Lupita Nyongo ‘loves’ getting dressed up for the red carpet: ‘My life before was not like this…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lupita Nyong’o “loves” getting dressed up for the red carpet.
The 41-year-old actress rose to prominence after winning an Oscar for her role in ’12 Years a Slave’ in 2013 but admitted that before that she did not really have a glamorous lifestyle, although even now she still “hates” the idea of going shopping for the perfect outfit.
She told Glamour: “I hate shopping. I love red carpets. You get to be Cinderella for a night. My life before the launch of my career did not involve a lot of ball gowns. Now I wear so many and I love it.”
The ‘Queen of Katwe’ star also revealed that in terms of striving for “perfection” she has learned to just embrace herself for who she is and has “forgiven” herself for not always being so.
She said: “These days I allow myself to be a human being. I’ve just found a way of forgiving myself for not being perfect.”
In 2014, Lupita wore a caped red Ralph Lauren dress to the Golden Globes but admitted that even though she thought the number was a hit, her publicists were not immediately convinced.
She said: “Publicists were a little bit nervous about it because it was so bold.
“There’s a cape. I felt like a superhero in it. One of my publicists was so scared of it, and she was like, ‘Maybe it’s too much.’
“Purely because I liked it — my rule of thumb has always been, I only want to wear things that I like, that feel good to wear. And that was one of those moments.”

Victoria Beckham hates gatekeeping fashion and beauty secrets

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Beckham hates it when people gatekeep fashion and beauty secrets.
The 50-year-old fashion designer – who shot to fame as part of the 90s pop group the Spice Girls before establishing her eponymous line – loves being a “real girl’s girl” and part of this involves being very open and honest about where she gets all her best tricks and tips when it comes to where she gets
She told Grazia magazine: “I’m a real girl’s girl, and I think that comes across. I remember when I was growing up, my mum had two very close friends and one would never tell my mum where she got her outfit from or her bag. She just didn’t want anyone else to know. There’s a lot of women like that and it’s so bizarre. If I’ve got something great, a great tip or a great new pair of trainers, I want to tell everyone.
Victoria – who has sons Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19, and 12-year-old daughter Harper with her ex-footballer husband David Beckham, 49 – also believes “there’s always humour” in everything despite the press painting her out to be miserable due to her pouty poses on red carpets at the start of her career.
She continued: “The other thing is that for so long, people had this opinion of me that I was this steely-faced ice queen because of the paparazzi pictures and the story that the media would paint. Through social media, people now see that that’s not me. I like to laugh at myself. There’s always humour in what we do. I think that’s key.”
The brunette beauty believes “life’s too short” to not have a little party once in a while despite the potential for bad consequences.
Victoria said: “You just become more accepting, don’t you? This is how I look. I’m going to make the best of it, work hard at it. I’m very disciplined with the way that I eat, the way I work out and the way I work. That’s just who I am. But I do like to have a drink and I’m not going to be one of these, ‘Ah, there are too many calories in a glass of wine, types. Whatever. Life’s too short. Let’s have a nice time.”

