Martin Clunes back for second series of Manhunt

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Clunes wants to play detective Colin Sutton again in a follow-up to ‘Manhunt’.
The British star is keen to reprise his role as real-life retired police officer Colin whom he brought to life on the small screen in the ITV series, which depicted how the Met Police detective brought serial killer Levi Bellfield to justice and attracted nine million viewers.
‘Manhunt’ was produced by Buffalo Pictures, the company the 57-year-old actor runs with his wife Philippa Braithwaite, 54, and the couple are interested in turning another of Colin’s “grisly” cases into a television drama.
Speaking to the Series Linked TV Podcast, Martin said: “‘Manhunt’ did make me proud, because it was quite a risk for us … My wife had spent four years contacting the family members of the people involved and clearing it with compliance, legally. Colin was very helpful making it and was around a lot … There is another equally grisly case Colin solved that we are looking into…”
DCI Sutton was in charge more than 30 successful murder investigations during his career and another of his most infamous cases is that of the ‘Night Stalker’ Delroy Grant – who raped and attacked elderly victims in South London over a 17-year period.
Martin made his name in comedy with his roles in ‘Men Behaving Badly’, ‘Doc Martin’ and ‘Reggie Perrin’ and he thinks making a great funny show is far harder than creating a good drama.
He said: “It’s either funny or it isn’t, whether it’s fashionable or not. And in a way that you can palm off a lot of old dross as a drama, provided it’s ticking certain boxes, and it’s hogwash. But it doesn’t have to be funny. If it’s not funny, it ain’t funny.
“If it’s some wistful detective staring into the middle distance solving crimes in a nice jacket. That tends to work.”
