India Gants looks up to Rita Ora

OHMYGOSSIP — India Gants wants to be like Rita Ora.
The ‘America’s Next Top Model’ winner was thrilled to triumph on the talent show and is now keen to explore lots of different avenues including music like the ‘Hot Right Now’ singer.
Asked if she would want to pursue a career in music, she said: “I would! What I really want to do post-America’s Next Top Model is to develop a brand around the name ‘India’. Where, sort of like Rita, I’m doing some music, but am doing other things.
“Right now, I have my shoe designs that I’m now pursuing and then modeling at the base of it all. I’m trying to home in on a way to combine them. But I will be doing something in music. I worked pretty hard at [becoming a DJ] for a while, trying to make the right connections, but I don’t yet have the knowledge.
“I feel like I need to keep practicing and get a better mixer to practice on. I totally would want to be a DJ and even further I’d love to produce. I messed around a little bit with Ableton and FL Studios, but life gets in the way sometimes. DJ/producer is the ultimate goal.”
And the 20-year-old model says it was “amazing” to be mentored by Rita Ora on the show.
She added to Billboard magazine: “It was good. When I heard that Rita was going to be the host, I was thrilled. I am a music person, and America’s Next Top Model was going to be on VH1, and Rita’s hosting. I knew this was good for me because I’m trying to find a way to combine music with modeling. Having Rita as our mentor was amazing because she’s doing it all: acting, modeling, singing …
“Her and [judge, Paper Magazine’s Chief Creative Officer] Drew Elliott were Team India for sure. I didn’t even notice Rita liked me so much during filming. Then watching it back, I was like, ‘Oh my god, she said some very sweet things about me.'”

Coco Rocha is more selective

OHMYGOSSIP — Coco Rocha is more selective about the jobs she takes on now she is a mother.
The 28-year-old model – who has two-year-old daughter Ioni with her husband James Conran – would do any job when she was starting out in the industry but is pickier now she has a family to protect and provide for.
She said: “Now that I’m a mom, when it comes to campaigns and editorials, I look at the bigger story. I ask if that’s a good fit for the Coco brand, should I work with every editorial that comes my way, every brand. It’s about pinpointing what’s good.
“Early on, I would do any job that was brought to me. But then I stood back one second and realised that I didn’t have a life. My agents had lives. They could book me a job and go out to dinner with their friends and I’d be off shooting somewhere. I was overwhelmed. I started dating my now-husband and realised that I was enjoying life a lot more.
“I didn’t want to be consumed by my career. Now we have a baby girl and that’s what grounds me. I travel as much as I can with my family. My hair and make-up team are people that I absolutely love, who make me laugh. We’re not curing cancer. We’re going to do our jobs, doing it well, and realise we can have fun.”
And Coco finds it “a lot easier to say no” now she is older.
She added: “As you grow up, it’s a lot easier to say no. It was a bit overwhelming when I was younger. But people respect me for it. They understand completely.”
Many of Coco’s friends are models, too, but she admits that can make it difficult for them to see each other because of their jet-setting schedules.
She told Prestige: “I’m friends with a lot of them but it’s hard to see each other because of all the travel. We might be together for many days and then not see each other for a long time. It’s the name of the game.
“So it can be frustrating to be friends with other models. Our schedules change by the minute. It’s different with my friends from home. I went back for a wedding recently and it was exactly the same. It was like we’d never been apart.”

