Arlene Phillips blasts politicians for taking part in Strictly and I’m A Celebrity

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Arlene Phillips doesn’t think politicians should appear on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ or ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’.
The former ‘Strictly’ judge, 81, thinks it’s wrong for politicians to “make fools of themselves” and play “silly little games” on the Latin and ballroom show, or the Australian jungle-based programme.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper’s The Diary column: “I’m not big on politicians, even ex-politicians, going into the jungle or dancing on ‘Strictly’.
“I actually don’t like them making fools of themselves.
“We try to teach our children and grandchildren to respect people who are governing and running the country, not going on shows, doing silly little games.”
Recently, former Health Secretary Matt Hancock and fellow politician Nigel Farage have taken part in ‘I’m A Celebrity’.
Both stars finished third in their respective series.
Matt was beaten to the title by Jill Scott in 2022, and former ‘Hollyoaks’ actor Owen Warner finished just in front of him in second.
A year later, ex-‘Made in Chelsea’ star Sam Thompson was named King of the Jungle, followed by former pro boxer Tony Bellew. Nigel made the final and finished third.
In 2016, former Labour Party politician Ed Balls took part in ‘Strictly’.
He is best remembered for his and pro partner Katya Jones’ ‘Gangnam Style’ dance, and Arlene admitted that was “fun”.
She said: “He was fun. He was light-hearted.”
However, Arlene believes some celebrities take the show “to heart” too much.
She explained: “They take it to heart and it breaks them.”
