Star Wars chief open to ‘interesting’ Rated-R pitches

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Star Wars’ chief Dave Filoni won’t rule out an R-rated movie for the iconic franchise.
The executive – who serves as Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer – has addressed the possibility of taking the space saga to another level after Marvel and Disney made the surprising decision to approve ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ as an R-rated film.
Asked if the same could happen for ‘Star Wars’, he told the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast: “Sure, I mean, I don’t know.
“I think it’s interesting. The bottom line is whatever we do, it has to be really well done.”
There is a balance to strike for the long running franchise, which was created by George Lucas and first launched with ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ in 1977.
Recent spin-off shows like ‘Andor’ have taken the storytelling in a “different” direction, but at the root of ‘Star Wars’ is a need to fuel “the imagination of the kids out there”.
Filoni explained: “I think when you look at something that is taken as different like ‘Andor’, it’s so well done, and Tony [Gilroy, showrunner] and his team do such a phenomenal job, that I think that there’s an audience for that.
“I think also with that audience, I also though want to still be hitting the imagination of the kids out there, so that they can grow up and appreciate those things.”
‘Star Wars’ as a whole manages to crossover into “all types of styles”, with storytelling at its root as each filmmaker or showrunner given the chance to put their own stamp on their projects.
He added: “[The franchise] encompasses all types of styles, and the creative of the particular story driving it is the most important thing, and they should do something that’s within their comfort zone. Otherwise, we’re to imagine that everyone’s going to come in and pretend they’re George Lucas.”
However, despite any differences, there are some “principles” that always ring true.
Filoni said: “We’re just different and that’s okay. But there are principles about choices and being a good person and being more selfless and getting over your fears, and those are timeless no matter what style you’re talking about.”

‘Before we get too old!’ Goldie Hawn wants to appear in film with famous family

OHMYGOSSIP — Goldie Hawn wants to work with her famous family in a movie, before everyone “gets too old”.
The 78-year-old actress is keen to share the big screen with her partner, actor Kurt Russell, 73, and her children, fellow actors Kate, 45, and Oliver Hudson, 47 – who she has with her ex-husband Bill Hudson, 74 – and her and Kurt’s actor son Wyatt Russell, 37.
Speaking on the ‘Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa’ podcast, she said: “What I would love, actually – before we all get too old – [it] would be so great to do a movie together.
“Wouldn’t it? It would be so fun and so crazy and oh, my God.”
Hawn also hinted her family are set to star in an animation.
She added: “We might do something with Oliver that is a cartoon, so in other words, we would all be the voices of that.
“That would be a lot of fun.”
Should Hawn’s idea come to fruition it wouldn’t be the first time she has appeared alongside some of her family in movies.
She starred opposite Kurt and Oliver in 2018 Netflix film ‘The Christmas Chronicles’, in which Kurt portrayed Santa Claus, she starred as Mrs. Claus, and Oliver portrayed fireman Doug Pierce.
Goldie and Kurt also reprised their roles for a follow up, 2020 film ‘The Christmas Chronicles 2’.
Hawn’s latest comments come after she insisted in 2017 that she wouldn’t make a movie with Kate because it would come with “too much baggage”.
She told the Los Angeles Times newspaper: “We would love it, but it’s really interesting – unless it’s something great, honey, you don’t do it. And I’ll tell you another thing: mother and daughter, or son or whatever – sometimes it doesn’t work. You have to look at the reality, because we’re very well known apart. There’s a lot of expectation coming into it. You want to talk about baggage!”

