Janelle Monae loves Christian Louboutin’s art

OHMYGOSSIP — Janelle Monae thinks Christian Louboutin shoes are “true art”.
The ‘Hidden Figures’ actress “most memorable” red carpet outfits have typically involved footwear from the designer as she knows they will always be a “conversation piece”.
She said: “I’ve worn Louboutins to so many of my most memorable red carpet moments.
“For the past two years at the Met Ball, I’ve worn my favourite silhouette of his, the platform wedge. I love that, even with as bold a look as [our collaboration with] Christian Siriano, a shoe designed by Louboutin is still a conversation piece, all on its own. To me, that is true art.”
And the 34-year-old singer-and-actress hailed the designer for his “extraordinary” imagination.
Speaking at the launch of the designer’s ‘Exhibition[niste]’ exhibition in Paris, she added to the Hollywood Reporter: “The way he imagines what a shoe can be is extraordinary.
“His creative, out-of-the-box approach is what sets him apart from other designers, and what draws us all in to his world of magic and wonder.”
Meanwhile, the 57-year-old designer admitted the rtrospective has left him feeling “exposed”.
He said: “That’s why I decided to call it ‘Exhibition[niste]’. To exhibit yourself is to be nude, to be totally open. I feel like I’m exposing myself, revealing everything.”
The exhibition is staged at the Palais de la Porte Doree and the venue has particular significance for Christian.
He said: “It’s a childhood place for me — I used to go there all the time when I was a kid.
“Over the years other places in Paris had been proposed, but nothing spoke to me. But when this idea came up, suddenly it all fell into place.”

Virgin Abloh unveils new UNICEF design

OHMYGOSSIP — Virgil Abloh has designed a bracelet to raise money for UNICEF.
The 39-year-old creative director’s Silver Lockit is the latest addition to Louis Vuitton’s LVforUNICEF collection, and $100 from the sale of each of the $430 pieces will be donated to the organisation, to help provide children in areas of conflict or disaster with access to basic resources such as water, sanitation, nutrition, education, health, and protection services.
The design is influenced by the fashion house’s spring/summer 2020 collection and features a twisted cord – in one of four colours, black, orange, green, and blue speckled with yellow – linked by a small silver padlock bearing Louis Vuitton’s iconic logo.
The bracelet is also inspired by the tumbler lock, which was invented by Georges Vuitton in the 19th century to protect a client’s most precious belongings.
According to a statement, it was officially selected in 2016 “as a symbol of sealing one’s promise to help children at risk.”
Meanwhile, Virgil – who launched his career as an intern at Fendi in 200 – recently recalled how he found the fashion industry not to be “particularly welcoming” when he first set foot into the business as he reflected on meeting Kanye West at as show in Paris 10 years ago.
He said: “It wasn’t particularly welcoming but the irony was that there was no security at the door of that Comme des Garçons show we wanted to get into.
“It was almost like, ‘Why would you come to a fashion show?’ It would be like walking into some random hotel conference for doorknobs and sitting down.”

Robert Pattinson says Dior link has transformed his style

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Pattinson’s links to Dior have transformed his sense of style.
The 33-year-old actor – who is best known for starring in the ‘Twilight’ franchise – has been working with Dior since 2012, and he admits the partnership has led to some of his most iconic red carpet moments.
He explained: “If I was choosing to wear clothes myself, I don’t think I would have gone in a lot the directions that I have ended up going in with Dior and people like [designer] Kim Jones.
“I never would have thought I would be wearing chiffon, silk and satin. I wore this tuxedo, which had basketball shorts last year – never would have imagined that!”
Robert admitted that one of his biggest fashion regrets is the outfit he wore to the 2005 premiere of ‘Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire’.
The London-born actor – who is set to star in the Matt Reeves-directed ‘The Batman’ in 2021 – told GQ magazine: “I was wearing leather trousers with these cowboy boots and a velvet jacket.
“I mean, it literally looked like a kid had gone into a dressing-up box.”
Meanwhile, Robert previously insisted he’s unfazed by potential failure.
The Hollywood star reflected: “Humiliation is less scary than disappointing yourself.
“At least with humiliation, you’ll learn from it … If your expectation of yourself is, ‘I’m going to be s**t because I have no idea what I’m doing’, then you’re always pleasantly surprised. Always have the lowest expectations possible.”

The 46-year-old model is set to launch her own beauty theme park, called ModelLand, in Santa Monica, California, later this year, and Tyra has admitted to taking inspiration from the American pioneer.
She explained: “I’m inspired by Walt Disney. He created a legacy brand and destination that exists beyond his time on Earth and continues to delight people of all ages through fantasy and story.”
Tyra also revealed that her overarching ambition behind ModelLand is to bring “modelling to the masses”.
She wrote on the theme park’s website: “I want to redefine what a model and modelling means.
“It ain’t just about having a contract with a top modelling agency. And it’s not just being an Instamodel with tons of followers.
“I want to make people everywhere feel more beautiful and powerful than they ever believed possible.”
Earlier this week, Tyra said that women of all shapes and sizes “deserve to feel beautiful”.
The world-famous model is determined that her new beauty theme park will challenge the widespread perceptions of attractiveness.

