Gwyneth Paltrow to bring Goop to Canada

OHMYGOSSIP — Gwyneth Paltrow is set to launch her brand Goop in Canada.
The 45-year-old actress set up her lifestyle brand in 2008, which started out as a weekly email newsletter advising on how to live healthier, as well as what fitness or beauty products are best to use.
And the ‘Shallow Hal’ star is now expanding her company as she is bringing it to the country, which marks the first time Gwyneth has set up her label outside of America.
Gwyneth – who has daughter Apple, 13, and Moses, 11, with her ex-husband Chris Martin – feels an attachment to Toronto because it was where she shot her “first film” aged 21 years old.
She told Entertainment Tonight Canada: “I was 21 when I shot my first film in Toronto. It was over the course of a gorgeous autumn and I felt a strong connection to the exceptionally leafy and vibrant city. A few years later, my father directed me in a film in Vancouver and I was stunned by the proximity to nature and by the city’s cuisine. Two years ago, on a special trip to Fogo Island, I was able to discover Newfoundland and my love for Canada deepened.”
Goop’s digital shop will sell skincare products, a range of fragrances and clothing, as well as the brand’s limited-edition collection with Christian Louboutin.
And Gwyneth believes her brand’s content is best suited to her Canadian audience, as she believes the customers in the area are on “the same page” as her.
She explained: “Goop content covers a lot of ground: we believe that the little things count, that good food is the foundation of love and wellness, that the mind/body/spirit is inextricably linked, and that it’s better to buy fewer things that are exceptional. And our Canadian readers seem to be on the same page, which is why I’m thrilled that we picked Canada for our first international expansion.”
This news comes a few months after the ‘It’s All Good’ author launched her first physical store in Canada, as part of her partnership with Nordstrom.

Olivia Culpo uses a credit card to achieve the perfect cat eye

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Culpo uses a credit card to achieve the perfect cat eye.
The 25-year-old model has admitted she uses a card or anything with a sharp edge, whether that is a hotel room key or business card, to help her achieve sleek eyeliner, and the star has revealed make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury passed on this trick to her.
Speaking about her beauty hacks at Revolve’s beauty demonstration, which was shared on the brand’s Instagram account in a live story, she said: “So next I’m going to show you guys how I get a cat eye. For the cat eye I have a really interesting trick, which involves a credit card. You can use your hotel room key, your business card or anything with a sharp edge.
“For the cat eye, this is really important to me, for me personally it’s all about balance.”
But before Olivia applies the eyeliner she applies a sweep of nude eyeshadow to her eyelid as a base to then apply the item on top to help it stay.
She explained: “And I don’t like to do any shine or shimmer
“I really want it to be about the flick of the eye.
“BECCA eyeshadow for a base.”
And when Olivia starts her eyeliner she will dab a dot of the liner on the corner of her eyelid where she wants her line to stop.
She said: “So next I’m going to go for it. A liquid eyeliner can be scary. This is my secret to getting eyeliner, which my friend Charlotte Tilbury taught me.
“You do a dot where you want the line to go and then you just match the dot to the other side. Don’t mess up. If you do mess up it’s fine.
“Start with the dot so then you take the credit card to the edge of the eye and you trace to the end of the dot to get your perfect line.
“These edges are the hardest part, so now I am going to go in at the top of the eye at the lash line, but I drag the eye and I just trace the lash line.
“Then basically just keep working to make it as even as possible.
“You want to go to wear the end of your eyebrows are, or should be, and that’s where you want to take the credit card. You want it to be at an angle. It’s really just personal preference.”
However, the catwalk icon has revealed she will avoid applying mascara to her eyelashes when she opts for this trend, but if she does apply the cosmetic product she will only add a sweep to the lashes on the corner of her, but not on the bottom.
The ‘The Other Woman’ actress said: “That’s the biggest secret with my cat eye you don’t want to do bottom lash mascara.
“You want to create a look that is balance and do not do one that takes away from the other.
“You would rarely do a red lip with a cat eye.”

