Jeremy Strong thinks criticism of straight actors playing gay roles is ‘valid’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Strong thinks it is “valid” to criticise straight actors who take on gay roles.
The ‘Succession’ star can next be seen playing Donald Trump’s late mentor, lawyer Roy Cohn, who was a closeted homosexual, in ‘The Apprentice’, and while he believes all actors should be given the chance to “change the stamp of their nature” and take on parts outside of their “native habitat”, he also thinks it would be good to give “more weight” to the idea of gay performers taking on those characters.
Asked about the criticism of him playing Cohn, he told the Los Angeles Times newspaper: “Yes, it’s absolutely valid.
“I’m sort of old fashioned, maybe, in the belief that, fundamentally, it’s [about] a person’s artistry, and that great artists, historically, have been able to, as it were, change the stamp of their nature. That’s your job as an actor.
“The task, in a way, is to render something that is not necessarily your native habitat.
“While I don’t think that it’s necessary [for gay roles to be played by gay performers], I think that it would be good if that were given more weight.!
After winning a string of awards in recent years, the 45-year-old star is constantly searching for new ways to push himself and “looking for a limb to go out on.”
He said: “I no longer feel thwarted in that way and I can pay my rent.
“And I don’t take any of that for granted because it happened late for me. I have the luxury of choice and the luxury, more importantly, of getting to choose things that matter most to me, things that feel meaningful.
“I want to keep pushing myself — that Simone Biles thing of finding new ways to find the frontier and work that kind of requires a radical courage to do. Which for me is most things, because I find it all pretty fearful.”

Dylan O’Brien not afraid to speak up following ‘life-changing’ incident on Maze Runner set

OHMYGOSSIP — Dylan O’Brien was dismissed as “difficult” when he raised concerns on the set of ‘The Maze Runner’.
The 33-year-old actor suffered “concussion, a facial fracture and lacerations” after being hurled from a moving vehicle and hit by another car while shooting the movie in 2016, and he’s admitted the “life-changing incident” has given him the strength to “stand [his] ground” when working and not be afraid to raise any issues.
He told Men’s Health magazine: “It was a life-changing incident. I’ve approached everything differently, you could say, particularly with regards to standing my ground on set.
“It’s very commonplace in the culture for young actors to be controlled, and the way they strive to do that is by always being like, Oh, don’t become difficult. Don’t be a pain in the a**. Or Are you complaining, are you being difficult? Things like that.”
Dylan doesn’t feel he was “respected” when he spoke up on ‘The Maze Runner’ set but now, if he is dismissed as difficult or an “a******”, he takes strength in knowing he’s just standing up for himself.
He added: “I learned after the accident to not conflate taking care of yourself and looking after yourself. Don’t let them manipulate you into thinking that is being difficult, because I can look at that day and know I was a 24-year-old kid who was raising concerns about how we were approaching things, and they were not listened to, they were not respected.
“And then what happened happened. And by all accounts, it was all pretty gotten away with, I would say, as well.
“It’s taught me that, at the end of the day, in these spaces, you have your own back, and that’s the most you can rely on. I just turned 33. I’ve been doing this for 15 years. I know the person I am, and the character I bring to set, and the way I treat people and the way that I treat a workspace, and I know I’m not difficult. I know I’m not an asshole. I know I was trying to protect myself that day, and so I’ve just never forgotten that. That’s always rung true as being the thing to hold with me.”

