Tiny Richard Ayoade celebrates a year of Crystal Maze LIVE Experience nostalgia

OHMYGOSSIP — A replica Richard Ayoade standing just 2cm tall has been unveiled as part of a new pocked-sized miniature Crystal Maze LIVE Experience.
‘Great Big Tiny Design Challenge’ miniaturist Bexie Bush has created a tiny 90s-inspired replica to celebrate a year of nostalgia at the attraction and as well as a miniature version of the comic – who is 1.88m tall in real life – and fellow past ‘Crystal Maze’ host Richard O’Brien, the 12cm wide and 7.5cm tall model features miniscule versions of the game’s four iconic Zones, and even a Crystal Dome with floating gold and silver ‘tokens’.
The rare design – which collapsed away into a small folding compact – features around 2,000 grains of sand in the Aztec Zone, 75 tiny pieces of straw crafted from just one cocktail stick n the Medieval Zone, and 100 pieces of .25mm wire to create the Crystal Dome structure. 4cm of embroidery thread and 0.5mm of cocktail stick were used to make a rope ladder, and a hidden treasure chest measures just 2.55mm by 5mm.
Other highlights include a slide, which can also be found in the real-life version of the Crystal Maze LIVE Experience and two miniature versions of the games you can play at the attractions in London and Manchester.
Bexie said of her design: “Being a 90s girl, I grew up playing with these kinds of toys and watching the Crystal Maze, so this was a perfect project for me.
“Once I start, I really get obsessed with the details – I could have easily worked on this for a year!
“This miniature maze is my smallest creation I’ve made to date and designing the box and zones was like an elaborate jigsaw puzzle making sure everything fitted and worked, like the rotating bookcase with hidden treasure!”
Check The Crystal Maze LIVE Experience website to book tickets which are now on sale for the whole of 2023.

Ed Sheeran ‘likes the idea of’ going on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran “likes the idea” of going on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’.
The ‘Castle on the Hill’ hitmaker has watched the show and thought it would be “fun” to be part of the star-studded camp in Australia and undertaking various critter-filled challenges, though he also admitted he’s never going to actually sign up.
Discussing reality TV shows on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’, Ed said: “The one I would do is probably I’m A Celebrity… it looks quite fun. Genuinely. It looks fun. If I had time off, you go in a jungle with a bunch of people you sort of know… I’m not going to do it… I do like the idea of it.”
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old singer also admitted watching a documentary about Robbie Williams and his struggles with addiction made him feel “less isolated” and they have been in touch to discuss their struggles with fame.
He said: “I watched Robbie Williams, he did a documentary, I remember watching it on TV and his rise to fame – obviously he was in Take That – but his solo career, I felt, was quite similar to me, in terms of trajectory and the venues he was doing and what the albums were doing and how big it got and how isolated it got, and how he had a problem with his weight, he had a problem with drugs, he had a problem with alcohol.
“I was watching this thing being like, ‘Oh man he’s gone through exactly what I’ve just gone through.’
“I emailed him and said, ‘Your documentary made me feel less isolated.’ And he was like, ‘Ironically that email just made me feel less isolated.’
“It’s just good to talk about things.”
‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ will be shown on Saturday (01.04.23) at 9.40pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

Michelle Rodriguez didn’t want Avatar character to come back from the dead: ‘It would be overkill’

