US version of The Wheel axed amid poor ratings

OHMYGOSSIP — The US version of ‘The Wheel’ has been axed.
The Saturday night game show – which was created by comedian Michael McIntyre – has proven to be a hit with TV viewers in the UK, but it’s already been axed by NBC in the US after tanking in the ratings.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Michael was given a prime-time slot and millions of dollars was put into giving the show the best chance to succeed.
“The channel also booked some major US celebrities like Christina Ricci, Ricki Lake and Tony Hawk. But sadly it just did not capture the imagination of audiences.
“American fans did not warm to the show or the contest.”
A senior source at NBC told the publication: “‘The Wheel’ is not returning.”
Michael came up with the idea for the show during the COVID-19 lockdown, and the comedian previously revealed that he had to audition for his role on the programme.
The 47-year-old star – who launched ‘The Wheel’ in the UK in late 2020 – told The Sun newspaper: “It was a really mean thing. The Americans bought the show quickly on Zoom in lockdown.
“Everyone seemed to want it after it had been on for one or two weeks here, it was crazy.
“I’ve got all these Americans going, ‘We love the show’. And then they said yes, they wanted to buy it. It was amazing.
“Then they were looking for a host and I just kept getting told I was in the running.
“We painstakingly made a teaser tape of all my best bits!”
Michael also confessed to being “obsessed with the ratings”.
He shared: “I’ve always got an eye on what’s on the other channel, and I’m kind of obsessed with the ratings.”

James Gunn ‘blown away’ by Superman Legacy auditions

OHMYGOSSIP — James Gunn has been “blown away” by auditions for ‘Superman: Legacy’.
The co-head of DC Studios – who is leading the way as co-chairman and CEO alongside producer Peter Safran – is currently looking for a new Clark Kent and his Man of Steel alter ego as the duo prepare to launch their own DC Universe.
Posting on the Bluesky social media platform, Gunn wrote: “Amazing amazing weekend of auditions for Superman: Legacy.
“I’m blown away by some of these actors, among the best I’ve ever seen or worked with.”
The movie is currently set to be released on July 11, 2025, with Gunn writing and directing.
It will follow Superman trying to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing as a human on earth.
The latest update comes after Gunn admitted the team were “narrowing it down” when it comes to casting Superman, but he insisted they were “not done yet” despite seeing “a lot of auditions”.
Meanwhile he also shrugged off speculation about who will appear as the next Clark Kent following Henry Cavill’s appearances in the role.
Appearing on ‘Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum’, he said: “There’s things in there that are completely false, but I I can’t go out there and say, ‘Oh this isn’t true, and this isn’t true’ without going through everything.
“And by the way, it’s not the audience’s — at this point, I don’t think it’s the business of anyone who is screen-testing for a role. That is a very private thing.”
Earlier this year, Safran insisted the movie would not be an “origins story” for the superhero.
He explained: “It’s not an origins story, it focuses on Superman’s balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.
“He’s the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, he’s kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

The Big Breakfast isn’t returning this summer

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Big Breakfast’ won’t be returning this summer.
The beloved Channel 4 show was brought back for a four episode run last year following a successful one-off reboot in 2021 as part of the broadcaster’s Black to Front project, and there had been calls for AJ Odudu and Mo Gilligan to host another series this year.
However, a spokesperson said: “Although there are no shows planned for this year The Big Breakfast may well return in the future.”
The reboot was commissioned for four episodes last summer, and there were no firm plans in place to make any more.
The 1990s show as originally hosted by Denise Van Outen and Johnny Vaughan before AJ and Mo took over.
The news will come as a blow to Mo after Channel 4 confirmed ‘The Big Narstie Show’ won’t be back for a sixth series.
The network confirmed: “The decision not to recommission a sixth series of The Big Narstie Show is not part of our response to challenges in the advertising market.
“We are immensely proud of the five series we have made of this innovative Bafta-winning show but we have to look carefully at what we commission each year to make sure we continue to innovate and offer viewers a varied range of programming.
“We look forward to working with Dice, Expectation and Big Narstie on other projects in the future.”
And AJ will also be disappointed after ‘The Big Blow Out’ was also among those to be cancelled by the broadcaster, along with the likes of ‘Four Weddings’ and ‘Rescue: Extreme Medics’.
A Channel 4 spokesperson said: “The Big Blow Out gave us many spectacular hair creations and we grew to love our passionate prodigies, but like all broadcasters we often have to make the difficult decision to stop making some programmes in order to make new ones.”