Allison Holker was ‘unhirable’ after Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss died

OHMYGOSSIP — Allison Holker became “unhirable for a moment” after the death of Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss.
The 36-year-old ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ judge has reflected on how even her professional life changed after he took his own life aged 40 in December 2022, with “some opportunities” falling through because she suddenly wasn’t “what brands were looking for”.
Appearing on SoFi’s ‘Richer Lives’ talk show, she said: “I had to allow some brands or some opportunities that were in the works, I had to let some of them go.
“I had to be grateful that I had the chance to talk with those people and also understand that what they received was not what they signed up for.
“We were always the happy go lucky couple with a beautiful family, and now when people saw me at that moment, they saw sadness, and that’s not what brands were looking for.
“I kind of became unhirable for a moment, and contracts that were existing were like, that’s not what we signed up for and I had to be like, I understand, because it’s also not what I signed up for. So I can’t be mad at them. I understood.”
Allison – who had kids Zaiai, four, Maddox, eight, with her late husband, while he adopted her 16-year-old daughter Weslie – admitted there were financial struggles after his death, and much more to deal with “besides just emotion”.
She explained: “Financially, the day after my husband’s passing, I was immediately having to take meetings about taxes, about contracts that were existing and that he was at breach of contract.
“Now are those contracts going to exist? Where will my income come from now that he’s out of breach of contract because a lot of our businesses were together?”
Despite her grief, she had to still take on the “role” and tackle the meetings, which gave her another outlet to help her try and move on.
She added: “I took that role and I said, ‘You know what this is actually, what’s gonna help me survive… This is really, really hard, but I think this is a gift from the universe’.
“Being like, you need to fix this, this is gonna help you grieve at the same time, take care of everything and don’t look back.
“I was not going to be a person that grieves first and then does it after as I can’t lose more.”

Kyle Richards ‘doesn’t care’ what others think of her as she makes ‘brave’ move following divorce

OHMYGOSSIP — Kyle Richards has stopped caring what people think about her.
The 55-year-old reality star called time on her marriage to Mauricio Umansky after more than 25 years together but after getting two new butterflies inked onto her chest, she has decided to only do what “feels really good” to her.
She told UsWeekly: “After I got it, I said to the tattoo artist, ‘I can’t believe I did that. That was really brave of me’. I don’t care what anybody thinks anymore. I’m going to do what I want. It feels really good!”
The ‘Halloween Ends’ star – who has Alexia, 28, Sophie, 24, and 16-year-old Portia with Mauricio as well as Farrah, 36, with her first husband Guraish Aldjufrie – is the only remaining original cast member on ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ and admitted that she is a “very different person” now from when the show began in 2010.
She said: “I’m a very different person than I was 14 years ago. I was raised not to talk about or share certain things, so I came into the show with that mentality. It took me a long time to get to this place, but it’s been therapeutic. I’m sharing more than I would’ve felt comfortable [with] a year or two years ago.”
“It was such a different time. I had a Blackberry back then — that’s how you know the show is old! We’d be doing an interview, and they’d say, ‘How much did this cost?’ and ‘How much did you spend on this party?’ [That] was so weird for me.”
But Kyle also admitted that she was hesitant to sign onto the Bravo series in the first place because of how she had initially been an actress, not a personality.
She said: “I didn’t want to do it because I’m an actress. But it kept coming up, and Portia was little, so I was like, ‘I can just hang out with my kids, and they can follow me around.’ I was very naive.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs files appeal for pre-trial release

OHMYGOSSIP — Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ attorneys have filed an appeal asking for the star to be released from jail ahead of his trial.
The 54-year-old rapper was arrested in New York last month and he remains behind bars as he awaits trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges after being denied bail but his lawyer Alexander A.E. Shapiro has now filed paperwork with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit asking for Combs to be freed until his case gets to court.
The documents – obtained by PEOPLE and filed on Tuesday (08.10.24) – state: “[Combs] was not released pending trial, even though he offered to comply with restrictive conditions that would have prevented any conceivable risk of flight or danger … [The court] rejected a plainly sufficient bail package … [and] violated its obligations under the Bail Reform Act …
“Mr. Combs is presumed innocent. He traveled to New York to surrender because he knew he was going to be indicted. He took extraordinary steps to demonstrate that he intended to face and contest the charges, not flee.
“He presented a bail package that would plainly stop him from posing a danger to anyone or contacting any witnesses. Under the Bail Reform Act, ‘liberty is the norm, and detention prior to trial or without trial is the carefully limited exception’.”
Combs has pleaded not guilty to charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution. He was denied $50 million bail and is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.
The star was first denied bail on September 17 and his team quickly filed an appeal but this second attempt to be granted bail was denied a day later on September 18.
During the second hearing, Judge L. Carter of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York said: “There is no condition or combination of conditions to ensure he will not obstruct justice or tamper with witnesses.”
Combs’ next court date has been set for October 10.

