OHMYGOSSIP — Three of June Brown’s real-life children will appear at Dot Cotton’s funeral on ‘EastEnders’.
The iconic soap star died in April, aged 95, and her kids Sophie, 61, Nim, 56, and Billy, 60, have all agreed to attend Dot’s TV funeral.
Executive producer Chris Kershaw said: “June’s children Nim, Sophie and Billy knew what ‘EastEnders’ meant to their mother, so much so they requested to attend Dot’s funeral to say their goodbyes.”
June played the part of Dot between 1985 and 2020. But the actress didn’t want Dot to be killed off while she was still alive.
Chris told The Sun newspaper: “She did of course know that when she did leave us, it was the right thing to do.
“After some time, we couldn’t put it off much longer. We spoke to June’s family who knew it was what she would have wanted.”
June passed away at her home in Surrey in April.
Her family said at the time: “We are deeply saddened to announce our beloved mother, June, passed away very peacefully at her home in Surrey on Sunday evening, with her family by her side.”
Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the BBC soap also paid a glowing tribute to the actress.
She said: “There are not enough words to describe how much June was loved and adored by everyone at ‘EastEnders’, her loving warmth, wit and great humour will never be forgotten.
“June created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton, not just in soap but in British television, and having appeared in 2,884 episodes, June’s remarkable performances created some of ‘EastEnders’ finest moments.
“We send all our love and deepest sympathies to June’s family and friends. A very bright light has gone out at ‘EastEnders’ today but we shall all be raising a sweet sherry in June’s memory.
“Rest in peace, our dearest June. You will never be forgotten.”
