OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ 2021 star Priya Gopaldas has called out a body shamer who said she is “absolutely disgusting to look at”.
The 23-year-old medical student has advised the Instagram user, named Kiara, to consider how “damaging” the nasty remarks about her appearance could be to “a woman’s confidence”, as she called for women to support women.
She responded: “Hey Kiara, looking at your Instagram you’re clearly a beautiful girl! As women we should support each other and instead of body shaming we should try to stay kind.
“I love my body because it allows me to run far and be strong. Sometimes criticism like that can be damaging to a woman’s confidence and make them feel like they need to change themselves with surgery or by eating badly when actually we’re all uniquely beautiful.”
Priya concluded: “Hope you have an insightful bank holiday.”
Kiara also slammed Priya as a “stupid tory b****”.
Priya addressing the troll comes after ‘Love Island’ bosses warned viewers to “think before posting” on social media after Chloe Burrows was hit with death threats.
Keyboard warriors hit out at the 25-year-old financial services marketing executive after she coupled up with Aaron Francis on the ITV2 dating series, which resulted in Shannon Singh being dumped from the villa – and the programme condemned the “wholly unacceptable” posts.
A statement released on the ‘Love Island’ social media pages read: “We want Love Island to be a positive experience for all our cast and their friends and family members.
“Last night’s episode created strong reactions but some viewers’ posts were wholly unacceptable.
“We take these matters extremely seriously and will support cast members and their families in reporting such posts.
“We would once again urge all our viewers to think before posting, and remember that our Islanders are people with feelings.”
This came after Chloe’s family and friends took to social media to condemn the “absolutely disgusting” trolling she has received, including “hundreds” of messages encouraging her to take her own life.
They also questioned if the deaths of former ‘Love Island’ host Caroline Flack, and contestants Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon, who all took their own lives, have “taught us nothing”.
They wrote: “Morning everyone, Chloe’s family & friends here.
“We hate to introduce ourselves under such vile circumstances but we’ve had enough after just 3 episodes.
“We all have thick skin but the amount of trolling Chloe has been receiving is absolutely disgusting. This morning we woke up to yet another DM (see next story) encouraging Chloe to kill herself – there have been HUNDREDS
“Have the deaths of Sophie, Mike, and Caroline taught us nothing?
“Not only that, but people are flooding her inbox threatening to kill themselves. People… this is a GAME show, there is a cash prize!
“We understand the frustration surrounding @shannonsinghh’s eviction we feel it too! She didn’t deserve to leave so early but Chloe does not deserve to DIE because Shannon had to leave the villa! She will have had no idea of the repercussions of her decisions prior to making it
“We are not naive. We know that this post won’t put an end to trolling. All the advice we get is to ‘ignore it’ and ‘block the trolls’ sometimes it’s not that easy. Our hope is that this just reminds some of you #BeKind x (sic)”