Cyndi Lauper thinks fashion shouldn’t be ‘torture’

OHMYGOSSIP — Cyndi Lauper thinks fashion shouldn’t feel like “torture”.
The 64-year-old singer has collaborated with HSN to release a new clothing line, and the star has revealed the inspiration behind her latest venture was to enoucrgae women to feel “graceful and a little funky” and enjoy styling themselves.
Speaking to Us Weekly about her capsule, the ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ hitmaker said: “I designed clothes for the woman who wants to wear couture.
“Women could have the opportunity to feel tall, graceful and a little funky.”
“Getting dressed shouldn’t feel like torture. Women should be able to feel elegant and funky no matter their size.”
Cyndi’s line includes black wide leg trousers, a red midi dress with fluted sleeves, as well as a black gothic blouse, and she thinks the “elongation of the lines” in her collection and the silhouette shapes will be “very flattering” for the wearer.
She said: “It’s all about the silhouette — the elongation of the lines, which make it very flattering.
“Tailoring is how I view everything,”
The vocalist thinks her range will bring a “whole new world” to the fashion industry.
She added: “It’s going to be a whole new world. When you get dressed, you got to have a party. It should be like there’s a disco ball in your bathroom.”
And Cyndi hopes her creations will empower women of all ages, and encourage them to experiment with their wardrobe staples instead of being made to feel “invisible”.
She said: “Women of a certain age shouldn’t have to go back into the closet and be invisible — my goal is to make women feel they’re still alive with my clothes. I’m a rocker, I know how to do it for goodness sake.”

Kim Kardashian West gradually bleaches her hair to prevent it from falling out

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Kardashian West has to bleach her hair “in stages” to prevent it from falling out.
The 37-year-old reality star has undergone another beauty overhaul as she has dyed her hair platinum blonde, but the ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star has revealed she spent over “13 hours” carrying out the makeover, and the stylist had to gradually colour her locks so her hair did not “break off”.
Speaking about the process on Twitter, Kim – who has four-year-old daughter North, as well as two-year-old son Saint with her rapper husband Kanye West, and is expecting her third child via a surrogate – wrote: “#NewProfilePic
“Spent the last few days bleaching my roots (we do it in stages so it doesn’t break off). OMG 13 hours & still going. (sic).”
Kim has admitted she has found going blonde “very high maintenance”, but she is grateful for her hairdresser Chris Appleton for persevering to get her hair done.
She added: “This blonde is very high maintenance. Love you @ChrisAppleton1 but getting over this. (sic).”
The reality star has had a busy few weeks as she has recently expanded her KKW Beauty range and added a range of Ultra Beam highlighters, as well as glitter lip glosses, and a trio of fragrances to her label.
Kim has also been working on a new eight-part TV series, as she is set to executive produce ‘Glam Masters’ in search for a beauty mogul that will hit Lifetime in February.

The late Azzedine Alaia to be honoured with new exhibition

OHMYGOSSIP — The Design Museum is set to run a five-month fashion exhibition in honour of the late Azzedine Alaia.
The fashion designer tragically passed away on November 18 2017 aged 77, and just weeks after the news of the death the London venue have announced they will curate a showcase titled ‘Azzedine Alaia: The Couturier’ in honour of the creative mastermind.
Before Alaia’s death he had collaborated with curator Mark Wilson to select his best pieces of work to display, and even started documenting his creative methods and process to present in the exhibition.
And the work the mogul had started for the showcase has now been continued by the museum.
According to The Telegraph Online Alaia’s archives will be on show for five months when the exhibition opens on May 10 2018 and will come to an end on October 7, 2018.
And the exhibition is set to include a whopping 60 couture pieces Alaia created, and other items that will depict his “passion and energy for fashion”.
Speaking about the forthcoming project, a spokesperson for The Design Museum said: “Following his untimely passing on 18 November 2017, the Design Museum will now present this unique exhibition planned by Alaïa himself exploring his passion and energy for fashion as he himself intended it to be seen.”
Following Alaia’s path a string of tributes have come flooding in from fellow designers, influencers, as well as models he worked with, including Naomi Campbell.
Speaking previously, the 47-year-old supermodel gushed: “Azzedine was able to transform a woman’s body into something special; make you look great and still like a woman. He captured the essence of femininity. But beyond his work as a designer, from the second day I met him, he became my papa.
“He was the most generous, kind, compassionate and humble man I have ever known, with a mischievous sense of humour in the glint of his eye, and he filled my life – and the lives of the women on this stage, and all of you in the room who met him – with light and joy. I moved into his home at 16 and he opened my eyes to the world: to artists, art and design, architecture, French and Tunisian culture. How blessed was I to have papa show me these different worlds?”

