Emilia Clarke's 'lovely' dress

OHMYGOSSIP — Emilia Clarke chose her Emmys dress simply because “it fits and it’s lovely”.
The ‘Game of Thrones’ star donned a pink, sparkly Atelier Versace evening gown for the ceremony on Sunday (18.09.16) and found it easy to settle on the frock because everyone she showed it to approved of it.
Discussing her dress, she said: “[I chose it] because it fits and it’s lovely.” She continued, “I put it on and everyone was like, ‘Yeah!’ So, it was like, ‘OK! I’ll do that one!’ ”
Despite looking forward to celebrating ‘GoT’s impressive haul of 12 Emmy Awards, Emilia had to be up early to fly to Belfast for filming on Monday (19.09.16).
And the 29-year-old actress – who plays Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen on the fantasy drama series – admitted she wouldn’t be looking anywhere near as polished on the plane as she did on the red carpet.
She said: “Most of the time I do try and have like some [style]- and then you just get changed into your pyjamas on the plane, but tomorrow I don’t hold much hope.”
The ‘Me Before You’ actress also warned young fans not to think the glamorous images of celebrities are easily obtainable.
She told People magazine: “Never look at pictures of famous people and think that it’s how we get out of bed, because it ain’t. There’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears that goes into the life.”

Victoria Beckham thinks covering up takes confidence

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Beckham is confident enough to “cover up” these days.
The 42-year-old fashion designer admits her wardrobe has grown more modest as she’s got older because she no longer “feels the need” to flaunt her slender frame.
She said: “As I’ve got older and gained in confidence, I don’t feel the need to go out and show off how tiny my waist is, I’ve loosened up, I wear a lot more separates and suits – a lot more clothes!
“I think the older you get, the more accepting you are of yourself and your body shape. You have to be quite confident to cover up.
“But now people are more accepting of me, so I can push it, fashion-wise.”
And Victoria – who has children Brooklyn, 17, Romeo, 14, Cruz, 11, and Harper, five, with husband David Beckham – thinks it is much “sexier” to cover up and leave “a little bit” to the imagination.
She told Britain’s Grazia magazine: “Very rarely do I go out in anything that is revealing – I used to – and that has nothing to do with the fact I’m older, it just feels more relevant.
“It feels like a newer, fresher take on what might be considered sexy.
“I think sexy comes from within. I think sexy is the way you conduct yourself.
“I think you have to feel sexy to look sexy. And feel confident to look confident – I just wish there was another word, other than sexy, to describe that confidence and empowerment you feel.”

Liv Tyler not worried about being fashionable

OHMYGOSSIP — Liv Tyler didn’t worry about what was fashionable when creating her collection for Belstaff.
The ‘Leftovers’ actress – who has 11-year-old son Milo from her marriage to Royston Langdon, and kids Sailor, 16 months, and Lula, seven weeks, with fiance Dave Gardner – was very excited to team up with the brand’s creative director for her second capsule collection and only worried about things that she would personally want to wear, rather than what was on trend.
She said: “It really was the most exciting thing. I asked if I could do the capsule collection, but I didn’t know where to begin as I was just busy being a mom and acting and doing all the other millions of things, but it came along at the perfect time.
“I tried not to overthink it or feel pressured to do something, or think about what’s in fashion, what’s not in fashion. I was excited to create pieces that I love that I want to wear in my wardrobe.”
And the 39-year-old star relished the chance to delve into Belstaff’s archive for inspiration.
She told Vogue.co.uk: “I’m always drawn to classic things that last and stand the test of time. Things that aren’t always the trendiest or things that are in fashion at the time.
“With a brand like Belstaff I was able to go into the archive. I get ideas in my head from a lot of films and old photographs and I want to recreate those things so this was great. There’s a polka-dot high-waisted top and bottom look that was something I always wanted to make. I showed it to Delphine as an inspiration – not thinking I could use it as it wasn’t very Belstaff, but she was on board!”
Among the pieces in the collection are a pair of studded flats, and Liv admitted she much prefers them to high heels because she wants to feel like she can “run away” if she needs to.
She explained: “I’m very much a flat girl. I love to wear heels, they’re beautiful, but I love feeling like I can run away from a situation at any given time. For sure, whoever invented high heels was a man, because they don’t know what it’s like to walk around on a point. I like to feel grounded.”