Sarah, Duchess of York feared breast cancer diagnosis ‘was a death sentence’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sarah, Duchess of York feared she had been handed a “death sentence” when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 64-year-old royal – who was married to Prince Andrew from 1986 until 1996 and has daughters Princess Beatrice, 36, and Princess Eugenie, 34, with her – underwent a single mastectomy after being diagnosed with the disease last June and explained that her mind went to the “darkest places” when she initially received the news.
Writing for The Sun newspaper, she said: “When you’re told you have cancer, you can’t help thinking it’s a death sentence.
“Your mind goes to the darkest places and you wonder what lies ahead and how you are going to share the news with your family.
“That was certainly the case for me last year when a routine mammogram detected breast cancer, something I had always dreaded.
“I had almost missed the appointment as I couldn’t face a journey into central London on a hot summer’s day and thought I would put it off.”
The Duchess almost missed the appointment in the first place because she couldn’t face the trip to the clinic, ad revealed that the “life-saving” moment only came about at the behest of her sister Jane.
She added: “I’m living proof of the importance of never skipping screening appointments and always getting symptoms checked out promptly.”
Fergie was also found to have skin cancer earlier this year, and while she has been warned against using the term “cancer-free”, she has found hope in fact that the “treatment has been successful and tests show there has been no spread or recurrence” since diagnosis.
She added: “I’m reconciled to the fact that I will have to have checks for the rest of my life.
“I’m now determined to do whatever I can to raise awareness by sharing my experience.”

Drew Barrymore gets a mammogram in front of TV studio audience

OHMYGOSSIP — Drew Barrymore has been filmed getting a mammogram in front of a studio audience as part of a special episode of her TV show.
The 49-year-old Hollywood actress had a scanning machine brought to the set of ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ and she allowed cameras to capture her annual check-up with a team of medics for a special episode which is due to air in the US on Wednesday (09.10.24) as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In a clip of the segment – which has been posted on Instagram – Drew is seen getting her scan and saying: “I’ve never done a mammogram in heels. This is, this is different … I found it to also be a very nurturing experience.”
Drew was getting her mammogram alongside two fearful viewers named Dawn and Morgan, who asked her how it felt.
The star replied: “It feels like if you took your two hands and you took the breast out and you just did that [squeezed]really hard for, what is it … 10 seconds? That’s it, 10 seconds.”
She was joined by her show’s resident doctor Dr. Suzanne Gilberg-Lenz, who told the host: “Drew, thank you for doing this. This is amazing.”
It comes a year after Drew previously documented her mammogram experience on her show, urging her audience to get checked because a few seconds of discomfort could save their life.
On her TV show, she said: “I do think that we all play a very negative mental tennis game in our head about our health. I don’t know about you, but I self-diagnose all day long and the results are horrible, and that’s not the way I should be doing it.
“So I’m trying to take charge and figure this out and I want to take everyone on that journey with me because I’m totally imperfect. I’m just another human walking around with fear of getting bad news. But I know facing it is everything … If it hurts, just know it’s only a few seconds and can save your life.”
Drew added: “I’m gonna be 49, and having two kids has changed everything for me. It matters if I stick around, it matters what I do to myself. I’m way more accountable to myself than I ever have been.”

