Tommy Hilfiger calls for more sustainability in fashion

OHMYGOSSIP — Tommy Hilfiger has urged the fashion industry to “do the right thing” and embrace “sustainability”.
The 68-year-old designer has warned that brands won’t survive beyond the next two or three years if they don’t start adopting a more eco-conscious approach to manufacture.
He said: “I think that we have to as an industry do the right thing for society. And I really believe that upcycling and recycling, making fabrics out of plastics and cleaning the oceans is our duty to the world and to ourselves. Sustainability is something that every brand has to embrace.
“Because in two to three years if a brand is not sustainable, it will be out of business…
“I really believe that there are some businesses and some companies that are awake and some that are not. We are very woke.”
For the new TommyXLewisXH.E.R. capsule collection, over 75 per cent of the range “features sustainable elements” and the designer explained his approach to denim, shunning the typical dying process which uses thousands of litres of water for just one pair of jeans.
He said: “All of the denim is sustainable, recycled, upcycled, we’re washing with lasers instead of water, we’ve been doing it for over five years.”
And the brand are planning to make even more changes to help the environment.
Tommy added in an interview with the Independent.co.uk: “We’re also looking at different ways of everything from packaging to using recycled yarns to using vintage and upcycling a lot of what would normally go to landfill.
“So, it’s a big project but we would like to be leaders in it and we’re taking it very seriously.”
In September 2016, the brand adopted a see-now-buy-now business model and though it’s required some major changes, Tommy is proud of how successful it’s been.
He said: “It is very complicated to do, because you have to change your entire way of doing business, your entire design calendar, supply chain, but we’ve had great success with it.
“People want immediate gratification. They see it on the runway, they want to buy it and wear it the next day. They don’t want to wait six months. By the time six months goes by, they may be tired of it, they may have moved onto something else.
“So, my philosophy has been to always listen to the consumer.”

The ‘Truth Hurts’ hitmaker turned heads in the unusual ensemble and pretended to a take a bite out of a chocolate bar purse as she arrived on the red carpet at The O2 in London on Tuesday night (18.02.20).
The US superstar is nominated for the International Female Solo Artist gong, where she will battle it out against Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, and Lana Del Rey.
The ‘Juice’ singer will also take to the stage later tonight.
Lizzo is known for making a statement on the red carpet.
In November, she took a tiny Valentino bag to the American Music Awards.
The ‘Good As Hell’ hitmaker held the accessory between her thumb and forefinger as she walked the red carpet.
Speaking on the red carpet, she revealed: “It’s a Valentino bag. It’s custom; there’s only three in the world,” before joking: “It’s got tampons in here, a flask of tequila and condoms.”
The ‘Soulmate’ star previously opened up about her fashion journey and revealed she loves “beautiful things” and sees fashion as an expression of her “beauty”.
She shared: “I’m also just grateful for my journey and to remember that I was once only able to wear Dressbarn and now I’m wearing diamond thongs. So, fashion is a journey of self-discovery … I’ve always admired beautiful things and I’ve been a fan of beauty my whole life. I think I’ve had the opportunity to have my own definition of beauty and I think that fashion is just an extension of your personal relationship with beauty.”

Harry Styles had yellow suit wish

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles had wanted to wear a yellow suit “for a long time” before the BRIT Awards.
The 26-year-old singer walked the red carpet at London’s O2 on Tuesday (18.02.20) wearing a brown Gucci two-piece and purple jumper before changing into a custom lace Gucci jumpsuit for his performance during the show, and switching outfits again afterwards to don a vivid marigold Marc Jacobs ensemble for the rest of the evening and his final look had been something that had been in the works for a long time.
His stylist, Harry Lambert, told British Vogue: “For the past few seasons I have been really keen to get Harry into some of Marc’s ready-to-wear and, coincidentally, Harry has been talking about wearing a yellow suit for some time.
“The moment I saw the marigold suit on the Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2020 runway, I knew we had to get it.
“Marc and his team have been great, and I think all their hard work is really going to pay off. It’s rock ‘n’ roll, with a touch of British camp.”
And the unique outfit Harry wore for his emotional performance of ‘Falling’ had also been planned for several months.
The stylist added: “Alessandro [Michele] and Gucci are a dream to collaborate with. We have had the performance look for around six months, and during the first fitting we could all tell that it was really special.
“We decided to keep it aside for the right moment. When it was confirmed that Harry would be performing ‘Falling’ for the first time at the Brit Awards, there was no question that this was the moment we had been waiting for.
“Harry is an energetic performer and it’s vital that his look doesn’t restrict him from dancing and having fun.
“A red-carpet look is just as important as the performance one and both should feel memorable, fun, and sexy.”
Harry also teased that fans should expect to see costumes like one of his client’s BRITs outfits when the ‘Sign of the Times’ hitmaker heads out on tour – but refused to say which.
He teased: “Tailoring has been an important part of Harry’s wardrobe for some time now. We’ve never been afraid to experiment with silhouette, and tonight is no exception.
“We have definitely been teasing elements of the tour wardrobe for a while now, and one of tonight’s looks is a taste of things to come… but I’m not going to tell you which one.”