Jonathan Saunders' plans for the Diane von Furstenberg label

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonathan Saunders has “updated” the Diane von Furstenberg label to suit younger women.
The 40-year-old fashion designer was appointed the Chief Creative Officer of the designer brand, which is also known as DvF, in May last year, and the creative mastermind doesn’t believe he has “reinvented” the company but has taken it into a direction in a bid to appeal to all generations of females instead.
Speaking to Net-A-Porter’s The Edit about his debut collection and the helming the fashion house, which was previously set up by 70-year-old Diane von Furstenberg, he said: “I haven’t reinvented her so much as updated the designs to make them relevant to young women today.”
The fashion icon has revealed he has altered the length of the brand’s signature staple of the wrap dress, and has emblazoned them with “bold” patterns in a bid to “modernise” the garment.
He explained: “So I took it in its original iteration and modernized it by making it mid-calf, for instance, or creating it out of bold floral patterns.”
And the Scottish mogul – who closed his eponymous label in 2015 – was focused on achieving “sensuality, femininity, and freedom” in his capsule merged with a “sense of ease”.
He explained: “Ultimately, my goal was to achieve a sense of sensuality, femininity and freedom, balanced with an everyday sense of ease. Because, to me, that is what the wrap dress represents.”
Meanwhile Jonathan, who has had to report to CEO Paolo Riva, has admitted he was “thrilled” to be selected of DvF’s “next chapter”.
Speaking at the time he was announced he would be taking over, he said: “The spirit with which this brand was founded is incredibly relevant today. I am thrilled to be part of its next chapter. Diane has a unique ability to deeply connect with women and I am excited to be working with Paolo on the future of the brand.”

Gigi Hadid takes photographs to prevent her from going 'insane'

OHMYGOSSIP — Gigi Hadid took photographs during Fashion Week to prevent her from going “insane”.
The 21-year-old model graced the runway for numerous designer brands, including Balmain, Fendi and Versace, during the fashion extravaganza earlier this year and amongst all the chaos, the blonde beauty decided “the only way” to escape the mayhem was to snap away on her camera.
Speaking to Fashion Week Daily website about her release mechanism, the catwalk icon said: “Creative people always need to be creating, regardless of whether they are working or not. For me, making Polaroids during Fashion Week was literally the only way I wouldn’t go insane. I could take pictures of my friends and the people who make me happy.”
And the fashion muse has revealed her mother, Yolanda, was a large inspiration for her and her siblings Bella, 20, and Anwar, 17, when they were younger as she was “always” taking pictures, which encouraged Gigi to follow in her footsteps.
Speaking about her 53-year-old parent, Gigi – who is currently dating ‘Pillo Talk’ hitmaker Zayn Malik – she said: “During her time as a model, she was always shooting her own stuff. She has some amazing behind-the-scenes photography of traveling the world. When she quit modelling when Bella and I were born, there was a camera around all the time. We were always being photographed, and we could always play with our mum’s camera. I grew up taking pictures of everything. I was a competitive horseback rider, and starting at 14 or 15, in between my competitions, I would take pictures of my friends’ horses and sell them for $10. I would print them myself. I loved it. I used to have hadidphotography.com. It’s now just a locked webstarter.”

Cara Delevingne 'always' carries mascara in her bag

OHMYGOSSIP — Cara Delevingne “always” has a mascara in her bag.

Speaking about her essential cosmetic items to Elle magazine, the blonde beauty said: “I always keep a mascara in my bad for when I need to quickly turn things around from day to night. Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded mascara is my trusted favourite.”
However, the ‘Suicide Squad’ actress – who played the role of the Enchantress in the fantasy film based on the DC Comic book series – has revealed when she has a day off out of her busy work schedule, she will not apply any make-up products to her face to help her skin “breathe”.

She explained: “Make-up really helps me get into character for my acting roles.”

