Cara Delevingne ‘understands’ women’s empowerment

OHMYGOSSIP — Cara Delevingne has started to “understand women’s empowerment”.
The 24-year-old model has opened up about female equality and how she treats herself as part of the sportswear giant Puma’s #DoYou campaign, which saw the catwalk icon admit she wants to have a positive impact on boosting the confidence of other women.
Speaking at an event, which took place at London’s Central Saint Martins on Sunday (23.07.17), Cara – who is an ambassador for the fashion house – said: “I see, and I am more aware, of my own ignorance. Of what people say and how spoiled we are in the West — and obviously myself included.
“Now I am starting to understand women’s empowerment a lot more and how I want to lift other women up. But you can’t do that unless you lift yourself up. I’m still growing every day. It’s a constant reminder.”
Although the ‘Suicide Squad’ actress wants to encourage other people to feel confident in their skin she has admitted she struggled to stay positive and used to put herself down a lot.
She explained: “Even the way I actually treat myself sometimes, and how much I put myself down and how much I made myself feel bad about myself.”
And it was Cara’s recent trip to Africa with the United Nations’ Girl Up foundation earlier this year, which triggered her to change her ways.
Speaking about the turning point in her life, the star said: “I started saying no, and realising what my strengths were, and believing in myself. We all have our turning points. It made me realise how lucky I am to be alive. Especially to be able to do what I do. The reason I wanted to do this … if I ever got famous. I knew I needed to help.”

I loved staying in Zimbabwe. I loved seeing the animals and being a visitor in their home. (Yes that includes huge spiders but it was a fair trade off for BABY ELEPHANTS.)
There were no ovens and all the cooking was on the fire! Delicious. Loved our guide, Spike. Unparalleled knowledge of wildlife and nature. GL & I loved sitting by the fire and learning about the constellations above us. #hwangebushcamp #premiertoursAF (sic).”

Bella Freud: ‘Fashion is a really powerful communicator’

OHMYGOSSIP — Bella Freud believes fashion is a “really powerful communicator”.
The 56-year-old fashion designer believes a person’s wardrobe choices can boost one’s confidence to make them “forget” what they’re actually wearing to the point they feel comfortable in their own skin and become their “best self”.
Speaking about the impact of good styling to InStyle.co.uk, the creative mastermind said: “Fashion is a really powerful communicator. And the message is even more relevant today.
“I think that’s the power of clothes. They can make you feel really good so you can forget about what you’re wearing and you can just be your best self.”
Bella has recently collaborated with the prestigious denim company J Brand on a new 17-piece collection, but the mogul has revealed there are only two styles of jeans that suit her.
Speaking about her personal style, she said: “When it comes to jeans I always either go for a boy cut or a wide leg shape, like the Jane ones I designed and I’m wearing today. They suit me. And pretty much nothing else does. Growing up, denim wasn’t really a thing like it is now but I was always interested in it.
“I still remember my first pair, slightly paled turquoise coloured pair from the Kings Road. I didn’t get loads of new things in those days so to go to a shop and find something that fitted me so well was magical.”
But Bella has revealed when she is searching for a new pair of the wardrobe staple she always chooses a style that accentuates her body shape and makes her look like she has a “good ass and long legs.”
She explained: “When buying jeans the most important thing to look for is a pair that makes you have a good ass and long legs and then you’re winning.”

Ruth Negga is ‘intimidated’ by wardrobes

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruth Negga is “intimidated” by wardrobes.
The 35-year-old actress has admitted she feels “overwhelmed” when she sees a large amount of clothes arranged in a closet, and she much prefers to live out of one single suitcase instead because there is a limited amount of outfits she can choose from.
Speaking to Net-A-Porter’s The Edit magazine about her fashion fears, the brunette beauty said: “I get intimidated by wardrobes. I’m really good now at operating out of one suitcase, and I get overwhelmed by having anything more than that.”
But the ‘Loving’ star relies heavily on her stylist Karla Welch who selects the ensembles for her to wear to suit her body shape, give her “confidence” and to hide any problem areas.
Speaking about her go-to fashion guru, Ruth said: “She’s a huge feminist, and that was important. I don’t have time to go to the gym, and she dresses my body in a way that’s going to give me confidence.”
Ruth has admitted her signature style is a top or dress with a sleeve and a high neck, and she is very stubborn when it comes to wearing clothes because she doesn’t want to be forced to wear something she won’t feel comfortable in.
She said: “I like a sleeve, I like a high neck, that’s my style. And I am gently stubborn about being shoehorned into something that I am not.”
Ruth has recently finished filming ‘Preacher’ with her long-term boyfriend Dominic Cooper, but she has no plans for the “next few months” after the project, which she has hinted she is looking forward to.
She explained: “I’m not interested in working for the next few months. I think people get worried about a wave they have to ride. But what if you crash out and you can’t ride any more waves?”