Harrison Ford is at peace with Indiana Jones finale

OHMYGOSSIP — Harrison Ford “felt a sense of peace” on his final day as Indiana Jones.
The 80-year-old star plays the legendary archaeologist for the last time in the new film ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ and is content with the work he has done on the flick.
Quizzed on his last day on set, Harrison told Digital Spy: “The feeling I had is the feeling you have when you’ve made something, and you can look at it, or you can remember having made it, (and having) the satisfaction of putting work in, and getting something worthy out of it.
“I felt a sense of peace, a sense of contentment, that this particular job that (James Mangold) and I and all the other people involved had done together, was concluded in a way that felt really satisfying to me. It is my hope that others find it as satisfying as I did.”
Harrison returns as Indy 15 years on from the last movie ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ and the actor wanted his alter ego’s advancing years reflected in the latest flick.
He explained: “Well, it wasn’t as though we sat around for 10 years waiting to come up with an idea. When we finished the last film, I don’t think anybody thought about going and doing another film for some time.
“And then there were some interesting ideas that were floated. But they didn’t quite gel over a period of time. And then we found an idea, and a script, and a strong story that we wanted to tell.”
Ford continued: “I’m very happy with the story that we’re telling. We’re coming to the end of Indiana Jones’ time on the planet, and I wanted to see a conclusion of his story that accommodated the reality of his age, and what that effect has on this person we’ve come to know over the years.”

Simon Pegg fears for Tom Cruise during Mission: Impossible stunts

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Pegg admits that the ‘Mission: Impossible’ cast and crew are always worried about Tom Cruise’s spectacular stunts.
The 53-year-old actor reprises his role as Benji Dunn in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ and constantly fears that his co-star’s daring nature could get the better of him.
Simon told Deadline at the movie’s Rome premiere on Monday (19.06.23): “You know, I’m lucky because Benji just kind of stays behind the computer and he does his thing. Tom is jumping off cliffs on a motorbike, you know, he’s hanging off trains – it’s genuinely dangerous stuff.
“There’s always a sense that, you know, one day, something might go wrong… we might lose Tom, you know. Anytime there’s a big stunt, we all have that sense of, you know, fear, but he always pulls it off.”
Pegg is also working on the new movie’s sequel ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’ and is unaware of any plans to bring the action franchise to an end.
The ‘Shaun of the Dead’ star said: “I have no idea, we’ll have to wait and see if it’s the end of me. If it went on, then I’ll be sitting there in the cinema watching it for sure.”
Tom was at the premiere and reiterated his commitment to making blockbusters for the big screen as the film industry bounces back from the coronavirus pandemic.
The Hollywood legend, who returns as Ethan Hunt in the film, said: “I want to make movies, I make movies for the big screen, that is what I do. I understand. There’s other areas and other platforms, I understand that I’ve studied everything up down and centre, from making movies to studios to distribution.
“And I understand that I make movies for audiences, first and foremost.”

Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ in a segment called ‘Vicky Pattison – My Journey To Motherhood’, she said: “I’ve just had a call from the lab and out of six mature eggs, that we decided to turn into embryos, three have survived the fertilization and blastocyst process, so that’s pretty amazing.

The 35-year-old star also appeared live in the studio on Tuesday (20.06.23) with host Lorraine Kelly and Dr. Hilary to discuss her experiences.
She admitted: “When you’re freezing your eggs you’re so focused on the end goal… you don’t even consider the journey and how you get there.
“I actually think that was a huge reason why I’ve decided to do this. I just think most women who do it are unprepared, so I underestimated the process.”

She added: “I want to be the very best parent I can be, and in order to be that, I have to do it at the right time.

Claire Sweeney describes Coronation Street character as ‘vulnerable and troubled’

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire Sweeney has admitted her ‘Coronation Street’ character will “cause some trouble”.
The former ‘Brookside’ actress is heading back to the world of soaps as long-lost mother of established character Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), and she’s given fans a hint of what to expect when Cassie arrives on the cobbles.
She told press including RadioTimes.com: “I love Cassie and I hope the audience love her as much as I do. She’s vulnerable, she’s troubled and she’s got major problems.
“As I’m reading the scripts, I want her to sort herself out because we all love Tyrone – you don’t want anything to upset him, do you? It’s nice to see a different side to Evelyn as a mother as well.
“Cassie is feisty and she’s going to cause some trouble on the cobbles. She’s a loose cannon, but then she’s vulnerable as well.”
The 52-year-old star – who will make her first appearance as Cassandra Plummer in scenes set to be aired on 28 June – also confirmed her character has an addiction problem, which will play into her behaviour.
She added: “Cassie has got a problem – she’s an addict. That’s what makes her so unpredictable and a loose cannon.
“She really does have great intentions to get better and to be with the family, but she’s an addict and it is quite sad, really.”
In the show, Tyrone grew up believing that his mum was Jackie Dobbs – who was played by Margi Clarke and famously shared a prison cell with legendary character Deirdre Barlow in 1998 – but in 2018 discovered after meeting his biological grandmother Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) that he had in fact been abandoned by drug addict Cassie outside of a police station shortly after his birth in 1982.
Producer Iain McLeod teased that her first scenes will kickstart a “tumultuous time” for the family.
He said: “Claire bowled us over in her audition and the scenes with her, Tyrone, and Evelyn will be electric.
“Her arrival will mark the start of a tumultuous time for Tyrone and the family and her impact will be felt across the street in the weeks and months that follow.”

