastes evolve, but I don’t believe in jumping on a trend just because it’s what everyone else is wearing. I think it’s important to be your own person and recognize when something does or doesn’t feel true to you.
“I really enjoy 70s and 80s style—the way they expressed themselves and had fun with fashion has been a big source of inspiration for me.”
Sofia – the youngest daughter of music legend Lionel Richie – has launched her new jewellery collaboration with New York City-based brand David Yurman and praised the effort that goes into every piece.
She said: “While on set for the campaign shoot, I learned that David Yurman’s original twisted cable design was created more than 40 years ago and was inspired by the twisted metal ropes of the Brooklyn Bridge.

“The collection is incredibly versatile – whether you’re in jeans and a t-shirt or getting dressed up, each piece feels like a statement and effortlessly chic.”

Sadie Sink prefers to look natural on red carpets

OHMYGOSSIP — Sadie Sink is at her most confident when she looks natural.
The ‘Stranger Things’ actress finds the glitz and glamour of red carpets “overwhelming” and tries to ease any stress by wearing things that she is comfortable with.
She told Elle: “Red carpets are such weird, overwhelming places to be as it is, so I don’t like wearing anything that like looks too out of place on me. The most important thing I’ve learned is to do those things that make me feel as myself as possible. Even though I’m wearing clothes that aren’t mine and there’s new people around me, as far as I can feel comfortable and like myself, that’s what I aim for above anything else.
“I like looking like myself, the Sadie I see in the mirror everyday – that’s when I feel the most confident. Let the freckles show, that’s always the most important.”
As a redhead, the 21-year-old star revealed that she looks up to fellow flame-haired actresses Julianne Moore and Emma Stone for beauty inspiration.
She added: “I definitely look to a lot of other redheads when I’m thinking about beauty looks to try because I have similar colouring. Julianne Moore is one, Emma Stone… I definitely look to them for inspiration a lot. I also like to come up with my own looks as well, I don’t have a Pinterest board or anything though!”
Sadie explained that she would prefer to wear makeup from the 1990s and loves the tones used by the characters in the comedy series ‘Friends’.
She said: “The nineties had a more natural approach; the neutral tones in the make-up looks on ‘Friends’ are perfect.”

Amanda Seyfried made eyebrows blunder as a teenager

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Seyfried regrets plucking her eyebrows as a teenager.
The ‘Mamma Mia!’ actress says that her biggest “beauty fail” was when she blundered in an attempt to shape her eyebrows when she was still at school.
In an interview with Glamour, Amanda recalled: “I egregiously overplucked my eyebrows in high school for them never to return in full.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Mean Girls’ star learned how to appreciate beauty in its natural form after a visit to Japan had a lasting impact.
She said: “Kyoto left an incredible impression on me. In Japanese culture in general, the people are all about living within nature and trying not to change but thrive surrounded by the beauty of Mother Nature.
“Beauty, to me, is just that. Appreciating what we have, who we are, and where we come from – letting nature inform and inspire our journey inside and out of ourselves.”
Amanda, 37, also took a swipe at the beauty standards created by social media and Hollywood and would remove ‘likes’ from people’s selfies if she had the power to do so.
She added: “Let’s turn the camera around at what’s in front of us. Selfies can be nice and organic in the right context. Let’s keep it special.”
Amanda is an ambassador for beauty brand Lancome and would willingly use the company’s Brow Define pencil for the rest of her life.
She explained: “My brows are also just a little bit too blonde to see sometimes. Highlighting and appreciating the features I already have is the key.”

Megan Fox’s hairstylist reveals secrets behind bold new look

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan Fox’s hairstylist wanted her dramatic new colour to match her “fiery personality”.
The ‘Transformers’ star has changed her look and gone with a “bold” and vibrant red colour and layered bob, taking her style to another level as she’s been seen out and about in New York City with Machine Gun Kelly.
Explaining the change, stylish Dimitris Giannetos told E! News: “We wanted something major that was jaw dropping for Megan.

Sharing a photo of the book’s cover, which features a mouth biting a snake, on Instagram, she wrote: “i wrote a book [broken heart emoji]
“These poems were written in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence.
“I’ve spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men, my body aches from carrying the weight of their sins.
“My freedom lives in these pages and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their identity by using their voice to illuminate what’s been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness. (sic)”