Russell T Davies has rejected offers to turn beloved show into stage musical

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell T Davies has turned down offers for an ‘It’s A Sin’ musical.
The 61-year-old screenwriter penned the drama for Channel 4 – which saw pop star Olly Alexander star as gay teenager Ritchie Tozer growing up during the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 1980s and 1990s – back in 2021, and while the limited series was a huge success, he has no desire to profit off “something that’s very dark” by giving it the West End treatment.
Speaking at the ‘BAFTA: A Life In Pictures’ event, he’s quoted by RadioTimes.com as saying: “A lot of people came to me after that, saying, ‘make a musical’ and I just wanted to move on.
“I didn’t want to wallow. It was very strange, with its success – it was very hard to celebrate, because it was this enormous success and yet such a tragic true story.
“A lot of good names, posh names, said to me, ‘Do a musical’ and I just didn’t want to stay there. I thought ‘I’ve done it’, and I felt like I’d be treading water or trying to repeat a success or almost profiting off something that’s very dark…”
Russell admitted he “might go back to it one day”, but it’s currently not on the cards.
The series got rave reviews, but the showrunner previousy insisted he has “moved on” with no plans for a return.
According to the Daily Star newspaper, he said back in 2022: “I can see it had an extraordinary resonance but you sit down with the next script and it’s a blank page and I think ‘I’ve got no idea what I’m doing’.
“You think ‘I can’t do that again’, which is why there isn’t a second series. I just like to move on and do something different.”
Meanwhile, Russell only agreed to his current ‘Doctor Who’ return because he has stories he “wanted to write”.
He told the ‘Table Manners’ podcast last year: “It is lovely, I only came back because I had things to do, things I wanted to do and stories I wanted to write.
“It doesn’t feel like I am going back as cliche as it sounds, it feels like I am going forward.”

Joey Essex bans Love Island contestants from mentioning TOWIE, says ex-Islander

OHMYGOSSIP — Joey Essex has banned ‘Love Island’ contestants from mentioning ‘The Only Way is Essex’.
The 33-year-old reality TV veteran – who became the first ever celebrity to enter the civilian version of the ITV2 dating competition at the beginning of this season – became a bit fed up with all the references to the ITVBe reality show flying around the villa, according to recently dumped Islander Patsy Field.
The 29-year-old office administrator told the online edition of Closer magazine: “Everyone was quoting ‘TOWIE’. All of the girls were quoting ‘TOWIE’. Joey put us on a ‘TOWIE’ quote ban at one point and said, ‘We’re going to need to drop it now.’ ”
Patsy defended the habit by pointing out they weren’t poking fun at Joey – who was coupled up with Samantha Kenny, before moving on to Grace Jackson – but paying homage to Gemma Collins, 43, who has made a name for herself as a reality TV icon.
She added: “But we couldn’t help it, and we said, ‘We’re not actually quoting TOWIE, we’re just quoting The GC.’
“She is a living legend, so can you blame us really?”
Joey – who has appeared on several reality TV shows, such as ‘Dancing on Ice’, ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, ‘Celebs Go Dating’ and many more – hit the headlines when he entered the ‘Love Island’ villa as a bombshell on launch night.
But he is not receiving any special treatment on the Maya Jama-fronted show.
A source told MailOnline: “Joey is being treated like any other ‘Love Island’ contestant, he’s playing by the same rules and won’t be given any preferential treatment.
“He hasn’t been paid an appearance fee or any money at all for signing up for the show, not a penny.
“On ‘Love Island’, it is all about the exposure and for Joey, it means more than that, too.
“He’s looking for someone to settle down with.”

‘He’s very good looking!’ Love Island bombshell sets sights on Joey Essex

OHMYGOSSIP — New ‘Love Island’ bombshell Matilda Draper has set her sights on getting to know Joey Essex, Wil Anderson, and Sean Stone.
The 24-year-old recruitment consultant arrived in the villa on Wednesday night’s (19.06.24) episode, alongside fellow bombshell Konnor Ewudzi.
She said: “Sean seems so kind and has a lovely heart, I think he’s really beautiful too, he’s my number one.
“Wil is fit but I can’t work him out yet.
“Joey is also very good looking but I don’t know if he’s a bit of me.
“I want someone with a kind heart, funny and confident. Looks wise, I like tan, good teeth and muscles.”
Following her arrival in the villa, Matilda shouted up to fellow Islander Ronnie Vint: “Ronnie boy!”
Ronnie was stood on a balcony, but he didn’t appear to recognise her at first, saying: “I don’t know her … I swear I don’t know her …”
He then said: “Oh my god, I do know her. My pal was seeing her for months.”
Konnor, a 28-year-old barber, has set his sights on three girls who seem to be in fairly strong couples, in Grace Jackson – who is coupled up with Joey – Nicole Samuel, who is with Ciaran Davies, and Wil’s partner Uma Jammeh.
He said: “Grace is a very pretty girl. Uma has a cool vibe and Nicole seems really bubbly.
“I am ready to find somebody. I’ve been in a couple of relationships and now feels like the right time as I have learnt from past relationships. I’ll be able to pick out the red flags now.
“I’ve got a different look and style to a lot of people. I’m an ex-holiday rep so I like to engage with people and I’m full of energy.”
‘Love Island’ returns at 9pm tonight on ITV2 and ITVX, and on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player in Ireland.