Burberry show seasonless collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Burberry’s new unisex “seasonless” collection has gone on sale in over 100 countries.
The British fashion house – the first to offer see now, buy now, in 2010 – shunned separate menswear and womenswear presentations in favour of one show in London on Monday (19.09.16) evening and the runway items were made instantly available in their Regent Street store and online.
While designer Christopher Bailey insists the company don’t have “all the answers”, he admitted the new streamlined show, which featured both male and female models sporting similar looks, made for a much calmer way of working.
He said: “We thought long and hard before doing this.
“We’re not saying we have all the answers. This is definitely trial and error and it’s key that we feel as a company we can do that. But if anything, this new way of working freed up the design team.
“It was actually a much calmer season because we planned it so much in advance, which gave us more time to unpack the story-telling and ensure our customers feel the same things in store as we did when we were designing it.”
The designer took inspiration from Virginia Woolf’s novel ‘Orlando’ – a copy of which was gifted to everyone at the show, including Cara Delevingne, Lily James, Alexa Chung, Nicholas Hoult and Jenna Coleman – and its themes of timelessness and gender fluidity.
He said: “What I love about Orlando is that nothing is specific to one time or one gender.
“It is a book about emotion and beauty, which is what I feel fashion is about.”
The models were deliberately made up so there was no “true divide” between genders.
Burberry make-up artist consultant Wendy Rowe said: “There’s no true divide between masculine and feminine this time, with the girls that could pass as boys, and boys so beautiful, they could possibly be girls.
“Aside from a bit more eye [contour], it’s the same make-up used on the girls and the boys. We’re really blurring the lines.”

Kerry Washington honoured with Emmy dress

OHMYGOSSIP — Kerry Washington was “really honoured” to have Brandon Maxwell design her Emmy Awards dress.
The ‘Scandal’ actress – who is expecting her second child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha – showed off her growing baby bump in the strapless gown, which featured two cutouts under the bust and a floor-skimming cape, on the red carpet on Sunday (18.09.16) and is a huge fan of the designer’s work.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “This dress was made for me, obviously, I didn’t go into a mall to buy this with a perfect bump.
“Brandon Maxwell made this dress for me. I’m just a fan of his. I love what he’s done with Gaga through the years and with the First Lady recently, so I’m really honoured he made this dress.”
Kerry – who also has two-year-old daughter Isabelle with her spouse – teamed her elegant gown with loose messy curls boosted with clip-in hair extensions, and her long-term hair stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew took inspiration from the actress’ baby bump when creating her “modern and fresh” do.
She told Us Weekly: “From the moment I saw Kerry’s Brandon Maxwell dress, I felt the it was minimal yet edgy with the peek-a-boo cutouts.
“My inspiration was her baby bump. I still wanted to keep her look modern and fresh even though she’s expecting. I really wanted the hair to stand out — that’s why I styled it with a lot of texture but still show her face with a middle part.”
The 39-year-old actress wasn’t nominated for an award at this year’s ceremony, but she joined her ‘Scandal’ co-star Tony Goldwyn on stage at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theatre to present the awards for Outstanding Writing in a Limited Series or Movie, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

Sophie Turner is simple and elegant in Valentino

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Turner likes to look “simple and elegant” on the red carpet.
The 20-year-old actress donned a semi-sheer black lace Valentino gown with a flowing skirt, cinched waist and thin straps for the Emmy Awards on Sunday (18.09.16) and her stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray felt it was important to keep her look “no fuss”.
She said: “Sophie is 20, so she’s very young, so we wanted to put her in something that would frame her beauty, something very pared down and elegant, sort of no fuss. We went with a really simple, elegant black Valentino gown.
“Sophie really loves Mugler, Ralph Lauren, Balmain, simple clean vibes, nothing frou frou, really simple silhouettes — she goes for rich and elegant.”
Sophie also opted for a minimal make-up look.
Rebecca added: “She never likes a hard line on her face, just soft, fresh and dewy makeup. We’ve been exchanging photos from the New York runways that have that look.”
While her dress and make-up may have been kept simple, the ‘Game of Thrones’ star was happy to pile on the accessories.
Rebecca told HarpersBazaar.com: “She’s a bit of a magpie, she loves jewellery, she loves stacked jewellery and to play with it. We worked with Forevermark, she chose stacked rings and a white diamond necklace, which made sense with the Valentino vibe.
“You can accessorise a simple dress more, which is more fun– we love to play around with the accessories.”
Despite standing a lofty 5″9′, Sophie is happy to boost her height further with high heels.
Her stylist said: “She’s totally ’90s Amazonian supermodel, she loves to play up her height, so she loves a high heel.”

