Ayo Edebiri used clothes to ‘hide’ herself

OHMYGOSSIP — Ayo Edebiri used to use clothes to “hide”.
The ‘Bear’ actress is relishing being able to be a “chameleon” with fashion now as she has so many different opportunities to dress up, whereas in her early stand-up comedy days, she didn’t want to have any focus on her appearance.
She told Sunday Times Style magazine: “For a while, as a comedian, I really wanted to hide. It was a lot of big shirts and big pants. I didn’t want anybody to imagine my body.
“Now I have more opportunities to wear clothes so I can be a bit of a chameleon. I can give people a different image when they see me casually versus when they see me on the red carpet versus when they see me as a character.”
Ayo is currently working with stylist Danielle Goldberg – who also works with the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Greta Lee – and has taken on some important sartorial advice from her.
She explained: “[She reminds me clothes] are straight up a weapon in your arsenal, a tool for showing up and being like, I’m a woman”.
The 28-year-old actress found herself on multiple best-dressed lists thanks to the red Prada gown she wore to the Golden Globe Awards earlier this month and was very happy with her look.
She said: “It was very classic but modern and fun — it felt like me.”
Meanwhile, after two seasons playing sous chef Sydney in ‘The Bear’, Ayo admitted everyone always wants to hear her opinions about her food when she dines out.
She admitted: “Sometimes I’m like, ‘Please can I just eat?’ ”
And the actress also regularly gets quizzed on her own prowess in the kitchen.
Asked how many times she’s been asked if she can cook, she replied: “Many, and I’ll continue to be asked this.”

Top fashion boss Harris Reed, 26, always knew he wanted to be in the industry

OHMYGOSSIP — Harris Reed always knew he wanted to be in the fashion industry.
The 27-year-old designer was appointed the creative director of French fashion house Nina Ricci in September 2022 and has been involved with the high-profile event of the Met Gala but admitted he always assumed those milestones would come later in life.
He told the BBC: “I thought I would do the Met Gala when I was in my 50s, but I did it at 25. I thought I’d be a creative director in my 50s or 60s, but I did that at 26. So, I’ve kind of loved to just completely push back on my own expectations. I knew I wanted to be in this industry since I came out of the womb. I decided early on that I’m going to do anything and everything.”
The Oscar-winning designer – who has created looks for pop superstars Beyoncé and Harry Styles and is close friends with former ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ star Jordyn Woods – recalled being “nervous” when he was asked to work with global singing sensation Adele but called the ‘Someone Like You’ songstress “extraordinary” for being willing to wear pieces from his new jewellery line.
He said: “When I got the call about dressing Adele, I thought of the soulful music and the glamorous images of her, and I was worried she might be a diva. When I met her, she was so truly the warmest, giggliest, most real human being.
“During fittings she was humming her music, and I had just launched my own jewellery line, so I was nervous to ask her to wear it, but she poured it all over her ears and fingers. Extraordinary!”

Elle Macpherson reveals how she changed her diet to benefit her skin

OHMYGOSSIP — Elle Macpherson has taken on a healthy diet to benefit her hair and skin.
The 59-year-old supermodel has turned to multivitamins, minerals and supplements whilst also making sure her menu is full of “greens” and other natural foods to benefit both her internal health and the way she looks.
She told Harper’s Bazaar: “After getting dressed I have my greens – The Super Elixir, which combines 50 multivitamins and minerals, adaptogens, probiotics and prebiotics. Then from 10am I have a snack of something light but nourishing, like a chia pudding, coconut yogurt or fruit with sprouted almond butter. Then I take supplements for whatever I’m working on: good hair or skin, or immunity, for example.
“At around 2pm I often have a big smoothie with everything I can find to put in it, like frozen banana, protein, coconut milk, chia seeds, flax, toka. And then I have my major meal around 4pm. I’m plant-based and follow an Ayurvedic type of diet. I do this not for any weight control, but because I love to be easy on my digestive system and I want the nutrients I consume to be readily available. So, I might have a big brown-rice bowl with avocado and sprouts and sunflower seeds, a curry, pho or sushi. I try to support regenerative farmers and choose things that are organic – the quality of the food that I have directly affects the way I feel.”
Away from the catwalk, Elle has created wellness company WelleCo and explained that because of the “high-quality” ingredients her company uses in their product, she is now feeling “truly nourished” both internally and externally.
She said: “Investing in WelleCo! And not just for my health, because there’s a purpose to it that’s greater than my own wellbeing – I want other people to experience the life-changing understandings that I came into 10 years ago.
“When we are truly nourished from within with high-quality ingredients, we not only have better digestion, better sleep, better hair and better skin; we become more vibrant in our life and therefore more beautiful – because we are inspired, courageous, confident and energetic. When we bring that into the world, the world becomes a better place.

