OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Carr will host this year’s Royal Variety Performance.
The ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ judge and stand-up comedian will take the reins of the annual Royal Albert Hall charity event, which will feature performances from Sir Rod Stewart, Elvis Costello and Ed Sheeran.
The 45-year-old star said: “It’s such an honour to be asked to host this year’s Royal Variety Performance, it really is a dream come true.
“With so many amazing performers it’s going to be a night to recollect and if I remember correctly, the last time I appeared I was wearing a skimpy leopard print mini dress so I’m hoping as host this time I’ll be wearing something a bit more classy.”
Senior members of the Royal Family will be in the audience watching the likes of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s ‘Matilda: The Musical’, stand-up comic Judi Love and performers from Cirque du Soleil.
Anne-Marie, Years and Years, and James Blunt will also provide some music on the night.
The event is in aid of the Royal Variety Charity, an organisation that helps those in the entertainment industry who need support. Queen Elizabeth is its patron, and the charity is celebrating 100 years of our reigning monarch being their patron, which commencted with His Majesty King George V in 1921.
The Royal Variety Performance is the world’s longest-running entertainment show, and this year will mark the 109th event.
Last year, the show was held at the Blackpool Opera House with a virtual audience due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Prince Charles appeared, via pre recorded message, in lieu of being there in person.
This year’s show will be broadcast in December on ITV and the ITV Hub.