Katie Piper ‘gutted’ to miss show after ‘complications’ from eye surgery

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Piper was “gutted” to miss her ‘Breakfast Show’ after “complications” from eye surgery.
The ex ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star – who was left blind in one eye following an horrific acid attack in 2008 – confessed via video that she was heartbroken to have to take a two-week break from the ITV programme, after she suffered “quite a bad reaction” and an “unexpected medical procedure”.
The 40-year-old TV personality said on her Instagram: “I just wanted to make a little video to say thank you all for all your messages, DMs, comments and support, and just to let you know, I’m good, I’m doing fine.
“I know lots of you have had trauma and things happen to you that means maybe you live with disease, disability, sickness, or maybe some kind of mental scars if not physical scars. ”
Katie admitted it is “annoying” to accept she does have to undergo medical procedures at times, because she is “different” from her peers.
She said: “And you’ll know that sometimes, as determined as you are to not let come into your present or your future, or make you different from everybody else, sometimes the annoying thing is you are different from other people and medical things happen and they can hold you back even if it is temporary.
“And that is what has happened to me recently unfortunately. I was so gutted to not be a part of the breakfast show.
“Anyone who knows me will know I hate calling in sick for work or letting people down or not showing up, and unfortunately that’s what happened.
“I had further complications and quite a bad infection.
“I’ve had to admit defeat and say as much as I don’t want any of my past to determine my future, sometimes I have to accept that that is part of being a burn survivor, and it’s held me back and got me down for the past couple of weeks, but now I’m recovered and better.”
The ‘Loose Women’ panellist admitted her return to work had left her feeling more like “her old self”.
She added: “I’m learning to be more patient with myself and never take the little things for granted, because they definitely the big things.”
Katie didn’t give any details about the nature of the procedure, but in December, she spoke about having a tarsorrhaphy, explaining that “it’s an operation done in theatre and your eye is fully or partially stitched up”.
She added: “I’ve had a lot of problems with my eye in the last year and a half, I don’t like to go on about it because there’s always somebody worse off,” before saying that the outcome wouldn’t be permanent.

Sue Johnston honoured with Freedom of the City of Liverpool

OHMYGOSSIP — Sue Johnston says being awarded the Freedom of the City of Liverpool has taken her “breath away”.
The ‘Royle Family’ star – who is best known for playing Barbara Royle in the iconic BBC sitcom, and Sheila Grant in defunct Merseyside soap ‘Brookside’ – was honoured in a ceremony at the city’s council chamber, where she was celebrated by Liverpool legends including Beatles singer Sir Paul McCartney and former Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp.
The 80-year-old actress – who was born in Warrington, but lives in Liverpool and is a fan of the Reds – said: “This honour is so deep, we who live in this city love it.”
Musician Paul – who received the same treatment four decades ago for his work with The Beatles, and his wider impact on the music industry – appeared via video to make a joke about how the city allowed its recipients to shepherd their flocks through the Albert Docks.
The 82-year-old rock legend said: “If you need a couple of sheep to borrow, I’m your man,” before adding an “alright, la”.
Jurgen – who said goodbye to Anfield and the Reds at the end of the Premier League season in May, and received the same recognition in 2022 – admitted he was “really proud” to be connected to Sue.
In a pre-recorded message, he said: “I know you really deserve it. Don’t forget, you’ll never walk alone.”
City officials including Lord Mayor Richard Kemp gave a speech about how Liverpool had embraced Sue “into our hearts, big style”, and praised her “outstanding contribution to the TV and film industry”, and Liverpool Council leader Liam Robinson gushed about Sue being not only being a “legend” in Liverpool, but also a “national treasure”.

