OHMYGOSSIP — Sandi Toksvig is now out of hospital after being struck down with bronchial pneumonia while on tour in Australia.
The 64-year-old comedian was forced to cancel the New Zealand leg of her tour after becoming seriously ill Down Under, but the former ‘Great British Bake Off’ presenter has reassured fans she will continue to recover in Australia until she is “fit to fly home”.
She wrote on Twitter: “Thank you to everyone who has sent such kind words while I’ve been unwell. I am now out of hospital and continuing my convalescence in Australia until I’m fit to fly home.”
Sandi also thanked the Australian health service for looking after her.
She added: “My undying (literally) thanks to the amazing Australian health service.”
Last weekend, one of Sandi’s representatives revealed the star had been admitted to hospital with bronchial pneumonia.
Sandi’s team wrote on Twitter: “Due to illness, Sandi has cancelled the New Zealand leg of her tour.
“She has been admitted to hospital with bronchial pneumonia while still in Australia and is unable to travel and perform. Our main priority is getting her home to the UK as soon as she is well enough – Team Toksvig.”
Bronchial pneumonia is a type of pneumonia that affects the bronchi in the lungs.
It usually results from a bacterial infection, but viral and fungal infections can also cause it. Symptoms can include coughing, difficulty breathing, and fever.
Sandi began her tour on Saturday 12 November, and was due to perform three shows in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland from December 4th to 6th.
Before jetting off for her tour, Sandi said: “I am thrilled to finally come down to Australia and New Zealand to perform my new show for my fans down under.
“It has been a perilous time for live performance, but I am thrilled to be back on the boards. And leaving our winter for an Australian summer is a bonus, I can’t wait.”