Dua Lipa sparks ‘red hair revival’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa’s cherry-toned locks are set to spark a “red hair revival” this summer.
The 28-year-old singer changed up her tresses again earlier this year and she’s expected to spark a wave of people planning to “push their trend limits” over the coming months.
Explaining cherry is her top hair prediction for the summer, Not Another Salon director and founder Sophia Hilton said: “It’s bold, but it’s so beautiful. Cherry red is going to be the colour for those looking to push their trend limits and make a statement this summer.
“We’re obsessed with Dua Lipa’s cherry red hair revival, but we can’t resist a throwback of Cheryl circa 2010 with this exact tone, or Rihanna also in 2010 with her bright cherry.”
And another trend Sophia is expecting to see is “goth girl blonde”.
She said: “As all the gothic girls are transitioning from black to blonde this summer – it’s dirty, grungy with a root, think Angelina Jolie in Girl, Interrupted as opposed to Legally Blonde.
“Bleaching your hair from dark to light not only is incredibly challenging and damaging, but often leads you with unwonted yellow tones. Because the ‘Goth Girl Blonde’ trend doesn’t care about this, she’s on the journey and she’s here for the ride.”
A temporary taste of pink could also be on the agenda thanks to Kim Kardashian.
Sophia said: “24 hours after Kim’s last new platinum hair launch in April 2024, she dropped in this awesome pink grunge vibe. Kim knows just as well as us, a soft cool pink is perfect to shock the crowds on a night out, but is easily removable so you can get onto your next look in no time.
“Being able to remove a colour is the number one conversation at Not Another Salon. Being able to express yourself, even if it’s just for 24 hours at the weekend or a holiday is so good for our mental health.”
For those looking to change up their look, Coca-Cola have teamed up with Not Another Salon to offer complimentary hair makeovers inspired by their refreshed flavour portfolio, Lemon, Cherry, Vanilla and Zero Sugar.
Coca-Cola aficionados will be able to book their completely free appointments by emailing cocacola@notanother.com for pamper sessions between June 6 and 8 2024. Once emailed, Not Another Salon will be in touch regarding patch tests, and a consultation on what colour people want to take the plunge with. The Flavour Parlour is located downstairs at Not Another Salon, 188 Brick Lane, London, E1 6SA.

Brooke Shields refuses to age ‘gracefully’ or let her ‘hair go grey’

OHMYGOSSIP — Brooke Shields has no plans to age “gracefully” and refuses to let her “hair go grey”.
The 59-year-old supermodel is feeling more youthful than ever, but she has urged people to focus on “acceptance and kindness” of yourself while facing the reality of getting older.
She told Allure magazine: “Isn’t it interesting how we even have to say, okay, well if you’re going to age, you’re going to have to do it gracefully.
“Excuse me, but f*** you. Aging is not a graceful process… You can judge yourself with grace, meaning acceptance and kindness, but also reality.
“If you don’t like what’s happening to your stomach, do sit-ups. Maybe stop drinking as much. Those things to me are graceful.”
When it comes to her hair, Brooke insisted she isn’t a fan of how going grey makes her face look.
She added: “I’m not going to let my hair go grey… I’m not going to let my roots grow in because I’m not ready for that yet. I don’t like what it does to my face.”
However, Brooke has learned to accept other signs of aging, including how “things ache” and how she wishes she “could sleep more”.
She continued: “I wish everything was higher. I wish I didn’t need kinesiology tape to bring my knees up to where they should be.”
Brooke is open to the idea of a facelift generally, although she’s “afraid at this point” to actually undergo the procedure herself.
When it comes to cosmetic procedures for her daughters Rowan Francis Henchy, 21, and Grier Hammond Henchy, 18, she has a different approach.
She said: “When my girls say, ‘Oh, mom, what do you think about lip filler?’ I’m like, ‘I will divorce you.'”
She explained: “Like the times I’ve gotten Botox here [pointing between her eyebrows]. I hate this little frown part.
“Well, then you get used to the no-frown, right? And then you’re like, ‘Oh, what about this?’ And then you go, ‘Oh, that’s how it happens.’ You just go down the rabbit hole.”

Eurovision winner Nemo will wear inflatable dress ‘half the size of a bus’ for London show