Audrina Patridge has lip fillers

OHMYGOSSIP — Audrina Patridge has had non-surgical lip fillers.
The 34-year-old reality star is “so happy” with the results of the procedure and is fronting a campaign for the Juvederm injectable filler, which encourages people to express themselves and create a look that is “uniquely yours”.
Alongside a photo of herself wearing a wide-brimmed black hat, she wrote on Instagram: “Being on television has taught me to live my life unapologetically and do what’s right for me, regardless of what others may think. That’s why I’m excited to partner with @Juvederm Lips on their campaign that’s all about self-expression and curating a look that is uniquely yours.
“I recently had my lips treated with JUVÉDERM(r) VOLBELLATM XC and am so happy with the results!(sic)”
Audrina decided to have the fillers because she has always “overlined” her lips but was keen for the results to be “subtle”.
She told HollywoodLife.com: “I’ve always been one to overline my lips and a lot of my friends and people that I know are always so happy with their results so I decided to get mine done. I met with my provider, we talked about all my concerns, I told her I wanted a subtle, pouty natural look. I didn’t want them to look too plump.”
The ‘Hills’ star also explained how she maintains her slender physique.
She said: “I’m obsessed with Lightning Fit. It’s EMS training, so it’s a 25-minute workout that’s equal to three hours of working out and you burn 720 calories. I do that once or twice a week. It’s a full-body workout. A lot of Victoria’s Secret models do it before the show.”
And Audrina tries to eat “really clean”.
She said: “I eat really clean and I eat plant-based foods. I eat fish, lots of vegetables, rice, and pasta. I’m very balanced when it comes to nutrition.
“For breakfast, I have an omelette, I eat a lot of eggs or avocado toast. For lunch, I’ll have a chicken or salmon salad, and for dinner, I’ll have salmon. I love fish, so salmon with rice or vegetables or a veggie stir fry.”

Celeste loves Gucci’s energy

OHMYGOSSIP — Celeste loves the “energy” of Gucci.
The 25-year-old singer walked the red carpet at Tuesday’s (18.02.20) BRIT Awards at The O2 in London wearing a bead and pearl-encrusted shirt dress from the fashion house and she’s a big fan of the “romance” of the brand.
Her stylist, Ella Lucia, said: “Gucci has a particular energy that suits Celeste.
“The romance of the brand chimes with her music and the themes she explores in her lyrics. They both like talking about love!”
Celeste’s dress was teamed with black lace gloves and platform shoes, bee earrings and a black and red bag, which her stylist explained was designed to “cut through the classicism and mix up the decades.”
For her performance of ‘Strange’ during the ceremony, Celeste changed into a black ballgown with long ruffled train and puffball sleeves, which was created in collaboration with surrealist brand WED.
Ella told British Vogue: “The WED look is really dramatic, and a touch gothic. It encompasses the dark emotion, but still looks timeless.”
Ahead of the release of ‘Strange’, Celeste previously explained she had worn black for weeks in order to get into the “weird but heartfelt” headspace of the track’s lyrics.
She said: “Fashion is not just putting clothes on for me. It’s about creating a look to suit the character and the mood of my music.”
The ‘Lately’ singer has always been a fan of retro beauty looks.
She previously said: “I’ve always done a heavy cat-eye flick, and experimented with different beehives and fringes.
“A lot of the boys I hung out with were into ’60s style, so we used to live in a fantasy world, listening to the kind of music we thought suited us inside…
“It’s funny, because when I was 14 my hair was so unruly I put 10 clips down one side to hold it in position. I never thought the slicked-down styles of the ’40s and ’50s were possible with an afro, but now I think I’ve got the hang of it – with a kiss curl, too.”

