Kanye West: A spirit was speaking through me during slavery comments

OHMYGOSSIP — Kanye West believes “a spirit was speaking through” him when he made his controversial comments about slavery.
The 41-year-old rapper received backlash after he gave an interview three months ago in which he claimed the 400 years of black slavery was a “choice” made by those enslaved, and after finally apologising for the comments earlier this week, he has now said he was being contacted by a “negro spiritual” at the time.
He said: “I think in that moment, I believe a spirit was speaking through me, to me. Because I even have been in situations where I choose to be enslaved, I choose to not diversify, I choose to wade in the water as the like … certain negro spirituals basically tell us to stay in this place and be okay.”
The ‘Gold Digger’ hitmaker called on people to look at “other cultures” to find the best ways to deal with things such as family and finances, and said it’s time people stopped “limiting” themselves through definitions.
Speaking during an appearance on Chicago radio station Power 92, Kanye said: “A lot of times we’re just programmed or wired to think like that, but we’ve gotta unprogram and look at things that are happening in other cultures, and the way that other cultures deal with each other, deal with family, deal with money, and apply that. Don’t say ‘Well it ain’t black to do it,’ because what’s the definition of black? We’re constantly changing the definition of black, and we can’t be limited or overly defined because definitions can limit you.”
Earlier this week, Kanye finally addressed the controversial comments he had made back in May, saying he was sorry to anyone he had offended.
He said: “I don’t know if I properly apologised for how that slave comment made people feel, so I want to take this moment right now to say that I’m sorry for hurting.
“I’m sorry for the 1-2 effect of the MAGA [Make America Great Again] hat into the slave comment and I’m sorry for people who felt let down by that moment.”
In his original interview in May, Kanye had said: “When you hear about slavery for 400 years – for 400 years? That sounds like a choice.”

Joe Jonas: DNCE helped me chill out

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Jonas says being in DNCE made him “chill out.”
The 29-year-old singer – who rose to fame as a member of the pop rock band the Jonas Brothers, alongside his brothers Kevin, 30, and Nick, 25 – has revealed that needing to become a “perfect” role model for Disney after the group starred in ‘Camp Rock’ piled on too much pressure, so he was thankful to be able to relax more when he started up new band DNCE.
Speaking to NME magazine, Joe said: “Sometimes it’s a hard mentality to break. But I think it even goes back further than that – to working with Disney for years and, like, feeling like you’re a role model when you didn’t ask to be one. But you’re so young and you’re put in that box. It was similar when I was being looked at as a heartthrob.
“It was freeing for me, actually, to be with these guys. Because we could let loose and just have fun. I used to feel like I had to be perfect and would beat myself if little things went wrong in the live show – if I flubbed a lyric or someone messed up a solo.
“Now, we laugh about it and just roll with the punches. If I forget a lyric now, the front row will sing it for me, you know? Being in this band has definitely made me chill out.”
Joe – who got engaged to 22-year-old ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Sophie Tuner last October – also admitted he didn’t expect the bands first single ‘Cake By The Ocean’ to do so well, because the song’s title had been initially met with criticism.
He added: “Honestly, I should have screen-shotted some of the comments on Instagram when we first posted a teaser saying ‘new band, coming soon, debut single ‘Cake By The Ocean’. People were like, ‘What the f**k is this? Is this really the name of the song?’ It took about a month before people were like, ‘Oh, you guys are serious. This isn’t a joke. This isn’t some SNL skit. You guys are actually a real band.’
“We did a lot of gigs in New York City. We took over a bar there and were supposed to play a showcase once a night. We ended up playing like eight or nine times a night. It became a party, and we got a spillover from the nightclub next door. We were playing to a really fun, entertaining crowd with a lot of club kids, and that’s kind of how our fanbase started.”

