OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘EastEnders’ star Raji James has joined ‘Hollyoaks’.
The 51-year-old actor – who portrayed Ash Ferreira in the BBC One soap – has joined the Channel 4 show as Ali Shahzad, the father of Misbah’s (Harvey Virdi) secret son, Shaq Qureshi (Omar Malik).
He said: “I’m delighted to be joining the cast of ‘Hollyoaks’, particularly as I’m part of a very topical and potentially explosive storyline.
“Ali is a very complex character and I’m thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to explore his darker side.
“Due to the COVID rules in place, I’ve only been able to meet a few of the other cast members so far, they, along with the incredible crew and office staff, have all been very welcoming and supportive, making it easy to fit in.
“Having hit the ground running, we’ve already filmed a few hugely emotional scenes.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to work alongside and learn from such fantastic actors as Harvey, Omar, Sarah Jayne, Lysette and Nadine.”
Raji will make his debut as the doctor on September 2nd on E4, and again on September 3rd on Channel 4.
Ali’s arrival will send old acquaintance Misbah into a panic, as she hears a ghost from her past.
Raji portrayed EastEnders’ Ash from 2003 to 2005, and he also starred as DS Vik Singh in ‘The Bill’, and Abdul Khan in 1999 film ‘East Is East’.
Tomi Ade has also joined the soap, as Felix Westwood’s (Richard Blackwood) estranged son DeMarcus Westwood.
He will make his debut in a special hour-long episode, which will first air on September 9th on E4 and again on Channel 4 on September 10th.
Speaking about playing the mischievous teen, Tomi said: “Joining the cast of ‘Hollyoaks’ has been such an amazing experience. The cast have been so welcoming, and I’ve just had a blast on set so far.
“I cannot wait for the fans to meet DeMarcus and see what we have in store for him and his journey in the village!”
