OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Conachan has left ‘Hollyoaks’.
The 30-year-old actress’ alter ego, Courtney Campbell, departed the village in scenes which aired on E4 on Tuesday (29.06.21) after deciding to take up a post as a head teacher in a school in her native Scotland.
The popular science teacher had initially turned down the job but when Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) made Sid Sumner (Billy Price) realise he’d unintentionally guilt-tripped Courtney into staying, they rushed to tell her to reconsider, and then all her loved ones gathered to say goodbye as she exited in a taxi.
Amy hailed her stint on the soap as one of the “biggest honours” of her life and she’ll miss her alter ego.
She said: “Being on ‘Hollyoaks’ has been one of the biggest honours of my life. I’m grateful for everything; from all that it taught me to the lifelong friends it gave me.
“Travelling to Spain and filming a drug smuggling scandal was definitely a highlight. I already miss Courtney and her bad decision-making ways.”
Off screen, Amy was a key part in the soap’s ‘Celebrate Difference’ campaign and she featured in a documentary called ‘Hollyoaks – See the Person’.
She was involved in a special episode celebrating the diversity of the village, which also included Autistic actress Talia Grant’s character, Brooke Hathaway, and Noah Holdsworth’s deaf character Oscar Osborne.
Hollyoaks’ executive producer Bryan Kirkwood said at the time: “‘Hollyoaks’ has grown into one of the most diverse shows on television and our disability visibility reflects that.
“The ‘Hollyoaks’ team’s presentation at Channel 4’s Disability Conference was a celebration of all the trailblazing work that goes on behind the scenes and on-screen.
“We have two exceptionally talented leading actors with disabilities or additional needs in Amy Conachan, who is a wheelchair user, and Talia Grant, who has autism.
“It’s important to us that both Amy and Talia star in huge ‘Hollyoaks’ stories rather than fade into the background.
“The heightened world of ‘Hollyoaks’ is an equal opportunities disaster zone where everyone can fall in love or get caught up in the latest stunt.”