Emily Ratajkowski explains why she is ‘not scared’ of using Botox

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Ratajkowski is “not scared” of using Botox.
The 32-year-old supermodel has used the cosmetic injectable in the past in an attempt to defy ageing and joked that she can still “move [her] face” but is not shy about trying what is out there when it comes to certain procedures to maintain her looks.
She told Glamour UK: “I get Botox. My face still moves, which I am quite proud of, but I’m not scared to use what’s out there.”
The catwalk star studied fashion at UCLA before dropping out to pursue modelling full-time but admitted that she had no specific ambition to be famous in the first place and simply thought she was following in the footsteps of her parents, both of whom work in creative industries.
She said: “I didn’t want to be famous. I had no plans. I wasn’t thinking about a career, I was thinking about saving money. But the saving money was to be able to do what I actually wanted to do, which was make things, basically. I saw my parents, they are both creatives, but they had day jobs, so that was sort of how I saw life working.
Despite being on the cover of several men’s magazines, Emily – who has two-year-old son Sylvester with ex-parter Sebastian Bear-McClard – also insisted that she refuses to be the object of a “male gaze” and in recent years she has learned to “care a whole lot less” what people think about her.
She said: ” In the past two years, how I feel is I just care a whole lot less what people think. So, if I am in a certain type of mood where I want to post something or wear something that I could be judged for because it’s, quote-unquote ‘desperate’, I’m a little bit like, ‘Well, that’s where I’m at’. I’ve learned to prioritise my own happiness, probably because of my son. I feel I have bigger fish to fry than caring about the politics of whether or not I’m appealing to the male gaze in a given moment.”

Suki Waterhouse’s Emmy dress ‘needed to be redesigned’

OHMYGOSSIP — Suki Waterhouse had her Emmy dress redesigned to fit her growing baby bump.
The 32-year-old star is expecting her first child with Robert Pattinson, and Suki has revealed that designers had to “really redesign the dress” to flatter her current figure.
Suki – who wore a red, backless Valentino gown to the awards show in Los Angeles – told E! News: “I was really excited about this look. I tried it on a couple months ago but … the fitting was just me holding it to my body.
“So, they had to really take it apart and had to redesign this dress to make it fit the bump. But it does and I’m really happy that it worked.”
Suki announced her pregnancy back in November, when she performed at the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico.
The singer surprised her fans by sharing the news with them.
Suki – who was wearing a glittery pink mini-dress and a feathery coat at the time – said: “I’m extra sparkly today because I thought it might distract you from something else that’s going on.”
The actress then jokingly added: “I’m not sure if it’s working!”
Suki and Robert have been together for more than five years, and an insider previously revealed that the loved-up couple felt “ready for a child”.
Suki also feels “excited” by the challenge of motherhood.
The source told PEOPLE: “They are ready for a child, and looking forward to becoming parents. Even though they are both professionals who work a great deal, this is something they want.
“They know their lives will change, and they are excited.”

I won’t miss the Top Chef food, says Padma Lakshmi

OHMYGOSSIP — Padma Lakshmi won’t miss eating the food on ‘Top Chef’.
The 53-year-old model hosted the TV show from 2006 until 2023, and although she enjoyed the food, Padma admitted that it was still a “big, big, big issue” for her.
Asked if she missed eating the food, Padma told PEOPLE: “No, I don’t. I mean, the food is great but when you have to eat that much of it, it’s really hard. So I’m happy not to have … that was a big, big, big issue, yeah.”
Padma also revealed that she’ll miss her ‘Top Chef’ colleagues.
The model likened the show’s crew to a “family”.
She said: “I miss my friends. I miss the whole crew – they’re like family to me.”
Last year, Padma outlined her reasons for quitting the show after 17 years.
The runway star – who also hosts ‘Taste the Nation’, a travel and food show – told the ‘Awards Circuit’ podcast: “I had been on location for eight months out of the year. And when I wasn’t on location, I was in pre- and post-production for both my shows. And I was looking at edits of one show while on the set of another show. It was just exhausting and untenable for me to continue that way.”
Padma also admitted that her busy schedule was harming her personal life.
She shared: “I haven’t had a relationship in a long time either, because I’m always working. I don’t know when I think I was going to meet anybody. I’m surrounded by people I either employ or employ me, and neither of those [groups of] people are appropriate [for a romantic relationship].”