Tan France taught Alexa Chung how to wear a bra

OHMYGOSSIP — Tan France had to teach Alexa Chung how to properly wear her bra.
The 36-year-old model was wearing her underwear in the wrong position when the television presenter, also 36, corrected her fashion mistake by demonstrating how to fit it.
Explaining what to wear when you have a large bust, Alexa asked Tan: “Do you want me to talk about when you taught me how to wear my bra?”
She then told Stylist magazine: “He came over to me and went, ‘You know you’re wearing your bra wrong?’ I was like, ‘No…’ Then he did it up where it should be and my boobs were like … Actually can you do it again? Show her!”
The ‘Queer Eye’ star – who hosts ‘Next In Fashion’ with Alexa – held on to the beauty’s bra straps and described: “Look, right now I can fit a whole two fists [between the strap and the shoulder]; you should be able to fit two fingers in there. That’s going to lift your boobs into a position where it’s not going to give you back problems. Look! Such a difference.”
However, the ‘It’s On with Alexa Chung’ star was surprised when Tan pointed out her fashion mistake, as she claims no one likes to discuss her style.
She admitted: “People like to pretend clothes don’t exist near me. No one’s ever said I look nice.”
Whereas her co-star has the opposite problem and everyone expects him to give them some style advice.
When asked about his fashion dilemma, he replied: “Mine is this: everybody when they meet me now expects me to comment on their outfit.”
Though, the fashion expert is too occupied with his own clothing ensemble to notice others around him.
He continued: “I don’t care what you’re wearing! I’m so consumed with WTF I’m wearing I didn’t even notice you had a head!”

Taylor Hill still pinches herself after walking in Fashion Week

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Hill has admitted she pinches herself after walking in Fashion Week when she was just 15.
The 23-year-old model first walked the catwalk when she was a teenager, but is amazed she found her way into the industry and landed the superstar gig.
Speaking in a video clip for Vogue, Taylor said: “Fashion week is fun, I love Fashion Week. I’ve been doing Fashion Week since I was too young to probably do it. I think I was 15 when I did my first season … Sometimes I can’t believe I get to do it, and I pinch myself because how the heck did I end up in this industry and going to something like Fashion Week. It’s insane.”
Since her teens, the Victoria’s Secret Angel has risen to star in shows across the world, and even walked the Versace runway, much to Donatella’s delight.
Taylor added: “I used to be the Versace fit model, and they would sew the clothes on my body. I went in in one of the looks and I blacked out because it was a very exciting moment for me.
“I’m pretty sure Donatella Versace made me cry. She was like, ‘Oh this is your look in the show, I’m so excited to have you in my show this year.'”
What’s more, her role has helped the model become an early bird as she enjoys waking up at the break of dawn to walk for her favourite fashion brands.
She explained: “I love sitting in hair and makeup. The joke was that you can hear Taylor before you see her. I will walk in at six o’clock in the morning, so ready and so excited.
“You are a morning person when you’re 17 and walking for Ralph Lauren or Alexander McQueen. You just wake up ready to go like, ‘I can’t believe I’m here, I’m at Alexander McQueen, let’s do this!’ And everyone’s like, ‘Taylor has arrived, I can hear here.'”

Luke Evans: People should wear ‘whatever’ they want

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Evans thinks people should feel free to wear “whatever” they want.
The 40-year-old actor has said he feels “inspired” by people who break down boundaries to wear whatever makes them happy, regardless of gender roles, and believes “masculinity” isn’t defined by “whether you have black or pink hair”.
When asked about men who break gender boundaries with fashion, he said: “I think it’s very cool, but it’s not new. Rock stars have been painting their fingernails black for ages; in the New Romantic era, men wore more make-up than women and had topped their hair even higher. When men do something like that, I think it’s great. It sends the message out into the world that masculinity does not depend on whether you have black or pink hair. […] You have this one life and this one chance to be yourself. If that means you want to wear a dress, do that. Who gives a s**t?”
And the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ star says the item of clothing isn’t as important as “how” it is worn.
He added: “Whatever men and women wear is increasingly accepted, no matter what their sexuality or image is. That inspires me. Our culture allows that today. Masculinity does not depend on what you wear, but how you wear it. However you dress, that’s just a fact, but not a problem.”
Luke’s fitting rule even applies to suits, which he is known to be a fan of.
When asked about his rules for suits, he told GQ Germany: “Rule number one: be sure that your suit is properly fitted. And really good. If you have a good figure, the suit should also show that. It mustn’t look like a box. A well-fitting suit can be very sexy.
“A bad cut is the worst. The suit just has to fit. Men also often choose the wrong shoes for a suit. The colour has to match. ”