She told People: “I just want him to fulfil any particular dream that he might have with getting more and more Super Bowl trophies. Whatever he would like, so we’ll see what happens.”
Donna and her family have been propelled to international fame since Travis struck up a relationship with pop megastar Taylor Swift, 34, and even though she was not present at his annual Kelce Car Jam in Kansas City amid preparations for the final leg of her ‘Eras’ tour, fans still turned out out to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ and hand over cards to mark the occasion.
Asked by the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column what he wants for his birthday, Travis said: “I’ll take another Super Bowl if you got one of those.”
The ‘Cruel Summer’ hitmaker did in fact manage to make it to the match on Monday, in which the Chiefs beat the New Orleans Sants won 26-13, meaning that Travis got his birthday wish of a victory.
Just days before the match, he said: “How about we go get a win on Monday night? How about that? You guys up for that?”
Taylor’s appearance at the game was confirmed when she appeared in a video on Chariah Gordon‘s Instagram story, and as she chatted to Mecole Hardman Jr’s fiance about the game, a poster for her ‘Eras’ tour could be seen on Instagram.

Jake Paul makes $5m offer to Mike Tyson ahead of fight

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Paul has offered to pay $5 million to Mike Tyson if the veteran boxer can make it through the fourth round of their bout.
The 27-year-old YouTuber is scheduled to face the former world heavyweight champion, 58, in the ring at the AT T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on November 15 and Paul has declared he will hand Tyson the cash if he can go past the mid-way point of their eight-round match without being knocked out – and if he fails, Iron Mike will have to get a tattoo that reads: “I love Jake Paul”.
Paul made the announcement in a video posted on TikTok, saying: “Mikey, Mikey, if you can last more than four rounds with me, I’ll give you an extra $5 million. But, if you don’t, then you have to get a tattoo that says I love Jake Paul. Deal or no deal?’”
Tyson has yet to respond to the offer.
The match – which will be live-streamed on Netflix – had been due to take place back in July but it was postponed until November after Tyson was unable to train due to illness.
Tyson – who became the youngest ever world heavyweight champion when he beat Trevor Berbick aged 20 in 1986 – has not boxed professionally since his retirement in 2005.
The clash between the sportsman and the social media star was recently criticised by promoter Eddie Hearn, who warned the veteran boxer should not be returning to the ring.
Hearn told BBC Sport: “The reality is that 20 years ago when Mike Tyson retired from the sport he was shot, completely finished. It was actually sad to watch then, 20 years ago …
“I’m in awe of him – he’s one of my favourite ever fighters, one of the greatest of all time – but he’s a 58-year-old man. You only need to speak to him and look at him to know this guy should not be in a ring again.”

Riley Keough feared Lisa Marie Presley had reached ‘the end’ after son’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Riley Keough believes Lisa Marie Presley reached “the end” of her life when her son Benjamin died.
The late singer – daughter of superstar Elvis Presley – was left distraught when Benjamin Keough took his own life in 2020 at the age of 27 and Riley is convinced the loss of her younger brother had a devastating impact on her mother, who died less than three years later in January 2023 at the age of 54.
During a TV special with Oprah Winfrey, Riley explained she worried for her mum after Benjamin, telling the media mogul: “The moment my brother died, I was like, ‘This is the end of her,’ because they were so close.
“They were as close as Elvis was with his mother, and I just couldn’t imagine a world where she would make it without him.”
Riley went on to admit fears for her mother grew during the last few weeks of her life, adding: “The last three weeks that she was alive I was with her a few times that I felt worried.
“I think there was always sort of an undertone for me because of this feeling that I was on borrowed time with her. But there were a couple interactions with her that she just felt detached in a way, a kind of a resignation.”
Oprah asked the actress if she feared Lisa Marie was using drugs again after previously battling an opioid addiction and Riley replied: “It didn’t feel like drugs. I have a lot of experience with the drugs. It felt like a tired person.”
Lisa Marie was buried in the meditation garden at the family’s Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee alongside her dad Elvis and son Benjamin and Riley explained she finds it difficult to visit the property where the interview with Oprah took place.
She said: “I don’t want to come here usually, and I have to sort of force myself to come. And then once I’m here, I really feel a sense of closeness when I go sit in the meditation garden.”
It comes after it was revealed Lisa Marie kept her late son’s body in her home for two months using dry ice in a separate casitas room on the grounds of her Los Angeles house.
In an extract from her posthumous memoir ‘From Here to the Great Unknown’ obtained by People magazine, she wrote: “There is no law in the state of California that you have to bury someone immediately.”
Riley – who finished the book after her mother’s death – wrote it was “really important” for Lisa Marie to “have ample time to say goodbye to him, the same way she’d done with her dad”.
Lisa went on to explain she just wanted to continue caring for her son even after he had passed away. She wrote: “That was part of why it took so long. I got so used to him, caring for him and keeping him there. I think it would scare the living f****** p*** out of anybody else to have their son there like that.
“But not me. I felt so fortunate that there was a way that I could still parent him, delay it a bit longer so that I could become okay with laying him to rest.”