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Rodriguez declined James Cameron’s offer to bring her ‘Avatar’ character back from the dead.
The 44-year-old star thought it would be “overkill” if her alter-ego Captain Trudy Chacon – who passed away in the 2009 original movie ‘Avatar’ – reappeared in a future film, because her characters in ‘Resident Evil’, ‘Fast and Furious’, and ‘Machete’ had already returned when they “weren’t supposed to”.
She told Vanity Fair magazine: “Dude, when I saw Jim recently, he was like, ‘I was thinking, What if Michelle came back? A lot of the other characters came back [in ‘The Way of Water’].’
“I was like, ‘You can’t do that – I died as a martyr. Jim, I came back in ‘Resident Evil’, I wasn’t supposed to. I came back in ‘Machete’, I wasn’t supposed to. I came back with Letty [in the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise], I wasn’t supposed to. We can’t do a fourth, that would be overkill!’ ”
Rodriguez believes directors are often unsure what to do with her characters if they don’t have a boyfriend.
She said: “I guess they don’t know what to do with the girl who doesn’t have a boyfriend. ‘She doesn’t have a boyfriend. Should we keep her alive, or kill her?’ ”
Rodriguez has portrayed Letty Ortiz in seven ‘Fast and Furious’ films, and is set to return for ‘Fast X’ – the 10th movie in the series – in May, and she is also expected to appear in ‘Fast and Furious 11’ in 20204.
The actress appeared as Rain Ocampo in 2002’s ‘Resident Evil’, in which the character died, but the star returned for the fifth film ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ in 2012 as a twin “clone”.

‘I totally get it’: Chris Pratt understands why he faced casting criticism over Super Mario Bros Movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pratt “totally gets” why people criticised his casting in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’.
The 43-year-old actor was subjected to a backlash when he was revealed to be voicing the beloved Italian plumber in the video game spin-off movie and he thinks it is a testament to how “passionate” the fans are about the project and he is “grateful” for their concern.
He told Gizmodo: “Oh, I totally get it, man. There’s a passionate fan base and I’m one of the fans. I get it.
“Mostly, people don’t want something like this to get screwed up. They’re precious about it. They’re careful. And I’m grateful for that.”
Read the whole interview, which also features insight from Cha
But despite the weight of expectation, Chris admitted he didn’t have a lot of nerves going into the movie because so little is actually known about the characters.
He said: “[Mario’s character] is largely undefined, but I think because it’s largely undefined, it kind of reduces the amount of trepidation that I personally felt coming in.
“I mean, you have great reach. Anytime you have IP like this, it’s really something that’s almost required these days to create a big tentpole type of movie for these studios. You have to have some kind of reach.
“The fact that this hasn’t been a major motion picture recently was a really great thing.
“And you’re right, there’s not that much familiarity beyond just what their costumes look like and a handful of catchphrases that you might hear. And knowing that it was Illumination, I was like, ‘Boy, I think this is destined to be a home run.’
“So I was really, really grateful to be a part of it.”
The ‘Jurassic World’ actor admitted he was always a fan of the ‘Super Mario Bros.’ game when he was a child.
He said: “I played this game for hundreds of hours. Probably maybe 1000 hours of my childhood spent. And so like the sound of hitting a coin, catching a flower, hearing the score, every little detail of the movie, it was like I was hypnotised by it as a child.
“So to see it now, I mean, just nothing really compares to it in terms of my relationship to the brand. So it’s pretty, pretty cool. Pretty incredible.
“And also, I care just as much as everyone else to make sure that doesn’t get screwed up.”

