Simu Liu feels no pressure for Shang-Chi sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Simu Liu is relaxed about the ‘Shang-Chi’ sequel.
The 33-year-old actor will reprise his role as Xu Shang-Chi/Shaun in the follow-up to the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ but does not feel the weight of expectation that came with the original film.
In an interview with Collider, Simu said: “Generally, you’re under the most pressure when something is unproven. There’s really high stakes. I remember shooting the first movie and feeling like, ‘Okay, we’re essentially crafting this character, every single day.’
“The stakes could not be higher because it was a 100 bajillion dollar movie budget. I feel like those are the circumstances under which the pressure would be the highest.”
Simu, who is set to star alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the upcoming ‘Barbie’ movie, continued: “Going into a sequel feels exciting. It doesn’t necessarily feel like there’s a pressure to perform or a pressure to exceed. It feels like we’ve established a world and there’s just something really nostalgic and exciting about returning to that world that we’ve spent so much time ideating on and thinking about.
“And then, we’re getting to revisit some things, but also show the viewer new things. We’ll deliver all of the amazing action that we were celebrated for on the first movie, but then hopefully explore new sides of Shaun’s character and the characters around him.”
Simu also quipped that it may be difficult to get Michelle Yeoh to return as Ying Nan following her Oscar-winning performance in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.
He said: “That is, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She’s on top of the world and just the queen of everything.”

Paul O’Grady ‘so disappointed’ with the way he was treated by BBC Radio 2 before tragic death

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul O’Grady was “so disappointed” when BBC Radio 2 axed his long-running programme.
The late TV legend – who passed away suddenly last Tuesday (28.03.23) at the age of 67 – had been hosting ‘Paul O’Grady on the Wireless’ for 14 years when it was axed by the radio station in August 2022 after he refused to share the slot with Rob Beckett and now his producer Malcolm Prince has revealed how the broadcaster let Paul go without any form of a parting gift.
He told Radio Times: “When Radio 2 told us the show was coming to an end, he was so disappointed with the way he was treated. There was no hamper or leaving party, or any of that. He told me recently that Radio 2 wasn’t what it was when he joined.”
Just weeks before his tragic death, Paul – who shot to fame as drag queen Lily Savage in the 1980s and just days before his death had been playing Miss Hannigan in a touring production of the musical ‘Annie’ – explained that he was so “disappointed” in the way things had ended with the broadcaster.
He told Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds Column: “I was [disappointed], because I’m a great believer in continuity. If you go off for 13 weeks and somebody else comes on, the listeners don’t know when you’re back on. Radio 2 has changed, it’s not what it was. They’re trying to aim for a much younger audience, which doesn’t make sense because you’ve got Radio 1. Radio 2 was always for an older audience.”

Olivia Attwood takes on trolls in new documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Attwood is tackling trolls in a new documentary.
The ‘Love Island’ star has spent four months filming a new one-off special in which she will hunt down online bullies and speak to victims of abuse after previously suffering at the hands of trolls who bombarded her with vile messages.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Olivia is really passionate about this documentary, given that she’s been targeted by sexist and body-shaming internet bullies ever since finding fame.
“It’s been fascinating for her to see what makes these trolls tick and why they feel the need to be so mean.”
The documentary comes two years after Olivia addressed trolls on her own Instagram page, recording a video in which she called them out for sending her abuse over her appearance.
In the 2020 clip, Olivia ranted: “‘I’m not gonna sit here and pretend that I am someone that suffers with trolling, because I actually feel like, compared to a lot of people, I’m very lucky in that sense.
But this s*** grinds my gears so f****** bad. I must see these kind of messages more than anything. And they’re so good, because there’s always a backhanded compliment in there.
“And it’s always unfortunately a middle-aged woman. I hate to stereotype, but it always, always, always, is. And maybe the reason I don’t get that much trolling is because I always will message people back.
“You don’t know what I need, and also it’s none of your f****** business! If I want my mouth to look like a swollen b***hole, that is my choice. Don’t tell me: ‘You’re pretty, you don’t need [it]’ …”
Olivia previously made a documentary series called ‘Getting Filthy Rich’ for ITV2 in which she delved into the world of selling sexual content online. The show won the Best Factual Programme prize at the Broadcast Awards last year.

