OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie Harry is scared of death.
The 75-year-old star admits that ageing can be problematic in the music business, and thinks she makes people feel more aware of their own mortality.
She explained: “Age is a problem in my profession. It’s a four-letter word.
“Although I enjoy what I do more than ever, and I am better at my job, people look at me and there’s a fear factor. I make them aware of mortality. Although death is an inevitability and I guess it scares me too.”
Debbie feels as though she’s been “living in a vacuum” amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the Blondie star can’t wait for the global health crisis to ease.
She told The Independent: “I’ve been very careful and I’ve enjoyed the great masks I’ve been sent. I’ve got ones that read: ‘Hope’, ‘WHY?’ and ‘Stop F****** the Planet’. And one that looks like a distorted version of my painted mouth, taken from a video still. That’s very cool and scary.
“But I miss the variety and all the people.”
Earlier this year, meanwhile, Debbie slammed Van Morrison’s reaction to the pandemic, describing his stance on lockdown measures as “insane”.
The singer acknowledged that the music icon is a “creative genius”, but she also said he’s “completely mad”.
Debbie – who co-founded Blondie with Chris Stein – explained: “I mean, he has a history of very strange behaviour so it doesn’t really surprise me. And after all, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.
“As far as conspiracy goes … huh! If this is a conspiracy, then the biggest f****** genius in the world has created it! I mean, that is insane. Totally insane!”