Nicki Minaj signs with model agency

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicki Minaj has signed a huge modelling contract.
The ‘Superbass’ hitmaker is “thrilled and honoured” to have signed with the celebrity division of Wilhelmina International Inc. and explained how her music inspires her fashion choices.
She told Vogue magazine: “I love the synergy between my music and how it inspires my fashion. My message is always celebrating your own style. I’m thrilled and honoured to have signed with Wilhelmina – they get me.”
Meanwhile, Nicki’s stylist Maher Jridi previously spoke out about the singer’s openness to new ideas and styles when it comes to her fashion choices.
He said: “She’s very open to new ideas and I feel like she trusts my taste. Of course, she has her preferences, but she never opposes anything just because she’s never done it before.”
The pair also like to tailor every outfit exactly to Nicki’s curvy body shape to show off her hourglass figure.
He added: “Yes, most of the runway looks are sample sizes, so things are very straight along with fitted cuts. Nicki is a sexy, curvy woman, which I love, so to amplify that we tailor everything to make sure each piece sits perfectly on her body and every outfit complements her in the best possible way.”
And Maher remembers being really impressed with Nicki’s “professionalism” when they first worked together.
He shared: “We started working together two weeks before Paris Fashion Week, shooting videos in Miami. She had already planned to travel to Paris for Drake’s concerts, so I thought it would be nice to fly a few days earlier for her to see shows that are considered a bit more ‘underground’, such as Rick Owens and Haider Ackermann; brands who have their own world and identity and are so creative.
“Our first job together was also my first time seeing her perform on the set of a music video, and she made everything look so easy. Nicki really is a true professional and performer, and I’m learning new things every day thanks to her. The music business is a bit different than the fashion/editorial world.”

Daisy Lowe channels different 'characters' when posing for a shoot

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Lowe always channels a different character when she is modelling on a photoshoot.
The 28-year-old fashion muse – who is the daughter of Pearl Lowe and musician Gavin Rossdale – has admitted during her 13 years of modelling she has had to put on a façade to be able to get into “the mood” when shooting a campaign because she believes women’s bodies are “constantly scrutinised”.
Speaking about her career in front of the camera in a podcast with Glamour magazine titled ‘Glamour Presents: Hey It’s Ok’, she said: “I think with modelling you’re constantly scrutinised for your body.
“I’ve been a model for 13 years now, and you can always hide behind the camera. You are in one room with a handful of people and UI always played characters to get in the mood for whatever we were shooting.”
And the catwalk icon, who recently graced the runway during Katy Eary’s catwalk show during Men’s Fashion Week this year, has admitted she has always been “really nervous” ahead of a fashion presentation, but for the “first time ever” she felt confident on the platform.
The brunette beauty explained: “I went and did a fashion show I walked in Katie Eary’s show for Men’s fashion week, and usually whenever I’ve done fashion shows I always get really nervous. And for the first time ever I just thought ‘Well now I am putting one foot in front of the other.'”
Meanwhile, Daisy has openly admitted her body shape changes depending on the amount of exercise she does and how much food she indulges in because she is a “big fan” of tasty treats.
She said: “Usually when you start out modelling you’re a teenager. Your body changes so much with all of your hormones. Also I’m a big fan of food.
“I am a keen baker, and my body shape certainly changes often depending on how much time I have for exercise and how much I am enjoying food at that particularly time.”

Shay Mitchell's music-inspired makeup

OHMYGOSSIP — Shay Mitchell listens to music when she puts her makeup on.
The ‘Pretty Little Liars’ star and her “glam squad” likes to listen to different songs whilst they are working on her look as she feels it “gets them in the right headspace”.
She said: “Honestly, I am such good friends with my glam squad and love creating looks so it’s a really fun time! Music is big for me because it sets the tone and gets you in the right headspace.
“I put on Spotify, choose a mood and I always like to be surprised. Currently, I am all about ’90s hip-hop, so we are listening to a lot of Mase and old Ja Rule.”
And the 29-year-old actress tries not to take makeup “too seriously” and likes to use it as a way to “accentuate” her natural features.
She added: “Makeup should be something that’s fun and not taken too seriously. It should be used to accentuate your natural features but also to play around and experiment. I think it’s all about playing, and that’s why I was so excited to get to work with Smashbox because that is what they are known for.
“They are very creative, and now I get to be a part of the brand with these awesome palettes. I love that there are seven completely different looks, so depending on your mood or where you’re going, you can tap into these different personalities. It’s an idea that was a no-brainer for me because that’s how I use makeup.”
Meanwhile, Shay also admitted she is “fascinated” with how “transformative” makeup is.
She told US HELLO! magazine: “Growing up I would watch my mom get ready by putting on her red lipstick or eyeshadows – it was the 1980s so she went full force – but it was always fun to see how she changed her look.
“Then I got into modelling and acting so I got to work with amazing artists who could totally change my appearance. And I became fascinated by the transformative process.”

