OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Dornan was “very relieved” when Emily Blunt told him she hadn’t seen ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.
The 38-year-old actor starred as Christian Grey in the erotic rom-com trilogy, who embarks on a sadomasochistic relationship with Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson).
And his ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ co-star has admitted he was glad she hadn’t seen any of the films.
Speaking to ‘Entertainment Tonight’, Emily – who plays Jamie’s on-screen love interest Rosemary Muldoon in John Patrick Shanley’s drama – said: “Jamie was quite relieved that I had never seen the ‘Fifty Shades’ films.
“And I hadn’t read the book. So I just said, ‘I’m so sorry. I’ve never seen those films.’ And he goes, ‘I am very relieved.’
“I’d seen Jamie on ‘The Fall’ and I’d seen him in ‘Private War’, and that was it really. So I didn’t have any sort of perception of him being this, you know, whatever Christian Grey was.”
Jamie recently said he enjoyed tapping into the “oddness” of his character Anthony Reilly – an Irishman who lives on a farm in the English countryside – in ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’.
He said: “Let’s be honest: Anthony is probably on the spectrum in some way.
“He is unlike anyone I’ve ever played, but he has insecurities and an oddness and quirks with him that I felt I definitely possessed myself. I loved the opportunity to show that off and really heighten and explore and exploit my own weirdness, which I have plenty.”
The ‘Burnt’ actor also confessed that he was pleased to bid farewell to the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ franchise, as he doesn’t want to portray the same person on a regular basis.
Jamie said: “I was ready to move on from this crazy chapter in my life. No matter who I was playing, I don’t think I’d want to play a character for multiple, multiple films. I think I’d just get really bored of that.”