Lucy Hale loves ‘casual’ clothes

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Hale loves wearing “casual” clothes.
The former ‘Pretty Little Liars’ star has revealed that whilst she adores the colour pink, she doesn’t wear much of it as she prefers neutral tones that suit her “casual” and “laidback” approach to fashion.
She said: “I feel like your wardrobe and how you dress every day says so much about who you are. I love pink, but I don’t wear a lot of it. I’m way more casual, way more laidback, and I probably never wear heels.”
Lucy has recently started starring as the titular character in The CW show ‘Katy Keene’ – which is a spin-off of teen drama ‘Riverdale’ – and says the character’s sense of style is vastly different from her own.
The 30-year-old actress added to InStyle magazine: “Stepping into Katy’s clothes helps me become her. Once you watch the show, you see her personality, you see the clothes, and you’re like, ‘That makes so much sense.’
“Katy is always in a skirt and heels, just running around the city. Every time we’re filming outside, I’m literally the only one wearing pink, while everyone’s in a black trench coat and flats.”
Meanwhile, Lucy previously spoke about the fashion choices of each of her characters when she mentioned her ‘Pretty Little Liars’ character Aria Montgomery, who liked to experiment with her wardrobe.
She said: “There’s something so great about beauty that actually makes you feel like a different person sometimes. Like with [Pretty Little Liars character] Aria, obviously, she was really creative with her wardrobe, and even with her makeup too. Out of the four [main characters], I think makeup was her thing. At one point, she even had pink stripes in her hair, so that can definitely make you feel differently.”
And in her own beauty routine, Lucy prefers a lighter makeup look for day-to-day, wearing a tinted moisturiser instead of a foundation because she doesn’t want her make-up to look “too much”.
She explained: “I love a good tinted moisturiser, because foundation can be too much, but sometimes you need a little help.”

Serena Williams’ style icon

OHMYGOSSIP — Serena Williams’ style icon is Jennifer Lopez.
The tennis star is a huge fan of the ‘Hustlers’ star and loves her wardrobe and style and is hoping she looks like the singer and actress when she is 50-years-old.
She said: “I think right now, you can’t think of style and not think of Jennifer Lopez. She’s just a little bit ridiculous and beyond amazing. She’s always been stylish. I mean, I can’t wait to be her age because I want to look like that.”
The 38-year-old tennis star has just launched her new S by Serena collecting, which is showing during New York Fashion Week, and she is “obsessed” with it.
Speaking about her own collection, she added: “We’ve been working on this for a long time. So we’re ready, it feels good. We experimenting with fabrics. There’s always evolving in the collection. I would say each collection is different. This one … we’re using different fabrics, we’re experimenting with vegan leather, we’re thinking about lots of more sustainability, and issues that’s really important to me. We’re still dabbling a little bit in sequins [and] we’re still experimenting with shoulder pads. I’m obviously obsessed with it.”
Serena also opened up about her two-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. – who she shares with entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian – and her love for fashion.
She shared to E! News: “I can’t force her out of a princess dress. he gets so upset. She loves fashion, she loves wearing dresses and that’s what she wants to do.”
Meanwhile, Serena previously revealed her daughter already judges her fashion looks.
When asked if Olympia will wear anything from the line, Serena said: “Well, we got her a small version of our iconic heart. But other than that, no. They’re mine. Fall back, right now. Not yet. In due time. I do wonder what that’s going to be like when she’s a little bit older. I have no idea. We’ll see. I can’t wait. So far, she’s been wearing my heels, so I’m like, ‘She’s going to be in fashion!’ I could’ve sworn today, she looked at me, and she was like, ‘Gee, gah, yeah.’ I was like, ‘You like what mommy’s wearing today?’ When I come out sometimes, she’s like, ‘Oohh! Ma!'”

Debbie Harry’s functional fashion

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie Harry’s favourite outfits have to be “functional”.
The Blondie frontwoman has always loved getting “dressed up” in different outfits but she feels she has “got a bit smarter”.
Speaking about her own style, she said: “For me, it’s always been about function.
“I love fashion, and I love getting dressed up – I always have, even as a little girl – but I’ve gotten a bit smarter over the years.”
And the 74-year-old singer didn’t understand body types growing up, and was taught by New York designer Stephen Sprouse about how to dress for your shape and it revolutionised her life.
She added: “Up until then, I wasn’t even aware of body type – I just thought, ‘Oh, that’s pretty, I’ll wear that,’ and not realising that it’s not really going to look good. I just thought that if the dress looks good, then it doesn’t matter who it’s on, but he taught me things that were really important for my particular body type.”
Debbie loves “looking forward” when it comes to fashion and says the people she finds most interesting are “scary and abnormal”.
She shared to Vogue magazine: “I’ve never been one to dwell in the past. I think a lot of people feel they like nostalgia because it makes them feel comfortable.
“I like it to a certain degree, but I really love looking forward. That’s always been my favourite thing. I think over the years, what I’ve noticed is that the people that I find most interesting are often, to a lot of people, scary and abnormal.”

