OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Smith says the death of Sir Sean Connery is like “losing [his] dad again”.
The iconic James Bond actor – who was the first to play 007 on the big screen – has passed away at the age of 90, and filmmaker and actor Kevin has paid tribute to the late star whilst opening up about his own family.
Kevin said Connery was playing the suave spy when his dad, Donald E. Smith, used to take him to see the movies, and so felt the pain of losing his father – who died in 2003 – all over again when he heard the news of Connery’s passing.
He tweeted: “He was my Dad’s James Bond, so Dad supported Mr. Connery’s career his entire life, always taking me to see any movie his fave actor was in. I have sweet memories of watching Dad watch his movie idol. So Sean Connery’s passing also feels like I’m losing Dad again. RIP, Dr. Jones. (sic)”
Kevin, 50, wasn’t the only star to pay tribute to the legendary actor, as ‘Star Trek’ star George Takei also took to social media to call Connery “untouchable”.
He said: “Sean Connery was a movie legend, even far into his golden years. Our strongest Bonds were formed by him, and he was Untouchable. He passed today at age 90, a suave hero to the end. (sic)”
Whilst actor Hugh Jackman tweeted: “I grew up idolizing #SeanConnery. A legend on screen, and off. Rest In Peace. (sic)”
Connery’s family confirmed on Saturday (31.10.20) the legendary actor had passed away in his sleep while in the Bahamas.
The star’s first outing as British super spy Bond was in 1962’s ‘Dr. No’ and in total he played author Ian Fleming’s character a total of seven times with films such as ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ considered classics of the franchise to this day.
In 2000, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II at Holyrood Palace for his services to film.
