OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Ellis-Bextor says lockdown has made her more creative in the kitchen.
Along with hosting her ‘Kitchen Discos’ on Instagram during the Covid-19 lockdown, the ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ hitmaker has been experimenting more with cooking and enjoying family suppers with her brood, Sonny, 16, Kit, 11, Ray, eight, Jesse, four, and Mickey, two, and husband, The Feeling’s Richard Jones.
She said: “We used to eat together at the weekends but in lockdown, we started having supper together every night. It’s been really nice and a lot healthier both physically and mentally.
“We’ve become much better at using leftovers and planning ahead – putting more thought into preparing food for the week, how we would turn dinners into lunch for the next day and not wasting anything.
“We’ll definitely keep up the new habits of how we eat and cook that were adopted during lockdown.”
The 41-year-old singer recently claimed the secret to her 15-year marriage is simply that she and Richard “really like each other”.
She said: “I guess the thing that’s often not celebrated as much in long-term relationships – and I think this goes for family members, friends, all sorts of relationships where there’s love – is that we actually really like each other.
“I really like who Richard is, and I respect him and I like spending time with him.”
Throughout the time she has spent raising her kids, Sophie has learned that parenting is more “reactive” than she’d first thought after welcoming her first child into the world.
Discussing how Sonny is approaching adulthood, she said: “Yeah, and he’s lovely; he’s his own person. You know, parenthood is so much more reactive than I ever thought.
“I thought it was all about what you put in. It’s not. I realised it the day I had him: I looked at this tiny baby and I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, you’re Sonny, and now I’ve got to help you show me who you are and what you need from me.’ ”