Dwayne Johnson to star in live-action Moana remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is bringing Disney’s animated movie ‘Moana’ back to the big screen in a live-action remake.
The 50-year-old wrestler-turned-actor voiced a character named Maui – inspired by his late grandfather – in the 2016 original which told the story of a strong-willed chief’s daughter in ancient Polynesia – and he’s now heading up the cast of a new version.
Johnson posted about his exciting new project on Twitter, writing: “Humbled to say we’re bringing Moana’s beautiful story to the live-action big screen! Maui changed my life (miss you grandpa) and I’m honoured to partner with Disney to tell our story through the realm of music and dance, which at the core is who we are as Polynesian people.”
The ‘Fast and Furious’ star – whose mother was Samoan – added in a statement: “I’m deeply humbled and overcome with gratitude to bring the beautiful story of ‘Moana’ to the live-action big screen. This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace and warrior strength. I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me.
“I want to thank my partners at Disney for their strong commitment to this special endeavour, because there is no better world for us to honour the story of our people, our passion and our purpose than through the realm of music and dance, which is at the core of who we are as Polynesian people.”
Johnson also posted a video announcing the news on Twitter which showed him on a beach in Hawaii with his two young daughters talking about how much the film and the role of Maui meant to him.
He declared it’s “still very early in the process and there’s so much more work to be done” but he’s thrilled to be given the opportunity to bring the beloved story to life again.

Warner Bros in talks to produce a Harry Potter TV series, JK Rowling ‘in talks’ to produce

OHMYGOSSIP — A TV series based on ‘Harry Potter’ could be on the way.
The magical book series by J.K Rowling was most famously adapted by Warner Bros into a billion-dollar film franchise starring Daniel Radcliffe as the titular boy wizard alongside Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, but now the movie giant is reportedly “in talks” with the best-selling author to bring new adaptations of her novels to its HBO Max streaming service.
According to Deadline, the best-selling author is negotiating a deal that would allow her to serve as a producer on the series, and once her deal is finalised, the project is to look for a writer to adapt the books for TV.
The series – which is reportedly in its nascent stages at present – would follow the general idea that each season would focus on one of the seven novels.
Towards the end of last year, Sarah Aubrey – who serves as HBO Max’s head of originals – teased that there was “nothing like” the ‘Harry Potter’ fanbase so following the success of the documentary ‘Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts’ to mark the anniversary of the first film, the company were always looking at new ideas for the franchise.
She told Variety: “There’s nothing like a ‘Harry Potter fan!’ in terms of their endless appetite for storytelling and new ways of interacting with these characters. So whether it’s the reunion or live events or games, we’re very much in the business of creating new content for those fans and thinking what to do next.”

Craig Revel Horwood pays emotional tribute to Paul O’Grady after Annie performance

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig Revel Horwood got “choked up” as he paid tribute to Paul O’Grady following a performance of ‘Annie’ on Monday night.
The late TV legend died suddenly last week at the age of 67 just days after completing a run as tyrannical orphanage proprietress Miss Hannigan in a nationwide touring production of the musical ‘Annie’.
On Monday (03.04.23), ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Craig – who is also sharing the role on a rotational basis with ‘Coronation Street’ star Jodie Prenger and ‘Two Doors Down’ actress Elaine C. Smith – moved the audience to tears with his words during the curtain call at The Alexandra in Birmingham as he vowed to dedicate the rest of the run to the tragic star.
Audience member David Jack told Metro.co.uk: “After the final bows, Craig Revel Horwood addressed the audience and said they would like to dedicate this and every performance to the legend Paul O’Grady. There were people in the audience in tears and shouts of, ‘We love you, Paul!’ You could see him choking up while saying what he did. I think he found it difficult to say anything due to his emotion. ”
Following the news that Paul – who shot to fame as drag queen Lily Savage in the 1980s before becoming a regular on the small screen as himself with his self-titled teatime chatshow in the mid-2000s – had passed away, Craig admitted he was “in a state of shock” as he remembered Paul as a “wonderful human being.”
He tweeted: “I’m in a state of shock this morning, waking up to the news that my gorgeous colleague and friend, Paul O’Grady has passed away. I’m actually reeling in disbelief. He was such a wonderful human being, funny and to the point. Paul, legend, RIP darling.”