Alicia Vikander hopes to create more awareness of Katherine Parr with Firebrand portrayal

OHMYGOSSIP — Alicia Vikander hopes that her performance in ‘Firebrand’ makes people more aware of Katherine Parr.
The 35-year-old actress plays the sixth and final wife of Henry VIII in the historical drama and admitted that she knew little about the Tudor widow before taking the part in Karim Ainouz’s film.
Alicia told the Just for Variety podcast: “I must confess, I almost felt a bit embarrassed when I was sent the script because I think if I knew anything, it was probably more about the wives that didn’t make it.
“I was, in one way, sad. But then I realised speaking to other people, it seemed like that was the general feel for most, that we have the least knowledge about this woman who actually did survive X amount of years living with this man, and even outlived him.”
Jude Law portrays Henry VIII in the movie and Alicia recalled how he had to break from character as the production went on.
The ‘Tomb Raider’ star said: “I think he stayed within that character a bit more in the beginning, the first week maybe, to just feel what it’s like… The beard, too – that takes up a big space.
“But when we got further into the shooting, actually started to do some of the more tough scenes, then you needed a break from it, to have a little breather before you do the next deep dive.”
The film focuses on Parr’s turbulent relationship with the Tudor monarch and she thinks that her character needed to stay with Henry VIII to “justify her existence”.
Vikander explained: “She had to create a relationship with this man.
“I think, if anything, she maybe loved the monarch and the king, because from reading her texts, she feels it’s a role that she sees herself within, almost like she’s been chosen by God to become a queen.”

Ethan Hawke to star in Richard Linklater’s movie Blue Moon

OHMYGOSSIP — Ethan Hawke is set to star in Richard Linklater’s ‘Blue Moon’.
The 53-year-old actor will collaborate with the director for the ninth time on the film that will begin production in Dublin this summer.
Other cast members to have signed up for the flick include Margaret Qualley, Andrew Scott and Bobby Cannavale.
‘Blue Moon’ has been written by Robert Kaplow and tells the story of the final days of Lorenz Hart – one half of the successful Rodgers and Hart songwriting duo – in 1943.
The movie is primarily set on the opening night of ‘Oklahoma!’ which marked Richard Rodgers’s first collaboration with Hart’s replacement Oscar Hammerstein II.
Linklater said: “Robert, Ethan and I have been developing this story for over a decade and are excited and grateful that the time has come to bring this to life.”
Sony Pictures Classics have acquired the worldwide rights to the picture with Sony releasing it around the globe.
A spokesperson for Sony Pictures Classics said: “Almost a year ago, Rick, Ethan, and John reached out to us with Robert Kaplow’s amazing script ‘Blue Moon’.
“Helping them over the following months to bring it together has been incredibly exciting and now, on the verge of production, with this fantastic cast and crew in place and Rick at the helm, we are thrilled to finally announce it and bring the film to audiences everywhere in the world.”
Linklater has directed the movie ‘Hit Man’ but feels that the risk-averse approach that exists in the film industry meant that studios weren’t interested in the story at first.
The 63-year-old filmmaker said: “You don’t get fired for doing a sequel or an origin story, something that already exists.
“You don’t get into trouble for what’s obvious and commercial. What changed is that films got greenlit by the marketing department and then it’s become really safe choices.
“I think of ‘Hit Man’ as a movie to have fun with, there should always be room for some sexy couple movies, these are standards in cinema of what people want to see quite often.”

Molly-Mae Hague reveals when she and Tommy Fury want another child

OHMYGOSSIP — Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury aren’t planning to have another baby “anytime soon”.
The former ‘Love Island’ stars welcomed daughter Bambi, who is now 18 months, in January last year, but Molly-Mae has confirmed they are looking to tie the knot before they add to their brood.
When asked by a fan on Instagram if “baby number two” could be on the cards, she replied: “Not anytime soon … wedding first”
Boxer Tommy popped the question to Molly-Mae last summer, but she has now admitted their nuptials don’t look like happening until next year.
Quizzed on whether her wedding will be in 2025, she wrote: “[Crying face emoji] It’s looking that way.”
Molly-Mae also admitted having their daughter has brought her and Tommy “closer”, and she loves parenting with the star.
She said: “I think Bambi has made us closer. Any bickers we have are never actually about her! Parenting together, especially recently has been amazing.”
In May, Tommy admitted he is “in no rush” to marry Molly.
He told Closer magazine: “We’re not putting pressure on it. We’re enjoying being engaged and enjoying that period of our life, so we’re in no rush.”
He also shut down any speculation about whether they will be having another child, adding: “I don’t know. You can’t plan things like that. It just happens, doesn’t it?”
The couple got engaged in July 2023 when Tommy staged a surprised proposal during a trip to Ibiza, and presented his love with a £600,000 ring.
Molly-Mae later admitted the romantic moment came as a huge surprise as she had no idea Tommy was planning to propose.
She had actually been in a bad mood prior to the big moment.
In a video posted on YouTube, she explained: “This vlog was recorded before everything went down but I couldn’t not come on and say hi, say I’m a fiancée!
“It was recorded a couple days before we left for Ibiza, an extremely real day in my life, it’s comedy gold some of the comments, [me asking] why are we going to Ibiza? Stressing about packing because it was so last minute.
“I was completely fooled. I thought we were going for something completely different.”

