OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Love Island’ star Fran Cosgrave would consider returning to the reality dating show if they made a special “for old people”.
The 44-year-old nightclub boss won the first season of ‘Celebrity Love Island’ with Jayne Middlemiss back in 2005 when it was set in a villa in Fiji with stars including Calum Best and Michael Greco – and Fran described his time on the show as one of the “best experiences” of his life.
Speaking to Simon Gross for his ‘Get Gossy with Grossy Love Island Extra’ Instagram show, he said: “It was one of the best experiences of my life so if I was single I do it for old people – old people Island.”
Fran – who has also served as a bodyguard for boy band Westlife – went on to explain the changes he sees between the original show and the hugely successful new version, which returned to TV after a revamp in 2015.
He said: “It definitely wasn’t what it was when we were there … everybody was quite mixed and different … People were picked for having stuff going on with the press … There were all kinds of different characters …
“But I think it had to change … It’s definitely more … in your face and a bit more confrontational than it would have been there, With swapping partners. … with people getting removed if they don’t have a partner …”
He also admitted that despite being surrounded by beautiful people, he was single for most of his time in the villa because he didn’t “click with anyone in that way”.
It means he would have been unlikely to survive for long in the new version where anyone without a partner is at risk of being evicted from the show.
Fran added: “I would have been kicked out at the start of the format now … I would have been removed for the show for not coupling up.”
Love Island’ airs at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.