The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star woke up in a cold sweat after stirring in the middle of the night in the buff – after going to sleep with clothes on – next to his ‘Coronation Street’ star wife, 36, and was worried in case a spirit had come in for “a little slap and tickle”.
Mark, also 36, is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “Do you think it would be classed as cheating… having a little slap and tickle with a ghost? I didn’t see one… unless I slept through it.”
Mark – despite the fear he had committed supernatural infidelity – described Chillingham Castle “a beautiful place” but admitted he was “scared” of the Northumberland manor’s reputation as one of the most haunted spots in the country when they filmed their BBC programme, ‘A Wright Family Holiday’ there.
He said: “It’s a beautiful place, but I’m scared of ghosts. I’d prefer not to meet them.”
The ex ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’ star previously admitted that his anxiety about ghosts hit him in his own home after a horror movie marathon.
Mark told Woman’s Own magazine: “I’m the man of the house so if something happens she just goes to sleep and I’m the one lying thinking, ‘Is that the ghost from that film in this room?'”
Recently, the former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star shared how the death of his uncle Eddie after he tested positive for COVID-19 led him and his brother Josh, 33 – who also has sister Jessica, 37, – to prioritise spending more time with their father Mark Snr, 65, after he “was really, really sick” with the virus.
Mark told The Sun newspaper: “I first had the conversation about making this during lockdown – just after my dad was really, really sick with Covid and lost his brother to Covid.
“He thought about end of life at that point. He slowed down and lost that buzz he normally has.”
“I didn’t realise we were going to air the things we did – my dad bottles things up and my brother reveals things about how he’s been struggling and that was a first for him. It was a very moving moment for all of us.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Rose Ayling-Ellis is keen on seeing an “incidentally deaf” character in a period drama.
The ex ‘EastEnders’ star – who is deaf – “would love” to watch a series where someone’s disability is just another part of their personality and not their whole arc, and ideally would showcase real diversity.
The 28-year-old actress told the Radio Times magazine: “I would love to see a character in a period drama who is incidentally deaf, and I want disabled characters who are older, male and not white.
“At the moment, disability is seen as being vulnerable so it looks ‘better’ for a woman to be disabled.”
Rose admitted that before she snagged the Glitter Ball trophy on the 2021 edition of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ with her professional partner Giovanni Pernice she was “fighting for opportunities” but now she hat to bat them away.
She said: “Before Strictly I was fighting for opportunities. Now I get so many opportunities that I have to say no to a lot.”

She told the Guardian newspaper: “It was amazing. I didn’t need to worry about fitting in. There, I felt free to be me.
“I’d never considered acting before. At school, it wasn’t set up for deaf kids, there was nobody deaf on TV or in films, and I didn’t have the confidence.”
“I thought nobody deaf could be professional so it was a bit of fun. There was a deaf youth theatre group in London I started to go to on weekends.”
The ‘Code of Silence’ star detailed how she got her break in telly via Facebook casting groups looking specifically for deaf performers as “agents were interested in deaf actors” and formal training “felt inaccessible”.

‘You get to wear your own clothes!’ Why Peter Dinklage finds voice acting to be ‘libearating’

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Dinklage is “liberated” by voice acting.
The 54-year-old star has appeared on camera numerous times in movies such as ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and is best known for his role as Tyrion Lannister on the HBO television series ‘Game of Thrones’ but is now providing the voice of an evil robot in ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ and compared trying out a new voice to wearing a different costume.
He told Collider: “I just like to mix it up and not repeat myself, and I’ve never played a robot from a different galaxy who has a bit of an evil streak running through him. I’ve done some other voice work for other things and I find it to be really fun, very unique from being on sets – isolating at times, but Steven [Caple Jr], our director, was there on Zoom with me. Every session he guided me through, and he was so accessible. I find not relying on other things as an actor, and just solely your voice, it really can be very liberating, and it calls into focus how important it is even when you’re on camera, like what great actors like Daniel Day-Lewis will do with their voices every time, how it’s just like a costume or an accent, or something. It’s just how you transform the voice – transform – is just as important as anything else, and my favorite actors have always done that.”
Peter went on to add that it can be “fun” to be able to wear comfortable clothes to work instead of having to spend hours in hair and make up when he is appearing in a live-action role.
He added: “It’s very weird if taken out of context, if you’re in the room going, [makes an assortment of grunting noises]. If somebody’s in the next apartment, they will have questions. But no, it’s all fun. I mean, you get to wear your own clothes and your comfortable shoes and not have hair and makeup, you’re in an air-conditioned sound booth, and it’s great. And the people over at Soundtrack [Studios], a place in Flatiron that I work at a lot, I’m very familiar with all of them, and they’re super sweet over there.”
‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ is out now.