I’ve got a big mouth, says Beverly Johnson

OHMYGOSSIP — Beverly Johnson thinks she has a “big mouth”.
The 71-year-old star – who became the first black model to appear on the cover of American Vogue in 1974 – insists that she’ll never remain silent about her successes or her failures.
Beverly told Vogue: “My scars and my mistakes and my learning process can be exposed in a way that’s not unapologetic, but also not sensationalised – because I’m too old to be sensationalised.
“This is my story, it’s totally true – as my daughter would say, a little bit too true. And as my brothers and sisters say, ‘Can’t you keep anything to yourself?’”
Beverly has learned a huge amount about herself through the course of her career.
And now, the model is simply “happy to be alive” at the age of 71.
She said: “My biggest lessons are in my huge mistakes. I’m happy to be alive; a lot of people didn’t make it.”
Beverly recently revealed that she got hooked on cocaine during the 1970s, when she was attempting to slim down by eating two eggs and a bowl of ramen a week.
The model explained that she was encouraged by people within the fashion industry to look “chiselled to the bone”.
Speaking to the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column, Beverly shared: “We were led to believe that cocaine was not addictive. We didn’t know cocaine was addictive. Everyone used drugs back in the day but that particular drug for models was used because we did not eat.
“I remember eating two eggs and a bowl of brown rice a week. I would be shaking in a cab, and I would say pull over because I have to get a bag of M and Ms.
“I would just stop and get the shakes. We did not eat, and every time you came to work they would say, ‘Yes! Chisel to the bone girl. Yes,’ like congratulating you. Nobody really told you the truth.”

Anthony Anderson paid homage to TV history with Emmy wardrobe

OHMYGOSSIP — Anthony Anderson wanted to “honour television history” with his Emmy Awards wardrobe.
The ‘Black-ish’ actor had six separate looks planned for his hosting job at Monday’s (15.01.24) ceremony, and his stylist Courtney Mays explained he was keen to offer a “nod” to classic looks over the years because of it being the 75th anniversary of the ceremony, as well as references to it being Martin Luther King Jr. day.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Courtney told The Hollywood Reporter of Anthony’s red carpet look, a tailored floral embroidery jacket from Etro: “[Etro is] a beautiful, classic brand that’s very aligned with Anthony, because it also has a bit of flash and flair to it.
“Once we get into the show, that’s when his look will become a bit more of a nod to the classic black tuxedo.”
Black tuxedos from Canali, Brunello Cucinelli and Gucci were planned to be the main looks inside Los Angeles’ Peacock Theatre.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Courtney added: “We may also add a cummerbund, because it’s a bit of a nod to the classic style of the 1950s or 1960s.
“We’re also doing bow ties, thinking about Dr. King and wanting to represent him visually in a way through Anthony’s wardrobe. Because it’s the 75th anniversary of the Emmys, it’s also a bit about honouring television history.”
Antony is a huge fan of “classic” and “timeless” tailoring.
He said: “I might be known for the bold colours and prints you may see [on ‘Black-ish’] … but I also love classic men’s tailoring and luxurious, timeless fabrics.
“I actually know quite a bit about good tailoring. You may find me in a bright tracksuit, sneakers and fitted cap, and on that same day, a double-breasted silk suit and a loafer. I can do it all.”

