Strictly’s Shirley Ballas says Layton Williams was ‘lucky’ to survive dance-off

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Shirley Ballas says Layton Williams was “lucky” to survive a dance-off with Angela Scanlon.
The actor ended up in the bottom two on week 10 after failing to impress with his American Smooth routine, but he was given a last-minute reprieve when Shirley’s fellow judges Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel-Horwood and Anton Du Beke voted to save him over Angela.
Speaking on ‘Strictly’ spin-off show, Shirley explained: “He was lucky that the other three [judges] saved him.
“It wasn’t how I had taught American Smooth for 50 years. There were lots of things and elements missing.”
Layton survived and is now preparing to compete in the grand final alongside Ellie Leach and Bobby Brazier on Saturday (16.12.23) and Shirley insists she’s thrilled to see him make it to the end.
She added: “I’m glad he’s here now and I’m very very excited to see him in the final.”
In her critique of Layton’s performance as he faced the dance-off, Shirley admitted his routine wasn’t “true to the dance”. She explained: “Well important for me always when it comes to Ballroom and Latin is the character of the dance, that it’s true to the dance, timing and quality and I would have voted for Angela and [her professional partner] Carlos [Gu].”
Layton recently opened up about the social media trolling he’s been suffering since joining the BBC show – admitting the criticism online is “so draining”. The telly star – who is partnered with Nikita Kuzmin, 25 – insisted he lucky to have a “thick skin” as he attempts to brush off all of the negativity ahead of competing in the grand final.
After a fan told haters to leave Layton alone, the 29-year-old actor replied in a post on X – formerly known as Twitter – writing: “Luckily I have thick skin but it’s so draining that so-called ‘Strictly fans’ go out of their way to drag me down to lift others up. “Their fave couples would be SO embarrassed by their comments and so should they. They’ll never dim my shine, Big love.”

Amy Childs says raising twins is ‘tough’

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Childs admits being mum to baby twins is “tough”.
The former ‘Towie’ star welcomed Amelia and Billy with her fiance Billy Delbosq back in April while she’s also mother to daughter Polly, six, and son Ritchie, five, from previous relationships – and she’s confessed it’s been a struggle to look after the youngsters while she’s also working long hours.
She told OK! magazine: “I’m working long hours and have twins under one. They’re full on and it can be tough at times. But when I see their bond together, it’s so lovely to watch.”
As well as working, Amy is busy getting the family ready for Christmas and she’s also plotting a house move in the new year after the couple found their “dream home”.
In a recent post on Instagram, she wrote: “Saturday night!! My favourite … Twins are asleep already Me and Bill are kind of celebrating, we have found our dream home today, fingers crossed it all works out!! Hard work certainly pays off, me and [Bill] are manifesting, cheers to us.”
As well as moving house, the couple are also believed to be planning a wedding next year after Billy popped the question following the arrival of the twins.
Speaking to OK! earlier this year, she explained: “I said [to Billy], ‘Are you sure you want to marry me?’ Jokes aside, we’re thinking maybe next year. I want my body back to looking good because we’ll hopefully film it.
“I’d love to do a wedding TV show. Harry [Amy’s cousin] and I met up straight away for a wedding dress try-on! But right now, we want to enjoy being engaged.”
She added: “It’s full on, but we’re taking it in our stride. I still can’t believe I have four kids. We’re happy and in a really good place. It’s tough with twins but I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

‘I would love to get to do more’: Hayden Christensen eyes future Star Wars projects