Hayley Hasselhoff feels ’empowered’ in lingerie

OHMYGOSSIP — Hayley Hasselhoff feels “empowered” when she wears lingerie.
The 25-year-old actress and model has stripped off and donned a string of skimpy underwear sets for a photoshoot with SLiNK magazine, and the star has admitted she was not fazed about not covering up because she felt confident in showing off her body and her “flaws”.
Speaking to the publication, the ‘Huge’ star – who is the daughter of David Hasselhoff – said: “Having our cover shoot be in lingerie was a very empowering moment for myself. During this shoot, I was empowered to wear lingerie and love all of my body’s flaws in that moment.”
And Hayley has urged all women to “love” their appearance and do have a deeper appreciation for her body and its functions rather than just the exterior.
She said: “We as women need to love our bodies for all that they give us, not only what they show.”
And though Hayley has encouraged women to embrace their body shape, she has admitted everyone has “moments of doubt” about what they look like, although she just wants people to “rise above” those negative thoughts”.
She added: “We all have moments of doubt in our body but we must rise above and love our bodies for all that they are.
“There’s an importance to having a magazine that sole purpose is centered around body confidence, fashion and curve.”
Meanwhile, Hayley believed the “conception” that plus-sized women are unfit is untrue, and she has hailed fellow curvy catwalk stars as the “most toned and fit” models.
Speaking previously, she said: “People have this conception of plus size models as girls who aren’t fit or don’t work out or don’t really take care of their bodies … are probably the most toned and fit models you’ll see on the runway because they’re so body conscious.”

Kate Winslet does her own hair and make-up for events

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Winslet does her own hair and make-up for red carpet events.
The 42-year-old actress has admitted she “loves” applying beauty products herself as she believes she can perfect her look “fairly quickly” and can avoid the “fuss and faff” of having a stylist “prod” and fiddle with her face.
The ‘The Reader’ star said: “Actually, I love doing my own hair and make-up. Partly because I can do it fairly quickly on my own, but also there are some days when I just don’t like all the fuss and faff that can come with lots of people prodding and fiddling with your face and hair. It’s hard to explain.
“But I’m a pretty low-key, low-maintenance person, and I like to keep life as normal as I can around me. So doing my own make-up is reassuring in that regard. It sort of normalises a red-carpet moment, which – let’s face it – is far from normal.”
But Kate – who has 17-year-old daughter Mia, Joe, 13, and four-year-old Bear – has admitted she also enjoys getting “glammed up” by another person.
She added: “Sometimes it’s lovely to be glammed up like that.
Although the ‘Titanic’ star likes to apply her own beauty products, she has admitted she will “stay away” from certain cosmetic items including eyshadow because she doesn’t feel she is “creative” enough to experiment with the merchandise.
She explained: “So I stick to a light base – Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation in 01 and a bit of Camouflage concealer from the same range. But nothing too heavy, especially round the eyes where make-up can gather and make a person look older.
“I am not very good at eyeshadow so I tend to stay away from being too creative in that area, and I just hit the lashes with a great mascara and an inside root line on the upper lashes, with mascara on a flat brush. Lancôme Grandiôse Mascara in Noir really helps to define the eye.
“I’m a huge fan of eyeliner for a final hit of smudge on the lower lash root only.
“And for lips I would need something that will stay put but be creamy at the same time.”
But Kate insists “decent make-up brushes” make the world of difference when applying make-up, and she has even used paintbrushes before.
She told Vogue.co.uk: “And having decent make-up brushes makes a big difference, I even use paint brushes sometimes! I try to stay away from looking too matt, so not too much powder.”