David Beckham's English look

OHMYGOSSIP — David Beckham’s sense of style is “very English”.
The 41-year-old retired soccer star – who is married to fashion designer Victoria Beckham – is backing Kent & Curwen and jumped at the chance to be a part of the revitalised brand because he thinks their new direction, overseen by designer Daniel Kearns, echoes his own signature sartorial look perfectly.
He said: “I consider myself very English, I’m proud of being English and this a brand that represents British heritage.
“I’m not a designer – I leave that to Daniel and my wife – but this is a project I’m very proud of
“I’m a partner in the business but Daniel understands how I like to look and how I like to dress, and how men want to dress in general.
“People know I’m very English in the way I like to dress, and that’s what we wanted to bring to this.”
David has seen his style change as he has gotten older and though he insists he has no fashion regrets, he admits some of his previous choices – such as matching leather outfits with his spouse and sporting a sarong – were very “bold” and he is unsure why he opted for them.
He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “My style has evolved. I’m 41 years old now, so you start to dress in a different way as you grow older.
“Over the years, I’ve definitely worn pieces that I look back at now and think ‘why did you wear that? How did you wear that? Wow, that was bold’. But there’s nothing I regret. That’s what makes fashion great.”

Tatiana Maslany clueless about fashion

OHMYGOSSIP — Tatiana Maslany doesn’t know “anything” about fashion.
The ‘Orphan Black’ actress was thankful to have stylist Micaela Erlanger assist with her outfit for the Emmy Awards because she gave her the confidence to carry off the stunning red Alexander Wang v-neck dress she donned for the ceremony on Sunday (18.09.16).
Tatiana – who scooped the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series award – said: “For me, the fashion world is so not my thing and I don’t know anything about it, but I know that what [Micaela] does really helps highlight what is unique about her clients.
“And that feels good, so you can feel confident walking into really bizarre situations.”
Micaela also styled Michelle Dockery for the ceremony and was thankful both her clients had a lot of input into their looks.
She told Vanity Fair: “It’s always a conversation with clients. Tatiana and I send each other pictures and there’s a lot of references, and Michelle and I talk about a feel or a mood or a vibe.
“My clients are incredibly communicative – they’re bringing ideas and I’m bringing ideas – it’s very much a collaboration.”
And the stylist – who won acclaim for her work with Lupita Nyong’o during her Oscar campaign – was excited to have both actresses wear very different looks to their usual red carpet wear.
Speaking before the ceremony, she said: “Michelle over the years has worn everything from custom Prada to Rosie Assoulin’s debut red-carpet moment. We certainly play, and I love that.
“Last year, I put Tatiana in a couture white tuxedo from Bouchra Jarrar, who’s now creative director of Lanvin. This year, she’s going to be in something completely different. There is real variety.”

Taraji P Henson is America's sunshine at Emmys

OHMYGOSSIP — Taraji P. Henson was “America’s sunshine” at the Emmy Awards on Sunday (18.09.16).
The ‘Empire’ actress – who lost out to Tatiana Maslany for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series prize – donned a custom yellow Vera Wang dress because she and her stylist Jason Bolden wanted her to look like “superstar” in an “effortless” way.
Jason said of her outfit: “She is America’s sunshine tonight in a custom yellow, minimal, and sexy yet elegant custom Vera Wang dress.
“The bodice is fit to perfection, and the dress hits the floor with two thigh high modern slits on the side.
“We want to show you what a superstar looks like in an effortless way. I get so excited just thinking about it because it’s a stunning sunshine yellow silk crepe dress that is altered to perfection.
“The colour is show stopping, and it’s also the first carpet of award season, so we wanted to start off with something bright and hold onto the end of summer a little bit.”
As well as donning a lot of diamonds to accessorise the dress, Taraji also set the gown off with a monogrammed clutch bag.
Jason told Billboard: “For accessories we went with a pair of yellow gold diamond marquis-cut stud earrings, a yellow gold braided cuff with marquis-cut diamonds set throughout, two art deco styled yellow tennis bracelets and a rose-cut diamond ring, all by all by Lorraine Schwartz.
“She’s also wearing a pair of yellow gold Jimmy Choo sandals with a single strap across the ankle and toe along with an Edie Parker signature monogram clutch with her initials ‘T.P.H.'”
For Jason and Taraji, the 46-year-old actress’ love of house music is always an influence on her wardrobe.
He said: “We always want to go for this quintessential, smart, chic actress. We always add an ounce or that touch of classic edge and rock, who she is to her core and funk if you will.
“She is one of those girls who loves house music, and that’s a piece of what we try to drop in. So no matter what you will always see a piece of that happen, from the fabric we use, to the length of that dress, to the silhouette — it all plays a lot into it.”

