OHMYGOSSIP — Duncan James found it “challenging” to be separated from partner Rodrigo Reis during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Blue singer Duncan, 42, lives in the UK, while Rodrigo is based in Belgium and lockdown meant they had to be apart for five tough months.
Duncan said: “He lives in Belgium and during lockdown it was really hard. Even though I got to spend nice time with my mum and my daughter, I didn’t get to see my boyfriend for five months. That was the hardest part for me.”
Duncan and Rodrigo met after a Blue gig in Belgium and immediately hit it off.
He told new! magazine: “I was doing a gig with the boys. We were doing a special concert in Belgium, where my partner lives, and after the show we had drinks at the bar. And I just saw this really handsome man. We started talking and had a drink together and one thing led to another. And we ended up meeting several weekends in a row in different places. We went to Paris for a weekend as well as Amsterdam, Belgium and London. And after all those weekends, we said ‘What’s going on? Are we just friends or are we going to do something more?’ And so we said ‘Let’s get together, let’s make it official’. And we got together and it’s really nice.”
Although Duncan missed Rodrigo during lockdown, he cherished the extra time he got to spend with his mother Fiona and daughter Tianie, 15.
He said: “It was nice to have more than five minutes in one place and it ended up being five months. Me and my mum live on the back of a golf course, which was completely empty, so we were able to do our walks around the course and get some exercise and do things we haven’t done since I was a kid. Like a bike ride with your mum – who does that in their forties?”