OHMYGOSSIP — Nemo is set to wear “one of the biggest inflatable dresses ever” at a performance in London.
The ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ winner – whose full name is Nemo Mettler – is set to play this weekend at the Royal Academy of Arts for fashion label Harri’s upcoming presentation, and the brand has created a special ensemble for the event.
Founder Harikrishnan Keezhathil Surendran Pillai told Women’s Wear Daily: “This couture piece was meticulously handcrafted for more than 300 hours by six people.
“It is quite an enormous piece, probably as big as half the size of a bus.”
Swiss singer Nemo – who is nonbinary – will perform their Eurovision winning song ‘The Code’ in London for the first time at the Benjamin West Lecture Theatre.
Meanwhile, the designer behind Sam Smith’s bouncy latex suit at last year’s Brit Awards described the musician as “the perfect choice” to “push the boundaries of fashion”.
He said: “I constantly get inspired by performance, movement and sculpture. I always strive to create nonconforming, genre-bending, authentic pieces of work that push the boundaries of fashion.
“Therefore, I wanted to work with someone who aligns with my vision and sensibilities. Nemo was undoubtedly the perfect choice.
“Their personality and philosophy stand to defy the constructs, and their music is iconic. A talented artist with strong ideologies perfectly reflects everything that we do here at Harri.”
The designer explained that the church-like aura and huge scale of the room influenced Nemo’s dress.
He added: “The white walls and circular benches are reminiscent of a church, evoking a sense of inner tranquillity found in a spiritual sanctuary.”

Ask and You Shall Receive… Rita Ora is ‘in bed with’ Primark as she teases another collection

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora is “in bed with” Primark and has teased another collaboration with the budget-friendly high-street store.
It was a full-circle moment dropping a line with Primark, as Rita had “depended on” their cheap clothing and underwear growing up, whilst she also highlighted the amazing bra range they sold specifically for women who have had breast cancer surgery.
Rita – whose mother Vera, 60, underwent a mastectomy in 2005 – told Jessie and Lennie Ware on their ‘Table Manners’ podcast: “Oh yeah, I’m in bed with them [Primark]. They’re my best friends. I have to just give a quick shout-out to Primark because, I have to tell you something like not even because I work with them, they were such a massive staple for me growing up.
“I didn’t want to put my logo- well no, it’s on the label because I wanted the product to really like, be its thing. I didn’t want people to just buy it because it’s Rita Ora, I wanted people to actually like the design of it, which you did.
“It’s a staple point. I grew up really going to them for school uniform, underwear. When my mum had breast cancer, they had a really great breast cancer kind of collection for women who have had surgery, and it was just always a big thing in my life, something that I always depended on. It was like a trusting friend, you know?
“I just wanted to do things that I felt like I wanted to see when I was kind of going shopping that, like, high fashion stuff, but you can afford it and it’s just been doing really well because I think people see the authentic story behind it. It’s the truth and that was kind of why I love meshing and blending with them. It felt like going home, I guess.”
The ‘Rita Ora x Primark’ collection – which has included knitwear, denim, tailoring, casual wear and outerwear, plus accessories and shoes – was two years in the making.
The pop star’s other vision for the collection was versatility – making sure many of the items can be mixed and matched and switched up from day to evening wear.
Rita’s’ brand new track ‘Ask and You Shall Receive’ is available on all streaming platforms now.

Jeremy Renner had unique perspective as department store makeup artist

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Renner “had a different principle” for beauty when he worked as a department store makeup artist.
The 53-year-old Marvel star spent eight years working behind the beauty counter in the 1990s – which included time with Lancome, Laura Mercier and MAC Cosmetics – and despite taking the job to make ends meet, his time in the business is full of fond memories.
He told ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’: “I’d work on the weekends at the department stores, audition all week for film and television and then go put makeup on women on the weekends. It was awesome.”
Despite his only experience being “clown” makeup for a local Modesto Junior College production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ – in which he had been cast as The Scarecrow – he got the job after making connections through his time as a fragrance model.
He recalled: “I had a different principle of what beauty is, a different connective tissue to red lipstick or whatever [makeup] it is.
“I wanna know what made a woman feel beautiful without it and how do I express her beauty inside with these tools.”
He would then learn more about the women’s beauty profiles, and find the right way to apply their makeup.
He still remembers his techniques, and he even gave host Drew some tips on how to best apply some red lip.
He said: “If it’s a lipliner, I’d put it all over your lips so it’s lasting because it’s more matte and less oil.
“I probably wouldn’t use a lipstick personally, I’d use a lip gloss so it gives it a little shine.”
Jeremy previously revealed how having a unique perspective – included a focus on cosmetics rather than skincare – helped him land the job.
He recalled thelling the women interviewing him: “‘Wouldn’t it be interesting to get a man’s opinion on how a woman looks like with makeup on?’
“So that was my gangster psychological way in. So I got the job.”