Ryan Seacrest ‘can’t believe’ he is nearly 50

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Seacrest “can’t believe” he is nearly 50.
The ‘American Idol’ host will reach the milestone age on Christmas Eve, and is doing “everything” in his power to try to avoid feeling his age in the build-up to his birthday.
He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “I feel good because I can’t believe I’m turning 50. I’m doing everything I can to make myself feel like I’m not 50.”
Ryan has thrown himself into a routine of healthy diet and exercise
He said: “I’m over-exercising, eating better, over-training, lots of muscle recovery, cold plunging, steaming. Anything to make myself feel 29 again! But I guess I’m excited. Talk to me on the 25th, the day after I turn 50. Although, the 25th will be fine. Talk to me on the 26th!”
The former ‘Live’ presenter was speaking in a chat with his sister Meredith Seacrest, who recalled their childhood and noted it could seem inevitable that Ryan would go down the path of television stardom.
She said: “Well, you were making tapes for our road trips and you’d do the countdown so you’d count down the hits and put in the tape.
“So you were definitely doing that early and then you’d host shows in the house all the time and you were behind the video camera and I’d be the performer, so it was in you.”
Ryan is also known as a producer and helped propel the Kardashian family to global stardom with their reality series ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ but doesn’t think a project of that ilk about his own family would be too interesting.
He said: “I don’t think that we would have such an interesting family docuseries because there’s not many of us. And I have definitely seen, from the inside, the most entertaining family for reality docuseries on the planet. It’s hard to top that one so I think we should pass.”

“I think the thing that’s so unique about my life is that in this very patchwork family, we all have figured it out … The kids feel like they have this huge family.
The ‘Glass Onion’ star noted that even her exes’ children are “like sisters” to her youngest and that her clan has been “nurtured” in a way that she believes is not all too common.
“My exes’ daughters and Rani are like sisters … There is something that has been able to be nurtured in our family that is personally what I think is, it’s very rare.”
The ‘Talk About Love’ singer is even keen to babysit Lovella, four, – who he has with wife Elle Evans – and is “so happy” to have what she calls a “real family unit” around her because she can see everyone feels “safe” amid the setup.

Usher cancels Florida shows due to Hurricane Milton

OHMYGOSSIP — Usher has called off his upcoming concerts in Miami after officials in Florida declared a state of emergency due to Hurricane Milton.
The tropical storm has been upgraded to the most powerful category five hurricane and it’s forecast to hit the state’s south-west coast on Wednesday night (09.10.24) with more than a million residents being urged to evacuate – and Usher has now scrapped his shows at Miami’s Kaseya Center due to safety concerns.
In a post on Instagram, the 45-year-old singer wrote: “My upcoming shows in Miami at Kaseya Center have been rescheduled for December due to the state of emergency in Florida.
“Everyone’s safety and well-being remain my top priority and I’d rather celebrate with you all at a time when you can get to and from the show safely.
“Praying for everyone affected by this natural disaster.”
He added in a caption: “Florida, stay safe. I will see you soon.”
Usher’s shows had been scheduled to take place on October 11, 12 and 14 and they will now go ahead on December 16, 18 and 19 at the same venue.
Hurricane Milton comes just weeks after Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc in Florida.
US President Joe Biden has postponed a planned trip to Germany and Angola so he can oversee emergency preparations and he warned residents in the path of the storm to leave, saying: “It’s a matter of life and death, and that’s not hyperbole. It’s a matter of life and death …
“This could be the worst storm to hit Florida in over a century, and God-willing it won’t be, but it’s looking like that right now.”
Florida governor Ron DeSantis also warned about the danger facing the state, saying: “Let’s prepare for the worst and let’s pray that we get a weakening and hope for the least amount of damage as possible, but we must be prepared for a major, major impact to the west coast of Florida.”