OHMYGOSSIP — Hayden Christensen “would love” to feature in more ‘Star Wars’ projects.
The 42-year-old actor played Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the prequel trilogy and explained how returning to the part in Disney+ shows ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ and ‘Ahsoka’ has given him the taste for more work in the legendary sci-fi franchise.
Speaking on Entertainment Weekly’s ‘Dagobah Dispatch’ podcast, Hayden said: “I would love to get to do more, I would love to continue with ‘Star Wars’.
“We’ll see. I don’t know what the future holds, if such an opportunity presents itself, I’ll be there with a big smile on my face. If it doesn’t, I feel really grateful for getting to come back and do the work that I did, both in ‘Obi-Wan’ and ‘Ahsoka’.”
Hayden joked that he felt as if he was “cheating” on ‘Star Wars’ creator George Lucas by working on the projects without his involvement, although he stressed the legendary filmmaker is never far from the thoughts of those involved in the new TV and movie work.
He said: “At first I felt like I was cheating on him a little bit. But no, it’s a different time for ‘Star Wars’ now, and I think it’s really exciting that we now have this period where there are other storytellers coming in and giving their take on the universe.
“But of course, it all goes back to the Maker, and George Lucas is very much at the front of everyone’s mind when we’re making a decision, we want to make stuff that he would be happy with for sure.”
Hayden previously recalled how his life was transformed when he was cast as Anakin in the 2002 movie ‘Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones’.
Speaking on ‘The Jess Cagle Podcast’, Hayden said: “It was a crazy time, everything started to change just off of the announcement that I was going to be playing this role.
“There was sort of all of this attention and I hadn’t even done the film yet, the film hadn’t even come out so that sort of allowed me to have some perspective on it and just realise that I was a part of this thing that sort of garnered all this attention.”

Timothee Chalamet is clueless about scrapped Barbie cameo

OHMYGOSSIP — Timothee Chalamet doesn’t know what his scrapped ‘Barbie’ cameo would have entailed.
The 27-year-old actor explained how he and Saoirse Ronan were lined up for brief roles in Greta Gerwig’s hit movie but he has no idea who he would have played as it never came to fruition.
Timothee told ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’: “I don’t know what the cameo would have been.
“I think it would have been one of the rejected Kens or Barbies, not Alan, but something. Maybe there was a reject French one along the way. I don’t know.”
Even though Timothee never got to appear in ‘Barbie’, he did get the chance to see the set as it had just finished being built when his movie ‘Wonka’ had completed filming.
The Hollywood heartthrob said: “It was kind of going from like a fantastical London chocolate (set, to this) insane (‘Barbie’ set).”
Greta confessed earlier this year that she “was so annoyed” that she couldn’t fit appearances from Chalamet and Ronan in the picture – which featured Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles – as it “felt like doing something without my children”.
The 40-year-old filmmaker told CinemaBlend: “Well, it was always going to have to be a sort of smaller thing because (Saoirse) was actually producing at the time, which I am so proud of her for. And of course, it’s brilliant. But it was going to be a specialty cameo.
“I was also going to do a specialty cameo with Timmy, and both of them couldn’t do it and I was so annoyed. But I love them so much.”

‘I knew X Factor fame wouldn’t last’, says Eoghan Quigg 15 years after he made the final

OHMYGOSSIP — Eoghan Quigg always thought it was “unlikely” that his ‘X Factor’ fame would last.
The 31-year-old singer finished in third place on the 2008 series of the ITV1 music competition and released a self-titled album the following year but has not released anything new in almost a decade and admitted he just “enjoyed the experience” for what it was at the time.
He told Metro.co.uk: “People still recognise me from ‘The X Factor’ now and want to ask questions about it. I guess I did something right if people are still remembering the series. ”
“When everything died down, I didn’t mind, it was always unlikely that it would last forever. I’m glad I kept my feet on the ground and just enjoyed it for what it was.”
Eoghan – who finished behind boy band JLS and eventual winner Alexandra Burke on the series – went on to recall that his parents paid for his flight to the initial audition and that it had lasted a lot longer than he initially expected.
He added: “I’d never even left Ireland before, or been on a plane but I went across to Glasgow for my audition in front of the producers. My family had to pay as X Factor didn’t cover costs until later in the competition.
“I remember that day clearly. I thought it would be an hour and then I’d go home but it was an all-day thing. There was so much waiting about. I was a teenager so I was just tired and hungry, but then when I got in the room it was amazing.
“I remember thinking the judges looked really big as I’d only seen them on the TV screen, and that there were so many lights and cameras.
“Watching it back, I was annoyed as they made it look like Simon cut me off but that’s not what happened! I just performed two songs for them on request