Simone Biles slams toxic beauty culture

OHMYGOSSIP — Simone Biles has slammed the “toxic” culture of beauty competition.
The US gymnast has hit out at beauty standards and admits there were many times where she felt criticised for the way she looks or what she wears.
In an open letter posted on her Instagram account, she shared: “Let’s talk about competition. Specifically, the competition I didn’t sign up for and feel like has become almost a daily challenge for me. And I do not think I’m the only one. There is a growing competition that has nothing to do with performance itself. I’m talking about beauty. I don’t know why but others feel as though they can define your own beauty based on their standards. I’ve learned to put on a strong front and let most of it slide. But I’d be lying if I told you that what people say about my arms, my legs, my body … of how I look like in a dress, leotard, bathing suit or even in casual pants hasn’t gotten me down at times. Today, I say I am done competing vs. beauty standards and the toxic culture of trolling when others feel as though their expectations are not met … because nobody should tell you or I what beauty should or should not look like. Beauty is #NoCompetition. (sic)”
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old sportswoman previously revealed her personal style is very “basic” for the time being and she is still trying to “establish” her own look.
Speaking about her fashion choices, she said: “My personal style is very basic just because I’m in the gym a lot. So it’s athletic, sporty, but still fun. I like dressing up but I feel like it’s also very basic. I haven’t established my style yet, or what I like. I kind of do whatever. But I also feel like living in Houston, it’s a little bit different. I can be more out there if I go to Los Angeles or New York because things are more acceptable.”

Alexa Chung’s wardrobe essentials

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexa Chung thinks black tailored trousers and a white shirt are wardrobe essentials.
The ‘Next in Fashion’ star believes the two pieces of clothing are staples that everyone should have in their wardrobe as you can take a “360 spin on the rest of it”.
She said: “Invest in a pair of black, well-tailored trousers. Then wear them with everything else in your wardrobe: a jumper, a shirt, a T-shirt. I only know this because recently I bought a pair of Bella Freud black tux pants – wide leg, normal height with velvet down the side – and they literally go with everything. I was like, wow, this is amazing! It’s finding that one thing and then doing a 360 spin on the rest of it. I also think a white shirt goes a long way. So buy the classics. It’s a white shirt, it’s a black pant.”
And the 36-year-old model and television presenter is really into vintage clothing.
She added: “I live by a Traid [charity shop], and that’s really good. If you buy something vintage, you’re donating to charity and also giving somebody’s discarded thing a second life. A lot of fashion is informed and inspired by vintage anyway. It’s a treasure hunt.”
Alexa is particularly keen on vintage denim and says 70s denim is the “dream”.
She shared to Stylist magazine: “Denim used to be so much better than it is now so I go to a vintage or thrift store. It’s an annoying process but one day you will find the perfect pair. Remember with vintage denim, you’re four sizes bigger than you think you are; I’m 25 in modern denim but in vintage I’m a 29 or 30 waist. Levi’s vintage with an orange tab is always really good; 70s denim is the dream.”

Cynthia Erivo’s regal look

OHMYGOSSIP — Cynthia Erivo felt “like a queen” at the Oscars.
The 33-year-old actress walked the red carpet at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre in a stunning white Atelier Versace gown before changing into a golden Vera Wang dress for her performance of her Best Original Song nominated track ‘Stand Up’, and then back into a different Versace outfit for the after parties and she felt incredibly special for the whole night.
She told Vogue.com: “Last night was proof that dreams do come true. I felt like a queen.
“Of course, to attend the Oscars in a custom Versace dress and perform in a custom Vera Wang dress was the icing on the cake.”
Cynthia cried when she donned her first dress of the evening.
Her make-up artist, Terrell Mullin, told Bustle: “She felt absolutely gorgeous. Luckily, we were able to fight back tears when the look was complete.”
Terrell opted for a classic old Hollywood beauty look, featuring a brown smoky eye, big lashes and nude lip.
The cosmetics expert said: “This is her night, so we wanted her beauty [look] to complement her natural beauty and radiant skin.

To complete the look, Terrell used the Eyes To Kill Eye Quattro Eye Shadow palette in 2, blending the darkest shade into the crease.