Romee Strijd didn’t realise Fashion Week was such a ‘big deal’

OHMYGOSSIP — Romee Strijd didn’t realise Fashion Week was such a “big deal”.
The 22-year-old model – who was scouted at 14 years old – graced the runway for major fashion houses including Louis Vuitton and Prada, but the star was not “nervous” about appearing in major catwalk shows because she had underestimated how major the events were.
Speaking to ElleUK.com, she said: “The highlight of my career so far has to be my first fashion week
“When I look back, I didn’t realise what a big deal it was. I did these shows [Louis Vuitton and Prada] and I wasn’t nervous because I wasn’t aware of what was going on. That was good for me. Once you start walking, you just focus on the end of the runway and everything else falls away.”
Romee has since graced the catwalk for lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret, as well as Calvin Klein, Burberry and Balmain, and the one thing Romee strives to do when she is on the platform is to show her personality.
She said: “I like showing my personality on the runway.
“So the Victoria’s Secret show is great for that. And Balmain, because you’re surrounded by powerful women [NataliaVodianova and Natasha Poly both walked in the SS18 show], and [Balmain creative director] Olivier Rousteing encourages you to do what you want. I like to be positive on the runway; it’s nice to smile.”
Romee has revealed she enjoys working out because it comes “naturally” to her, and regardless of how busy her schedule is she will make sure to squeeze some exercise during the day.
She explained: “Working out is something that comes naturally to me.
“If I have only 20 minutes, I do a few jump squats, some lunges, a bit of skipping, ab work, ankle weights, and then finish with a little stretch.
“I like to mix it up because I get bored easily.
“I don’t enjoy cardio, but 25 minutes on the Stair-Master helps you get good bum muscles. I love a barre class, and Pilates is great to stretch it out.”

Maria Grazia Chiuri was ‘surprised’ Dior hired her

OHMYGOSSIP — Maria Grazia Chiuri was “surprised” when she was hired as Dior’s creative director.
The 53-year-old fashion designer took on the role to helm the fashion house in 2016, but the mogul has admitted she was taken aback when the former president and chief executive of the company, Sidney Toledano, offered her the position because she found their first encounter with him difficult and thought it was “strange” he called her later down the line.
Speaking to Interview magazine about her title, she said: “I was surprised. I met Mr. Toledano many years ago, and I was surprised I was offered the job because our first meeting wasn’t very easy. I actually said, ‘Oh, that’s strange that you’re calling me again.’
“He told me that he would like to speak with me again, and I decided to be very clear with him about my point of view on the Dior house and on fashion. So I said, ‘I would like to join Dior, because it’s a big opportunity, but we have to be able to think about the brand in a different way.’
“When I arrived and began to understand how huge the brand is, I said, ‘Oh my god…’ But I found it so exciting, and I put all my passion and creativity to work for the brand.”
And Maria feels it is a “big responsibility” being the first female to lead the creative team in almost 70 years.
She said: “It feels like a big responsibility. When I started to be interested in fashion, when I started to study fashion, it was different– we used fashion to express ourselves, to enjoy it. But now everything moves so much faster in fashion, and I don’t want to impose anything on women. I want women to find themselves. I want to support women in trying to find pieces that they really like that they believe really work with their spirit.”
Maria has relocated to France since being named the creative director, but she was not fazed about moving because she considers herself “a little bit of a crazy woman” and wanted to test herself.
Asked whether she was apprehensive about changing her address, she said: “I was not scared because I’m a little bit of a crazy woman. I’m 53 – I want to test myself. I might be wrong, but that’s okay. I think it’s important to take risks.”

