OHMYGOSSIP — Fred Sirieix has had his heart broken “many times”, but admits time has “healed everything” for him.
The French-born star, 50 – who lives with his fiance, who is known affectionately as “Fruitcake”, but has 18-year-old daughter Andrea as well as another child from a previous relationship – has seen hundreds of people try their luck on blind dates as the head waiter on Channel 4’s ‘First Dates’, but admitted that when it comes to his own romantic life, he has had to learn how to “get back up” after heartache.
Asked if he has ever been heartbroken, he said: “Oh, many times! But the good thing is, I always get back up! Time heals everything.”
The ‘Million Pound Menu’ star went on to add that a successful relationship is built on “trust and warmth”, and he believes Valentine’s Day is “all about the anticipation”.
He told new! magazine: “It takes two to tango. You have to work on it. It’s about trust and the warmth you feel for the other person, and whether you’re able to laugh and enjoy each other’s company.
“The going will always get tough, no matter how good your relationship is. I talk about this on my BBC Radio 4 show ‘A Life Through Food’. When I was writing the show, I got my partner to read it and said, ‘What do you think?’ She said, ‘My God, it’s up and down. It’s like love, like a yo-yo.’
“Valentine’s Day is all about the anticipation, excitement and preparing something that is going to make. the other person excited. You meet someone and it’s all exciting but as time goes on, it’s easy to let slip.”