Virginie Viard leaves Chanel after almost 30 years

OHMYGOSSIP — Virginie Viard is leaving Chanel after five years as artistic director.
The iconic brand has confirmed the fashion veteran – who landed the role in 2019 after Karl Lagerfeld’s death at the age of 85 – is stepping down after spending almost three decades with the house in various capacities.
In a statement, Chanel said: “Chanel confirms the departure of Virginie Viard after a rich collaboration of five years as artistic director of fashion collections, during which she was able to renew the codes of the house while respecting the creative heritage of Chanel, and almost thirty years within the house.”
The fashion house added that they have plans to reveal “a new creative organisation”, while thanking Viard for the work she did.
They added: “A new creative organisation will be announced in due course.
“Chanel would like to thank Virginie Viard for her remarkable contribution to Chanel’s fashion, creativity and vitality.”
In her early years, Viard – who was born in Lyon, France – studied theatre design before becoming an assistant to costume designer Dominique Borg.
She first joined Chanel as an intern in 1987, and formed a close professional bond with Lagerfeld, as they even left the brand together in 1992 when he returned to Chloe in 1992.
Five years later, she moved with him as he went back to Chanel, and she joined as coordinator of haute couture.
In 2000, she was named director of Chanel’s creation studio.
Her appointment in 2019 marked the first time in the brand’s history that a female designer had been put in charge since founder Gabrielle Chanel.
The news of her departure comes just a few weeks after Chanel voiced its support for Viard following record revenues once again in 2023.
At the time, the company’s global chief executive officer Leena Nair and chief financial officer Philippe Blondiaux had insisted plans were unchanged when it came to maintaining its grand strategy and creative direction, despite global luxury spending slowing around the world.

Michael Kors has bold goal for racy Miley Cyrus collaboration

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Kors would love to dress Miley Cyrus “as sexy and naked as possible”.
The 64-year-old iconic fashion designer – who founded his own company in 1981 – is no stranger to celebrities wearing his outfits, and he already has big plans in mind for a potential collaboration with the ‘Wrecking Ball’ hitmaker.
He told Variety: “I thought she rocked Bob Mackie like nobody’s business, so I need to get her as sexy and naked as possible.”
He explained that Miley has “never” actually sported his fashion house’s designs, but the door is wide open as he’s a huge fan of her “energy”.
He said: “Miley Cyrus has never worn Michael Kors! I just I love her. I love her talent. I love her energy. Miley, Come on down!”
It’s been a fascinating career for Michael, whose first celebrity collaboration came in the early 1980s when ‘The Mod Squad’ star Peggy Lipton – who died aged 72 in 2019 after a 15-year battle with colon cancer- came into his store in Los Angeles.
He recalled: “The very first celebrity I dressed in Los Angeles under my own label was at a store called Lina Lee on Rodeo Drive. It was the early ‘80s.
“I called and asked how it was going. They said, ‘One of our best customers came in. She bought one of everything and she looked spectacular. You would love how she looked.’
“They said, ‘It was Peggy Lipton.’ I was like, ‘Peggy Lipton from ‘Mod Squad,’ my favorite person in the world?’
Another early standout was Barbra Streisand, who bought a whole collection of “men’s pieces”.
He added: “Then shortly thereafter, I was messing around and we made a few men’s pieces.
“Tommy Perse at Maxfield bought them but said he wasn’t intending on selling them for men, that women would buy it. Barbra Streisand bought all of it.”