Cardi B collaborates with Steve Madden on a new shoe line

OHMYGOSSIP — Cardi B has teamed up with Steve Madden for a new footwear line.
The 25-year-old rapper has collaborated with the 59-year-old fashion designer – who launched his eponymous company in 1990 – on a new shoe collection titled Cardi B x Steve Madden.
And the ‘Bodak Yellow’ hitmaker has admitted she is honoured to work with the businessman because she has always been a fan of Steve’s designs and even when she was a “little girl” she “loved” his creations and would do anything for a pair of his shoes.
Speaking to Refinery29 about her latest venture, Cardi – whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar – said: “I’ve loved Steve Madden since I was a little girl. Back then, I died for a pair of Steve Madden shoes. I love how [his shoes are] affordable but [still such] great quality. Every girl can’t afford ‘bloody shoes,’ so I like that I can partner with a shoe company many girls can afford.”
And Steve is also happy to have partnered with Cardi on the upcoming capsule, because he thinks she can pull off “so many looks.”
He said: “She has so many looks, she’s adorable. She can go casual in a sneaker or really dress up a heel or boot.”
Steven continued to hail Cardi as the “hottest rapper” in the US.
He added: “[Cardi] is the hottest rapper in America.”
Cardi has since shared imagery from the campaign on social media.
Alongside a photograph of her sporting thigh high, patent boots, with fishnet tights, a black dress and a red fur jacket , which was posted on her Instagram account, she wrote: ” It’s the Holidays .Get you some @stevemadden thigh highs (sic).”
The ‘MotorSport’ artist has also shared a video in partnership with the mogul, in which she gives “daily” style tips.
Speaking in the footage, she said: “alright
“Now every woman needs to have a pointy shoe.”

Cyndi Lauper once dyed her hair with food colouring

OHMYGOSSIP — Cyndi Lauper once dyed her hair with green food colouring.
The 64-year-old singer has acknowledged she has experimented with her locks “quite a bit” over the years, and on one occasion she added a few drops of the additive to her tresses so they would match the colour of her dress she wore to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
Speaking about her beauty hacks to Allure Online, she said: “I’ve done quite a bit. I started with green. [It was] St. Patrick’s Day [and] I wanted my hair to match with my dress so I went with a food colour. I’ve had all different colours.”
Although Cyndi likes her blonde hair she started to experiment with different shades because she felt her hair was “plain”, although when she underwent the drastic makeover she felt like a “freakazoid”.
She explained: “In 2015, I had blonde hair and I thought it was good [but after a while] I thought it was plain, so I went to the store and bought Manic Panic, which is always my go-to [hair-dye brand]. They have a lot of colours and you can always mix and match [them]. I got ‘Cotton Candy Pink’ which is different now. I got my hair really light pink [before] I had to go on TV and then I realised nobody had coloured hair. It was just that moment when nobody had coloured hair at all, so I was a little freakish. I just pretended like I was normal and there was nothing different about me at all. I didn’t know what else to do. I felt like a freakazoid.”
The ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ hitmaker currently sports candyfloss pink-coloured hair, but she recently wanted to dye it blue instead because she felt she was at the “right age” to opt for that shade, although she swiftly changed her mind.
She explained: “I wanted to change it to blue because I felt like hey, it’s the right age, aren’t I supposed to have blue hair? I was going to change it but then I saw the great Women’s March in January [2017] and I realised [the marketing] was the same colour as my hair and that I should never change the colour of my hair — [at least] not now, just to keep solidarity.”

Kate Winslet discusses ‘bad’ beauty blunders

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Winslet has had her fair share of “bad” hair moments on the red carpet.
The 42-year-old actress insists she has “definitely” had a number of beauty blunders when she has been at a star-studded bash, but she thinks when something goes wrong with her make-up it is a lot easier to cover up than an issue with her long locks.
When asked if she has had any style faux pas in an interview with Vogue.co.uk, the ‘Titanic’ star said: “Now that would be telling. I have definitely had some bad red-carpet hair moments which somehow are more noticeable than make-up disasters I think.
“And I’ve had some clothing disasters too. Last-minute zips breaking, tripping on a hem, discovering that a black outfit is actually slightly see-through under a flash bulb. Or just choosing to wear a bad dress. It happens.”
And while there have been make-up issues, Kate has “always” had someone nearby “save” from any embarrassment.
She said: “And I’ve definitely had the occasional false eye lash fall onto my cheek, but luckily a well-meaning person has always saved me and flicked away the offending lash before a photographer spots the straggler on my cheek! Can you imagine? Hilarious.”
But the ‘The Mountain Between Us’ star is not fazed by any style issues, as she believes life is “too short to worry” and she thinks health is more important than her appearance.
Kate – who has 17-year-old daughter Mia, Joe, 13, and four-year-old Bear – added: “And life is too short to worry about it.
“Honestly, I have learned that health comes before reaching for a mirror or a bottle of product.”
Kate believes as she has grown up she looks in the mirror “less and less” than ever before, although she has admitted when she was in her twenties she was undoubtedly more concerned about her looks.
The ‘The Reader’ beauty continued: “And if anything, I do look in the mirror less and less as I get older. In my twenties I probably thought about my appearance more than I do now, for the simple reason that as I get older I have more important things that concern me than how I look. Like family, happiness, and having fun! Priority kicks in when you are a parent and my approach to beauty these days comes from a place of wanting to feel happy and healthy. Plus I know that I feel my most beautiful when I feel like I am being a good mum, and when I am doing my best in my job and in loving my family. If I look after myself first and can look after everyone else even better. And that is something I have only been able to learn with age.”

