OHMYGOSSIP — Naomie Harris disagrees with the term ‘Bond Girl’.
The ‘No Time To Die’ star – who plays Moneypenny in the science fiction franchise – doesn’t agree with the term as she believes women in Bond movies are “formidable” at driving the plot forward.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: “You can’t call us girls. We are truly women. I look at the older Bond movies, and the term girl is probably appropriate because they aren’t fully fleshed-out characters. But, particularly in ‘No Time to Die’, they are formidable women driving the plot forward.”
The 43-year-old actress believes that the new Bond film will shock audiences.
She said: “It’s a tie-up of ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’. But with massive, massive surprises that even had me like, ‘Oh, wow!’ So I think we’re going to really shock people … I would say [Bond has] reconnected with his heart. We’re definitely seeing a Bond who’s more in touch with his feelings and more open to falling in love. At the end of ‘Spectre’ there are women he gives his career up for: there’s no more emotional attachment than that. It’s just about moving with the times and recognising that women can no longer be seen as eye candy.”
Naomie also revealed she is “blown away” by how much the Time’s Up movement has “changed culture” and she is pleased there has been a “massive shift”.
She said: “I’m actually blown away by how powerful the movement has been in changing culture. There’s been a massive shift. It’s really wonderful to see, because it’s becoming much more of an egalitarian movement, a safer environment for women – and that’s what it always should have been.”