Brooke Shields wants to expand hair brand Commence

OHMYGOSSIP — Brooke Shields hopes to expand her over-40s hair brand, Commence, into other areas of beauty.
The 58-year-old actress/model has created a collection of products which have been specially formulated for women aged 40-plus and came about from conversations she had on her Beginning Is Now online community – and she can’t wait to extend the range.
Speaking at WWD’s Beauty CEO Summit, she shared: “I’ve spent so much of my life working for other people.
“This started as an emotional desire to have a conversation that quickly became a real company.”
Brooke – a former child star, who began her modelling career at the age of 11 months, before going on to gain attention at the age of 11, for her leading role in Louis Malle’s 1978 film ‘Pretty Baby’ – quickly learned that the business world and entertainment industry share many parallels.
She said: “There’s so many more similarities than I ever thought. Part of it is, you’re only as strong as the team around you.
“I realised I had to surround myself [with] the experts in the field.”
The ‘Mother of the Bride’ star previously explained her plan at the SHE Media Co-Lab Whole Life Health SXSW panel in March, saying: “It’s coming this summer, but it was really about tapping into the community and finding what their needs are.
“What happens after 40? Thinning hair, scalp health, loss of collagen, all these things that happen to our bodies. And addressing that and then going to the experts and saying, what proprietary formulas can we find?”
Commence launches in June and aims to expand to eight hair care products by the end of the year with a view to potentially add more items including fragrance in the future.

Ever wondered what cologne Paul McCartney wears?

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney’s favourite scent is the lime, basil and mandarin cologne by Jo Malone.
The 81-year-old Beatles legend has revealed his go-to fragrance is by the popular Estée Lauder-owned brand.
Macca was asked in a Q+A for his official website: “I am a big fan of perfumes and I have always asked myself: What is your favourite perfume, Paul?”
To which he replied: “Thank you for asking. I think it’s basil …and something! [Paul checks.] Ok, it’s lime, basil and mandarin – that combo by Jo Malone. And it’s funny, when I read the name ‘Jo Malone’ I always think of this theory of mine, imagining she is Spanish and pronouncing it like ‘Home Alone’. I wonder if that’s how it’s meant to be said?”
Meanwhile, the ‘Hey Jude’ hitmaker recently become the UK’s first billionaire musician.
Macca has seen his wealth double from £50 million to take the top spot once again in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List.
It’s all thanks to his 2023 ‘Got Back’ tour, the increase in value of his back catalogue, the re-release of two Beatles compilation albums, and Beyonce covering ‘Blackbird’ on her new album ‘Cowboy Carter.
He previously took the top spot in 2022, when his fortune was estimated at £865 million, and 2023 when he had £950 million.
Sir Elton John’s ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour helped steer him to second on the musicians list with £470 million, ahead of Rolling Stones rockers Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards with £415 million.

Andie MacDowell’s favourite feature is her curly hair: ‘I helped women embrace theirs’

OHMYGOSSIP — Andie MacDowell’s favourite feature is her curly hair – because it has inspired people to wear their hair natural.
The ‘Maid’ actress and former fashion model, 66, has been a spokeswoman for hair brand L’Oréal since 1986, and she has had many women come up to her to tell her that she made them feel confident enough to let their curls loose.
She told British Vogue: “I’m not ashamed to say—because I was thinking that could sound, you know [arrogant]—but because I know how many people I’ve helped by embracing my curly hair, it has to be my hair. I have people all the time come up to me and say, ‘You helped me like my hair!’ I think it’s not always the most popular. Mine’s very, very curly, but also kind of frizzy. I don’t mind—I like it and I helped women embrace theirs. My hair is very curly, and it’s very fluffy, very curly and I like it! So if it helps other people say, ‘Oh, okay, I like it, too,’ then I like mine too. It’s interesting as a lot of women struggle with that. They don’t feel it’s pretty. It’s fun to go and have your hair blown out for events but I would never do it in my everyday life. I look forward to washing my hair and just having it be its curly self and just letting it do whatever it wants.”
Meanwhile, Andie previously admitted she wants to be seen as a “debonair” mature woman.
The ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ actress, who has proudly sported her grey hair on red carpets, said it was unfair men get more glamorous terms than females to describe their looks as they age.
She told People last year: “I like all the terms we use for older men. I want to hold onto those terms. I want to be ‘debonair’.
“Why not? What a beautiful term.”
The ‘Groundhog Day’ star – who has daughters Rainey Qualley, 35, actress Margaret Qualley, 29, and son Justin Qualley, 38, with her former model husband Paul Qualley, 65 – added society has been “brainwashed” into thinking men age like a fine wine while women don’t.
She said it is a “psychological thing that we’ve bought into because we’ve been fed it for so long”, adding females “don’t allow ourselves to feel good about ourselves and we even perceive (mature men) as sexy, because we’ve been taught this.”
Andie stopped colouring her hair dark during lockdown and insisted her career is flourishing as she “dove into” being an “older woman” and “accepted it”.
She said about showing off her natural grey hair colour: “I am happier. I really like it… I love being an older woman. I really enjoy it. And it doesn’t feel less sexy.”