Christopher Kane thinks people copy him

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Kane believes other designers regularly copy his work.
The Scottish designer admits there are times he hasn’t explored all his ideas to their fullest potential, prompting others to expand the aesthetic to great success, so now he pushes things as far as he can to avoid his creations being “stolen”.
He said: “In the past I’ve walked away from ideas and other people have stolen them so now I’m like, ‘Let’s do them all’.
“I didn’t work my arse off with Tammy (sister and co-creative director) for 20 years for someone to just run with it and make millions.
“I’m not bitter, just honest.”
And Christopher also bemoaned the lack of creativity in the fashion industry these days, admitting he longs for the days when the likes of John Galliano and Alexander McQueen sent “spellbinding” creations down the runway.
He told the Evening Standard newspaper: “Everything is just looking the same. What happened to real hard work? People are lazy. Or they can’t be bothered.
“It was spellbinding [in the old days].
“Nowadays, it seems like creativity is getting slapped in the face.”
The 34-year-old designer wants his own creations to appeal to as many people as possible.
He said: “I’m not a snob. I want the First Lady to wear my clothes but I want a Page 3 girl to wear them, too…
“I don’t want to be exclusive, I want to be inclusive. I want the 60 year old who buys Oscar de la Renta to shop with us, just as I want a young girl to buy a T-shirt or a lipstick.”
However, he is unimpressed by certain fashion bloggers and the street-style phenomenon.
He said: “It puts me off clothes sometimes. I don’t want to look like a Christmas tree.”

Ruth Wilson wants to wear big gowns

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruth Wilson wishes she could wear “big gowns”.
The ‘Affair’ actress would love to done a spectacular dress for a red carpet events, but doesn’t think they look right on her petite frame.
She said: “There are certain things I would love to rock on the red carpet, which I probably can’t.
“Like I love big gowns, these massive outfits, but I drown in too much material so I can’t really wear them. You have to be tall and long enough to wear one of those big model-type outfits.”
While some stars don’t enjoy dressing up for the red carpet, the 34-year-old actress embraces the chance to show off something spectacular.
She told People Style: “It’s enjoyable to wear these outfits, and you get the opportunity to wear some brilliant clothes.”
And Ruth admits she is more “brave” with her ensembles than she used to be, having gone through a “boring” phase.
Discussing how her style has changed, she said: “Maybe I’ve been more brave. When I first started I was wearing very different outfits and some things that were really fun, and then I went through a bit of a boring phase, and now I want to get back to having a bit of fun with it.”
But the ‘I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House’ actress hasn’t always looked polished on the red carpet, and is still haunted by an “awful” pink high street dress she wore to the Moet Mirage party at the Opera Holland Park in London nine years ago.
She admitted: “There’s a photo that exists somewhere of me in this awful bright pink dress that I bought from somewhere like Zara or H&M or something and I was wearing a black beret with it. I look sort of bizarre. I look like a school girl from Mars.”

David Beckham shoots ad with Kevin Hart

OHMYGOSSIP — David Beckham and Kevin Hart have reunited for a new H&M campaign.
The retired soccer star teamed with the ‘Get Hard’ star for an advertisement for his H&M Modern Essentials line last year, in which the diminutive actor was shadowing him to play him in the biopic ‘I, Beckham’.
And in the new advert, the pair take the joke further, with a teaser for the commercial showing David and Kevin – dressed identically – out on the road heading to Las Vegas in order to stage ‘I, Beckham: The Musical’.
Kevin is extremely enthusiastic about the production, but his pal doesn’t seem too convinced.
Their trip takes a turn for the worse when they are stopped by police, and then lose their way.
David said: “I loved shooting the first campaign with Kevin for H&M so much that we just had to do a sequel.
“This time we’ve pushed the story even further. I hope everyone likes it — we certainly enjoyed filming it.”
And Kevin joked the clip was proof he is the hunky sportsman’s own style icon.
He said: “It’s great to have the opportunity once more to show the world what everyone really knows, that I am the true inspiration for David Beckham’s style. He copies everything from me.”
H&M bosses are delighted with how “sharp” the two men look in the clip, which features them in block stripe knit sweaters, and a
zip-up flying jacket with a faux fur collar.
Andreas Löwenstam, H&M head of menswear design said: “David and Kevin look so sharp in the campaign.
“Modern Essentials is a collection for men who have great personal style, no matter where they find themselves.
“The flying jacket and striped jumper are new wardrobe essentials for men all round the world.”