‘She was a great person in there!’ Jake Quickenden calls for Love Islander to return

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Quickenden has called for Samantha Kenny to return to ‘Love Island’.
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star would like to see the 26-year-old make-up artist make a shock comeback during the Casa Amor stage of the ITV2 dating show.
Jake wrote on Instagram: “Bring Samantha back for Casa Amor she was a great person in there!! Gutted for her (sic)”
Samantha was dumped from the show earlier this week after she was left single when her then-partner Joey Essex was stolen by bombshell Grace Jackson, who is also an ex of the ‘TOWIE’.
Joey smooched Grace on several occasions while still coupled up with Samantha, and her departure from the programme led to a backlash on social media.
One viewer wrote: “pretending he bothered, hope he never on tv again (sic)”
But Jake insisted: “Let’s remember it’s only a tv show! (sic)”
Samantha admitted this week she was “devastated” to have departed the villa.
She said: “Obviously I am devastated to leave all of the girls behind but I am very excited now to see what my future holds and look forward to seeing what is next.
“I was true to myself and didn’t feel like it was a waste of my time because I followed what I felt was right for me. When it comes to Joey, I think if I knew what I know now, I perhaps would have done things differently.”
Samantha now wishes she had got to know Ronnie Vint better.
She added: “Ronnie’s more my type than Joey was, but I feel like Ronnie didn’t pursue anything with me because he didn’t want to go up against Joey.”

Lauryn Goodman ‘to join Celebs Go Dating’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauryn Goodman looks set to appear in ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
The 33-year-old social media influencer hit the headlines this year when England footballer Kyle Walker confirmed in January he was the father of Lauryn’s daughter, whose name is not known, while his wife Annie Kilner was pregnant with their fourth child.
Lauryn – who also has four-year-old son Kairo with Kyle, after they hooked up in 2019 when he was separated from Annie – is said to be excited about looking for love in the 13th series of the E4 show.
A friend close to Lauryn told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Lauryn going on the show is a big step and shows Kyle and what happened with them is very much in the past.
“She is looking forward to the dating aspect.
“That said you can guarantee Kyle’s ears will be burning when they film the show as his name will no doubt come up plenty of times.
“Lauren is excited to go on the show and just wants to have some fun, but if she can meet a new man on the TV show or a potential boyfriend that will be a bonus.”
Lauren is expected to be the late arrival in the upcoming ‘Celebs Go Dating’ series, which is to air later this year.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “She is quite a sensational signing for the show, not least because she now has a huge profile – and she’s one of the country’s best known singletons now.
“Almost every celeb who goes into CGD has some kind of backstory involving their private life, but Lauryn probably has one of the most sensational.
“But she won’t be getting any special treatment from the experts on the show as all the applicants get an equal hand in finding love.”
On the show, ‘dating agents’ Paul Carrick Brunson, Anna Williamson, and Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn attempt to help a host of celebrities find love.
Series 13 is also expected to feature former ‘Coronation Street’ star Helen Flanagan, Love Island’s Chris Taylor, former ‘Hollyoaks’ actress and singer Jamelia, ex-‘Gogglebox’ star Stephen Lustig-Webb, Made in Chelsea’s Tristan Phipps, and ‘Married at First Sight’ cast member Ella Morgan.