Ali Wong dons 5-inch platforms to Emmy Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Ali Wong wore five-inch platform shoes to the Emmy Awards because of a knee injury.
The ‘Beef’ actress – who won the Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series or Movie accolade – walked the red carpet on Monday (15.01.24) in a custom Louis Vuitton dress which featured silver beading on the bodice and colourful beaded flowers on the skirt, and she lifted up her gown to show off her black high-heeled shoes.
She told E! News host Heather McMahan: “I’m nursing a knee injury.
“I had to wear, like, heel platforms. These add about five inches. They’re insane.”
Ali teamed her dress with Chopard jewellery, including a 10.76 carat diamond ring and earrings featuring 36.44 carats of diamonds.
The 41-year-old actress admitted she is “thrilled” ‘Beef’ has done so well during awards season this year, particularly because the show is so “weird”.
She told ‘Extra’: “It’s such a joy, that show we made, it’s a weird show. The finale, we didn’t how people were going to respond to it… I’m still just thrilled about how many people connected with the show.
“I think people, obviously in L.A., they really identify with the road rage, but also there’s a lot of people who feel like they have repressed rage in general. They don’t have space to be angry… it was really cool to explore all that.”
But Ali herself feels “uncomfortable” accepting awards.
Speaking a day after she scooped a Critics Choice award for her work on the show, she said: ”
“Honestly, I don’t even remember what happened… As soon as I get in the car home, I watch the playback right away… I’m genuinely really surprised because I started out in stand-up comedy… I was really uncomfortable, I think, calling myself and identifying as an actress until very recently.”

Ayo Edebiri’s ‘mistake turned into a miracle’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ayo Edebiri’s Emmy Awards dress was a “mistake turned into a miracle”.
The 28-year-old actress – who won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series prize for her role in ‘The Bear’ – donned a skintight leather strapless gown from Louis Vuitton with a billowing skirt and she couldn’t have been happier with the custom creation.
Speaking to E! News’ Laverne Cox on the red carpet at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theatre, she said: “We had a last-minute fitting.
“A sort of mistake turned into a miracle. It’s…not my body but pretty close to my body. They moulded it to me. And we’re snatched and we’re loving it.”
The ‘Abbott Elementary’ actress admitted she enjoys getting dressed up for glitzy events.
Discussing the pep talk she’d give her younger self, she said: “You get to wear custom Louis Vuitton every now and again. It’s pretty cute.”
But Ayo also got serious and admitted there were more practical perks about her fame that she appreciated.
Still discussing her younger self, she said: “She didn’t dream of nights like this. She sort of dreamed of dental insurance. We got dental, we eyes, we got ears. We can go to the dermatologist…
“Check your moles. Wear sunscreen even if you’re Black.”
When she accepted her award early in the evening, Ayo dedicated it to her parents.
She said: “Hi, OK, I’m so incredibly grateful for this for so many reasons but the main one, this is a show about family and found family and real family and my parents are here tonight.
“I’m making them sit far away from me because I’m a bad kid but I love you guys so much. Thank you for loving me and letting me feel beautiful and black and proud of all of that. I just love you so much.
“Probably not a dream to emigrate to this country and have your child be like ‘I wanna do improv’ but you’re real ones. Thank you so much for this, it means the world.”

Boohoo put ‘Made in the UK’ labels on potentially thousands of clothes made in Asia

OHMYGOSSIP — Boohoo put ‘Made in the UK’ labels on potentially thousands of clothes made in South Asia.
Plain T-shirts and hoodies from the fast fashion firm had their original labels removed at Boohoo’s flagship factory in Thurmaston Lane in Leicester, last year, a BBC Panorama investigation has found.
The revelation comes after the BBC last week reported the company is considering closing the site.
Boohoo said the incorrect labelling was due to a misinterpretation of the labelling rules.
Thurmaston Lane opened in 2022 and was promoted by the retailer as a UK manufacturing centre of excellence, offering end-to-end garment production in Britain.
The mislabelling exposed by the BBC took place at the factory and affected up to one in 250 of Boohoo’s global supply of garments between January and October of 2023.
The BBC estimated it could amount to hundreds of thousands of wrongly labelled garments – but said the retailer would not provide precise figures.
Boohoo claims it was an isolated incident which had happened as a result of human error, with a company spokesperson telling the BBC: “We have taken steps to ensure this does not happen again.”
The garments had been shipped from Pakistan and other countries in South Asia to Boohoo’s Leicester factory where they were printed on to the clothes.
Sylvia Rook, lead officer for fair trading at the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, said that based on information provided by Panorama, replacing country-of-origin labels with ‘Made in the UK’ ones was “incorrect” and could “potentially mislead consumers”.
The MP Philip Dunne, who is chair of the Environmental Audit Committee, called the labelling findings a potentially very serious allegation.
He told the BBC: “Consumers should not be misled as to the source of garments that they’re buying.”
Boohoo pledged to overhaul its working practices in 2020, following reports that staff at a factory making its clothes in Leicester were earning less than the minimum wage, and that working conditions were unsafe.