Natalia Vodianova was scared of 'rejection' in her modelling career

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalia Vodianova used to be afraid of “rejection” when she was younger.
The 35-year-old model signed up to a modelling agency at the age of 15, and was signed to Viva models two years later, but the star has admitted she never wanted to leave her home in Russia or her “cute boyfriend” to pursue her career because she was fearful of being turned down.
Speaking about her journey to becoming a catwalk icon, and how she nearly missed out on the opportunity, she said: “When I was first signed to a modelling agency, I didn’t want to leave my town [Nizhny Novgorod] or my cute boyfriend.
“I would turn up to castings, afraid of rejection. The thing is, when you’re really poor, the only thing you have left is your pride.”
And the star has revealed she purposefully decided to miss almost 10 trains because she was scared of the outcome.
She said: “My grandmother bought me tickets to Moscow and I missed the train on purpose about six times.”
However, the blonde beauty has revealed there was a reason behind her actions, and her intuition largely helped her to “navigate” her way through her life.
She explained: “I’ve always relied on my intuition to navigate through life.”
Although the fashion muse had to force herself to attend castings, she has admitted that on reflection she is proud of her achievements and should have given herself “more credit” for her successes when she was younger and uprooted to a big city in America.
She explained to Elle magazine: “I don’t think I ever gave myself enough credit for moving to New York at 17.”

Kendall Jenner's huge closet took two weeks to organise

OHMYGOSSIP — Kendall Jenner’s new closet is so big that it took her “a couple of weeks” to organise.
The ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star loves all the new space she has, including an island in the middle of the luxurious wardrobe, and she managed to get it all sorted out with the help of her stylist Monica Rose.
Writing about her closet on her official website, she shared: “It was perfect when I moved in and didn’t need any customisation.
“All four walls are racks but the biggest perk is that I have an island in the centre, which I’ve never had before … It only took a couple of weeks to organise.”
Meanwhile, Kendall previously revealed she painted her bedroom pink to “suppress” her appetite.
She said: “I decided to paint [my room] pink because while I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the room, I went to dinner with friends and they had just gone to the Human Condition exhibition at a former hospital in LA.
“They were telling me there’s a pink room at the exhibit that had an explanation of the colour choice: Baker-Miller Pink is the only colour scientifically proven to calm you AND suppress your appetite. I was like, ‘I NEED this colour in my house!’ (sic).”
And Kendall likes to change her outfits to be more revealing if she is having “a good boob day” so she can flaunt her assets.
Speaking about her style choices, she added: “I don’t know if you can relate, but I just felt like I was having a really good boob day, lol. Do you know what I mean? Your boobs go through phases and on this particular day, I felt like they just looked nice! (sic)”

Chloe Grace Moretz's brother got her into eye cream at 10

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Grace Moretz’s brother persuaded her to use eye cream when she was a child.
The 20-year-old actress-and-model – who became the face of Coach after the designer brand’s creative director Stuart Vevers signed her up in 2016 – has revealed it was her 30-year-old brother Trevor who introduced her to her first beauty product when she was just 10 years old.
She told website Byrdie: “My brother Trevor started me on eye cream when I was 10 years old, and he was like, “You will not regret this,” and I swear to god I will have the under-eyes of a baby. Cause I’ve been doing eye cream since I was 10 years old, it’s the key.”
And having a clear complexion is something Chloe puts down to wearing as little make-up as possible.
She said: “My beauty routine is pretty simple. I am not a big fan of makeup. I believe in a clean, fresh look. I routinely go for facials at my dermatologist’s office, Dr. Lancer, and they have transformed my skin. I wash my face, apply moisturiser, put on some mascara and lip balm, and pretty much go about my day. As for hair, anything by Kevin Murphy; maybe Killer Curls, depending on the look.”
One beauty tip she lives by is “always” washing her face, eating bananas and drinking green tea.
She said: “My one big tip is ALWAYS take time to wash your face, no matter how tired you may be.
“I love bananas! They provide the perfect amount of energy and potassium on those days where you are running around all day and working out. Oh, and I always have iced green tea with me.”
And her style icon is late Hollywood legend Audrey Hepburn.
She said: “I feel she set a look over 50 years ago that many people adhere to today fashion-wise. [For beauty inspiration] Alicia Vikander and Natalie Portman; they have natural beauty.”