BBC set to launch a new baking show

OHMYGOSSIP — The BBC is launching a new baking show.
After losing ‘The Great British Bake Off’ to Channel 4, the broadcaster is attempting to replace the hit show with a new cooking series called ‘Celebration’.
The BBC have already released two unsuccessful food-based shows called ‘Britain’s Best Home Cook’ – which featured ‘Bake Off’ star Mary Berry – and ‘Big Family Cooking Showdown’, hosted by Nadiya Hussain, the winner of ‘Bake Off’ in 2015.
The new show will air on BBC Two and the application form for the programme says it’s seeking “amateur cooks and bakers” who want to be part of an exciting food show.
Speaking to the Sun Online, a TV source said: “The BBC has been trying to fill the huge gap left by ‘Bake Off’ moving to Channel 4.
“They’ve brought out Mary Berry for ‘Best Home Cook’, which was a bit flat. And they had ex-winner Nadiya Hussain for the ‘Big Family Cooking Showdown’, which had to be overhauled for a second series that no one really wanted.
“And now they’re launching yet another cookery show that stinks of the ‘Bake Off’. It might have got huge numbers back in the day for them but the obsession is getting out of hand.
“‘Celebration’ is even starting on BBC Two, just like ‘Bake Off’ did all those years ago.”
The second series of ‘Bake Off’ on Channel 4 launched earlier this week and had ratings of around 6.3 million viewers.

Lucy Pargeter didn’t think twice about tackling ‘harrowing’ storyline

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Pargeter didn’t think twice about tackling her latest “harrowing” storyline on ‘Emmerdale
The 41-year-old actress – who plays pregnant Chas Dingle on the ITV soap – has insisted she didn’t have any hesitations about her on-screen character’s latest drama, in which she and her partner Paddy have to come to terms with the news that their daughter won’t survive after birth.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, the actress – who gave birth to twin daughters Missy Mabel and Betsey Maggie in 2017 – shared: “I didn’t think ‘I can’t do it’. It’s my job, I have to do what I’m gifted with, and it’s an amazing storyline.
“I try and put a positive spin on things so instead of thinking ‘oh gosh, I’ve gotta be thinking about my kids all the time’, well at least it will make the emotion more raw.”
The horrific storyline has left fans wondering if Chas and Paddy will be able to survive the experience.
But Lucy is desperate that the couple manage to pull through for each other.
Asked whether they’ll be able to overcome their heartbreak, Lucy added: “I really hope they do.
“Hopefully they are going to do it, as we’re doing this storyline, which is two people going through the same experience but have different ways of getting through it.
“So not only have we got the next bit of storyline to do, we’ve also got the aftermath of what happens, which I’m sure is going to be equally difficult.”

Olivia Cooke: We need more tough women on TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Cooke wants to see more “durable and tough” women on TV.
The 24-year-old actress stars in ITV’s upcoming mini-series ‘Vanity Fair’ as a witty, calculating anti-hero, and ahead of the first episode being aired, Olivia has revealed what drew her to the character of Becky Sharp.
She shared: “She’s elastic. She just bounces back.
“It was really wonderful to play a woman who does that, because I feel like women are really durable and tough, but sometimes it’s not presented that way on film and TV.”
Olivia is eager to play more roles of a similar nature in the future and for that reason, she’s confident that ageing will actually benefit her career.
She told the Independent newspaper: “I’m quite excited to get into my 30s. I’m 24, so I’m on that cusp of playing late teenage roles. I’m excited to age a little bit and play a woman.”
Meanwhile, Olivia feels that the #MeToo movement has prompted a discernible culture change on TV and film sets.
Olivia said she doesn’t expect her male co-stars to suddenly become stand-offish, but nor does she want them to behave like a “d**k”.
The actress – who starred in the Steven Spielberg-directed movie ‘Ready Player One’ earlier this year – explained: “I think people are just reminding themselves to be a bit conscientious.
“I mean, they don’t need to not speak to us – just don’t be gross and don’t be a d**k. It’s dead easy.”