Paddington 3 to start filming this summer

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Paddington 3’ will begin filming this summer.
The long-awaited movie is titled ‘Paddington in Peru’ and is on course to begin production on July 24.
Plot details are being kept under the bear’s famous red hat but the movie will see Paddington getting into sticky situations in his home country of “deepest, darkest Peru” – as the title suggests.
The film will be directed by Dougal Wilson in his feature directorial debut. The movie will once again be produced by Studiocanal with Heyday Films following their work on the first two installments of the ‘Paddington’ franchise.
The new flick will be shot on location in London and Peru and it is thought that Ben Whishaw will return to voice Paddington. It is said that the movie will be made up of a combination of new and returning cast members.
Paul King, Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton have all crafted the story for the latest film.
Studiocanal’s Anna Marsh and Ron Halpern said: “We have long been huge admirers of Dougal’s work, his stunning visual creativity, his storytelling, heart, emotion and humour.
“We are so thrilled that Dougal will be directing the third ‘Paddington’ film. We look forward to bringing ‘Paddington’ back to Peru for his next big screen adventure.”
King – the director of ‘Paddington’ and ‘Paddington 2’ – added: “After ten years of working on the ‘Paddington’ movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I’m delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big-screen adventure.
“Dougal’s work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative, and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to ‘Please Look After This Bear.’ I know Dougal will do so admirably.”

Austin Butler cast in City on Fire

OHMYGOSSIP — Austin Butler is to star in ‘City on Fire’.
The 31-year-old actor has landed his first starring role since his Oscar-nominated performance in ‘Elvis’ as crime boss Danny Ryan in the adaptation of Don Winslow’s novel.
Austin will serve as a producer on the film from Sony 3000 Pictures alongside David Heyman, Shane Salerno, Elizabeth Gabler and Marisa Paiva. The studio has made the project a high priority and are to hold meetings with writers and directors immediately.
‘City on Fire’ is the first in a trilogy of novels and it is hoped that the movie could be the beginning of a franchise for Butler to appear in.
The trilogy focuses on two criminal empires – one Irish, one Italian – that control New England as an event tears them apart and causes a brutal war.
Austin’s character Danny Ryan is forced to grow from a street soldier into a ruthless leader to protect his family, friends and the home he loves.
As he battles the Mafia and the local cops, Danny plans to build a dynasty or die trying.
Winslow expressed delight that Butler has agreed to take leading-man status in the adaptation of his work.
The author said: “Like so many people around the world, I was amazed by Austin Butler’s Oscar-nominated performance in ‘Elvis’.
“I’ve had a number of conversations with Austin about this trilogy that I’ve been working on for almost 30 years of my life, and I have been deeply impressed by his commitment to playing Danny Ryan as well as his passion to also produce the three films with David and Shane and Elizabeth and Marisa.”

‘What the f*** am I meant to look like then?!’ Vicky Pattison says ‘women can’t win’ with body image

OHMYGOSSIP — Vicky Pattison says that “women can’t win” when it comes to body image.
The ‘Geordie Shore’ legend, 35, explained that while she is “very content” being a woman, she is “frustrated” that when it comes to body image there is a “discrepancy” between the sexes, citing reactions to actor Christian Bale and reality superstar Kim Kardashian’s respective weight losses as examples.
Speaking on the ‘This Is Not What I Asked For’ podcast, she told host Jonathan Andrew: “It often feels like women can’t win. Not that I want to sound in any way ungrateful about my gender, like, I love being a woman. I think we’re powerful beyond measure. I think we have this incredible mix of being able to be super strong but also really vulnerable and our support structure, our friends, our mothers or whatever, I think the way we talk and support one another and the way we are able to share our feelings is something men don’t have.
“I’m very content in my gender but I will say that is the one discrepancy that frustrates me constantly. Christian Bale loses loads of weight for ‘The Machinist’, he is an actor, he is dedicated to his craft. He is incredible. Let’s laud him, let’s applaud him. However – and I know this is going to be controversial because of who she is – Kim Kardashian, her job is to look good on red carpets. Her job is to look good to influence people. Kim Kardashian loses weight to fit in a dress, that’s problematic. And those are extremes. It’s very unfair that we quite often get the raw end of the deal when it comes to our image. ”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ winner went on to claim that women are fed contradictory messages when it comes to what their appearance should be and wondered what on earth she is “supposed” to look like.
She added: “We’re encouraged to be healthy and strong but not too strong.
“You don’t wanna look muscly, you’ll put men off but don’t get fat, boys won’t like that either! So be health conscious but not too health conscious because then you’ll get too skinny. And nobody wants you when you’re too skinny because you won’t look a woman. What the f*** am I meant to look like then?!”