Danny Dyer could ‘taste’ Paul Gascoigne’s ‘rotten’ wind on Scared Of The Dark

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Dyer could “taste” Paul Gascoigne’s “rotten” parps while filming his new show ‘Scared Of The Dark’.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star will front the brand-new Channel 4 show, which will see eight celebrities stuck in a pitch-black bunker – a purpose built living space designed to block out all light – for eight days, with their terrifying experience captured by 50 infrared cameras, and Danny admitted former footballer Paul’s flatulence caused extra frights.
Danny told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “He’s got a rotten a***, Paul.
“They all began to get immune to it, but I could f****** taste it.
“It did smell in there, I’m not going to lie. Because it’s an enclosed space … you know what I mean?”
Danny also revealed how Paul was a prankster on the show, and once put a fishy sandwich inside a bed of one of his co-star’s.
The ‘Football Factory’ actor explained: “I think he put a sandwich in someone’s bed – a nice little sandwich, they’re rolling around at night with a f****** salmon or whatever the f*** it was.”
As well as the celebrities’ whiffy wind assaulting Danny’s nostrils, the star admitted the stench in the bunker was even worse because some of the stars didn’t bother to shower.
He said: “I think they just brushed their teeth, so you can imagine the food and the breath and the farting.
“And they all sleep on a big, round bed, and all their heads are in the middle and it all goes around clockwise.
“So, that’s going to be interesting to see.”
Danny recently admitted the show – which will also feature The Wanted singer Max George, Love Island’s Chloe Burrows, TV presenter Scarlett Moffatt, and boxer Nicola Adams, among others – is one of the most “bizarre” programmes he has done, but insists it is “proper good telly”.
He said: “This is possibly one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever done in my career, and I have done a lot of mad things.
“Throw in a bunch of celebs and make them do things with the lights off – it’s proper good telly.
“You’re gonna laugh, you’re gonna laugh some more and I promise you’re gonna love it.”

The ‘Ghosts’ team – which includes writers and creators Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond – confirmed: “After five incredible years haunting the halls of Button House, we have decided that the time is right to let our beloved sitcom Ghosts rest in peace.

“We could never have imagined the reception the show has enjoyed, or the fun we have had making it, and we would like to thank our amazing cast and crew as well as everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC1 and Monumental Television for their tireless support.
“But most of all we’d like to thank everyone who watches. Mathew, Martha, Simon, Jim, Laurence and Ben x”
Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe also star in the show.
In the upcoming fifth series, Alison (Charlotte) and Mike (Kiell) begin exploring other means of making ends meet and contemplate a new chapter that could have a huge effect on the Ghosts’ after lives.
Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy at the BBC, said: “We are officially in mourning for the end of this BBC comedy classic.
“We can’t thank the ‘Ghosts’ team enough for five incredible series (not to mention some perfect Christmas Specials) and we can’t wait for BBC viewers to see the final series. We look forward to working with the team on new projects.”

Jason Donovan: I was surprised about Neighbours return

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Donovan was “surprised” to hear about Neighbours’ return.
The 54-year-old singer and actor reprised his role as Scott Robinson alongside Kylie Minogue – who played his on-screen love interest Charlene Robinson – for the finale of the Australian soap in July last year.
Fans were left devastated after Fremantle Media announced the country’s longest-running soap would cease production in July after 37 years, following Channel 5’s departure as its broadcaster.
However, a few months after the finale wrapped filming, Amazon Freevee and Freemantle announced the return of ‘Neighbours’ for the second half of 2023.
Speaking about the shock return on Nova’s ‘Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Richie’, Jason said: “I’ll be honest with you, it was a surprise.
“But.. I think anything that provides opportunity to keep people working and actors and producers and all those sort of things.”
Jason – who went on to develop an off-screen relationship with the pop star – was excited to work with Kylie again after all those years.
He added: “It’s beautiful. It is amazing. Obviously, Kylie and I were a big part of that story.
“But a lot has gone on since. What I will say is nostalgia is massive at the moment.
“I think what was happening and the group of people there was a chemistry. There was some magic going on.”
Kylie joined the cast of ‘Neighbours’ in 1986 but left the series in 1988 to embark on a pop career.
She went on to enjoy decades of chart success with hits such as ‘I Should Be So Lucky’, and ‘Can’t Get You out of My Head’, and she even teamed up with then-boyfriend Jason to release chart-topper ‘Especially For You’ in 1989, which could be heard playing as the on-screen couple made their return to Ramsay Street in the finale.
‘Neighbours’ initially aired on BBC One from 1986 until 2008, before being shown on Channel 5.

