Jamelia didn’t embrace her natural hair when she first became successful

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamelia “never” embraced her natural hair at the start of her career.
The ‘Superstar’ hitmaker did not show off her natural locks when she emerged into the spotlight in the early 2000s as it was not the done thing for a pop star at the time.
Jamelia told Refinery29: “As a young woman, I didn’t embrace my natural texture because I didn’t see anyone else doing it; there was a lack of representation around me and in popular culture.
“During the early days of my career success, it felt normal to conform to what I now know are Western beauty standards on stage, leading to straightening my hair and erasing any hint of my hair in its natural form.”
Jamelia, 42, has taken the lead in Shea Moisture’s groundbreaking campaign, ‘Same Roots, New Rules,’ which aims to shed light on the enduring challenges faced by Black women with curly and wavy hair.
Through a heartfelt photo series, Jamelia and her teenage daughters proudly showcase their hair, symbolising a celebration of natural beauty.
The mother-of-four – who has daughters Teja, 22, Tiani, 18, True, five and Jream, 12 months – explained how becoming a parent helped her to embrace her natural look.
She added: “The biggest influence in helping me love and appreciate my natural hair more has been becoming a mother.
“It was very important for me that my daughters have a more positive relationship with their hair and embrace their natural hair textures from an early age.”

NewJeans star Danielle’s passion for fashion began as a child

OHMYGOSSIP — NewJeans singer Danielle says her passion for fashion started when she was a child.
The K-pop star – who makes up one-fifth of the girl group alongside Minji, Hanni, Haerin, and Hyein – is known for her dynamic stage presence and trendsetting fashion sense and says it is something that dates back to when she was growing up.
Danielle – who has been recruited by both Burberry and Yves Saint Laurent this year – told WWD: “Ever since I was little, I’d have such a blast playing dress-ups, picking out cute outfits and even styling my toys! I remember going to my grandparents’ house and borrowing their high-fashion clothing pretending I was a princess or a rockstar!
“My first time being styled was so exciting and brought back all these happy memories! I just feel that with fashion, there is no limit, and you can become whoever you may wish!”
Meanwhile, Haerin has been an ambassador for Dior since April and praised the relationship that the group has with both fashion and music.
She said: “Each artist has their own unique character, I think they all influence each other in various ways.
“There is such a wide variety of fashion out there and seeing how artists can capture their personalities and characters through their styling is very interesting and impactful to the viewers.”

Linda Evangelista didn’t exercise until she was nearly 30 because of her ‘crazy metabolism’

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Evangelista didn’t have to start exercising until she was almost 30 because her “crazy” metabolism kept her catwalk ready.
The 58-year-old Canadian model began her career when she was 19 after being signed to Elite Model Management, moving to New York City for work.
Linda then went to Paris as her star began to shine, but quickly found she struggled to maintain her weight due to her fast metabolism burning through calories.
Speaking to Ruth Rogers on her ‘Ruthie’s Table 4’ podcast, the model opened up about her diet difficulties to The River Cafe restaurant owner
She said: “Back in the day, I could eat anything.”
Ruth then enquired about what sort of metabolism she had, to which Linda replied: “Crazy, crazy.”
Linda continued: “I think it started to slow down close to 30. I started working out when I was 27, 28, cos I was like, ‘Oh, things are a little different.’
“And back then if you overindulged for too long if you cut back on everything for three days, you would drop five pounds.
“Now, it is very easy to gain five pounds in a weekend.”
Linda emphasised that she was shocked to find her metabolism suddenly changed as she got older, and revealed the dietary tactics she would use to stay in shape.
She said: “I had to work on keeping the weight on. And then there became a period where I had to really watch and I started doing cleansers all the time, and I loved doing these cleansers, but I think they were very harmful to me.
“I would do like medicinal cleansers where it is like a powdered drink, or I would go to We Care once or twice a year for a week [Palm Springs].
“You just do liquids, it’s mostly waters with lemon and mint and teas and you get a glass of juice a day, and you get a very diluted, watered down vegetable once a day called a soup.”
Linda then revealed that she now allows herself to eat whatever she wants, as long as it is “the best” quality and doesn’t affect her weight.
She said: “If I’m going to eat pasta, that’s like an indulgence for me, cos I try and watch my weight and be healthy. I always have. If I’m going to eat pasta, it’s got to be great.
“If I’m going to eat a steak, I mean I eat everything, it can’t be a crappy steak. It has to be, like, the best steak.”