And Law believes the former ‘Shake It Up’ star is her “style soul mate”, because Zendaya will instantly pick out his “favourite” item hidden in a selection of garments for the fashion icon.
He said: “I call her my style soul mate and our relationship is perfection. I can literally bring a rack of 20 things and I’ll have my favourite nestled in the middle somewhere and she’ll come right back to it and say ‘I love this one’.
“Nine times out of 10 that always happens. And now everything we do is just second nature to us. The way we think, the ideas we both have, it’s almost kind of scary in a great way.”

Lily Collins slams the fashion industry over the BMI debate

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily Collins has slammed the fashion industry for casting “extremely small girls” in catwalk shows.
The 28-year-old actress, who forged a career as a model before she broke into the entertainment industry, believes France’s debate to include models with a body mass index (BMI) of at least 18 on the runway was “really important”, but she believes another conversation on model’s weight and health is to be had.
Speaking about the business to The Hollywood Reporter, the brunette beauty said: “I think the BMI conversation was really important.
“”But then you do watch fashion shows and you do see extremely small girls walking down the runway, and a lot of them are really young and haven’t become women yet. It’s like their body shape hasn’t changed. Some girls look like they’re about to pass out.
“I think there’s still a conversation to be had there about runway sizes.”
Lily portrays a female battling with anorexia, Ellen, in the drama film ‘To The Bone’ and the star has revealed she has recently been criticised for her rapid weight loss, which was in preparation for the role, and she wished the public would be more sensitive to those who are a “victim” of the eating disorder.
She said: “I hate that because you just don’t know if someone is struggling. I was a victim of that when I was losing the weight for this movie.
“I was photographed looking a certain way, and all of a sudden it was like plastered everywhere, and I wasn’t allowed to talk about the movie yet.”
Meanwhile, Lily – who is the daughter of musician Phil Collins – has already moved onto another project and is set to appear in ‘The Last Tycoon’, which will premiere on July 28, and the star is hopeful the show will get a follow-up in the future.

Adwoa Aboah felt ‘very unattractive’ as a child

OHMYGOSSIP — Adwoa Aboah felt “very unattractive” when she was younger.
The 25-year-old model has graced the runway for prestigious fashion brands including Calvin Klein, Fendi and Alexander Wang, but she has admitted when she was at school she didn’t feel as beautiful as her peers because she looked “a lot different” to her classmates, and she would base her “worth” on whether anyone in her class wanted to date her.
Speaking to ES Magazine, the catwalk icon said: “I looked a lot different to all the other girls. Everyone was blonde and blue-eyed. It was: ‘This is how you dress. This is how you do your hair, and you put loads of foundation on and wear high heels.’ And I was like, ‘F**k, I don’t even know how to be this person.’
“I felt very unattractive at that school. I based my worth on how many boys fancied me.”
Although the fashion muse used to receive complements from friends of her family, she dismissed the positive remarks because people of her age did not complement her and she didn’t have blonde hair like her pals.
She explained: “And even though back in London my parents’ friends were like: ‘Oh your daughter’s so beautiful, would she like to model?’ that didn’t matter. It was the kids, and the boys, and the fact that I didn’t have blonde hair. That’s all that mattered to me.”
Meanwhile, the Gurls Talk founder – who set up the online platform to encourage people to open up about mental health, their sexuality and addiction – has been asked to speak at school assemblies about her journey.
She said: ” We get a lot of girls writing in and asking if I’ll come and speak at their school and that’s where I want Gurls Talk to be. When we get to a place where we’ve done our groundwork, I’d love it to be part of the academic curriculum.”

And the youngster has revealed the seventies era inspired her latest project.
She said: “My main inspiration was 70s patches, and they really understood my creative vision.”
The fashion house has also taken to social media to share the news and details of the latest merchandise.