Roxanne Pallett breaks down over fears her housemates hate her

OHMYGOSSIP — Roxanne Pallett broke down in the toilets over fears that her fellow housemates hate her.
The ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ contestant opened up to housemate Ben Jardine about fears that other members of the house think their relationship is inappropriate.
Prior to her breakdown, fellow contestant Hardeep Singh Kohli had warned the brunette beauty about her flirting with Ben, despite the fact she has a fiance on the outside world.
Ranting to Ben, she said: “He was so rude to me and so patronising and quite passive-aggressive and I did the right thing. I went to him direct.
“I went to him and I said ‘Hardeep I really need to speak to you about something that I’ve heard that’s hurt me.’ But he didn’t care. I don’t know why he’s being so mean to me.”
Ben consoles her and is heard saying: “Hey, come here, you’re not on your own because I’ve got ya. Promise ya, I love ya and I’ll always be with you. I’m not having anyone mess with my little Roxy.”
Ben confessed his true feelings for Roxanne earlier on in the week, admitting that he was in love with her and she was his soulmate.
However, the former ‘Emmerdale’ actress was concerned with what others think of their relationship.
She said: “Because everyone’s going off into little groups and when you hear that one person said something mean about you, you start to question everyone else. And you start to get paranoid and think … and then question everything.”
She continued: “Everyone’s implying that something inappropriate is happening here. And I’m like ‘Ben looks at me like a little sister.’
“It’s Gabby [Allen] you fancy. You’ve got a million women on the outside vying for your attention and I’m getting the blame because we get on, sing and dance.”

Michael Caine: Donald Trump is funny

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Caine thinks Donald Trump is funny.
The 85-year-old actor has previously socialised with the American billionaire and while they’ve become more distant since Trump won the US Presidential election in 2016, Michael has always found him to be good company.
He shared: “I know him quite well. We went to dinner. He made me laugh.”
Despite Trump’s success in the business world, Michael was still shocked to learn of his ambition to become the President.
And the veteran star – who hails from London – thinks America currently finds itself in the midst of a “strange” situation.
He told the Guardian newspaper: “I don’t know him very well and I feel I know him less now than when I knew him a little bit.
“When someone said he was running for president, I said: ‘President of what? Marks & Spencer?’ I’m sure he was quite surprised himself to become president.
“On one hand, he’s a danger and unpopular. But suddenly he’s become very successful: the stock markets are up, and employment, including the Spanish and blacks. The figures are starting to be on his side, so you wonder, you know, what the hell is going on?
“The point is that his people, they’ve never been represented politically and they are a majority. It’s very strange.”
Meanwhile, Michael – who is one of the movie industry’s most recognisable stars – previously revealed he was once turned away from a small part in a film after the casting director said he would never go “anywhere as an actor”.
He shared: “I remember going to see a British casting director about a small part, and he said, ‘I’m not going to give you it, but I’m going to do you a favour’.
“I said, ‘What?’ He had a suggestion, ‘Get a regular job. You’re never going anywhere as an actor’. I went away and got another job. As an actor.”

Kanye West isn’t taking his bipolar medication

OHMYGOSSIP — Kanye West hasn’t taken his bipolar medication in five months – but feels “super calm”.
The 41-year-old rapper revealed through his track ‘Yikes’ – which was included on his new album ‘Ye’, released in June – that he has been diagnosed with the mental health disorder, and has now claimed that although he hasn’t taken his prescribed medication for several months, he doesn’t feel affected by the condition.
He said: “I have to step ahead of the whole crazy thing, and let me tell you, I’ve been diagnosed with bipolarity and I haven’t taken medication in five months and I’m talking to you super calm. I get my sleep. I don’t drink a lot of alcohol. I drink a lot of water, and I work on my diet, and work on my mind. And I talk and be around people who love me.”
The ‘Gold Digger’ hitmaker also referenced his mental health when speaking about the controversial comments he made about black slavery earlier this year, saying he was “ramped up” and a “bit manic” when he claimed that the 400 years of black slavery was a choice made by those enslaved.
Bipolar disorder causes people to have elevated manic episodes as well as low depressive ones, and Kanye believes it played a part in the comments he made in May.
Speaking whilst he was apologising for the controversy on Power 92, he said: “I apologise for the way it made people feel, it was just too much for anyone to take. And I’m not blaming mental health but I’m explaining mental health, by saying that I definitely was ramped up and I definitely was a bit manic.”
In his original interview in May with TMZ, Kanye had said: “When you hear about slavery for 400 years – for 400 years? That sounds like a choice.”

