OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Edgerton is a father for the first time.
The 46-year-old actor and his girlfriend Christina Centenara welcomed their first child together into the world “a few days ago”.
Speaking to Oprah Winfrey on Wednesday (19.05.21), he said: “I just ran away from the hospital for a moment. I can’t even put it into words. I’m in love.”
Joel admitted he was “very nervous” about missing the birth, but he was able to be there the whole time alongside the Vogue Australia fashion director.
He added: “I was very nervous because I was working in Queensland and there are some border issues with Sydney and Queensland that pop up.
“I was getting very nervous that I’d get stuck.
“But I was working with some wonderful people who said, ‘We will move heaven and earth to make sure you don’t miss something this important.’ ”
The ‘Red Sparrow’ star imitated flying a plane and joked: “I would’ve done a Tom Cruise – ‘How do you work this thing?’ ”
The couple – who have known each other for around 20 years – first went public with their romance at GQ’s Australian Men of the Year Awards in 2018, but they have largely kept their relationship private and didn’t formally announce Christina’s pregnancy.
In April 2020, she admitted they both have “hectic travel schedules”, but they make their union work and are “in awe” of each other’s careers.
She said: “We’re both very motivated and have hectic travel schedules, but it really works for us in an unconventional way.
“The fact that we don’t work in the same industry is refreshing for us.
“We’re in awe of what each other do.”