Arlene Phillips thinks it will be a ‘tragedy’ if Layton Williams doesn’t win Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Arlene Phillips thinks it will be a “tragedy” if Layton Williams doesn’t win ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 29-year-old actor is in the final of the BBC Latin and ballroom competition with professional partner Nikita Kuzmin alongisde former ‘Coronation Street’ star Ellie Leach and ‘EastEnders’ actor Bobby Brazier but has garnered controversy over his dance experience as a performer in West End musicals like ‘Billy Elliot’ but choreographer Arlene – who served as a judge on the series from 2004 until 2008 – has now urged the public to “get behind” Layton for the sake of his victory.
She told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “Unless the public gets behind Layton, he won’t win, and in many ways, I think that’s a tragedy because yes, he has danced but the force and the personality that Layton puts into it is his own. Don’t pick on Layton. Don’t pile on hate.”
Arlene went on to add that Layton taking part in the competition is “no more unfair” than any others with dance experience who have competed over the years
She said: “It’s no more unfair advantage than the other dancers that they’ve had on, such as the Pussycats Ashley Roberts. They’ve had people who have come on before who’ve danced….there was always an anger from certain members of the public that they had danced before.
“There is no one I can think of who comes in with an attitude as positive as Layton’s. Whatever he is working on, nothing gets him down. He brings joy into a room and he is a truly beautiful human being.
“He is one of my favourite all-time people. I have to tell you. Am I biased about Layton? Completely. I want him to win. Because Layton has worked very hard for everything he has and everything he does and I can’t imagine one person I know that has worked with him who hasn’t just fallen in love with who Layton is.”

Lucy Fallon ‘always intended’ to return to Coronation Street

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Fallon always intended to return to ‘Coronation Street’.
The 28-year-old actress was cast as Bethany Platt in the ITV1 soap opera in 2014 and departed the show in early 2020 but amid filming scenes for her comeback – which is due to air in January – she admitted it was the “right time” to return, especially after she welcomed baby Sonny, 11 months, with partner Ryan Ledson.
She told The Daily Star newspaper: “I think I said from the beginning when I was asked that question, I said ‘Never say never’. I wasn’t leaving with the intention that I would never go back. I always said to my family, ‘Oh when I go back in five years’ time or whatever…’ That was always the conversation. So, I did always see that [happening] anyway.
“And I think having a baby, it’s nice to be able to come home to him and have a job as well. So yeah, I feel like it was just the right time for me.”
Lucy – who since quitting the soap has starred in ITV drama ‘Tom Jones’ and won an episode of ‘All-Star Musicals’ – saw her character leave to pursue a journalism career in London but teased that “something has happened” there that has “forced” her to return to Weatherfield.
She said: “There is something that’s happened in London that has kind of forced her to come back but she’s not revealing that straight away. She’s being a bit secretive about why she has come back. I’d say she’s quite career focused.
“She’s very driven in her career, very desperate to pursue this journalism career that she started in London. I think she’s grown up quite a lot. I feel like the last time we saw her she probably felt a bit more like a young girl whereas I think now she seems more like a woman. I think she’s grown up a lot, but she has the same morals as before.”

Paul Burrell hopes the Prince and Princess of Wales watched him strip on The Real Full Monty

