OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star John Whaite expects to get “complaints” about his and Johannes Radebe’s steamy routine on Saturday night (06.11.21).
The 32-year-old former ‘Great British Bake Off’ winner and professional dancer Johannes, 34 – who are the first-ever all-male partnership on the BBC show – are set to perform a racy rumba to Sting’s ‘Shape of My Heart’ this weekend, and John fully anticipates a backlash.
Speaking to Rylan Clark on sister show ‘It Takes Two’ on BBC Two, who referred to the song as “sensual central”, he said: “Just wait till you see it, we are going to get complaints.”
John also shared how he was reduced to tears when they were rehearsing the “intimate” performance because it’s the first time the pair have shown a “sensitive emotional side”.
The TV star spilled: “It’s intimate.
“Day one when we did this on Monday, I’m not ashamed to admit this, when we danced it I actually cried. Because we have done all these masculine things, these very powerful things, which have been great, but to finally show a sensitive emotional side, it’s beautiful.”
John then quipped: “I breathe down his neck…”
Before he joked: “I’m not going to have garlic. No salmon.”
And Johannes is equally as excited to be able to show their vulnerability through the emotional dance.
He added: “I think it’s an opportunity for me and John to be able to express, to be vulnerable on that dance floor, because we haven’t had the opportunity.
“I’m loving every minute of it.”
John previously admitted he was overwhelmed by the support he has received after he was announced to be part of the first all-male pairing.
He was bracing himself for a barrage of abuse from online trolls when it was confirmed he would be dancing with a man but the opposite happened and it warmed his heart.
He said: “The reaction has been so positive. I genuinely did think I was going to receive a fair bit of hate in my inbox because you do as a gay man, you get a lot of hate. It’s something you grow up and you learn to deal with.
“Shouldn’t have to, but we do. And I can honestly say that I haven’t had a single message of negativity.”
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ continues on BBC One from 6.45pm on Saturday (06.11.21).
