OHMYGOSSIP — Gok Wan shaved his head for charity live on ‘This Morning’.
The fashion guru had his signature quiff chopped off to support his cousin’s 12-year-old daughter Alyssa – who was diagnosed with leukaemia six weeks ago – and to raise money for the Young Lives vs Cancer charity.
Appearing on the ITV daytime show, he said: “There are so many young kids and young people that are going through this right now.
“So I decided I would do something to try and help her, support her emotionally… She kind of [asked me]. She didn’t force me to be here.
“I said to her mum, look, why don’t I shave my head as well?”
The 46-year-old star – whose JustGiving page has received over £44,000 in donations thus far – noted that while fundraising was a big reasons, there was also a more emotional meaning behind cutting his hair.
He added: “The other thing is, is that Alyssa wants to make it very, very clear that actually short hair can be cool.
“It’s really important. I’ve worked in fashion now for over two decades and I know that image is so important.”
Alyssa is undergoing chemotherapy and sent a message to Gok – whom she calls Uncle Babe – to read out on air.
Her message said: “Dear Uncle Babe, I am now back at home with mum and dad and Liam. Doctors have changed my chemo treatment which is making me feel a little sick but I’m being brave.
“Thank you so much for cutting your hair to raise money for Young Lives versus Cancer. I hope you raise loads.
“Can you please cut your hair like mine to show all the young people going through treatment that short hair is cool?”
While Gok as “genuinely nervous” before the big moment, he told hosts Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield – who were laughing along in the studio – that it the right thing to do.
He added: “Every single strand of hair is worth it.”