Jil Sander wants to empower people with her brand

OHMYGOSSIP — Jil Sander wanted to empower people with her designs.
The 74-year-old fashion designer – who launched her eponymous label in 1968 – has “never” considered herself to be a “feminist”, even though her motivation to create clothes was to make the customer feel “strong”.
Speaking to Vogue.co.uk, she said: “I never thought of myself as a feminist, but maybe I was, since I was not happy with the way women presented themselves. I think my work was more about the rapprochement of the sexes and a more androgynous look for men and women. I was looking for more supportive ways to dress myself as a working woman. And since my needs were collective needs in the era of women entering the business world, my work turned out to help them.
“We had to give a lot of strength to women and give them the power that men knew. It was the start of globalisation, we were travelling, and needed clothes to feel strong.”
And Jil – whose full name is Heidemarie Jiline Sander – also felt it was “very important” for her to give “class, quality and personality” in her garments.
She said: “I needed the strength and the energy, and also for me it was very important to give class, quality and personality to clothing. It was a time when women had to ask their husbands if they could work, or if they could get a driver’s license.”
Although Jil has hinted she struggled setting up her company, she believes inner strength was the key to get her through.
She explained: “I’m maybe not a feminist, but I was quite young when I started, nothing was easy and I always said you need a lot of strength to do what you want to do when you have a vision and want to build a company. So I always believed in strong women. I’m not a feminist, but I was looking for strong personality.
“Women have to be strong. And we have to support women so that they are able to be in important, responsible jobs. I was always a believer in both, and with my company, I thought women and men needed to work together. I think a woman’s situation is much more open today. It has changed a lot. There is still a lot of need but we have to be optimistic and move forward.”

Shanina Shaik’s fiancé steals her tweezers

OHMYGOSSIP — Shanina Shaik’s fiancé steals her tweezers.
The 26-year-old model has admitted her partner DJ Ruckus – whose real name is Gregory Andrews – may not nab her skincare or cosmetic products, but she has revealed he often dips his hands in to her beauty bag to get his hands on her Tweezerman tweezers to pluck out any stray or ingrown hairs.
When asked about the item her beau takes from her to PEOPLE, she said: “My Tweezerman tweezers for any stubborn ingrown hairs.”
But the Victoria’s Secret model has revealed she revealed she relies on Maybelline’s Great Lash mascara, which she has been using for “too many years” because it “really extends” her eyelashes.
Asked about her beauty must-haves, she said: “I’ve been using Maybelline mascara for too many years to count. It always creates a beautiful lash and really extends the lashes.”
Shanina also relies on Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Match Stix concealer, which she applies under her eye to hide any blemishes or dark circles, as well as NARS velvet matte lip pencil in Dolce Vita shade.
She continued: “I use it for any blemishes and under-eye concealer. It looks so natural on my skin.
“[The lip pencil] it’s the best natural lip stain.”
Shanina has insisted her and DJ Ruckus “rarely” co-ordinate their outfits as she is keen for both her and her partner to have their “own unique style”.
She said: “Greg and I rarely coordinate and I don’t think we need to. We encourage one another to have our own unique style.”
However, Shanina will bend that rule slightly and wear an outfit to match DJ Ruckus “only” when they attend a star-studded bash together.
She added: “The only time we do coordinate an outfit style is if we attend an event together.”