Theresa May stages fashion reception

OHMYGOSSIP — British Prime Minister Theresa May staged a reception for the UK fashion industry on Thursday (15.09.16) evening.
The 59-year-old politician welcomed fashion editors, retailers, designers including Dame Vivienne Westwood – who wore a ‘Theresa Talk Vivienne’ logo t-shirt – Christopher Bailey and Mary Katrantzou, as well as, for the first time, industry apprentices to 10 Downing Street for the prestigious event, which took place the night before London Fashion Week kicks off.
In a speech, Mrs. May pledged to do “everything” to help people utilise their talents within the fashion industry.
She said: “British fashion is of huge importance to our country, contributing £28bn to the UK economy and supporting nearly 900,000 jobs.
“The Government I lead will do everything we can, including providing the right investment in training and skills, to help everyone, whatever people’s backgrounds, to go as far as their talents can take them.
“From our home grown start-ups to international fashion houses – every business in the industry will play a major role in ensuring we make a success of Brexit.
“By taking advantage of the opportunities that leaving the EU gives us and playing to our strengths as a great trading nation – we can build a build a fairer economy that works for all, not just the privileged few.”
British Fashion Council (BFC) Chairman and the evening’s co-host Dame Natalie Massenet said the celebratory event reaffirmed “the message that Britain, and London, is very much open for business.”
Mrs. May’s reception continues the tradition set by former Prime Ministers’ wives Sarah Brown and Samantha Cameron in hosting a fashion week event, and Caroline Rush, the British Fashion Council’s Chief Executive, praised her as a “great advocate” of British fashion, particularly for extending the invitation to apprentices.
She added to the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “Her dedication to young talent – including welcoming fashion apprentices, scholarship winners and graduate trainees to Number 10 – is a great signal that she is interested in the whole of the industry from young people to global brands.”
To welcome her guests from the fashion world, the PM opted for a £120 cinched-waist shirt from Palmer//Harding’s collaboration with John Lewis, teamed with black Amanda Wakeley trousers and her beloved lip-printed shoes by Russell and Bromley.

Marc Jacobs used 12,500 dreadlocks in show

OHMYGOSSIP — Marc Jacobs’ New York Fashion Week show used 12,500 hand-dyed woolen dreadlocks.
The designer sent his models, including Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner, down the runway on Thursday (15.09.16) sporting colourful synthetic locs in around 200-300 different colours, and each one had been carefully hand-dyed and spun by mother-and-daughter team Dreadlocks by Jena.
Hairstylist Guido Palau said: “Marc first started talking about this at the end of July. He’s really inspired by Lana Wachowski’s hair that we used [in the fall ad campaign].
“She’s got these beautiful, coloured wool hair extensions. Then we had to find out where to get the hair from, so we looked on the internet and Jena was down in Florida making wool-dyed hair!”
Each of the models took around 90 minutes to complete, leading to worries about getting everyone ready on time.
However, Guido said of Jena: “She stepped up to it, it was great.”
Despite criticisms of cultural appropriation, the hairdresser doesn’t think they are right and insisted Rasta culture was “not at all” an influence.
He told People Style: “I don’t really think about that. I take inspiration from every culture. Style comes from clashing things. It’s always been there — if you’re creative, if you make food, music, and fashion, whatever, you’re inspired by everything.”
Instead, as well as filmmaker Wachowski, he also sought inspiration from Boy George, rave culture and the internet.
He added “What’s fun for me about it is to do something that’s so fun to look at — when you see it with the clothes, they become very, very tall. They almost look like they’ve stepped out of a computer. They look like illustrations at some point, when you see them dressed. And those Harajuku girls, I love the way they are so extreme and it’s such a total look and they do it so well.”
