OHMYGOSSIP — Armie Hammer began seeing a therapist during lockdown.
The ‘Call Me By Your Name’ star has been quarantining at home amid the coronavirus pandemic, and has said he has not been in his “best mental state” over the past few months, so has been seeing a professional.
He confessed: “I had a very intense wake-up call one day and I needed more help than I realised. I still work with [my therapist] once a week, at least.
“There was one specific moment where I was not in my best mental state … and in the midst of this moment that was very intense, I had a very intense moment of clarity, where I sat my head up and thought, I’m not OK.”
Armie – who has daughter Harper, five, and son Ford, three, with his estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers – admitted he wanted to work on his mental health for the sake of being “the best father” he can be, but said he’s not sure if he’ll ever get to the stage where he thinks he’s “nailed it”.
Speaking in a conversation for the 2020 GQ Heroes conference, he said: “I can’t be the best father if I’m not the best version of myself. I can’t be the best friend. I can’t be the best actor. I don’t think I’ll ever get to the point where I say, ‘I’ve nailed it. This is it. I’m happy…’ But I love the idea of struggling to get that a little bit more every day.”
The 34-year-old actor announced during lockdown he has separated from his spouse Elizabeth, after a decade of marriage.
In a joint statement, they said: “Thirteen years as best friends, soulmates, partners and then parents.
“It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage.
“As we enter into this next chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority.
“We understand this news lends itself to public dialogue, but in the interest of our children and our family, we’re asking for privacy, compassion and love during this time.”