Matt Groening thought Michael Jackson call was a prank

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Groening thought he was the victim of a prank when Michael Jackson rang up ‘The Simpsons’ studio.
The 64-year-old cartoonist has revealed that no-one at the show initially believed that the late pop legend had actually rang the studio to offer to do a guest spot on ‘The Simpsons’.
Matt recalled: “I was sitting in the office late at night. The phone rings, and I pick it up: ‘Hi, this is Michael Jackson.'”
Matt quickly hung up because he assumed it was a prank.
Fortunately, Michael decided to make another call, telling Matt that he was a huge fan of Bart Simpson and that he wanted to appear on ‘The Simpsons’ – which he did in 1991.
Despite this, Michael – who died in June 2009, aged 50 – wasn’t allowed to sing his own songs on the episode and so an impersonator was drafted in.
Speaking to the Australian chat show ‘The Weekly’, Matt explained: “There was some kind of deal with his record company or whatever, so when it came time to sing the songs he had a sound-a-like singer.
“He stood there and watched the guy, who was so nervous he had to sound like Michael Jackson. And [Jackson] giggled.”
Meanwhile, Lenny Kravitz recently hinted he would have liked to have given Michael his song ‘Low’ if he were still alive.
Lenny released the track with a posthumous vocal appearance by the late King of Pop from the studio sessions they had together before his death.
He said: “I wrote and produced the song ‘(I Can’t Make It) Another Day’ for him that came out on his album ‘Michael’, that was released after he died.
“When I was writing ‘Low’, I felt it was a song that would really suit Michael – when I was recording it I just kept hearing his voice.
“I had these other tracks that we’d done and so I put his vocal on to ‘Low’ from those tracks. It was just a really nice exclamation after I sing the verse, on the outro, he just kept backing me.”

Jordyn Woods: Kylie Jenner and Stormi inspired me to start a family

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Jenner’s best friend Jordyn Woods has been inspired by the star’s daughter Stormi to start her own family.
The 20-year-old model has opened up about her best friend’s six-month-old baby girl, and admitted rather than putting her off parenthood, hanging out with Kylie and her tot has made her want to be a mum herself one day.
She said: “[Stormi] is great. She is so cute. I thought having her around would [make me nervous to have kids], but it’s is actually inspiring me to have my own.
“But that’s not happening anytime soon! [laughs] But [Stormi] is amazing.”
For now, Jordyn is more than happy being the cool aunt, without the sleepless nights her 21-year-old pal has been dealing with.
She added to People magazine: “I can be the aunt that spoils her and gives her whatever she wants. A lot of my friends have kids so it is just fun.
“I am the aunt with like 20 kids and I won’t have to do anything at the end of the night. I can actually get a good night’s sleep!”
Last month, Jordyn heaped praise on how the ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ star has handled motherhood, and said she has “blossomed and matured” since she and boyfriend Travis Scott welcomed their daughter into the world.
She said: “I think just people grow and evolve every day and when you become a parent you have to keep learning and it’s an experience and I have just seen her blossom and mature, so it’s nice.”
Although the reality TV star has her hands full with caring for her baby and expanding her Kylie Cosmetics empire, Jordyn doesn’t think their relationship has changed much because they’re still strong and close.
She added: “It’s just how any relationship would be, you have experiences together.”