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Burrell hoped the Prince and Princess of Wales tuned in to see him on ‘The Real Full Full Monty: Jingle Balls’.
The 65-year-old TV star – who worked for Prince William’s late mother, Princess Diana up until her sudden death aged 36 in a car crash in 1997 -appeared on the ITV1 star-studded charity appeal that saw a string of famous faces strip off to raise funds for cancer research.
He told Closer magazine: “I’d like to think that William and Kate will, because the show is talking about a topic that hits the whole nation. I’m very proud of William and Kate and the way they stand up to any criticism that comes their way. They’re both very focused on this country. I hope I live long enough to see William crowned King that would just be the full monty, but the full circle. After the distractions of recent years, nothing would top it. Everything would go back to where it should be.
Paul – who was diagnosed with prostate cancer this time last year but has recently been given the all-clear – shared his opinion that the 41-year-old royal is “always up for a laugh” while reflecting on the prospect of the future King and his 41-year-old wife watching him strip off.
He said: “I think William is always up for a laugh. I’m not sure about going the full monty, though. And if he did, the question would be does ‘Big Will match my Big Ben?’”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ contestant detailed how his fellow contestant Gemma Collins – who joined Ashley Cain, 33, Ben Cohen, 45, Vanessa Bauer, 27, and many others – dressed him up as “butler in the buff” so he could show off his “Kardashian”-style butt.
Paul said of the 41-year-old TV queen: “I didn’t think I’d get on with Gemma Collins as well as I did. When we first met, she screamed, ‘No, not Paul Burrell – he’s a bigger drama queen than me!’ She said she was going to have me as her butler in her house, and she actually did. In one episode, she dressed me up as her ‘butler in the buff. Ben did say my bottom was very nicely rounded. It’s from all the oestrogen I’m on – I’m quite Kardashian now.”

Strictly’s Layton Williams ‘isn’t worried’ about keyboard warriors: ‘They’re just a percentage!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Layton Williams refuses to have his time on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ “defined” by trolls.
The 29-year-old actor is in the final of the BBC Latin and ballroom competition with professional partner Nikita Kuzmin alongside former ‘Coronation Street’ star Ellie Leach and ‘EastEnders’ actor Bobby Brazier but has garnered controversy over his dance experience as a performer in West End musicals like ‘Billy Elliot’ and has now admitted that while he was conscious that some “noise” would come his way, he still wants to “inspire” others with his time on the show.
He told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz Column: “People are a little bit grumpy… I’m like, cheer up! It’s just a cheeky high kick, a flip and a lip! So just get into it. I was aware of the fact it might have some noise but we’ve been able to manage it and it’s not defining my journey.
“What’s defining my journey is what we’ve been able to do and who we’ve been able to inspire, not people that are keyboard warriors. They’re just a percentage. When I am out on the streets, it’s woah! I was shopping on Sunday in Selfridges doing my thing and the love, I tell you, is crazy.”
The ‘Bad Education’ star went on to add that he is “so proud” to have made it into the final and has accepted that whatever will be will be when it comes to who gets to lift the Glitterball Trophy.
He said: “Whatever happens in the final, happens. We are just so proud to have done everything that we’ve done I just can’t wait to sit down one day and show the grandkids, look what I used to get up to! It’s beautiful.”

Zachary Levi felt ‘honoured’ to take on the part originally voiced by Mel Gibson in Chicken Run 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Zachary Levi felt “honoured” to be replacing Mel Gibson in ‘Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’.
The 43-year-old actor voices the role of rooster Rocky in the sequel to the 2000 stop-motion hit and was such a fan of the film to begin with that he was “beyond honoured” to learn he would be playing the character originally voiced by ‘Braveheart’ star Mel.
He told ScreenRant: “Oh, super cool. It’s an honor, man, I was a huge fan of the first film, legitimately still quote it to this day. Love what Aardman does as a studio for all these many, many years. So, when I found out they were making a sequel to ‘Chicken Run’, I was already stoked, and then I found out that they wanted me to reprise the role. I was beyond honored, because Mel crushed it in the first one, and it’s just a really fun role.
“He’s the only American in this whole big group of all these wonderful British actors, and voices, and characters.
“And in this film, it’s the continuation of showing this kind of soft underbelly of Rocky, which comes out in him now being this girl dad, and having this love and doting on her, and then ultimately being willing to sacrifice his life to go save her. So, it’s a really cool adventure.
The ‘Chuck’ star went on to explain that because none of the animation was done when he started working on the movie, he had to use his “imagination” to bring his character to life through his voice.
He said: “They animate to your voice, so for the first few sessions, you know, big sessions, there wasn’t really anything, maybe some storyboards or some rough animatics or something. So yeah, you’re just going to build a performance really based on your own imagination, and what Sam [Fell], our director, was kind of guiding me through.
“Then later on, you come back and do some pickup sessions, and now they’ve done some animation, so you get to see a little bit of that. I’m not watching it going, “Oh, wow, we were totally off,” [chuckles], but it is fun to just kind of see it slowly come together, and then ultimately, become the full finished product that it is, which is wonderful.”
‘Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’ will be available to stream on Netflix from December 15.

