OHMYGOSSIP — Stefan Karl Stefansson has died aged 43.
The Icelandic actor was best known for his role as Robbie Rotten in children’s TV show ‘Lazy Town’ – and his wife, Steinunn Olina Porsteinsdottir, has confirmed his passing, and paid tribute to her “beloved” late husband.
She posted: “Stefan’s family wants to express their gratitude for the support and warmth received in recent years, and to express their deepest sympathy to the many friends and fans of Stefan Karl.”
Stefan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2016, but later revealed it had been removed following surgery.
However, in March, he told fans the disease had returned and was inoperable.
He wrote on Twitter: “It’s not until they tell you you’re going to die soon that you realise how short life is. Time is the most valuable thing in life because it never comes back. And whether you spend it in the arms of a loved one or alone in a prison cell, life is what you make of it. Dream big.”
Stefan starred in ‘Lazy Town’ on and off from 2004 to 2014, and also appeared in several theatre productions, such as ‘Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical’ and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, and 2011 comedy film ‘Polite People’.
Fans took to Stefan’s final Instagram post to share tributes to the late actor.
He last posted on Instagram in June 2017 when he shared an emotional quote, which read: “At the end of every story there is a rainbow of hope.”
The quote was written over a picture of a rainbow, and he captioned the image: “From the bottom of my heart I thank you for the support you provide me. You give me hope and you all move me. (sic)”