James Corden and Ruth Jones yet to hand in Gavin and Stacey Christmas special script

OHMYGOSSIP — James Corden and Ruth Jones haven’t handed in the ‘Gavin and Stacey’ Christmas special script yet.
Nearly everyone but the beloved BBC sitcom’s creators – whose characters Smithy and Nessa’s unanswered proposal of marriage left viewers shocked at the end of the 2019 Christmas special – are in the dark about the storyline for the programme’s finale.
The BBC’s Director of Comedy, Jon Petrie, admitted the script is kept within a “very, very tight circle” while chatting at the BBC’s comedy showcase.
He is quoted by the Daily Mail newspaper as saying: “I genuinely still haven’t seen the script, James and Ruth won’t let us look at it yet.
“Which I think is great, they are really keeping it under wraps and don’t want people to see it outside of their very, very tight circle until they’re 100 per cent certain of it.”
Jon admitted the top-secret element might be hard to maintain during filming.
He said: “I think it will be hard when they are filming it because it’s such a huge show and everyone will want to watch, everyone in all the locations where it’s shot, it will be obvious what’s being shot.
“I suppose you have to take it as a compliment that it means so much to so many people.”
The pair agreed to make a finale episode of the show – which debuted in 2007 and ended in 2010, but came back for the festive edition nine years later – after James, 47, returned to the UK from the US after hosting ‘The Late, Late Show’ on CBS.
Most of the cast are said to have signed up to return, including the titular characters – who are played by Mathew Horne, 45, and Joanna Page – along with the fan favourites Rob Brydon, 59, Alison Steadman, 77, and Larry Lamb, 76.

‘That was the tricky part’: Austin Butler had to balance The Bikeriders and Dune: Part Two

OHMYGOSSIP — Austin Butler had to juggle his commitments on ‘The Bikeriders’ and ‘Dune: Part Two’.
The 32-year-old star plays Benny in the new film about about a Chicago motorcycle club and explained that he had to work on the project while also starring in the contrasting role of antagonist Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Austin said: “That was the tricky part to figure out. I knew that I was going to do both films before I started ‘Dune’, but I had to figure out how to front-load the prep on ‘Bikeriders’ and start training on a motorcycle.
“So I was getting used to those old motorcycles as I was doing the knife training and stuff for ‘Dune’, and then I put ‘Bikeriders’ on hold for a bit as I got closer to ‘Dune’.”
The ‘Elvis’ star continued: “I got really invested in that, and then my schedule on ‘Dune’ allowed me to come back to the States for two weeks between blocks.
“I shot for a month, and then I had two weeks off, and then I shot (‘Dune’) for another month, and then I had two weeks off, I went and did motorcycle training and then I went back to ‘Dune’.
“So once I got into filming (‘The Bikeriders’), I felt that I had a grasp on that just to make it easier for us.”
‘The Bikeriders’ is based on a 1967 photo-book of the same name by Danny Lyon but Austin had little to go on as his character barely features in the material.
He explained: “There’s all these interviews in the book with most of the other characters, but Benny was never interviewed and his face also wasn’t photographed. You only ever see from behind or the top of his head as he’s leaning over a pool table.
“So it was a lot of time and imagination in figuring out what makes him tick.”

Eddie Murphy lauds Kevin Bacon’s ‘great villain’ in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Murphy has hailed Kevin Bacon’s “great villain” in ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’.
The 63-year-old actor returns as detective Axel Foley in the latest movie in the action comedy franchise and thinks that Bacon’s antagonist Captain Cade Grant will help the series earn a restoration to former glories after the disappointing ‘Beverly Hills Cop III’.
Eddie told ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’: “He is the perfect villain. One of the things that makes ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ work is the first two ‘Beverly Hills Cops’ are really good, and the third one is a little soft. And it’s because we didn’t have a great villain.
“And now you’ve got this great villain in Kevin Bacon. I don’t know what it is about leading men who do villain roles, he’s got this great, great villain.”
Meanwhile, Eddie confessed that he “would rather not do any stunts” at the age of 63 as he is not as agile as he was when the original movie was released back in 1984.
The ‘Nutty Professor’ star said: “I did ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ when I was 21, and I’m 63 now.
“Now, I would rather not do any stunts. We were shooting something and the director said, ‘I want you to come out of this place and run down those steps.’ After we shot and he’s like, ‘Can you come down with more urgency? Faster?’ And I was like, ‘No!'”
Eddie has enjoyed huge success as both an actor and comedian but is still best known for his portrayal of Axel Foley whenever he travels abroad.
He said: “‘Beverly Hills Cop’ was my first movie that I’m the lead in. If I travel overseas they call me Axel Foley.
“Axel is an everyman. He’s not a superhero or a super-cop, he’s the everyman that rises to the occasion. I think that’s why people like it. And more than anything, he’s funny.”