Ryan Gosling replaced in Leigh Whannell’s The Wolf Man

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Gosling has been replaced by Christopher Abbott in ‘The Wolf Man’.
The ‘Barbie’ star, 43, will no longer be playing the lead role in Leigh Whannell’s latest Blumhouse horror, which will tell a different tale to the original 1941 flick, with the ‘Crowded Room’ star, 37, taking his place.
The movie also finally has a release date of October 25, 2024.
It was previously claimed that Ryan was poised to play an anchorman who gets infected in the upcoming monster movie.
As well as a change in the cast, although Leigh was in early talks to helm the flick, Derek Cianfrance was briefly named director.
The former had parted ways with the project due to scheduling conflicts.
The film will not be a period piece like the 2010 movie that starred Benicio del Toro and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Ryan had pitched the idea for the film to be set within Universal’s new vision for monster movies, although the studio reassessed the plans after Tom Cruise’s ‘The Mummy’ turned out to be a flop.
Universal opted to move forward with projects based on the monsters’ legacies and opted for filmmaker-driven projects.
According to Deadline, Ryan had approached Derek about directing the movie following Leigh’s departure and ultimately won the filmmaker over.
Derek said in a statement at the time: “Horror movies were my first love – my entry into what cinema was capable of narratively, psychologically and aesthetically.
“Coupled with the opportunity to collaborate with Ryan again, this is truly a dream come true. I’m thrilled and inspired to work with the good folks at Blumhouse and Universal to bring this monster back to life in our collective unconscious.”

Coronation Street star Sair Khan reveals baby joy after a tough year

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ star Sair Khan is expecting her first child.
The 35-year-old actress – who has played businesswoman Alya Nazir on the ITV soap since 2014 – and her partner Nathan Chilton are set to welcome a little bundle into their lives in spring 2024.
It comes after a “challenging” year that saw her chiropractor boyfriend undergo delayed surgery on his pelvis after finding out he had a benign bone tumour in 2021, which has since spread to his lungs.
Updating fans on the couple’s happy news, Sair began: “Hello… It’s been a little while since posting on here which has been a real mix of emotions. With all that is happening in the world it didn’t feel like the right time to share but we also know it’s okay to keep hope and pray for peace whilst acknowledging that we feel blessed and grateful.”
Sharing her partner’s health battle, Sair continued: “Last year was a challenging time for us both with Nathan’s chondroblastoma surgery on his pelvis. It’s been a long road to recovery and still has many obstacles ahead as we deal with the spread of the tumour to his lungs.
“Life can be difficult and there’ll always be challenges to face but there are also important lessons to be learnt and gifts to be cherished.
“We’re so excited for the arrival of Baby Chilton in Spring 2024.”
Before dating Nathan, the ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ star was in a relationship with former ‘Emmerdale’ star Simon Lennon, whom she spit from in 2019 after two years together.