Sir Elton John takes on rap battle for Snickers ad

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John takes part in a rap battle for a new Snickers advert.
The 71-year-old music icon stars as the hungry counterpart of rising rapper Boogie in the new campaign by the chocolate bar, who are known for their adverts which feature people unable to complete tasks because of their empty stomachs altering their personality.
The new clip sees the star emerge from a crowd at a house party wearing a bedazzled red suit, before singing a few notes from his 1976 hit ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’, much to the shock of other party goers who were expecting a savage rap.
One guest then hands the ‘Rocket Man’ hitmaker a Snickers, and says: “Eat this, you always lose your edge when you’re hungry.”
Elton eats the chocolate bar, and then transforms into 29-year-old Boogie, who takes on the rapping challenge with ease.
According to reports, Elton took a hands-on role in the casting for the advert, and viewed a range of auditions from rappers alongside director Andreas Nilsson, before they settled on casting Boogie.
Speaking to Variety about the opportunity, the up and coming rap star said: “Working with Andreas was a blessing. This was in a way my acting debut and he made that transition so easy … Connecting with Elton John was also huge. His musical knowledge is crazy, he’s super in tune with current hip-hop.”
Whilst Dale Green, global brand director for Snickers, added: “Elton holds the title of Billboard’s No. 1 male artist of all time, and is one of the most prolific and successful singer-songwriters of his generation.
“In pairing Elton and his 50-plus years of multi-genre hits with Boogie, a hip-hop artist on the brink of stardom in today’s most popular category, we can connect with our audiences over a shared love of music.”

Brian May: Freddie Mercury would ‘love and hate’ Adam Lambert

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian May admitted Freddie Mercury would “love and hate” Adam Lambert.
The Queen guitarist has admitted his late bandmate – who tragically died in 1991 aged 45 due to complications from AIDS – would have been jealous of the group’s current frontman because his voice is one “in a billion”.
He told Yahoo: “Freddie would love and hate him, because Adam has a real gift from God.
“It’s a voice in a billion, nobody has that range, nobody that I’ve ever worked with, not just the range but the quality throughout the range. I’ve seen Adam develop just like I watched Freddie develop.”
The 71-year-old musician – who has continued the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ band’s legacy alongside drummer Roger Taylor, 69 – has credited the 36-year-old former ‘American Idol’ star with their longevity.
He added: “In no way does he imitate Freddie but he provides that piece of the jigsaw puzzle. It’s stupendous, we would never be doing this now if it weren’t for Adam.
“Sometimes I stop playing because I think ‘what did he just do?’ He’s so free with his interpretations and it’s just spine-chilling. The sound he makes and way he interprets a song.”
Adam joined the line-up after he sang with Queen during the ‘American Idol’ eight season finale – which saw him finish runner-up – and then joined them for an award show in Ireland.
Brian explained: “There was something about Adam, this chemistry was instant and it was like we were already in a band with him.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Synth pop pioneers Soft Cell will be broadcast live in cinemas across Britain.
To celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary their sold-out final show will air live from London across the country on September 30th.
Marc Almond and David Ball are getting back together for a last celebration of their career with their fans, and their 60-year-old singer admitted it was the perfect time to give the fans what they want as it is the “40th year” of the group.
He said: “We’re doing it because it’s our 40th year. It’s a one off. The final thing, [for] one night only … With Soft Cell I always felt something was unfinished.
“This last ever final show will be the best ever ending. It will be a real statement and send off, and thank you to every fan. Neither of us want to do a tour, but we do want to say goodbye to the fans.”
Ball added “We live in very interesting times, and 2018 promises to be a very special year.”
Almond and multi-instrumentalist Ball, 58, are famous for numerous hits in the 1980s, including ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye’ – famously re-imagined by David Gray – ‘Torch’ and their cover of Gloria Jones’ Northern Soul classic ‘Tainted Love’.
Soft Cell are considered to be one of the most influential groups to emerge from the electronic music scene in the UK in the 1980s.
They released five albums, book-ended by their debut; 1981’s ‘Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret’, and 2002’s ‘Cruelty Without Beauty’.
The pair originally split in 1984, before well-received reunions between 2001 and 2005.
Almond also had a number of solo hits, with ‘Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart’, his duet with the late Gene Pitney, becoming a global number one.
His contribution to music was recognised in 2013 when he was presented with the prestigious Ivor Novello Inspiration Award, and he was honoured with an OBE in this year’s New Year’s Honours List.
Ball went on to form The Grid, peaking with million-selling international hit ‘Swamp Thing’, as well as working as a producer and writer for the likes of Kylie Minogue and remixer for David Bowie, Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, Yello and The B-52’s.
Soft Cell will perform their ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye’ final ever concert at The O2 on Sunday September 30, 2018.