Paul Whitehouse: We should have Christmas every 4 years

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Whitehouse believes Christmas should only be held every four years “like the World Cup”.
The 64-year-old comedian, who fronts hit BBC series ‘Gone Fishing’ alongside pal Bob Mortimer, admits he doesn’t fancy filming a festive special of the show because he is fed up of Christmas.
Speaking on BBC Radio 2, he said: “To be honest, I’m a little bit sick of Christmas. You know, I’ve tried to put it to Bob and he’s nearly going along with that we should have Christmas every four years like the World Cup – then it would be special.
“Because it practically starts in June now, doesn’t it?”
‘Gone Fishing’, which sees the two lifelong friends embark on fishing adventures around the UK, aired a festive special on Christmas Eve last year.
The hour-long special saw the comedic duo embark on their most challenging adventure yet as they left behind the riverbanks of Britain to go fishing on their dream trip to Norway.
Paul’s latest role is playing Grandad in ‘Only Fools and Horses: The Musical’ – which he co-wrote – at the West End, and he admits it was “daunting” to write following the success of the iconic TV sitcom.
He added: “It’s so precious to people … I didn’t realise quite how deeply it affected people and what it meant to families across generations.”
In January, it was confirmed the musical is to end after four years.
Paul said at the time: “It’s been an unbelievable four years for the whole cast of the ‘Only Fools’ musical.
“We’ve consistently played to packed houses and received standing ovations night after night – the audiences have been incredible.
“I’m committed to six months filming from May onwards, so it felt the right time to say “Bonjour” to Del and the gang … for now.”

Derren Brown to return to Channel 4 for first time in 3 years with new live show Showman

OHMYGOSSIP — Derren Brown will return to Channel 4 for the first time in three years with his new live show.
The 52-year-old master of psychological illusion has already received the “best responses” of his career to his interactive one-man live stage show ‘Showman’ – after bringing it to theatres across the UK – and he will now return to Channel 4, where he has had a home for more than 15 years.
He said: “Channel 4 have consistently allowed me the creative freedom to push boundaries and innovate as far as possible, so it’s a real joy to bring what I feel is my best show to date to Channel 4 audiences.
“It’s had the best response of any show I’ve done.”
Derren has been “very touched” to read some of his fans’ responses to his “very personal project”, which centres on themes of how life’s difficulties bring us together, and living life attentively.
He added: “It’s lovely to know, and I’ve been very touched to read and hear people’s responses to it so far – it’s a very personal project and it’ll be wonderful to have it air on Channel 4, which has been my home for over two decades.”
In 2020, Derren told how he “deflected” his “deep shame” about being gay with magic.
He told The Times newspaper’s Saturday Review at the time: “There’s the old-fashioned cliché we have of the gay man being the hairdresser or the interior decorator.
“They still resonate, though, because if you’re feeling deep shame about who you are you deflect with those sort of dazzling surfaces.
“Magic is a quick route to impressing and therefore deflecting. It creates a strong aura of untouchability, which is very helpful if you’re feeling awkward about the stuff inside.”
‘Derren Brown: Showman’ will air on Channel 4 at the end of April.

Claire Sweeney ‘shocked’ by passing of pal Paul O’Grady: ‘He was so fantastic and unique’

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire Sweeney was “shocked” at the passing of her “unique” friend Paul O’Grady.
The former ‘Brookside’ star has paid tribute to the legendary comedian – who shot to fame with his drag queen persona Lily Savage in the 1990s – following his passing aged 67 on Tuesday (28.03.23).
Claire has spoken of her heartbreak and utter disbelief following her friend’s death.
Speaking to hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng, she told FUBAR Radio’s ‘Access All Areas’: “I’m just shocked. It was so unexpected. I mean he was doing Annie last week and suddenly he’s gone. He was so fantastic and unique and lovely. He’s going to be so missed. I’ve never heard a single bad word about him. He really was, and is, a legend.
“He was doing it when not many people were standing up for the [LGBTQ+] community. He was there and he didn’t care. I just think he’s wonderful, absolutely wonderful. He had no fear. To go, ‘I’m a big star, I’ve got my own TV show as Lily Savage’ and then suddenly go ‘right I want to be me now’, that takes courage.”
Paul gained notability in the London gay scene during the 1980s and became a gay icon for his revolutionary impact on drag, thanks to his foul-mouthed, chain smoking alter ego.
Danny Beard, who won the fourth season of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’, recently spoke about his sadness following the death of an icon.
He told ‘BBC Breakfast’: “I don’t think there’s anyone who does the job that I do that doesn’t class Paul as an icon.
“Paul was a trailblazer, they were on telly just after the AIDS crisis. They’ve been the most important person, I think, in British culture for drag, for the queer community. This is a really sad loss.”