Ncuti Gatwa has ‘no idea’ about Doctor Who future after season 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Ncuti Gatwa has “no idea” if he will be on ‘Doctor Who’ for the long haul.
The 31-year-old actor – who shot to stardom after he appeared in Netflix’s romance drama ‘Sex Education’ – picked up the Sonic Screwdriver and took over the TARDIS in the latest ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary special, ‘The Giggle’, as he joined forces with David Tennant’s Doctor, but he’s insisted he doesn’t know how long he will have the role for.
During an interview with Radio Times magazine, the actor was asked whether his time on the BBC show would go beyond the second season and said: “No idea, no plan. I just know that I’m loving it and my love for it is growing.”
Despite his uncertain future on the BBC programme, Ncuti emphasised that he had settled into the role.
He added: “It feels so much fun now. I’ve relaxed and [the Doctor] seems to have sunk down a little bit deeper, from my chest into my gut.”
Although he is loving the part, Ncuti revealed it hasn’t always been smooth sailing.
The actor recalled a moment where he was pulled aside by showrunner Russell T. Davies and scolded after he swore on set whilst wearing his ‘Doctor Who’ costume.
He said: “The only time I’ve ever gotten in trouble for anything was when I swore [while wearing] a Doctor Who costume.
“I got called into Russell’s office. Woo! And he let me know that that’s not acceptable. He said, ‘Do what you want when you’re out of costume, but when you’re in costume, do not let us catch you swearing.’
“I was like, ‘fair enough’. And I guess that was a lesson. For the last four years, I’ve been co-leading an X-rated show, and so I’m on a constant journey of learning what it is to be a PG role model and the lead of a family show.”

Love Island inspired hotels could be coming

OHMYGOSSIP — Hotels with a ‘Love Island’ theme could be on the way.
Bosses on the ITV dating reality show are hoping to capitalise on its success, by registering the ‘Love Island’ name so it can be used to create their own hotels.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “It may sound like a bit of a whacky idea but in many ways ‘Love Island’ hotels are a no-brainer.
“After all, the dating show is all about people basking in the sunshine by the poolside in luxurious accommodation.
“Then there’s the added prospect of finding love with someone while you are away. So they’re just trying to replicate the vibe of the show.
“Why not go the whole hog and give the hotels a total ‘Love Island’ feel?”
A brand-new show will be returning to ITV2 next month titled ‘Love Island: All Stars’, which will see former contestants return to the villa.
Rumoured contestants include Kaz Crossley, Faye Winter, Ovie Soko and Joe Garratt, whilst Maya Jama will be back as host.

‘It was very hard, because there are so many people who are no longer with us…’ Sue Johnston can only now re-watch The Royle Family

OHMYGOSSIP — Sue Johnston has only recently been able to re-watch ‘The Royle Family’ due to missing all her dearly departed co-stars.
The 80-year-old actress’ favourite episode is the 2006 Christmas special ‘The Queen of Sheba’ – which saw the heartbreaking passing of Nana, Norma Speakman, played by the late Liz Smith who died in real life aged 91 in 2016.
But Sue admits it has been tough for her to watch back episodes of the BBC sitcom as Liz, Caroline Aherne – the show’s creator and actress who portrayed Denise – Peter Martin and Doreen Keogh, who played next-door neighbours Joe and Mary Caroll, are no longer with us.
Caroline passed away in July 2016 at the age of just 52 from lung cancer.
Sue told Radio Times magazine: “It was very hard, because there are so many people in it who are no longer with us, but ‘The Queen of Sheba’ is my favourite, and I watch it with a lot of pride.
“The first series was rerun the other day, and do you know, little kids now ask for selfies with me because they love it as much as the older generations did. I think how proud Caroline would have been to know it’s still loved.”
Sue – who played Denise’s on-screen mother, Barbara, opposite Ricky Tomlinson’s couch potato Jim Royle and their son Anthony, played by Ralf Little – described the show as “one of the happiest jobs” of her career.
The former ‘Brookside’ star said: “It was one of the happiest jobs I have ever done. And yes, I miss her [Caroline]. All the time.
“She’s another one who would have loved to have got old and grown wrinkles… Although maybe she would have had Botox!”
Sue will appear with Craig Cash – who co-created the show with Caroline and played Denise’s on-screen husband Dave Best – in a special documentary marking her life.
‘Caroline Aherne: Queen of Comedy’ will air on Christmas Day (25.12.23) on BBC Two.