Dame Vivienne Westwood made £84,000 a day the year she died

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Vivienne Westwood made £84,000 a day in the year she died.
The fashion icon, whose firm employs around 300 staff, died on December 29 in 2022 aged 81, and new accounts for the company show her self-named label recently banked profits of £30.6 million on revenues of £100 million.
Her punk-inspired brand also doubled its assets to £60 million, with seven in 10 sales of her dresses, shoes and bags being made in the UK, The Sun has reported after obtaining the documents.
Two weeks before her death, fashion designer and punk pioneer Vivienne had appointed her friend and company design chief Jeff Banks, 80, to co-director of her firm.
The dame is famed for dressing many of the world’s A-listers and royals and started her company from a single design desk at Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren’s fashion store in London – before creating a global label with stores in France, Italy, the US and Asia.
The accounts emerged after it was reported the Vivienne Westwood fashion house has cut office hours to two days a week in a bid to hit net zero targets.
Vivienne was also an outspoken climate change activist, and the firm said staff at its offices in Battersea, south west London, had been told to work from home on most days as part of an energy-efficiency drive.
The company also said it was urging customers to buy less “to raise awareness of the environmental impact of overconsumption”.
In company filings, the fashion house said: “We have implemented hybrid working, with staff working from home three days a week.
“The brand voice is used to raise awareness of the environmental impact of overconsumption urging people to buy less and buy better quality items.”

Princess Anne inspires Fund’s latest MEN’S collection!

OHMYGOSSIP — Anne, the Princess Royal has become an unlikely source of inspiration for Italian fashion house Fendi.
The 73-year-old has become renowned for her frugal and straight-talking approach to fashion, and revealed in 2023 she had been happy to opt for full military regalia for her brother King Charles’ coronation because “not least of all, it solves my dress problem”.
It’s now emerged Fendi used her as the source of inspiration for its latest menswear collection.
Designer Silvia Venturini Fendi said it was the sight of the princess at the coronation in her Blues and Royals velvet cloak and feathered hat that prompted the choice.
He was quoted in The Guardian saying: “I fell in love with the style of Princess Anne who, to my mind, is the most elegant woman in the world.
“When I saw the coronation last year with Princess Anne in her uniform, I thought she looked beautiful.
“So I said, ‘Let’s be inspired for a men’s collection.’”
The house’s autumn/winter 2024–’25 collection is titled Town and Country and references traditional royal-wear in rainy winter weather across the moorlands of estates such as Balmoral in Scotland, where Anne’s mum Queen Elizabeth died aged 96 in 2022.
The collection includes oversized Barbour-style parkas, leather wellies, sou’wester rain hats, generously sized dark green sweaters and tartan skirts, skorts and kilts.
Anne is famed for rewearing clothes at public events, with one of her blue coats making appearances at the royals’ Christmas morning church services at Sandringham since 1976.
Last week, on a trip to Sri Lanka, she wore her trademark Adidas sunglasses, given to her by the British cycling team in the 2012 London Olympics – which are rumoured to have inspired Stella McCartney designs.
Anne has slammed fast fashion, and once said on a visit to a textiles facility: “You think about how much is going into landfill.”

FKA Twigs brands Calvin Klein ad ban ‘double standard’

OHMYGOSSIP — FKA Twigs has branded her Calvin Klein ad ban a product of “double standards”.
The 36-year-old singer has had her promotion for the brand pulled by the Advertising Standards Authority over complaints it objectified women, days after a campaign featuring ‘The Bear’ actor Jeremy Allen White, 32, stripped to his underwear was hailed a hit.
FKA’s ad featured her wearing more than Jeremy and showed her in a denim shirt that was drawn halfway around her body, leaving the side of her buttocks and half of one breast exposed, with text reading: “Calvins or nothing.”
The ASA received two complaints that the images used were “overly sexualised”, offensive and irresponsible because they objectified women and were inappropriately displayed.
FKA – born Tahliah Debrett Barnett – hit out at the decision on Instagram, posting alongside a picture of her pulled poster: “I do not see the ‘stereotypical sexual object’ that they have labelled me.
“I see a beautiful strong woman of colour whose incredible body has overcome more pain than you can imagine.
“In light of reviewing other campaigns past and current of this nature, I can’t help but feel there are some double standards here.
“So to be clear… I am proud of my physicality and hold the art I create with my vessel to the standards of women like Josephine Baker, Eartha Kitt and Grace Jones who broke down barriers of what it looks like to be empowered and harness a unique embodied sensuality.”
She signed off her post by thanking Calvin Klein, adding: “Thank you to CK and Mert and Marcus (the fashion photography duo) who gave me a space to express myself exactly how I wanted to – I will not have my narrative changed.”
Calvin Klein also previously defended the ad, saying it was similar to those it had been releasing in the UK for many years.
The fashion brand said FKA had collaborated with the brand to produce the image and had approved it before publication.
It added any “conventionally sensitive” body areas were fully covered and the subject was in a natural and neutral position.
The ASA ruled: “We considered the image’s composition placed viewers’ focus on the model’s body rather than on the clothing being advertised.
“The ad used nudity and centred on FKA Twigs’ physical features rather than the clothing, to the extent that it presented her as a stereotypical sexual object.
“We therefore concluded the ad was irresponsible and likely to cause serious offence.”