Tony Robinson teases new Blackadder TV project: ‘Viewers won’t have seen it before’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Tony Robinson has revealed a new TV project “associated with ‘Blackadder'” will be released “in the next few months”.
The 76-year-old actor – who played hapless servant Baldrick in the BBC sitcom – hasn’t divulged exactly what the secret project is, but insisted viewers “won’t have seen it before”.
He is quoted by Alison Boshoff’s Daily Mail newspaper column as saying: “There is something new coming at some point in the next few months but I’m sworn to secrecy as to precisely what it is.
“All I can say is that it will be on TV, and it’s something associated with ‘Blackadder’ that viewers won’t have seen before.”
Tony admitted he was “swamped with love” by fans after reading a Cbeebies Bedtime Story as Baldrick for Comic Relief earlier this month, so he is hoping there will be a similar reaction to the upcoming mystery project.
He added: “I was swamped with love from the public after that, so I’m feeling very positive about the future.”
Earlier this month, the BBC’s comedy boss Jon Petrie admitted the corporation are open to talks with ‘Blackadder’ creator Richard Curtis about a new run.
Speaking at a BBC Comedy Showcase, he said: “We would always be happy to talk to Richard.”
Tony previously suggested a new ‘Blackadder’ series is probably unlikely because people may not feel as “warm” about it as they did the original episodes, but he hasn’t completely ruled it out.
He told BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme: “The argument always is that however good a new series might be, the people who are watching it wouldn’t be in the same state of mind and same state of emotions as they were when they watched the first series.
“They wouldn’t feel as warm about it, they wouldn’t feel as good about it. Even if it was absolutely great they’d go, ‘It’s not like the old series, is it?’
“So I think that’s one of the main reasons why no one has ever seriously thought about writing another series.
“But who knows, who knows? It’s not down to me, it’s down to Richard and Ben [Elton].”

Trudie Goodwin: Paul O’Grady could have been a serious actor

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Bill’ star Trudie Goodwin believes Paul O’Grady could’ve been a “serious actor”.
The entertainment world has been in mourning this week following the shock passing of the radio and TV star, who died on Tuesday (28.03.23) aged 67.
The comedian – who rose to fame in the 1990s with his drag queen persona Lily Savage – made many iconic TV cameos, including ‘The Bill’ as police informant Roxanne for three episodes between 1988 and 1990.
Trudie, 71 – who is best known for playing Sergeant June Ackland in the police drama from 1983 to 2007 – was stunned by his performance on the show, claiming he could have been a serious actor.
She told The Guardian newspaper: “Not only was Paul an incredibly kind, funny and generous man, he was also a very fine actor.
“I first met him when he appeared alongside me on ‘The Bill’ and I just loved him. I thought he was a great guy; everyone did. He could have easily made a career being a serious actor if he wanted to.
“He was playing Roxanne, a [character described as a] transvestite prostitute, which back in the late 1980s was pretty groundbreaking on a fairly serious drama. His performance was brave and touching. It was a breakthrough moment for him.
“I met him lots of times after that and he just always made you feel better.”
Tributes from celebrities, friends and fans poured in following the “unexpected” passing of the former Radio 2 star.
Sir Elton John praised Paul for his support of LGBTQ+ rights and his activism, claiming he “went places nobody had gone before.”
Taking to Instagram, the musician uploaded a picture of himself alongside Paul dressed as his drag alter ego.
The caption read: “Saddening news to hear of Paul O’Grady’s passing this morning.
“A brilliant entertainer, wit, and supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and the fight against AIDS and HIV who I was fortunate enough to spend time with including when he hosted @davidfurnish’s and my Stag Party before our Civil Partnership in 2005.
“Thank you for all the joy you brought into the world, Paul. You went places nobody had gone before and we will miss you very much. (sic)”

‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ anime punching its way to Netflix

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are returning with the rest of the original cast of ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ to voice their characters in an anime series adaptation of the 2010 action comedy.
The Edgar Wright-directed film, that has already been turned into a video game, is getting the animated reboot thanks to Netflix, which has announced the remake is on the way.
Based on the hugely popular Bryan Lee O’Malley-created graphic novel series, the first volume of which was published in 2004, the film focuses on the eponymous hero, played by Cera, as he pursues a relationship with delivery woman Ramona Flowers (Winstead) and attempts to defeat her seven evil exes.
Netflix said on Thursday (30.03.23): “Scott Pilgrim has already been through so much, but he’s about to take on the world again.
“The gangly bass player was first introduced in Bryan Lee O’Malley’s hit comic series, and was later played by Michael Cera in Edgar Wright’s 2010 cult favourite ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’.
“Now he, Ramona Flowers and her Seven Evil Exes are coming to Netflix – in anime form.”
The new series from anime house Science SARU has been written and executive produced by O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski.
Wright, who also serves as an executive producer on the new series, told Tudum: “Luckily, the Scott Pilgrim cast became a close-knit family and friendships were forged for life.
“There – to this day – is still a group email with the entire cast on it, that’s been going since 2010.
“I was happy to be able to reach out to everyone with the news that we had finally come up with a way to continue the adventure. Seeing (and hearing) everyone come back to their roles has been a true pleasure.”
He added about how the Scott Pilgrim adventure is continuing: “Over the years fans had asked if there would be a sequel to the film or some other kind of continuation.
“I knew that a live action sequel was unlikely, but I would usually defer by suggesting that perhaps an anime adaptation was an interesting way to go.
“And then, lo and behold, one day Netflix got in touch to ask about this exact idea.
“But even better, our brilliant creator Bryan Lee O’Malley had an idea that was way more adventurous than just a straight adaptation of the original books.”
Returning are Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Anna Kendrick (Stacey Pilgrim), Brie Larson (Envy Adams), Alison Pill (Kim Pine), Aubrey Plaza (Julie Powers), Johnny Simmons (young Neil), Mark Webber (Stephen Stills), Ellen Wong (Knives Chau.)
Coming back as the evil exes are Jason Schwartzman (Gideon Graves), Brandon Routh (Todd Ingram), Shota and Keita Saito (Ken and Kyle Katanyagi), Mae Whitman (Roxy Richter), Satya Bhabha (Matthew Patel) and Chris Evans (Lucas Lee.)
Graphic novel creator O’Malley said: “Everyone is putting their heart and soul into this thing and we’re having the most fun making it.
“It’s hilarious. It’s emotional. It’s visually stunning. The action scenes will blow your mind. And there might be a few surprises along the way.”
The movie, which also featured musical input from figures such as Beck and Nigel Godrich, was met with a positive critical reception upon its debut, and even though it failed to break even at the box office during its release it built a cult following.