‘It would be too complicated!’ Jennifer Saunders does not believe in the afterlife

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Saunders thinks an afterlife would be “too complicated.”
The 64-year-old comedienne prefers to think that death is simply akin to the “clicking off of a light” as she mused that life “loses its libido” with age and was shocked to realise she had become someone who has “no clue” about the latest music stars.
Speaking on the ‘Where There’s a Will There’s a Wake’ podcast, she said: “It would be too complicated to have an afterlife. Do people stay the age they are? The old people aren’t gonna make it! I think it will just be a click off of the light, I think. I think that’s more – as you get older, a lot of things click off gradually. When I was in my thirties, I thought ‘Imagine if I just become a person who only listens to Radio 4.’ And then it happened. I only listen to Radio 4.
“You can’t in your head imagine that. Now, I can only have music on a little bit of the time but if it’s on all the time, I can’t think. I haven’t got a clue about rappers! I never thought that would happen. But it just goes and I think that’s what happens as you get older. It’s not that life becomes less important but things become less important until you can just slide away happily. It’s almost that life loses its libido, there’s not as much as there was.”
The ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ star – who has daughters Ella, 37, Beattie, 35, and 32-year-old Freya with husband Ade Edmondson – went on to add that she would like to die in her sleep surrounded by loved ones whilst on drugs as she explained at her wish for a “dramatic” exit has waned over the years.
When asked by host Kathy Burke to imagine a future where she had died, she said: “I think in the olden days there was a set funeral you knew you were going to get but nowadays because people aren’t so religious you can sort of make it up as you go along. [In the future], I died in my sleep.
“I think that’s how I’d like to go. When you’re young you think ‘I want to jump out of an aeroplane without a parachute or something – splat!’ I think as you get older and you’re crumbling back into the earth anyway, it doesn’t seem to matter so much. I’d like to die having said goodbye, that’s quite important. I’d like to die in a way that’s not messy for other people! I’d have liked to have said goodbye and just go to sleep on a lovely cloud of morphine. Drugs? Yes please! But not in hospital! At home, on morphine.”

Gordon Ramsay: I never watch myself on TV!

OHMYGOSSIP — Gordon Ramsay never watches himself on TV.
The celebrity cook, 56, is best known for his foul-mouthed persona on shows like ‘Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares’ and ‘The F Word’ but admitted has no interest in self-ridicule and refuses to watch his own shows.
He told My Weekly magazine: “I never watch myself on TV. Even when I’m doing a voiceover, I ask them to remove footage of myself from the screen because it’s a bit weird to go back and watch yourself.”
Gordon’s latest venture saw him back behind the kitchen to front ‘Future Food Stars’ which returned for a second season on BBC One on Thursday (30.03.23).
He added: “I am really excited about the return of ‘Future Food Stars’/ It’s a competition to find food and drinks lifestyle business for me to invest £150k of my own money in. But it isn’t just about money. It’s also about being able to tap into my infrastructure and the amazing team that I’ve spent two and a half decades working with. This year’s contestants are very go-getting, competitive, and a little disruptive.”
The show, which has been likened to ‘The Apprentice’ with a culinary twist, sees amateur cooks being put through their paces as they aim to whip up a recipe for success. Ramsay is ready to give away £150k of his own money as he hunts for the next entrepreneur.
He said: “Describing this series as ‘The Apprentice for food’ is b*****ks! They are cast for their businesses, and not the way they behave in front of Lord Sugar! The aim is to showcase and shine a light on some of the amazing places, people, and their businesses making the UK food and drink industry so exciting right now. We start and end the series in my homeland Scotland, and travel all over the UK.”

Graham Norton returning to roots for new Irish comedy show

OHMYGOSSIP — Graham Norton is returning to his Irish roots for a new comedy show.
The 60-year-old star was born in County Dublin but moved to London in the 1980s to pursue a career in entertainment and is “thrilled” to be returning to his homeland as he takes on hosting duties for a new show that will see 10 Irish comedy stars try not to make each other laugh in what will become Amazon Prime’s first original Irish production.
He said: “I’m thrilled to be the host for the first Irish Original, LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland on Prime Video, and to be working on home ground for the first time in many, many years. I’m so proud of our comedy culture and it’s wonderful to have a platform to showcase Irish talent to a global audience. I can’t wait to see what our comedy masterminds do to get the laughter going!”

Harry Hill: Paul O’Grady was a one-off!