Julia Roberts reveals why she’s refused ‘most’ offers to front fashion campaigns

OHMYGOSSIP — Julia Roberts has refused “most” offers to front fashion campaigns.
The 56-year-old ‘Pretty Woman’ actress said she instead tries to spend her time away from acting working with companies that are family-run and finds brand work “big” decisions.
She told British Vogue when asked how she decides what to endorse: “Those I find to be very big, thoughtful decisions. I don’t accept most or many.
“I find myself gravitating towards enterprises that are run by families a lot – that’s something that always kind of gets my extra attention.”
Julia made the remarks in a cover chat for the magazine with her ‘Notting Hill’ director Richard Curtis, 67, who also asked if she preferred working with family businesses as she found them less “corporate”.
She added: “I just feel I understand what a family enterprise is more than a kind of stable of people that work together.
“Chopard is a family, and that means something to me. Being at Lancôme, it’s not a family, but at this point I’ve been there for so long, and we all know each other in such an intrinsic way, that it has become very familial to me in that regard.”
Julia also joked in her chat with Richard the secret to her youthful looks was “pickling” her head for 18 hours every fortnight.
The mum-of-three also admitted she thinks she looked far younger at the peak of her movie career, saying: “Not to say I’m unchanged, because I did see a picture earlier of Tom Hanks and me from a movie, and we looked like we had been ironed.”
When Richard told her Vogue readers “will want to know whether or not you use any artificial methods to preserve your lustrous youth”, Julia joked: “Pickling. I put my head in the jar every other Saturday for 18 hours. It does wonders. The smell is awful.”
She then added: “No – serious answer. Good genes, leading a life that is fulfilling, and I have said this – and I say it usually as kind of a joke – but I do believe in the love of a good man.”

Daniel Kaluuya snubs fashion campaign as he didn’t want to work with white actors who hadn’t achieved as much as he has

OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel Kaluuya has turned down a fashion campaign because a brand wanted to team him with white actors who “had not achieved as much” as he has in their careers.
The ‘Get Out’ actor, 34, who won an Oscar for his role in ‘Jesus and the Black Messiah’ also declared he wanted to make sure he was “representing right” with his brand choices.
He told British GQ about refusing offers from the fashion industry: “I said no to them. I didn’t understand it. If it’s not a (big) yeah, it’s a no.
“They wanted to put me against two white actors that hadn’t achieved as much as me.
“And I was all, ‘I wanna be on my own. Because that’s not gonna look good’.
“I’ve done things. I just feel like I have a certain position. It’s not like, ‘Oh, I’m so cool.’ I’m just like, ‘I don’t like that.’
“It’s got to be because of what it means, because I want to be out there and make sure I’m representing right.”
He also said: “No one’s gonna make me feel like that. I thought, Why would I shrink myself? My mum didn’t raise me like that. Why do I shrink myself to make people feel comfortable?
“I want to do some good, cool (stuff.)
“I want to help people, and I want to bring jobs. I want everyone to grow artistically. I want to do amazing things.
“Why would I shrink? Why would I dim?”
Along with his acting, Daniel has also been named associate artistic director of The Roundhouse in Camden, London.
His first act in the role was announcing the formation of a new youth theatre company that will create pathways into the industry for actors of all backgrounds.
He said about his plans: “Bro, chest out. Let’s do this.”
