OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Thompson almost quit ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ after day one due to a panic attack.
The former ‘Made in Chelsea’ was crowned King of the Jungle on this year’s show but he very nearly didn’t make it past the first 24 hours in the Australian jungle.
Speaking on his podcast ‘Staying Relevant’ with Pete Wicks, he shared: “So the first day we get there, I had a panic attack. I entered with such excitement, I was ecstatic.
“But then it dawned on me what we were about to do and I just sat there thinking, ‘Oh no’. My heart raced, I was sweating, and I felt like throwing up, thinking ‘I must be really sick, and maybe I need to see a doctor right away, or they might have to pull me out.”
It took the 31-year-old reality star a while to settle into the new surroundings and as a result he was “quiet” around his campmates.
He added: “I was so quiet, and when people questioned it, I just didn’t have an answer. It took a while for me to get used to the surroundings because I was so caught up in everything. It’s quite an odd feeling when you first arrive, but luckily, everyone was so kind.”
Sam was “overwhelmed” to win the ITV celebrity survival show.
He told hosts Ant and Dec: “I’m really overwhelmed, I didn’t think I’d even be invited on the show. I don’t know what to say.”
Asked what he had to say to those who had voted for him, he tearfully said: “I’m so grateful, thank you so much. I’ve dreamed of doing this show for years and years and you’ve made a boy’s dream come true.”
The TV star was diagnosed with ADHD and autism last year, and he discussed his experiences with campmates Josie Gibson and Marvin Humes.
Sam shared: “[It happened] last year, mate. There’s loads of people who are actually like of a certain age who get diagnosed way later. When the low bits happen it goes low. But then the highs are really high.”
