OHMYGOSSIP — Sabrina Dhowre Elba’s mother thought she was “crazy” to move to the UK for love.
The 31-year-old model met her now-husband Idris Elba in Canada in 2017 when he was filming ‘The Mountain Between Us’ and quickly fell “crazy in love”.
While Sabrina had been preparing to study law, she abandoned her plans for her relationship after finding it “awful” being apart from the ‘Luther’ star when he returned to the UK, despite warnings from her family.
She said: “I met this tornado of a man and fell crazy in love in just six months.
“After that, he went back to the UK, we did a few months away from each other and it was awful. We couldn’t be apart. So I said I’d come.
“My mother thought I was crazy but he’s my soulmate.”
The couple married in April 2019 and Sabrina admitted she’s learned a lot since they tied the knot.
She said in an interview: “Marriage has taught me so much about myself, about patience and compassion. Especially when you’re locked down together. Every couple argues, but even the arguments feel more right, we’re arguing about things of substance.”
Idris previously admitted he hadn’t planned to get married again until he met Sabrina.
He said: “We’ve been literally inseparable since we met.
“I’ve been married and lived a full life before I even met Sabrina.
“It wasn’t something that I wanted to do, get married again. But…”
The ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ actor also credits Sabrina with “nurturing” his “best side” and aiding him in growing deeper connections with his oldest friends.
He added: “Sabrina has deepened friendships with people I’ve known longer than [her], nurturing the best side of me to make me connect to my friends more.”
Idris was previously married to Hanne Norgaard, with whom he shares daughter Isan, 18, and his second marriage to Sonya Nicole Hamlin lasted four months.
Idris also has six-year-old son Winston with ex Naiyana Garth.
