Love Island’s Montana Brown wants ‘more body diversity’ on show

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’s Montana Brown has called for “more body diversity” on the show.
The 23-year-old stunner – who rose to fame after taking part in the ITV2 dating show – wants there to be a wider range of shapes and sizes on display in upcoming seasons.
Montana participated in a discussion on whether Barbie Dolls are an “unrealistic portrayal of women” on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Thursday (08.03.19) and host Susanna Reid said: “A lot of people thought that about ‘Love Island’. Actually young girls watching ‘Love Island’ realistically only saw one type of body looking fabulous in a bikini.”
Montana replied: “I would completely agree with that. We should definitely be seeing more of a body diversity on Love Island.”
But it seems unlikely that the network will be introducing fuller women to the show as last year, ITV2 controller Paul Mortimer defended the show and said it was a “sexy” show, which needed toned contestants to fit the part.
He said: “We’re a sexy channel. We cast sexy people. I think on the body image thing, we cast very attractive people. It’s a sexy show, it is entertainment on ITV2 and in the same way Hollywood casts a certain type to get bums on seats in theatres or other shows, the ‘Strictly’ dancers or whatever.”
He also argued that in a way ‘Love Island’ encourages people to work hard at the gym and lead a healthy life so they can look as good as the people they see on the show.
He said: “We cast sexy people, we’re a sexy channel and those people by the way, they work quite hard, there’s a gym, we show people working out. There’s also another conversation going on about childhood obesity. If you want to look like the guys on ‘Love Island’ you have to work out.”
