OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Van Halen’s final resting place will be in the Pacific Ocean.
The late rocker – who passed away in October at the age of 65 – was cremated 22 days after he passed away and his family have decided to scatter his ashes off the coast of Malibu.
A source tells TMZ that this was Eddie’s final wish, and will be carried out by his son Wolfgang Van Halen.
Eddie passed away in October following a “long and arduous battle” with tongue cancer.
In a statement posted to Twitter, his son wrote: “I can’t believe I’m having to write this,] but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop. (sic)”
Following his passing, Wolfgang insisted Van Halen fans need to come to terms with the fact that the band is “impossible” without his late father Eddie.
Asked if he will fill in for his dad, he said: “No way. That’ll never happen. I think a message to the Van Halen fans [would be that] some things just really suck. I don’t have a dad anymore and I have to figure out how to process that and deal with it. And, that’s the process that Van Halen fans need to go through and realise that you can’t have the band anymore without Eddie Van Halen. The music will live on forever, but you can’t have [the band] without him. Impossible.”
On why his dad wouldn’t want him to do it, he added: “My dad would probably be really p***** off at me if I [took his place]. He’d probably be like, ‘What are you doing playing my stuff? Go do your stuff.’ He would’ve been really upset, like, ‘You have all this music you’re sitting on. Why wouldn’t you go forward with that?'”
