Kate Garraway ‘calls in financial aid experts after being hit with £716k tax bill from late husband’s firm

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway has reportedly called in financial aid experts after being hit with a £716,000 tax bill from her late husband’s firm.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter, 57, was left devastated when her partner Derek Draper died aged 56 in January, following a marathon battle with the long-term effects of Covid, and is now said to be reeling by the fees being demanded by HMRC after she closed down his company.
A source close to the TV host told The Sun: “It’s no secret that Kate has had a lot of financial burdens to deal with including Derek’s medical and care bills and the inevitable collapse of Derek’s company.
“Kate has wisely sought some help and is working with a team to help guide her through addressing all these debts as speedily as possible.”
Derek’s psychotherapy company Astra Aspera Ltd was shut down with £184,096.96 of debt and its closure is said to have landed Kate with the £716,000 tax bill.
She has reportedly engaged London financial expert Hacker Young to handle discussions with HMRC – a firm that says it specialises in companies and people in need of help with “tax investigations and litigation support”.
Kate has revealed on ITV’s ‘GMB’ she was forced to cash in part of her pension in the wake of bills resulting from Derek’s death.
She told a guest who said they had to pay £15,000 for their private healthcare: “You need every penny of that pension. I’m doing something similar myself.
“I’ve just had to withdraw the bit you can tax-free for my pension to pay belated bills for my husband that passed away.
“I am ashamed of the fact that I am in debt because I have an incredible job that I love, that’s very well paid.
“I’m not a carer travelling miles, paying their own transport to go and help somebody for minimum wage.
“I’m somebody that is very well paid and so I just feel a shame that I couldn’t make it work.”