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Hill has hailed the late Paul O’Grady as a “one-off.”
The TV legend – who died suddenly at the age of 67 last Tuesday (28.03.023) – shot to fame as pioneering drag queen Lily Savage in the 1980s and made regular appearances as her right up until the early 2000s, when he abandoned his alter ego completely in favour of carving out a career on screen as himself with his own self-titled chat show.
Following his passing, fellow TV star Harry Hill remarked that he was “full of admiration” for Paul over the career move and noted that his death came as such a “shock” because he was so loved for “being himself.”
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, he said: “He was his own thing. And then he rested his own thing. He created a whole scene, he didn’t come up through the comedy clubs that I came up in. He created a new thing and he was…I was full of admiration for him because he killed off that Lily Savage thing that everyone loved.
“I don’t know what he thought about it but maybe he realised it didn’t have the long-term [appeal]. And the fact about Paul O’Grady…what people loved about him, and what I loved about him, is that not just that he was funny but you loved him being himself which you probably never would have got with Lily Savage. This is why everyone is so kind of shocked and upset about it. He was a one-off, there’s no other word for it.”
Meanwhile, the former ‘TV Burp’ host has written ‘Tony! The Tony Blair Rock Opera’ musical about the former Prime Minister – which is set open in London on April 15 before embarking on a UK tour – but initially worked as a doctor before breaking onto the comedy circuit in the early 1990s and reflected that his 30 years in show business have been “great.”
He said: “It’s been great. I always feel, because I used to be a doctor and I always feel that I escaped. I escaped that and joined the circus!”

Stacey Dooley: I’m more dramatic than ever now that I’m a mum

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Dooley has become more “dramatic” than ever since becoming a mum.
The 36-year-old documentary maker has been dating ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Kevin Clifton since they won the BBC ballroom competition together in 2018 and went on to welcome daughter Minnie with him in January this year but joked that she often feels as if she is the only woman to have ever had a child.
Reflecting on motherhood, Stacey revealed that becoming a mum for the first time has changed her as she’s more dramatic than ever.
Speaking on ‘The One Show’ on Monday (03.04.23), she told hosts Emma Willis and Jermaine Jenas: “Honestly, it’s like I’m the first woman to ever have a child, I’m that dramatic.
“I’m just completely obsessed, I’m head over heels. She’s magic.”
Meanwhile, Stacey also spoke about her latest documentary ‘Ready For War’ which is set to debut on April 13.
The one-off programme will see Stacey follow a group of Ukrainian civilians arriving in the UK as they embark on a gruelling five weeks of intensive army training in preparation to fight the war against Putin.
She said: “These raw recruits go through one of the most relentless training programmes the British Army has ever devised. The Ukrainian men I came to know over a few short weeks were incredibly impressive. I think of them every day and hope their training will keep them alive.”
Clare Sillery, BBC Head of Commissioning, Documentaries added: “This film delivers first time access to the British army’s intense training programme for Ukrainian civilians and offers a unique insight into how young people prepare to be frontline soldiers. Stacey’s ability to grapple with the emotional and psychological challenges they face during this process is why she continues to be so popular with viewers.”

Michael Mann’s Heat sequel moves closer

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Mann’s ‘Heat’ sequel has moved a step closer.
Warner Bros. is now in negotiations to develop a follow-up to the classic 1995 crime film that starred Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
Mann recently turned ‘Heat 2’ into a novel and it became a New York Times bestseller after it was published last August.
Insiders say that Adam Driver is in talks to play a young Neil McCauley in the movie – a role that was filled by De Niro in the original.
Sources add that Warner Bros. are in negotiations to fund the project but no partner is involved as yet. New Regency co-financed the original and the company will be given the chance to finance if and when the project is poised to move forward.
Michael revealed last year that he was intending to adapt his novel for the big screen.
The 80-year-old filmmaker told Empire magazine: “It’s totally planned to be a movie. Is it a modest movie? No. Is it a very expensive series? No. It’s going to be one large movie.”
Mann also confirmed that the original cast members would be unable to return for the project as it is set before the events of the first film.
The ‘Public Enemies’ director said: “I love those guys, but they’d have to be six years younger than they were in ‘Heat’.”
Michael is confident that the sequel would be successful as the original movie remains popular nearly three decades since it was released.
He explained: “It’s sustained in culture. It’s known. I could delude myself into thinking that the whole world is familiar with it, but when you check out its prominence in home vid for over 20 years, this thing really has legs.
“People are still watching it, people are still talking about it. It’s a brand. It’s kind of a ‘Heat’ universe, in a way. And that certainly justifies a very large ambitious movie.”