Sir Steve McQueen warns his unflinching film on Grenfell Tower disaster will leave audiences ‘disturbed‘

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Steve McQueen is warning his unflinching film on the Grenfell Tower disaster will leave audiences “disturbed”.
The Oscar-winning ’12 Years a Slave’ director shot his movie of the burned out husk of the high-rise flat block from a helicopter – just before its charred remains were shrouded in white plastic emblazoned with a giant green heart – as a stark reminder of the brutal destruction the building represents – and of the fact not one person or firm has been punished for their role in the 72 deaths in the inferno there on June 14, 2017.
McQueen told The Guardian he wanted to use the 24-minute film, soundtracked only by natural noise, to ensure people didn’t get “want to let people off the hook” when it came to the reality of the tragedy.
He said: “You must understand that the violence that was inflicted on that community was no joke.
“I didn’t want to let people off the hook.
“There are going to be people who are going to be a little bit disturbed. When you make art, anything half decent… there are certain people you will possibly offend. But that is how it is.”
The filmmaker added about his technique of starting the film by putting the block in the context of its surrounding landscape of greenery and football pitches: “I wanted to put the building in perspective of our everyday (life.)
“It’s not isolated. That is important because (the viewer is) put it in the perspective of yourself.”
The British director, who grew up in the White City estate near the North Kensington Grenfell block, has held back until now on screening the film.
He now hopes its upcoming public screening from early April will help the push for justice before the sixth anniversary of the tragedy.
Instead of being set to words or music, McQueen’s footage is based on his camera swirling around the block.
It also features close-ups of the building, letting viewers see inside rooms where people died, while white-suited forensic investigators sift evidence.
McQueen’s project involved extensive consultation with the bereaved, survivors and neighbours, and comes as the Grenfell community still awaits the findings of the public inquiry that began almost five years ago.
McQueen said he “sat on” the film after it was shot as he believes it “couldn’t have been shown within three or four years (of the blaze.)”
He added about his technique of circling the block: “It’s about the building and suspending it in time.
“And looking. Holding, holding, holding.”
The 24-storey Grenfell block burned for 60 hours, and as well as the 72 victims killed in the blaze, two later in hospital, more than 70 were injured and 223 escaped.
It was the deadliest structural fire in Britain since the 1988 Piper Alpha oil-platform disaster and the worst UK residential fire since World War Two – with experts branding the cladding around the high-rise a “silent killer”.
McQueen said about the disaster: “It was deliberate neglect. It was no accident. There were so many people, so many companies, so many factors – it was all a deliberate act of neglect and, to a certain extent, greed.”
The director whose films – including ‘Hunger’ about IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands – have consistently tackled social injustice and poverty.
He added when asked if such work left him weary: “Tired? Oh my God no. It’s the reverse. It gives me energy. Justice gives me energy.

Paul O’Grady dies aged 67

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul O’Grady has died aged 67.
The legendary TV presenter – who rose to fame in the 1990s with his drag queen persona Lily Savage – died “unexpectedly and peacefully” on Tuesday (28.03.23) evening, according to his partner Andre Portasio.
He said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.
“He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.
“I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years.”
His long time radio producer Malcolm Prince had visited O’Grady – who had recently been touring as Miss Hannigan in the stage musical ‘Annie’ – at his home earlier in the afternoon.
He tweeted: “He was so proud of Annie, so happy to be back on Boom Radio, and he was looking forward to so many new projects.
“And now he’s gone. I can’t believe it. We have lost a unique talent – and I’ve lost a dear friend.”
O’Grady – who was made an MBE for services to entertainment in 2008 – first started performing as Lily Savage in the 1970s, going onto launch ‘The Lily Savage Show’ on the BBC in 1997.
He revived ‘Blankety Blank’ until 2002, and went on to present a number of chat shows including ITV’s teatime programme ‘The Paul O’Grady Show’ from 2004 to 2005, and then moving over to Channel 4.
In 2017, he took over from Cilla Black on Channel 5’s ‘Blind Date’ reboot, while over the years he also fronted ITV’s ‘For The Love of Dogs’, which was tied to his role as an ambassador for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
He recently left BBC Radio 2 after 14 years, noting at the time he wasn’t pleased with sharing his Sunday afternoon slot.
He was set to join Boom Radio for Easter Sunday in less than two weeks.