‘It’s like my Adam Sandler moments…’ Camila Cabello remembers fashion blunders

OHMYGOSSIP — Camila Cabello considers her fashion and beauty mistakes to be her “Adam Sandler moments”.
The 26-year-old star has been in the limelight since she became a member of Fifth Harmony on ‘The X Factor USA’ back in 2012, and she accepts she has made many very public fashion mishaps.
Those errors of judgment live on forever online, but Camila has learned to accept them comparing her embarrassing fashion faux pas to the comic actor’s box office bombs.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan, she said: “I have so many and they’re all documented annoyingly. When I didn’t care, I was like, ‘Guys, I just need to be a person. I’m going to pretend like I’m not in the public eye,’ but there are just so many pictures around. But you know what? It’s kind of funny; it’s like my Adam Sandler moments.”
Camila says those awkward style moments over the years have acted like an education, and her passion for fashion has never diminished.
She said: “Creative expression. Before, I just didn’t think about beauty, it wasn’t really an area that I played with in my life. Now, what I wear or playing with different makeup looks is so fun.
“It’s like you’re making something. I feel like I missed out on that when I was younger because I didn’t have anyone around me who was big on fashion or beauty, like my mom doesn’t really wear any makeup. So it’s been really fun to get into that.”
Camila had always been reluctant to change her trademark brunette locks but after taking the plunge and dying her hair she now wants to continue to experiment with new cuts.
She explained: “I think the first time I dyed my hair was maybe a year and a half ago now, and it’s like a sickness. I think, do I want to cut it? I would love to go blonde but would it ruin my hair?
“My hair varies depending on how I feel or what person or personality traits I want to embody. When I dyed my hair black, I was just ready for a little demon energy but before, it was a honey colour, so was very sweet.”

Marc Jacobs used ChatGPT to write collection notes for SS24 show ‘out of desperation’

OHMYGOSSIP — Marc Jacobs turned to ChatGPT “out of desperation” to write his SS24 show collection notes.
The 60-year-old fashion designer showcased his creative vision in his New York presentation earlier this year titled ‘Marc Jacobs: A striking fusion of masculine tailoring and feminine elegance’, though decided to give the responsibility for writing the notes to the AI.
In an interview with i-D, where the style icon was interviewed by ChatGPT, Marc revealed why he decided to entrust machine learning with his “artistic narrative”.
He said: “I think it was mostly out of desperation that we turned to ChatGPT. Typically Nick [Newbold] and I write the show notes during the hectic period while putting the show together.
“It’s usually very emotional for me, because it has more to do with feelings than descriptions, but I was at a loss for words and I really didn’t feel anything. I mean, I wasn’t feeling anything.
“So jokingly, although it had come up in past conversations, Nick said, ‘Why don’t we just let ChatGPT do it? We have nothing to say, let’s let ChatGPT write the notes.’”
The AI succinctly summed up his answer, and analysed his statement which left Marc gobsmacked.
He said: “This is terrifying. It’s also amazing, because reading it I feel almost like I’m in a session with my shrink, and while I struggle to put feelings into concise words, he has the ability to decipher what it is I mean and feedback to me what I’m saying in a clear way.
“And I feel like, with ChatGPT, it is the same result. It’s like I’ve been given back a very concise and interesting reaction to what I said.”
Although he was very impressed with the AI at his show and during the interview, Marc admitted he was worried for the future of the technology, and the potential consequences it could have for society.
He explained: “I listened to this podcast [Ex-Google Business Officer Mo Gawdat interviewed on The Diary of a CEO] and it explained how the speed at which this program advances is so terrifying; he said: This is not something that is going to happen. This is something that is happening’, and the speed in which it’s happening is … Well, it is unbelievable.
“I mean, it is believable because there’s evidence of it, and I don’t want to keep saying the word terrifying because maybe we can all work together and find the good and the interesting in this collaboration, man and machine … But I think after watching so many science fiction movies it does seem terrifying. Then again, all change is kind of scary, isn’t it?”