Thandie Newton forced herself to be ‘really good’ at styling hair

OHMYGOSSIP — Thandie Newton has become “really good” with styling hair.
The 45-year-old actress has revealed she started relaxing her dark tresses when she was a teenager because there were “no products” to help her manage her locks when she was growing up that straightening her hair was the easiest option for her.
The ‘Westworld’ star told Refinery29: “My father has very fine blonde hair, and my mother has much thicker, denser, curlier hair. I had been relaxing since I was 16. Where I grew up on the coast of England, there were no Black people and there were no products; I straightened it because it was easier to take care of.”
But the star – who has daughters Ripley, 16, Nico, 13, and three-year-old son Booker with her husband Oliver ‘Ol’ Parker – has found going to the salon too much hassle, which is why she has decided to revert back to curly hair and has forced herself to get better at styling her locks “out of necessity”.
She added: “Out of necessity, I’ve become really good with hair, as most women with colour are… because when you go to the hairdresser, it’s a fricking nightmare. Then my girls were born with curly hair and I was able to manage [their] hair really well and I thought, ‘Maybe I could get back to what I’ve got’. That was about eight years ago. I’ve got my curly hair, and I can still blow it out whenever I want.”
And though Thandie finds going to a hairdresser a “nightmare” she loves how “women of colour” are so open and discuss any topic when they are styling another person’s hair.
She continued: “And you know something else? I just love how women of colour share with each other while doing each others’ hair. There’s this bonding and closeness that comes as a result. The conversations that happen when your back is getting hot between another woman’s thighs. These rituals allow us to get rid of the stressors that I was talking about before. I love doing my girls’ hair. It’s 45 minutes where we’re together and talking.”

Iman thinks big gowns overwhelm her ‘Somali body’

OHMYGOSSIP — Iman disliked “big gowns” because she thought they “overwhelmed” her “Somali body”.
The 62-year-old model – whose real name is Zara Mohamed Abdulmajid – used to think she couldn’t “pull off” extravagant dresses with large skirting because she felt being “very small boned” and having a slender frame would make the garment look ill fitting.
She told Harper’s Bazaar Online: “I’ve always told him [Giambattista Valli] jokingly, ‘I’m not Sarah Jessica Parker.’ I’m much taller than she is, but somehow she pulls off these huge gowns effortlessly. I don’t like big gowns. I have a Somali body; we’re very small-boned, so things can overwhelm me.”
But when Iman received the Fashion Icon Lifetime achievement honour at the CFDA Fashion Awards in 2010, she called on the 51-year-old designer to create a “timeless” ensemble for her to wear for the prestigious bash.
Iman – who has 17-year-old daughter Alexandria with her late spouse David Bowie and 39-year-old Zulekha with her ex-husband Spencer Haywood – said: “I was in a car coming home from the airport in 2010 when Diane von Furstenberg called me and said, ‘Darling, the CFDA has nominated you.’ And I’m like, ‘For what? I’m not a designer.’ And she said, ‘The Fashion Icon Award. It was unanimous.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m honoured.’ Then automatically I was like, ‘What the hell am I going to wear?’
“Giambattista [Valli] had sent me a couple of dresses for other events, and beautiful as they were, they took up the entire room.
“When I was nominated I contacted Giambattista, and he sent some pictures, and I was like, ‘This is the dress!’ When you know, you know. So he sent the dress to me in New York, and I had a lot of fittings; we were still tweaking it at the very last minute. I wanted this dress to be like it was cut for me. You see some celebrities on the red carpet, and the dress is way too long, and you think, ‘Why didn’t anyone hem it?’ It’s one of those things someone in fashion knows. I could walk in this dress; it was easy. I wore it with a classic black satin Manolo Blahnik heel. I also wanted my hair and makeup to transcend time. That’s why I chose a chic chignon. I didn’t want any lip, just a little bit of a smoky eye.
“And I don’t want to wear something that I’m worried about how to walk in all night.
“I knew I wanted something that would transcend time, that nobody could ever put a date on. I didn’t want a colour, so if you look at a black-and-white picture it could have been 1950. It had to be couture and have a presence but feel timeless and iconic”.