Elle Fanning doesn’t like to ‘follow too many trends’ in fashion

OHMYGOSSIP — Elle Fanning doesn’t like to “follow trends” in fashion.
The 26-year-old actress and fashionista prefers to set her own trends.
She told PEOPLE: “I’ve always cared about the way I looked, and I’ve always loved clothes and fashion.
“I don’t like to follow too many trends.”
She credits her unique sense of style to being given the freedom to experiment with looks as a child.
The ‘L’Oreal Paris spokesperson said: “I was allowed to experiment growing up.
“I would go to a lot of thrift stores and vintage stores and mix those things with my everyday clothes. I had a 1950s bathing suit phase when I was 7.”
On what she looks for in a red carpet gown, she said: “There has to be something eye-catching about it, something maybe a little bit off about it, something a little weird that makes it interesting.
“The angles have to work. Whether it’s a really big dress or if it’s flowy, you want the angles to be right.”
The ‘The Girl from Plainville’ star wowed in a sheer backless Gucci gown at Cannes Film Festival this week, among other looks.
She added: “An ‘Elle’ dress is normally pastel, and then also can have that kind of twinge of Grace Kelly aspects. That’s always a go-to for me, especially in Cannes.”
Elle declared: “Cannes is the ultimate playground for fashion, and you can go all out.”

“To celebrate women, talent, diversity and freedom of expression in cinema.
“Simone is the absolute embodiment of each of these things.
“Especially when it comes to diversity and representation, embracing and owning her worth.”

She told British Vogue: “I want them to be like, ‘Yes, I’ve got exactly the right products for me.’”
Simone gets “really emotional” talking about her makeup artist Alex Babsky and hairstylist Peter Lux because of how well they understand her beauty needs.
She said: “I get emotional talking about this.
“They understand my skin and the texture of my hair, and when getting ready for events, we find the joy within it. And it’s not a superficial thing – it’s about normalising dark skin and curly hair for girls who need to see that normalised.”

Joey King gets a confidence boost from glam and fashion

OHMYGOSSIP — Joey King says fashion and beauty boosts her confidence.
The 24-year-old explained how her having glam done and wearing something that makes her feel “beautiful” can completely “transform” her mindset.
She told Forbes magazine: “Fashion and beauty help me embody a certain confidence. I am a confident person, but I do feel that it can be dulled by a lot of things.
When I am in a look that makes me feel beautiful, or unique, or transforms me in any way, it awakens that dormant confidence that is laying underneath all this other c*** that I pile on myself.
Referring to her makeup artist Allan Avendaño, she added: “And I have one of the best to help me do that.”
Whenever she is in the makeup chair, she just wants the result to make her look “hot”.
She said: “Most of the time I sit in [his] chair and I go, I don’t know, just make me look hot.
“He usually does something different every time, but he knows what I mean. I don’t really have to explain it based on the wardrobe of the look.”
Lately, she’s been loving sixties-style eye makeup and mainly ops for a minimal, natural look.
She said: “One of the new things that I’ve found a lot of love for in recent looks is a sixties cut-crease style. I just love the way that makes my eye shape pop.”