Julianne Hough wanted ‘super fresh, radiant’ make-up on her wedding day

OHMYGOSSIP — Julianne Hough wanted her make-up to be “super fresh, radiant, clean and minimal” on her wedding day.
The 28-year-old ‘Dancing With the Stars’ judge tied the knot with NHL star Brooks Laich in an outdoor ceremony on Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on July 8 and the blonde-haired beauty wanted to look “beautiful and timeless” by wearing natural-looking cosmetic products on her special day.
Speaking about the styling process, celebrity make-up artist Spencer Barnes told PEOPLE: “Jules has done so many amazing things with really strong looks on Dancing with the Stars, country music tours, dance tours, as movie characters, and at red carpet events, so she thought, ‘I just want to be super fresh, radiant, clean and minimal. I just want to feel and look beautiful and timeless.'”
And it is believed the ‘Safe Haven’ actress also opted for minimal aesthetic because her spouse prefers her sans make-up.
Barnes added: “Brooks also prefers her with little or no makeup, so he was delighted of course as well to see her just glowing and not so made up.”
Julianne also wanted her hair to be simple, although she toyed with various styles for her marital ceremony and underwent a “big colour change” just before her wedding day.
The star’s hair expert Riawna Capri said: “Her dress was very simple, so for her hair we wanted to do the same. She had this vision from the get-go of a high ballerina bun. She knew she wanted a centre part, which put a little twist on the classic bun. In order to get it to be so perfect we actually did three ponytails. The first was to make sure the center part was perfect. Second was to perfect the sides, and third, we grabbed everything underneath, and then twisted all three together into the bun. That’s the best way to get a perfect pony.
“We also did a big colour change before the wedding – we really went platinum. My first appointment with her was six to seven hours and the last appointment was three hours.
“[But] Julianne’s original idea – this is not a joke – she really wanted to cut her hair short. We went back and forth for about a month about whether or not we’re going to cut her hair right before the wedding. We really wanted it to do it after ceremony, before the reception. Which is doable, totally fine. I’ve done haircuts under pressure. Totally down. She finally comes in for her six-hour colour appointment and we make her hair so beautiful, she’s like, ‘I don’t want to cut this.’
“She’s very hands on with her hair and her make-up so it’s nice to work with her.”
However, the star later changed her hair for the latter part of the ceremony.
Capri explained: “After that dance she was so excited and standing on the chair, which was when we did another hair change and a skirt change. All the girls were gathered around. Anita [Patrickson] helped with the skirt as I was taking out all the bobby pins of her faux bob and pulling her hair down. She was just free in her bodysuit with her long blonde hair down for the rest of the night.
“She knew she wanted her hair up, she knew she wanted the faux bob, and then she knew she wanted it down. At the end of the night she knew she wanted to be free and dance. She likes to call herself a ‘hairographer’…she knows how to do choreography with her hair.”

Joan Smalls hails Brandon Maxwell as an ‘inspiration’

OHMYGOSSIP — Joan Smalls has hailed Brandon Maxwell as an “inspiration”.
The 29-year-old model stars in the Autumn/Winter 2017 womenswear campaign for the 32-year-old fashion designer’s eponymous label, and the brunette beauty has credited the creative mastermind for being a “great designer” who encourages people to “stay true to [their] truth”.
The catwalk icon shared images of her from the commercial, which sees her adorn a v-neck black dress and barely-there stilettos as she is sprawled across the furniture, whilst another photograph captures her up close as she frames her smiling face with her hands.
The style muse posted the pictures on her Instagram account, which she captioned: “@brandonmaxwell Fall/Winter 2017 Campaign. Aside from being a great designer you are an inspiration to stay true to your truth. Thank you handsome #love (sic).”
The fashion mogul has also shared images from the campaign on his social media site, including a short clip of the advert and still images from the commercial.
Brandon posted the same image Joan shared on his photo-sharing page, which read: ” JOAN.
Brandon Maxwell Fall/Winter 2017 Campaign.
#brandonmaxwell #joansmalls (sic).”
Brandon has revealed he “never” planned on creating a “traditional campaign”, but thinks the artistry is an insight into his “world”.
Another clip read: “Introducing the first in a series of six videos for our Fall/Winter 2017 Campaign, Starring @joansmalls
“I’ve never set out to do a traditional campaign. In many ways these projects begin less as a vehicle to sell the clothing and more as a therapeutic exercise to help me gain a deeper understanding of the industry within which I work, maintain some sense of self, and to stay steady on the path in search for something I know to be true. Each season’s campaigns are meant to show my world through my eyes. In this instance it’s the castings, the fittings, the process, the way I see it. A world where the women are cast as much for their brains, personality, and dedication as they are for their beauty. (sic).”
Brandon has thanked models Joan, Andreea Diaconu, Charlee Fraser, Lameka Fox, Maria Borges and Romee Strijd, who appear in the advert, for giving him “strength” to carry on when he most needed the extra boost.
His post continued: “Our Fall/Winter 2017 campaign features six incredible women that I have had the pleasure to get to know and work with on many projects over the years. These are the women that bring our clothes to life. I think it’s important to hear their stories, and to understand that they are more than just what they seem on the runway, and in a way, so are the clothes. They are garments that are meant to be lived in, and that have a purpose. In all of the clothes there is a space left for the woman. The power, the confidence, the unwavering sense of self. In their company, I am somehow able to find strength within myself at the time that I need it the most. (sic).”