Amandla Stenberg's androgynous style

OHMYGOSSIP — Amandla Stenberg is most comfortable “dressing like a boy”.
The 18-year-old actress- and-model – who made her breakthrough starring as Rue in ‘The Hunger Games’ – walked for Coco Chanel at Paris Fashion Week last autumn, and was inspired by the fashion house’s ability to create garments which were “comfortable” and had “personal flare”.
She told the latest issue of InStyle magazine: “Something that Mademoiselle Chanel did so well was to utilise the power of comfort to make beautiful statements and craft intricate pieces of fashion. That’s something I try to cultivate. How to use fashion and how to use comfort, for me, a lot of times [means] dressing like a boy … and how to intermingle that with a sense of personal flare and attention to detail. That’s something that [Chanel] did masterfully.”
Amandla also admitted she struggled with the pressure of dressing for her gender.
She said: “I thought that I had to dress a certain way in order to appear female, in order to subscribe to certain beauty standards, in order to look pretty. And once I lifted that limitation off of myself of trying to look digestible, especially to the male gaze, it was a lot easier for me to find what style actually suited me. I was able to recognize that gender is a construct and my clothing can look like whatever I want.
“At the end of the day, it’s fabric draped over your body. [When I realised that] I was able to actually recognize when I do enjoy women’s fashion. Chanel is one of those brands that I feel comfortable in. It doesn’t make me feel like I’m trying to fit into a box that doesn’t feel natural to me. That’s super rare for a luxury brand.”
The wavy-haired beauty is a key figure among fashion conscious youngsters and has advised them to take their insecurities and turn them on their head and address them through what they are wearing.
She said: “When you’re comfortable in what you’re wearing you feel the most powerful. You radiate the most. People can sense that immediately. I’m not necessarily drawn to one particular style, but to people who know how to take their insecurities, spin them on their axes and present them to the world through their clothing.”

Winnie Harlow is desperate to launch a beauty line

OHMYGOSSIP — Winnie Harlow is desperate to launch a beauty line.
The 22-year-old model has “always” been interested in cosmetic products and skincare, and she has hinted if she was to collaborate on a project in the near future she would work on a make-up collection, and she would want to be involved in the “whole process” of creating the products.
She said: “I’ve always been a lot about beauty and products, and skincare and make-up.
“If I was to do a collaboration right now I think it would have to be skincare, beauty products and maybe make-up. I’m really interested in the whole process, be it manufacturing, distributing it, formulation, all that stuff.”
The brunette beauty – who has the skin condition vitiligo – has admitted when she first started her modelling career she was not mentored by anyone, but that didn’t stop her from being inspired by other stars.
She said: “There wasn’t anyone who was specifically taking me under their wing. I definitely looked up to people though, one major person being Naomi Campbell of course. That’s like a given.
“I feel like I pull inspiration from everyone and I feel like I’m honoured and grateful that people feel that they can pull inspiration from me, be inspired by me. But I definitely don’t think I’m a role model. I’m not someone to be imitated.
“For me, honestly, the term role model means for someone to be imitated and I don’t feel like anyone is to be imitated.”
And one person the catwalk icon is particularly “infatuated” with fellow model Jourdan Dunn.
Speaking at the Glamour Beauty Festival, she said: “I met Jourdan Dunn later on in my career and I was absolutely infatuated with her. She is also of Jamaican descent, she’s from South London. So we’re both you know, from edgy areas of our cities … We blended really well.”