James Bond bosses have ‘interesting ideas’ for Daniel Craig’s replacement

OHMYGOSSIP — James Bond bosses are sifting through “interesting ideas” as they search for an actor to replace Daniel Craig.
Movie chiefs are currently looking for a new star to take over from Craig – who stepped down from the franchise following the release of 2021 film ‘No Time to Die’ – and now Jennifer Salke, global head of Amazon MGM Studios, has given an update on the casting process.
Salke revealed she’s working closely with Eon Productions and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to find the best way forward, telling the Guardian newspaper: “There are a lot of ideas [about potential actors] that have popped up that I thought are interesting.
“I think there are a lot of different ways we can go. We have a good and close relationship with Eon and Barbara and Michael. We are not looking to disrupt the way those wonderful films are made. For us, we are taking their lead.”
Salke went on to insist Bond fans are being “patient” as the search continues but she doesn’t want to leave too much of a gap between 007 films.
She added: “The global audience will be patient. We don’t want too much time between films, but we are not concerned at this point.”
A number of actors have been rumoured to be in the running to play Bond, including ‘Godzilla’ star Aaron Taylor-Johnson who was rumoured to have been handed a formal offer to take on the role.
Aaron even won the backing of former 007 Pierce Brosnan – who played Bond in four films between 1995 and 2002 – who insisted the 34-year-old movie star would be an excellent choice.
During an appearance on ‘The Ray D’Arcy Show’ on RTE Radio 1, Pierce said: “I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so.”

Gillian Anderson would be ‘interested to know’ if men crave intimacy outside of sex

OHMYGOSSIP — Gillian Anderson would be “interested to know” if men crave intimacy outside of sex.
The 56-year-old actress has written a book titled ‘Want: Sexual Fantasies by Anonymous’ because she feels as if the topic has usually been portrayed within the “male gaze” but has now wondered what the response would be if the tables were turned, although she is hesitant to spend “too much time” on the idea of asking men their opinion anyway.
Speaking on the ‘Table Manners’ podcast, she told hosts Jessie and Lennie Ware: “Historically, sex in the public sphere and in the billion-dollar porn industry, it has been very much in the male gaze and geared very much towards men’s pleasure.
“On the one hand, this feels like a bit of an antidote to that.
“But even though we’ve got used to that over the centuries, in terms of what men want, how they reach climax, and not necessarily how they help women be pleasured in the midst of it, I will be interested to know whether it’s just become a habit, or whether men do have needs outside of that.
“If we did ask men to submit letters anonymously whether there too would be letters about wanting to be held, or to be seen for who I am, not for my biceps or brain.
“But there has been so much that is for the sake of men historically that maybe we shouldn’t spend too much time talking about that.”
The ‘X Files’ star previously admitted that she tried to be “nonjudgmental” in the letters she received for the project by default, but ended up “not being shocked” by anything she read.
She told The Guardian’s Saturday magazine: “I think we all felt that if people did feel they were writing to me, knowing how open I am – I’m pretty understanding and nonjudgmental, and I try to be as inclusive as humanly possible – people might feel safer, somehow. That they could put anything down and I wouldn’t be shocked.”
