Alan Carr says life as a comedian is lonely

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Carr has a “lonely” life as a comedian.
The 47-year-old TV star that he finds that despite his immense fame, life as a performer is isolating, explaining that he is either talking to himself or in front of an audience.
During an episode of his ‘Life’s A Beach’ podcast, he said: “I’m a stand-up comedian. I don’t have an entourage – it’s quite lonely. I don’t want pity.”
The comedian – who has appeared on gameshows like ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’ – then explained that stand-up comedy touring’s biggest flaw was how isolating it was, with there being no one to talk to in between shows.
He said: “I tell you what with stand-up comedy, and I just finished a tour, I was walking around all by myself as I always do and I thought you either speak to yourself or speak to an audience.
“And that’s the weirdness – you’re either going, ‘Oh, this is a nice day’, or you’re speaking to a theatre of 1,500 people.
“The problem is you’ve got nowhere in between. You don’t have any company. So that, I think, is my problem.”
Despite his stand-up problems, the former ‘Chatty Man’ star – who split from husband Paul Drayton after 13 years of marriage in 2022 – has enjoyed travelling with ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge Amanda Holden for the second series of ’The Italian Job’, which sees the two stars purchasing derelict homes through the One Euro scheme, and improve them to then give them to charity.
Reflecting on the show, he told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “We’ve loved making two series of ‘Amanda and Alan’s Italian Job’, but we’re not doing a third there — we’ve done enough Italy now.
“I had a great time performing stand-up in Lisbon recently, so maybe the plan could be to restore a house in Portugal.
“We were there for months. One day it felt like it was ‘Wish You Were Here ’, then ‘Grand Designs’, then it was like ‘Love Island’!”
