Dr Alex George confesses to comfort eating during ‘stressed’ times
OHMYGOSSIP — Dr Alex George turns to “unhealthy foods” when he gets “stressed”.
The former ‘Love Island’ star has confessed he chows down on calorific treats now and again to give him some physical ease during tough times, but since speaking to his therapist about it he has tried to swap comfort eating for exercise.
He said: “I was talking with my therapist about coping mechanisms because when I’m stressed, I turn to unhealthy foods.
“She always says to me to think about what purpose is it serving? Over the last couple of years, I’ve become more self-aware of patterns of behaviour.
“Most of what we do is to fill a gap or a hole and give you a sense of feeling comfort and food has been that for me.”
The 31-year-old star has been enjoying walking and going to the gym, as well as swimming.
He added to MailOnline: “Walking is huge and I love going out and walking and the gym, I’ve really got back into exercising.
“I’ve been swimming, there’s something about the monotony of swimming that I like, which I know sounds odd.”
The doctor took part in the ITV2 dating show in 2018 after his friend from university, Freya Barlow, encouraged him to seize any opportunities before she sadly lost her life to cancer at the age of 22.
He previously said: “We sat down and said our goodbyes. She said, ‘I know you’re an introvert who hides away from stuff. I’m not able to live the life I want. I want you to go out there and take opportunities.’
“It would be easy for me to say, ‘I’m a doctor, I’m not doing this’, and I thought, ‘No, I’m going to do it.’ ”
Last year, Alex – who tragically lost his younger brother Llŷr to suicide in 2020 at the age of 19 – was appointed as a Youth Mental Health Ambassador by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