Nicki Minaj happier now she’s single

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicki Minaj is “happier” now she is single.
The ‘Superbass’ hitmaker has dated a number of famous rappers in the past but she insists she is happy being single at the moment because she feels “more free”.
Speaking about a man she is seeing, she told host Ellen DeGeneres: “He’s been around for a couple weeks now. But I don’t have a boy. Look, I’m just chilling. I’ve always been in a relationship my whole life. I was in a relationship since I was 15 years old. This is the first time that I’m single, and I’m happier. I’m more free – and it’s OK. I used to feel like I had to have a man, I swear. My whole adult life I felt like I had to have a man. I want the women out here to know you absolutely don’t.”
Earlier this month, Nicki was locked in a bitter Twitter war of words with her former boyfriend Safaree Samuels, who she dated for almost 15 years, as they traded insults back and forth. He accused her of cheating on him with Meek Mill – whom she dated from 2015 until 2017 – before claiming things got “toxic” between them and he “packed up and left.”
He added: “We know each other inside out. Everything there was for us. I didn’t use your card for prostitutes. We both didn’t trust each other. You did sh*t I did sh*t. You said you were messing with meek a few years b4 y’all got together and I’m not mad at that. Towards the end it got toxic and I just packed up and left.
“I did things for spite and so did you. I don’t wish you bad and I don’t want us back together just like I’m sure you don’t. I don’t need you you don’t need me but we will always be linked in the public no matter what. (sic).”
However, she wasn’t prepared to let her ex-beau bad mouth her on social media without dishing some dirt on him.
She hit back: “U stole my card & told me you thought it was an account with “free money” that I didn’t know about. On God. God will strike you down & more for lying. Ha! Stop saying u packed & left ! On Jesus u came to my house CRYING BEGGING to go w me to Europe to the EMA’s. I said NO DUMMY (sic).”

Gladys Knight has pancreatic cancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Gladys Knight has pancreatic cancer.
The ‘Midnight Train To Georgia’ singer revealed she is battling the disease as she attended the funeral of Aretha Franklin, who passed away from the same condition earlier this month.
Speaking as she arrived at the funeral in Detroit, she revealed to WDIV that the last time she spoke to Aretha, she told her about the diagnosis.
She said: “At that time we shared the fact that we had the same disease.”
However, she did not divulge how far along she was with the disease.
Meanwhile, Gladys previously admitted she “misses” Aretha.
She shared: “I miss her, but I didn’t want her to suffer. I really didn’t. And, you know, people could see it. She just kept driving and driving, and she knew it was a disease that would take her out, and she just kept on doing what she does best. So Aretha, safe journey.”
Aretha was laid to rest on Friday (31.08.18) at Detroit’s Greater Grace Temple.
Speaking at the service, Franklin’s granddaughter Victorie Franklin shared: “I remember when I was a kid people used to always ask me, ‘What does it feel like to be Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter?’ I would always shrug my shoulders and go, ‘I don’t know.
“It’s just my grandma.’ Nothing sounded better to me than the way my grandma sings. Her voice made you feel something. You felt every word, every note, every emotion in the songs she sang. Her voice brought peace.”