Virgil Abloh hailed as a ‘creator and an art director’

OHMYGOSSIP — Virgil Abloh is a “creator and an art director”.
The 39-year-old designer – who is the chief executive officer of Off-White – has been hailed by Didier Krzentowski, the owner of Galerie Kreo, the London art gallery where Virgil recently staged a show featuring graffiti-slashed concrete furniture.
Speaking to the New York Times newspaper, Didier explained: “I think he’s both a creator and an art director.
“In which case, I agree he is like Karl [Lagerfeld]. What he made for me was genuinely unique, and that’s very hard to do.
“You can’t do it if you are only an art director. But maybe he’s an art director when it comes to fashion.”
Meanwhile, Virgil recently claimed that streetwear will “die” out in the next decade.
The acclaimed designer feels people prefer to express their style through vintage pieces these days, rather than “boxfresh” hoodies, sneakers and T-shirts.
He said: “I would definitely say it’s gonna die, you know? Like, its time will be up.
“In my mind, how many more T-shirts can we own, how many more hoodies, how many sneakers?
“I think that like we’re gonna hit this like, really awesome state of expressing your knowledge and personal style with vintage – there are so many clothes that are cool that are in vintage shops and it’s just about wearing them.
“I think that fashion is gonna go away from buying a boxfresh something; it’ll be like, hey I’m gonna go into my archive.”

The 52-year-old designer – who will officially take up his new role in April – is set to work alongside Miuccia Prada as one of the iconic company’s two co-creative directors.
Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli emphasised the significance of the appointment, saying it proves the brand remains at “the forefront of change”.
Asked about the dynamic between himself and Miuccia, Raf explained: “When we both believe in it [an idea], we’re going to do it. When one doesn’t believe in it, we won’t do it.”
Raf is hopeful that Prada will embrace creative ideas as the company moves forward.
The acclaimed designer – who launched his own menswear label in 1995 and has subsequently worked for the likes of Dior and Calvin Klein – said: “A business can do super, super good [now] without having creatives or, to add to that, without strong creatives.

Miuccia is also looking forward to the new partnership, saying: “We like each other, we respect each other, we will see where that takes us.”
However, Miuccia rubbished the notion that Raf’s appointment suggests that she’s edging towards retirement.

The duo have actually known each other since around 2005, when Raf was working as the creative director of Jil Sander.

Dua Lipa says her new style is just ‘bleached breakage’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa’s new hairstyle is the result of “bleached breakage”.
The 24-year-old singer is known for her eye-catching sense of style, but Dua has taken to her Instagram account to reveal that her latest look isn’t intentional at all.
Alongside an image of her short, side-swept fringe, Dua – who has more than 39 million followers on Instagram – wrote: “PSA: This is not a haircut. It’s bleached breakage, but I’m runnin’ with it. (sic)”

She previously explained: “Everyone is allowed to wear whatever the f**k they want, and it’s so important that they do.
“This is the way we move forward in the world. We have to break the norms. If women wearing womenswear is deemed normal, women wearing menswear should be normal, too.

Dua also admitted she likes to support up-and-coming designers.
She said: “I always try to find designers that are up and coming, especially when I’m in a certain city.
“If I was in Berlin, for example, I’d try to wear designers from there. It’s important to explore and try new things, and grow with those designers that are up and coming since I’m an up-and-coming artist, too. This way, we can grow and change together.”

Giorgio Armani stages an audience-less show at Milan Fashion Week

OHMYGOSSIP — Giorgio Armani staged his Milan Fashion Week show without an audience on Sunday (23.02.20).
The 85-year-old designer opted to stage an audience-less show in Milan amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis, meaning Armani was forced to rely on online streams for his audience.
In a statement released on Sunday, the company explained: “The show will be shown behind closed doors, due to the recent developments of coronavirus in Italy, live-streamed in front of an empty theatre on the Armani website, therefore please do not attend the show this afternoon.
“The decision was taken to safeguard the well-being of all his invited guests by not having them attend crowded spaces.”
Last year, meanwhile, Armani revealed he doesn’t believe just one person is capable of replacing him.
The designer said that when it comes to eventually choosing a successor, it’ll take more than one person.
He said: “I don’t think one person will work – I think it’s somebody on fashion, somebody on commercial, someone on financial.
“Obviously, nowadays, it’s my decision what will happen, but when I won’t be here anymore they will decide what’s best.
“It’s my first thought every morning. It’s not a nice feeling. But you have to be strong. The company has to go on, aside from my person. But I don’t see the alter ego of Armani out there.
“I also think it’s not fashionable any more. Now companies are done by good people working together. Once upon a time, there was a big boss. Maybe the future won’t be like that.”