Sofia Richie Grainge reveals her SRG collection is delayed

OHMYGOSSIP — Sofia Richie Grainge’s fashion collection has been delayed.
The 25-year-old model – who is the daughter of music legend Lionel Richie – first announced she was working on her own fashion brand, SRG, earlier this year, with a planned Spring 2024 release. However, the influencer has announced she will be pushing its launch back until later in the year. During an interview with L’Officiel, Sofia explained: “I am a Virgo. I’m an absolute perfectionist, so I’m not releasing anything until I feel it’s perfect.”
The social media star also revealed that her “clothing obsession” stemmed from her ‘Dancing On The Ceiling’ hitmaker father’s love of fashion.
She explained: “My dad is truly the person who brought the clothing obsession into my life. He takes dressing very seriously, and he’s very thoughtful about everything he wears.”
Although she has a passion for fashion, Sofia does not see herself as a “style icon”, nor does she think anyone else does.
She said: “When I wear jeans and a T-shirt, I’m like, ‘I’m not anyone’s style icon right now; I’m just going to the grocery store.
I think when people think of me they just think of clothing, but I’m a big family person. I love my dogs, I love my friends, and I just want everyone to be happy. When I think of myself, that’s what I think of—but I’m flattered that everyone thinks of good clothes!”
Sofia – who is known for her ‘clean girl’ aesthetic when it comes to beauty – became a fashion and beauty influencer unintentionally, and it surprises her that she has been received so positively online.
She said: “I’ve never expected to get any positive feedback from social media; my happiness doesn’t depend on social media feedback, and I feel like I protected my mental health in that way throughout the years of being in the spotlight.
“It was shocking for me to see such positive feedback, and it really put a smile on my face. It made me feel like, ‘Wow, there are kind people out there.’”

Amelia Gray Hamlin confesses to stealing from her parents’ wardrobes

OHMYGOSSIP — Amelia Gray Hamlin swipes clothes from her parents’ wardrobes.
The 22-year-old model has confessed to stealing items from her mom Lisa Rinna and dad Harry Hamlin’s closets, including designer garments.
She told PEOPLE: “I steal (but put back) a bunch of my dad’s Calvin Klein white T-shirts and his Nike socks sometimes. He also has really comfy flannel pieces.
“From my mom, I mostly take the tighter, chicer things. I’ve definitely stolen my fair share of Versace.”
Amelia takes anything she “can get [her] hands on” when it comes to the former ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ star’s clothes.
She said: “I take whatever high-fashion things I can get my hands on from that woman’s closet, that’s for sure.”
Amelia likes to mix and match items from each of their wardrobes.
She explained: “There’s so many things in my dad and mom’s closets I can appreciate. I would never pick one closet [to borrow clothes from] for the day. I would have to style both of them together.”
Amelia then pointed out that her parents never remark on her outfits, despite the fact she has clearly been snooping around in their wardrobes.
She said: “What’s funny is that neither of them are ever going to comment on what I’m wearing or give me any style advice, because most of the time when I show up to their house I’m in such an insanely weird outfit. They just know that I’m going to do my own thing.”
When her sister Delilah Belle, 25, goes raiding their closets, she also gets to borrow Lisa’s shoes as she’s fortunate enough to be the same size.
Amelia said of her sibling: “She’s my mom’s shoe size, so she has had such a lucky time dipping her toes into not only my closet, but also my mom’s shoe collection, which I must say is pretty major.”

Meg Ryan’s stylist reveals secret behind new nostalgic hairdo

OHMYGOSSIP — Meg Ryan wasn’t trying to bring back her iconic 1990s hairdo with her latest bob.
The 61-year-old actress left fans in awe last month when she appeared on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ sported a new hairstyle which seemed to be a call back to her memorable look, which was affectionately nicknamed ‘The Meg’ at the time.
However, her hairstylist Sally Hershberger has admitted she didn’t expect the new look to give people such nostalgic feelings for her classic ‘do.
She told People: “I completely forgot about how big of a deal her hair was. It wasn’t premeditated.”
She clarified that the “effortless” bob is unique to her 2023 style, rather than a recreation of her ’90s look.
The pair first met in the early 1990s on a shoot for Harper’s Bazaar magazine, while ‘The Meg’ itself was conceived on the set of 1995 movie ‘French Kiss’ as the stylist was coming up with a disheveled look for her character Kate, which still resonates with women around the world.
She added: “I go to the airports and see a million Meg ladies walking around. So many women.”
Sally explained that her friend and frequent client “loves to laugh and have fun”, and she’s not one to stress when it comes to having to switch up her hair for a role.
She explained: “She’s so into the script and into working when you’re on a set with her. She’s not like, ‘Oh, I love my hair!’ She sometimes goes, ‘Oh, my hair looks amazing. Great.’”

Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel couture up for auction with 252 items

OHMYGOSSIP — Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel haute couture is going up for auction.
Real estate entrepreneur Mouna Ayoub is selling her collection of 252 items created by the late designer as a gesture for the “young generation” who didn’t get to know him before his death aged 85 in 2019.
She told Women’s Wear Daily: “For two reasons really: Number one, they don’t fit me anymore.
“Number two, I really want to give the young generation that didn’t know Karl and didn’t have the chance to own any haute couture pieces by Karl to own them and wear them and love them like I did — especially since most of them have never been worn.”
Maurice Auction will put the items up for sale on Monday (20.11.23) at the Pavillon Gabriel in Paris, and one evening coat – which was designed to resemble the Coromandel screens beloved by founder Gabrielle Chanel – is expected to go for between 150,000 and 200,000 euros.
Ayoub admitted she only wore the coat once when she went to the opera at Milan’s La Scala, while the same can be said for a 1996 gold lace dress, which she donned at the Bal de la Rose gala in Monte Carlo with Lagerfeld by her side.
Once she has sold the 252 Chanel pieces, she will still own around 2,500 haute couture items, while she has orders in place for Fendi, Dior, Schiaparelli and Chanel.
She added: “I’m very particular and a little crazy in that and nobody understands it.
“If I was given the possibility to buy a piece of jewelry for 200,000 euros and a dress for the same price, I always go for the dress.
“Because I like to encourage the high fashion industry. I’m not very much for fast fashion. I’m actually opposed to it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaia Gerber would like to recreate her mother’s Pepsi commercial ad outfit.
The 22-year-old star is the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber and when asked which of her mother’s outfits she would like to wear herself one day, she admitted there are “so many” looks to choose from but would like to do a “new version” of the famous white vest and jeans combination seen in the 1992 soft drink commercial.
She told People: “There’s so many that I love and that I think are so iconic. The red Oscars dress I’ve always thought was just so beautiful. But it’s like some things are just so good you don’t even want to touch them.
And I think some of those moments I’m just like, ‘Leave them there,’ you know? I definitely think the Pepsi thing would be fun But if they’re going to do her — it has to be the iconic commercial, but a new version of that.”

Lucy Boynton could only ‘enjoy’ makeup once she started to see it as a form of self-expression

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Boynton felt able to “enjoy” makeup more once she started to use it to express herself.
The 29-year-old actress initially felt a “pressure” to get things right with her looks when growing up but explained that now, she likes to think of herself as a “blank canvas” and ultimately sees the experimentation of it all as an “art form”.
She told Harper’s Bazaar: “I started to enjoy it so much more when I realised it could be a form of self-expression or experimentation because I think so often – especially growing up – there’s a pressure to get it right.
“As soon as you realise that it’s this open opportunity and that you are a blank canvas to decorate and express how you please, you realise it’s a kind of art form; there is no right and wrong. Then it’s just fun and free and unleashed.”
However, ‘The Pale Blue Eye’ star went on to add that she has suffered from “bad skin” after years of working on film sets and while she has had to learn to become “less precious” about her appearance, still is not ready to go completely makeup free.
She said: “I think it’s always people with perfect complexions that are able to champion the freedom of no-make-up looks. I really struggled with my skin growing up and recently it’s changed again in the last few years while filming – when I’m doing 14-hour days in really heavy make-up and under heavy lights my skin reacts to that and just breaks out.
“For a while, I felt too self-conscious and shy about going out with no make-up on.
“But when my skin got really bad, I was forced to become less precious about my appearance and people’s perception of it because it was out of my control. Funnily enough, since then I’ve got much more confident about it. But it’s a developing relationship. I’d really love to get to a point where I don’t just have to have what I would deem ‘good skin’ to be able to go make-up free.”

2024 Met Gala theme unveiled!

OHMYGOSSIP — The theme for the 2024 Met Gala has been unveiled as ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’.
After this year’s spectacular Karl Lagerfeld tribute theme, the annual fundraising gala, which is held annually in benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City, will return with a brand-new theme on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Next year’s exhibit will feature and be inspired by 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, including designs by Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Givenchy, spanning 400 years of fashion.
Max Hollein, the Met’s Marina Kellen French director and CEO, told Vogue: “This innovative show will push the boundaries of our imagination and invite us to experience many facets of a work, to learn more about its history, and, ultimately, to gain a deeper appreciation of its beauty.”
According to the fashion bible, 50 items are so fragile they cannot be worn again, including an Elizabethan bodice and a silk satin ball gown by Charles Frederick Worth from 1877.
The Met is also getting high-tech by using a glass illusion technique to reflect a ghostly figure onstage.
As well as AI and animation, CGI will be used to “weave a contextual fabric of understanding around each piece.”
Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, said: “Fashion is one of the most emotional artistic forms because of its connection to the body.
“It is imbued with memory and emotions, and we relate to it very much via our senses. One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.”
Attendees of the prestigious bash will explore three areas: land, sea, and sky.
Sustainability and the environment will be at the heart of the exhibit.
The zones will “symbolise the natural materials used within it to create garments.”
Bolton added: “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.”
